used to work great. the last few months i have to turn mute on and off several times to get it to work
Where did silent site sound blocker go? Long time user of that plugin and was much much better than this one which does not seem to work well. Constantly mutes current tab even after I unmute it or even whitelist it. Makes it near impossible to watch youtube videos.
Was working fine before but now will automatically mute the current tab and requires users to click to a different tab and back to the original tab inorder for sound to play. Makes the extension very annoying to use.
most productive app of the year
This extension worked perfectly until a few months ago. I'm not sure if the issues I'm experiencing are due to an update made to Chrome, or a change made to this plugin. Basically this plugin will oftentimes require me to click from one tab to another to un-mute the tab I'm watching. This mainly happens when opening a new tab. Also the plugin will occasionally randomly mute the tab I'm watching which requires me to click to another tab and back to unmute.

It isn't working correctly as of lately. I've tried removing it from chrome, restarting my device and disabling/re-enabling it again. Normally it would mute all other tabs when I was on a specific one. But now its muting all tabs by default and I have to keep manually going up and unmuting the tab. Even if the tab is playing media with sound it doesn't unmute the tab I'm on unless I do it myself.
best for the guys who play games during online classes?
Have you considered adding shortcut key functions?
Just a note to thank you for this extension... The others stopped working in Chrome 91 and just got promises of a fix but they never got fixed.. I am very happy with this Smartmute 5.4.6 and thank you for developing it... Banyarola

Great idea but the execution is okay. Would be better if it paused the video instead of muting the tab and then replayed the old video when done with the current one. I understand it may be made this way due to limitations but still it's not that convenient.
Works almost perfectly! When tab's are pinned, the auto mute doesn't work, both pinned tab play sounds at the same time.

really a great feature, does what it says the best but I would like to suggest a feature idk if its possible or not but instead of muting maybe it could pause the video when we switch to a newtab and when coming back resumes it? nevertheless still a great extension.

idk if chrome coding allows it, but will there be a feature in an upcoming update to add the "mute tab" functionality to the right-click menu so one doesn't have to actually open the tab and hear the audio blare out in order to mute it?
Smart Mute es extraordinariamente útil! Have been using this for a while now....one word..awesome. Never had a problem. This is always installed after Bitwarden as my 'can't use Opera/Chrome without it' apps. Well done!!!
Solves a long needed problem in Chrome of not being able to leave sound off everywhere and unmute on demand. Gets rid of obnoxious sound from unwanted autoplaying videos (that's 100% of them.)

Exactly what I was looking for. Shifts between tabs seamlessly, and includes a blacklist feature that I don't use often but absolutely love that it's there.
So far this is EXACTLY what I needed! I wanted something that would mute everything but my pinned tabs so I can listen to focus@will and not be bombarded by videos while reading my news feed. Well done!!!!
pretty good. however, after closing the second the tab, the first muted tab does not resume unmuted. would be better if this is possible.

This is a great extension! ?One thing I think that could make it perfect is if there was an option to have it so the most-recently-muted tab would automatically un-mute when you close the tab that caused it to mute. Something like: 1. Open Twitch.tv in Tab A and start watching/listening to a stream 2. Open Reddit in Tab B - do not watch/listen to any audio/video 3. Open YouTube in Tab C and start watching/listening to a video 4. Tab A becomes muted due to Smart Mute (which is fantastic!) 4a. Optionally open some non-audio-playing tab in Tab D 5. Close Tab C 6. If you did step 4a, you stay on Tab D. Otherwise, the browser automatically navigates you to Tab B (where there's no audio/video playing) 7. Tab A becomes unmuted, even though you're not on Tab A <--- This is the new functionality I'm suggesting (as an option). What do you think? I would re-rate this as 5/5 if that were an option!

Mute all Chrome tabs except certain tabs. This program is the best and I've tried 7+. Combine this program with a Chrome plugin called Window Tiler to divide your screen into 4 parts that you can all watch simultaneously. Use a duel monitor or monitors. My productivity and output of Youtube video creation a day has doubled! Fantastic for single and dual monitors and Google Chrome. Highly recommended!
This is perfect! So glad somebody made this extension.
This extension does everything it says it does. It does it well. You can whitelist or blacklist a URL or a domain. It doesn't seem like it takes any resources. It doesn't crash. My one recommendation is to build in keyboard shortcut options for the extension. Since I mute all tabs by default (auto-play is so common these days), it would be A LOT less friction if instead of having to click three times to whitelist a URL or domain, I just had to hit a single key combination. Besides that, great work!

Good extension, though it has some issues: The whitelist function doesn't whitelist domains? I want to be able to play youtube (e.g. music) while watching another tab with audio. Thus, it's a problem when my youtube tab is muted when I switch, despite having it whitelisted. Also, it doesn't mute tabs playing audio UNLESS I play sound from another tab. Doesn't that kind of ruin a major point of the extension?

Useful and well-done. The icon itself could be a bit more subtle. I definitely don't need a big red NEW on top of the icon every time there's a bug fix. Overall, though, definitely worth having installed!
Version 2 with the whitelist feature is pretty slick - definitely helps keep managing sound from your browser easier
Great extension! I didn't know I needed this feature until I saw it in action.
It works as intended, and helps with unnecessary annoyances while jumping through multiple tabs. Version 2.0 definately improves on the functionality. Thanks for constant support Chyno Deluxe!
