I like this extension a lot. Unfortunately it prevents you from selecting any quality above 1080p. This is fine for my low end hardware but not so good for my other devices. Since chrome extensions are synchronised across devices if you are logged in to the browser I always need to enable/disable the extension depending on the device I'm currently using. It would be better if it doesn't block the higher qualities even if it doesn't work for them... Maybe you could just display a little "h" icon next to the supported qualities instead of blocking the unsupported ones?
I liked the extension but when I install it it blocks all Qualities above 1080 for me so it's essentially useless for me, BUT! I will for sure recommend this for low end hardware as it can be the difference between an old laptop playing 720p or 480p, and for videos that have text 480 makes it unreadable in most cases.
This works surprisingly well... I wasn't able to play 1080p 60 fps videos without cpu usage above 50 and lagigng out other stuff but this brought it down to 6-20 percent! Great extensions dude thank you!
Works perfectly on my old Chromebook with a MediaTek MT8173c processor. 1080p 60fps YouTube playback is now possible.
Two Words "Life Saver". Maybe have a 2K and 4K update next?
It's very useful for less powerful systems, I guess. But be aware that enabling this disables. 2K / 4K streaming.
Thank you very much!
Thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Very good. My laptop is Broadwell, so vp9 is taxing and makes my laptop hot. This help lower the temp around 5-10 degree celsius.
I am using Ryzen 3200g 8gb ram CPU usage is now below 100% while playing YouTube and a CPU-intensive game, thank you.
No longer really helps performance. Don't use this unless you're on a particularly bad PC that struggles with VP9. Using the extension butchers video playback on my more modest Windows 10 PC (12GB RAM, 1050Ti, i5-3470), so I'm assuming this'll only help especially ancient PCs.
Lenovo C330 just could not play 080p 60fps youtube videos. This extension fixed it! Grateful!
Works as expected. 2k@60fps video plays in intel hd 4400 without stutter.
Works wonders!
Immediately noticed a difference!
How have I lived without this??
Suddenly youtube started to get play very bad on my RK3399 based chromebook. Obviously a chromeos update crippled the hardware accelerated vp9 playback. So now I am back to H.264
thank you
Hace lo que promete, (mi navegador tiene un problema con los codecs pero esto me ayudo con mi problema) asombroso.
This extension is good, youtube stopped eating 60+ % CPU, instead consume 5-10% as it should be. HOWEVER I would like option to disable it on live-stream videos, sinice disabling h264 stops them from playing. Cheers for devs
good thing lul
It does what it says perfectly But, First things first: DO NOT USE THIS EXTENSION IF YOU -> Have a powerful system with a gpu capable of decoding VP8/VP9. If then, there's no point of using this extension. It's for old systems which do not support hardware decode of VP8/VP9/AV1 -> Watch videos at 1440/4k: It limits the video to 1080p because youtube supports H264 upto a maximum of 1080p only. -> If your system supports VP8/VP9 decode but not AV1. Use "Not yet, AV1" Extension which is based on this extension to block av1 only and not vp8/9. USE IT IF: -> Your GPU doesn't support VP8/9 decoding -> If you have a extremely slow CPU and it heats up pretty badly while watching youtube.
go.Inkam malware
while this extension used to work great, if you bring up stats for nerds as of the last few months, youll notice its not streaming in 264 anymore, and hence have high processor usage. i'm not sure if this is only happening in brave, or in chrome as well.
I absolutely love this plugin. Webm or vp9 video playback makes my laptop extremely slow. This plugin solved this issue. Thank you. 5 out of 5. Didn't face any issue so far.
EXTENSION NEEDS UPDATE! When block 60fps is enabled it caps the video quality at 720p. PLEASE FIX! I am unable to play 1080p 60fps smoothly. This problem has been happening since October.
This app is a real life saver!!! Before, I was using YouTube normally and it would hit up to 98% cpu usage on 1080p and when I switched to this, the cpu usage went all the way down to 10% cpu usage, it's a really good piece of software!
It limits the video quality to 1080p in YouTube, what's the point then? I can do that by myself and have no issues... Plus the videos look worse... Total garbage...
Does the job right. Exremely useful for PCs that don't support VP9. It's increases browsing and overall performence by reducing load on CPU. It also increases battery life considerably. I am uninstalling it because I don't need it anymore since my new laptops now supports VP9. but for those that want to block 60fps vids or convert them to 30fps while streaming this is still usefull. Thanks a lot for the great work, devs.
I didn't know about h264ify until it came pre-installed on my Raspberry Pi 4 and got carried over to my Windows 10 PC. My PC is not that great, so this extension works perfectly for me! Videos lag otherwise if I turn it off. My only complaint here is that auto-generated captions just seem to disappear. Other than that, amazing extension for bad computers!
Does what it says.
I am having troubles since today don't if it's because a new Youtube version or whatever but for some kind of reason why I block the 60FPS it only limits the video quality do 720p. Any feedback on this issue ? First time it has happened to me, cause I've been using this extension for over a year
Holeyy sheeeet.. this one works... I love it. I hope this get's update someday when this version no longer work.
useless 1080p only seriously? removed
Before using this extension, youtube constantly buffered and videos were almost unwatchable on higher resolution. After installing this, youtube now runs almost perfectly, with very little buffering. I strongly recommend this extension!
Really improved laptop performance issue while playing video, no more 100% video card usage. Dear Google, it's silly that my laptop with ryzen 5 vega 8 stuttering sometimes when playing video in 1080p, and when I change quality to 4k it runs perfectly!
Didn't work.. Period
A must-have extension
I really don't know why but this extension is not working on my laptop. I tried it on my windows laptop and it was working. So does this extension not work on mac?
did some tests and yes this does wok really well. without it i just get high cpu and stutter,,,,with it i get low cpu and no stutter. win win
Works as description says. 5 stars!
It does what it says. Forces AdTube to switch to H.264. However, be warned that on many modern video cards - VP9 might actually be better optimized than H.264. Did a few benchmarks on my AMD Vega56 (W10 / latest drivers) and turns out while both don't use the CPU much, H.264 consumed twice more GPU power than VP9...
This is a godsend of an extension. No, this extension is not for everyone, even more so for people with modern hardware. However, if you started having issues playing 720p60fps youtube videos on your old laptop (currently using a macbook from 2010) when you know it could play it smoothly before, then this is the extension for you. I cannot believe I haven't tried or heard of h264ify sooner. I can even play 1080p30fps youtube videos now :D Google should really default to the h264 codec anyway... Just install and hide the extension in chrome menu. Easy as pie.
The single best available extension for chrome. Fixed all my youtube problems.
Works great.CHEERS
It works!
I've been having to pause YouTube videos to let my ultra-low-power laptop cool down, or else it pauses every 10 seconds. This extension has improved my video-binging experience by at least 20%
Very good extension for blocking 60fps youtube videos who taking a high cpu usage.. Now i can play videos 1080 without 60fps and my cpu usage is low..
It really works, good job! Thanks a lot.
i was seeking something to disable 60 fps video (i use an ancient desktop) and this worked the treat. thanks!!
much improved on old pc. recommended!
I got a new chromebook but still had issues with youtube on 1080p, running smooth at 60fps now. I appreciate this extension
Great extension for telling youtube to serve your device with MP4/AVC codec videos instead of google's VP Codec. It is sad though as this functionality should be built-in within Google Chrome for better user experience in Youtube. AMD's Polaris video cards or older devices don't have hardware acceleration for VP codec
Lovely, small extension that does what it promised. I have had it for a few years now and my 10-year-old Laptop (bless it's CPU. RIP...) couldn't play 1080p videos on Youtube without gasping for air. With this, no problem. I still use it with my new machine. The only small thing I would like for it to include is either a support for resolutions over 1080 on YT (I am not sure H.264 can do it) or with higher res to just have an option to ignore the settings. If I want to watch a video in 4K (rarely, but still), it'd be nice to be able to without having to disable the extension.
nice
Excellent! :)
I think this extension kills all my 4K viewing. I thought youtube has removed all the 4K content.
Lately I've been watching Youtube a lot. I always thought CPU usage seemed unreasonable compared to say a similar res MP4 file. A couple minutes of research and i landed on this extension. The VP9 CPU decoding reason totally made sense. Great for my lap since I use my laptop on it -it's running much cooler now! Should be better for battery life too.
muito bom
Thanks so much! xoxo
Works well.
I do not understand. There is zero difference on Task Manager. Without this extension on, my PC was already using its Intel GPU to decode the video... I thought YouTube's format didn't allow hardware decoding in Chrome by default...???? Is this because my PC is newer, and it can hardware accelerate VP9?
i have a VERY bad laptop, it would lag seriously until i change the res to 480p now that i installled this extension Thanks!
it came installed already when i downloaded Linux
While it may prove useful on my Raspberry Pi, you must be careful as it will make 1440p and 4K options unavailable in chrome. This is not an issue when working from the device you wish to speed up, but if you're like me and sign into all of your devices, the extension carries over onto you desktop's chrome, where I watch much 4K youtube content. It took me a few days to realize I need to disable the extension if I want to watch anything over 1080p!
Every one should try this extension out. The YouTube stutter used to drive me crazy. I looked up online to fix the stutter, and some people tell me to "Turn off hardware acceleration". The disabled hardware acceleration didn't work so, I started to watch YouTube on my phone or edge more until, I came across a Reddit post that mentioned the extension so, I installed it, and everything was smooth. On some platforms, it will not work because those platforms do not have flash installed on them.
Didn't work at all, so good. DON'T GET!
Youtube was unwatchable at 1080 and was using almost 100% cpu Was stuck at 720 and even then would stutter and have audio clicks from time to time. Cpu is older but is still a Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6700. This addon brought cpu usage at 1080 from 90ish percent down to about 15 percent. Everything is fine now. Almost gave up on Chrome.
One of the best features of this extension is the "turning off" feature, this way I can only use it on my slow PC, while I can still watch 4k on my fast PC
5 STARS! 100% fix. I could never understand why YouTube video playback was so lousy. Same videos played fine if downloaded. Other sites played fine on even higher quality. YouTube was practically unwatchable. Installed your addon and instantly YouTube played fine. Thank You.
My computer is essential a toaster as this point, but this extension eliminated the occasional stutter on 780p 60fps videos but 1080p 60fps ones still remains nearly unwatched.
This extension is a life saver! It is awesome at what it does, I would just like it NOT to disable higher resolutions video options. It is perfectly fine that it can't deal with 1440p or 4k. I understand that, BUT - I would still like to be able to see or have those options if video supports them originally! It's simply because many times 4k or 1440p at 60fps will look better than fixed up 1080p video. Or to put it differently - sometimes I will prefer crispness over smoothness. I'd love to have all options there. Will give it a 5 star rating later, anyway - 4 is just to catch your attention. :D
fixed stuttering issues I had on my laptop while using the "power saver" power plan on windows 10, I have an intel i7-7700HQ and limit the CPU frequency to 0.80 GHz to lengthen battery life
It seems to be working just fine; I see "avc1.64002a (299) / mp4a.40.2 (140)" under "Codecs" in the "Stats for nerds" menu instead of that VP9 codec, but the option for anything playing at higher than 1080p 60 fps is gone (read: I can't watch 1440p, 4k and 8k videos).
This totally fixing my CPU over-utilization.
Recently green glitches shown on videos.
Not working, everything stayed the same, update it and I will try it again.
Why the extra permissions? Edit: Thanks for replying. Also, it would be great if it worked on more sites and not just YouTube.
Recently I've been having buffering issues while using h264ify. Until a few days back it worked fine, but now it renders most videos unviewable due to buffering issues. Removing the extension fixed the buffering issues. Still, it was good while it lasted. Works perfectly on older pcs
Something added this without my knowledge permission at some point. Had a few days where videos were just janky. I suppose it was working as intended, but when this is added to your device without knowing it's just annoying.
Useful extension for older cpu and gpu.
I've tried this extension a few times and honestly don't know what it does. The stuttering was still there and I tried going through the options to see if I was doing something wrong but nothing seemed to work. I use an ASUS Chromebook 4GB
Thank you SO MUCH! My *7* year old Lenovo B570 can handle 1080p just fine, but 1080p60 causes it to stutter, but not with this extension! :D (Even with the "Block 60fps video" turned off!)
Successfully disabled 60fps video playback so my computer can play high quality videos with no problem again. Thank you.
Was wondering why Youtube was using so much CPU lately. This fixed it!
Since i installed this add-on, my pc is so cool and quiet...tnk to the developer of this add-on :)
It works! Playing 1080p at 2x speed no longer takes up all the CPU resource now.
Without this, my computer can not handle youtube (sadly, I have only 1 processor) this makes it so my notebook will play youtube, even if it's only in 460p :)
Absolute godsend. Without this, YouTube takes 50% CPU and cannot be run alongside a game, since it'll stutter like crazy. With this, YouTube takes maybe 5-10% all the time. Absolutely perfect!
So good
Stops my loungeroom laptop from annoyingly having its fan go full-bore trying to do 60fps with only an integrated intel chip
It works great but I still don't get it. My iGPU supposes to support vp9 decoding. How is the GPU usage drops significantly when streaming the same video with the same quality setting. VP9 isn't suppose to be resource hungry.
really made watching videos on my raspberry pi 3 better, still stutters sometimes a bit, but a lot better than before
super
great job! thank you!
CPU usage dramatically cut down. Fan noise no longer an issue.
this is very important tool for youtube video, because default youtube video format vp9 eats almost all CPU power during video watching process, especially in 4k videos, but H264ify changes vp9 into mp4, which is making CPU usage about 20-25 % instead of 90-100%: Thank you very much!
Life saver! Perfect for an old quad core
Awesome for my aging laptop... As my laptop screen does not support more than 768p and has an i3 4th gen processor vp9 format had no added benefits and was just making life worse: 1. High CPU usage 2. Video stuttering Now it's awesome...
Does what it says perfectly, definitely recommend it if your youtube stutters in HD.
Awesome extension. 1080p60 perfect works with my AMD X2 3800. Thanks!!!
Please, can you make it work on every kind of streaming site and videos??? Please do it!
