It does exactly what I need. One powerful feature is the regular expressions capture groups ($1, $2). I did not see it mentioned in the help wiki but it is very useful. Often I find pages with phone numbers like xxx.xxx.xxxx where I need the format xxx-xxx-xxxx. Search and Replace does the trick effortlessly. It would be cool if there was a way to invoke the extension with a shortcut like Alt-R or something to execute the currently specified search and replace. Thanks for a great extension to increase productivity for many!
I wanted something which worked in the gutenberg wordpress editor and this works perfectly! Thank you.
Works for Jenkins! No more painstaking manual replacements. **If you are trying to use this extension on Jenkins, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE "Only change visible content?" ENABLED!** Maybe the developer should have this enabled by default? It seems many people are making that mistake.
Worked for Notion. Couldn't believe my eyes :)) Great. LE: Page gets stuck soon after, updates are not persisted (they end up deleted on refresh)
Works perfect, thank you.
My life would suck without this tool. I've tried SO MANY different Find&Replace tools for Chrome, but none have worked for "input fields" like this one has. Almost all of them only change what I can see (like if I no longer wanted to see the word 'Lakers' and wanted to see 'Clippers' instead). This will make an ACTUAL CHANGE to the input fields on the web forms I use for my job. The only trick (for me) is that in order for the forms to remember the change, I have to click in the box (or just hold down tab until it runs through every field on the page, which is usually quicker and lazier). Considering I have to make multiple changes on hundreds of pages, it's absolutely worth it. THANK YOU.
Works perfect! ty
What's up with the new permissions? Manage apps, extensions and themes? What's that for? EDIT: New version with reduced permissions works well. Thanks!
extension began to steal passwords and other data?
I used this extension -- and loved it -- for about a year. For some reason the latest version is asking for a bunch of new permissions ( Manage your apps, extensions, and themes ) that are getting flagged, quite properly, as security issue. It wasn't broken -- why 'fix' it by requiring all these permissions? I'll give it a couple of weeks before I come back and mark it as abusive...
works better than others
Thank you! I just save an hour of work!
Awesome!
I like this extension. It works though it takes some time to get used to or you might end up with some really odd words. I mainly use it to read novels online. I would like it if you could add an "always change" function "to site" without having to manually input the changes each time a new page(in my case, a chapter) is loaded. Something similar to AdBlock.
Used it once, erased all my code. I'm not going to browse the doc and ask for support for such a basic function.
Very simple but it gets the job done. It would be nice that it scrolled to the text that is currently replacing, or that it counted the total results. It's not fool proof, as you can break something if you're not careful, bu at least it works (unlike other, more complex extensions that not always do).
It replaces parts of words, for example: Replacing he with she, it would replace father with fatsher. This addon is useless.
Doesn't work. Tried it on critterdb.com with "Input fields only?" checked, and while it "looked" like it replaced the text in the input fields, those changes weren't actually reflected anywhere. It is, therefore, worthless. That particular site has a live preview of changes to the input fields and it shows that there are no changes. Saving results in none of the "changes" being saved. Add-on needs to do some kind of action to actually edit the field so it's recognized as having been edited or something. The add-on clearing all input fields if it's attempted to be used without "input fields only?" checked is also a real problem that shouldn't ever exist.
Still works great in 2019! Fixed up the mess on this page to something more readable :) https://www.princeton.edu/~hos/mike/transcripts/thompson.htm
Doesn't do shite in Wattpad.
Does not work with Text Area, sometimes works with text fields, usually crashes and clears all fields instead of replacing the values.
Rubbish just will not work plus the pop-up doesn't resize properly meaning the tick boxes are not displayed...
Works great for me. Using it for 2 years.
It worked! The other extensions didn't on the website I was using! AMazing
I have been using this on some complex Drupal forms with a mix of text and text area input fields. It has allowed me to apply global edits (simultaneously on different input field types) saving me an incredible amount of time. Also used when editing lengthy WIKI pages to make global alterations. Works just as described.
Tried several times to use this with Oasis Sandstorm for text editing. It ended up erasing / collapsing everything typed on the page. I'm removing it now. However, I wish the developer luck as no one has made a good find and replace for browsers yet.
It does the job, but it does not seem to support all text areas. It certainly did not do anything with the text in the Wordpress.com editor.
Didn't work for me. It found and replaced the text in some places, but not others.
Perfect when working in html code, saves me a lot of time! thanks :)
This tool has saved me hours of work. It works really great for WordPress. I prepend labels to page names and then use this tool to remove the label once I have added the page to the menu. Really useful for multilingual sites. Definitely be sure to check the inputs only option when you are working with this tool in WordPress.
Great concept; would love to see a keyboard shortcut feature as well as to avoid future newbie heart attacks, when searching through list makers like simplenote, it's important to only check of input fields not all or else you'll get an updated blank field that Ctrl+z will not be able to undo. Luckily in my case for Simplenote, a refresh worked.
not work
didnt work
THANK YOU SO MUCH! EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!! YESSS NO MORE REPLACE ALL IN INSPECT.
It did what it said it would do. Nothing more, nothing less.
the add-on is not working at all! when I Used the add-on, it was erased all the data instead replacement.
Works really well for me. The only thing I've noticed in any way negative is that both the "Replace Next" and "Replace All" replace all instances. This is what I want, so it's not enough to bring it down a star, but I can see how it may affect some.
Does what it says on the tin. Saves me some time re-labelling input forms I work with, mass replacing one word with another easy to achieve. Can't complain.
Can't replace something like """
Simply does not work
Don't know what it did in my online notes app, but it completely wiped the note that I was editing. (Fortunately I had a backup.)
Find and replace doesn't work. The text you want to replace will be just "masked" but nothing really was replaced. Tried changing some, the text was "gone" but when you put focus on that form, the text remains (tried it on Facebook)
did not work at all for modals :(
Good idea but implementation isn't great. Disables existing javascripts in some case
Works perfectly with Chrome and Youtube. I run a Youtube Channel where I upload lots of music videos and need to edit the same fields over and over (for stuff like artist and label). This extension saves me so much time and so far haven't encountered any problems with it.
the extension will be good if it gives option of replacing words in all tabs..i request u to give this option
saved me about 10 minutes of writing a javascript loop to replace 300 input fields in a custom application. Thank you!!
it dose't work . very bad
Awesome, it wiil be more awesome if there would be an option to replace text in all opened tabs.
it replaces text, but it also messes up the web page
Works perfectly, but the replaced words go back to normal upon refresh. for this reason, i am uninstalling until there's a way to keep it replaced.
This extension saved my sanity. Worked out of the box for me. Had a massive drupal webform that required changes over and over. Could take hours to change one sections' key fields and various css classes. Found this extension, OMG. THANK YOU!
Regular expressions are far too difficult to use for non-technical users. Value is limited without a simple to use wildcard system.
works just fine. saved me a ton of time
Worked like a charm!
can't set up rules and save them? You have to manually type in the replacement words every single time. It's not saving me any effort. Not useful.
awesome! I updated 13 URL strings in one click!
Screws up the format
I saw a post saying it was updated and works now. I'm not sure what was updated but it didn't do a darn thing for me. Don't waste your time
Aftre replacing and refreshing the page, the design of page is messsed up. In this page, it messed-up the banner ! http://demo2.transvelo.in/electro/
Makes for a good time.
It clears the textbox O.O
gud
Doesn't work
Im trying to get it to work with Wordpress, but it does nothing instead of taking me to the bottom of the page.
Hi! I am trying to use your tool in a custom enterprise enviroment. Replacing words works just fine but after I try to hit the save button in the custom app, the words go back to normal. My theory (I am not an IT professional) is that there needs to be some action performed in the field in order to save it, since if after replacing I do any type of manual action in the field (e.g space+backspace) it saves perfectly fine.. Please, could you help?
Not working
I formerly gave this a poor rating as it did not work for me. The developer emailed me a while ago letting me know that he updated it and I must say that it works great for me now (mainly used in WordPress backend). One thing - is there a way to have the changes highlighted until I exit Search and Replace?
If it doesn't mangle the entire document, count your lucky stars.
Really garbage. Doesn't actually seem to do anything to begin with, and with no way to skip a replacement or give focus to the latest replacement, it's really just useless.
No work
This extension has saved me hours and hours of manual job. Thanks.
It works, but there's a lot of flaws with it. In my case, the tool would only work once, and I would have to uninstall then re-install it for it to work again. As Eugen Jeno mentioned, having a highlighting/jump scroll feature would really help to improve this extension's functionality.
Fantastic, solve many problems! thanks
It doesn't work. I refreshed.
I had a few challenges getting it to work as expected initially; with the defaults, performing a search/replace against a text box would cause the contents of the text box to vaporize. But specifically enabling the "Input Fields Only" option fixed this, and it's definitely enhanced the capability of one web application that sorely needed such functionality.
Find and replace worked for basic text, but it removed all text formatting.
When I wanted it to replace < with qwop (so i could replace > with < then qwop with >) IT BROKE THE SHOTZIN HTML!!!
Doesn't work. Finds but doesn't replace in Wordpress backend.
Blindly replacing. For a decent usage experience, it should highlight and jump(scrool) to the text to be replaced and add the option to find and THAN replace, not jus Replace and Replace All.
I have needed this add on for fast search and replace of text in input fields of my Jenkins (CI) jobs. It helpet me a lot. Greap app. Five star !
AWESOME job! The new version fixed a bug in Gmail and now the Enter key works too :) Plus it's lightening fast now. Very happy :) :) :)
unusable. pls remove ads
new update not work on my chrome
Unusable now. Was working perfectly until a few days ago.
remove the ads
Simply does nothing.
Great extension, it would be great if you add the sticky option that will open on the extension in page until refreshing the current page.
After checking a checkbox, you can't uncheck it.
Doesn't work at all on latest version of Chrome.
You can also replace words and I love doing that. The HTML is great. Now I don't have to change the elements
fgg
I use it to replace dates on a online video content managenent system, it changes the dates at first but when I click on the box it automatically reverts back to the last date. Almost working perfectly for me but not yet there.
It didn't work, even after restarting chrome. Maybe it's because I'm using the 64-bit version of chrome?
Will not work after you install until you refresh the page!
After trying it, I found that it didn't allow us to enter entire list in one go, so that we could keep the script ready and paste and execute one needed. It changed one entry at one go, by manual entry. That kills the wider purpose of this extension. Please see Foxreplace of firefox and modify accordingly to make it more powerful. Thanks.
Works fine. If it doesn't, make sure you've reloaded the page you're trying it on since installing the extension. Also try checking "input fields only". I was trying to alter 28 instances of lengthy code stashed in tiny fields within a wordpress plugin, and it didn't work until I checked "input fields only". Worked afterwards & saved me from having to do a ton of tedious code tweaking.
doesn't work at all
Excellent! Perfectly works in Facebook Albums
No hotkey, doesn't work for inputs in iframes
doesn't work.. clicking Go does absolutely nothing
Even allows wildcards and regular expressions. Incredibly useful with Workflowy.
