Used this for about 5 minutes and got frustrated with it. The search functionality was not working for quite some time. It is case sensitive by default (unless you hunt for the setting) and the words are only highlighted on the page with the same color you use when selecting text. The screen does not jump to the next results so you have to scroll down the page yourself. Very annoying, download one of the other regex extensions.

I believe this extension is no longer being supported, which is evident in its usability. I've noticed several issues, including word boundary issues, an awful UI, and the extension's markup injected into the web page remaining after the extension closes. If you're trying to match a pattern against an inline piece of text spread over multiple elements, forget about it. This extension should either be updated or removed from the store altogether.

Can we have multiline support added?

This review is from 2017-03-20, so that the author doesn't mislead you about how old the reviews are. This extension doesn't scroll found items into view, it just highlights them. Then it's up to you to scroll around and find them. Not worth installing, hardly worth reviewing, except to save others the time to remove it.

Simple but works well. It would be great if it could also find in all tabs at once. It would be better if it had the option to disable case sensitiviness easily. And be able to still use chrome shortcuts with the box opened (such as ctrl+tab). And I have an idea for this extension or a new one: While searching remove all lines except the lines that contain the desired words.

Worked after restart chrome Took one star off because it didn't work before I restarted chrome. Almost deleted the extension. It should give some sort of warning.

So great! Love it! FYI, as stated, you need to restart chrome before it will work!!! open tab chrome://restart and profit! Only request would be to have the scrollbar also highlight/represent matches.

That is pretty, asynchronous and fast search which makes it useful for the large texts. However, aside from not marking the outline on the scroll bar, it marks the matches in the text by corrupting your HTML. This makes the items that I am looking for non-clickable. What is worse, the markup fails to be revoked when the search bar is closed. The only way you have to clean up the garbage is to type some text into the regex window. I however expanded the extension with Close button https://github.com/gsingh93/regex-search/issues/34#issuecomment-231579966 which both revokes the markup and closes the popup.

UPDATE: You need to restart the browser. All working now. PREVIOUSLY: Seems to have stopped working - disappointed. I originally wrote: "Works as expected. Note that when you install the extension you'll need to refresh any pages you had open prior to installing to get the search to work. After that, good as gold."

Serejka Flare February 13th, 2016

It works, but only if you enter search string after all ajax elements has been loaded. If you start searching, then, for example, scroll down to load more dynamic content, matches from this content will be omitted in search results. Also there is another bug on ajax-based sites. If you change page on such site, results bar on top left corner (1/100 matches) will still be displayed. Both bugs appears, for example, at vk.com Also there is no hotkey to display next item that matches the regex.

The plugin worked right away for me. However, it ignores parentheses. Searching for [(The)(the)] matches any instance of T, t, h, or e. It also doesn't search document types like PDFs when viewed in Chrome; only html.

Um... Installed it and it doesn't seem to find anything. There appear to be no instructions. The github repo is also devoid of useful info. I'm not going to read the source to figure out how to use it.

It doesn't seem able to find stuff that might be separated by HTML logic. For example, if the underlying HTML is: "<strong>Wow</strong>!" and you search for .Wow it doesn't match. It would also be good to know what regex library it uses so we could know how to best frame our regex (it's obviously not using PCRE)

Really nice and useful but its missing marking the selected lines on the scrollbar. I think this is one of the most important parts of the standard search because its a way to quickly find where the results are grouped

It's great! I'd been waiting for this feature for a long time. The regex are Javascript, so it's easy to find documentation. When trying for the first time, make sure you reload pages loaded before the extension was installed prior to searching. Also watch the case-insensitive setting. These are the 2 goofs I made when first testing it. Also, the author points out the trick of customizing keyboard shortcuts at the bottom of the chrome://extensions page. Very useful!

Works great for me on both chrome and chromium. To all the people giving low reviews, remember a lot of extensions won't work on a tab that has not been reloaded since installation. And I hope that everyone at least restarted chrome before writing this off as a broken extension. One serious flaw I have found is that valid matches are ignored if matching text is broken up into separate html elements.

A Google User October 25th, 2014

It kind of works. If you thrown in more than 3 token groups it seems to break it.

Works great! ★★★★★ TO PEOPLE WHO CAN'T GET IT TO WORK: Did you remember to hit [Search] or did you just hit [Next] without first searching? Note: regex type is JavaScript RegExp object (I found it in git→regex-search→content.js), and appears at a glance to be similar to extended regex or pcre. Humble Suggestions: - Until the user presses "Search", please hide or at least "grey-out" the [Next] and [Prev] buttons. - Swapping the locations of [Search] and [Clear] so that [Search] is on the right makes more sense to me. - Please add the regex type to the documentation so we know what to escape (even though in retrospect it's kind of obvious that you would've used js RegExp, it didn't occur to me until I peeked at your code). Thanks for the great extension!! Old suggestions: - A hotkey to open the search dialog would be nice, and even more-so if it could be customized. EDIT: My apologies for not noticing that you could already do this by going to "Keyboard shortcuts" at the bottom of the extension page!
