It was working well for a while, but it's stop working consistently lately. The only way to fix it is to toggle the on/off on the extension.

Used for many years but noticed today that its no longer working.

I feel it is necessary to inform people that you need to pin the extension. This can be done by clicking on the puzzle piece icon in the upper right. Then scroll to Tab Muter and click on the pin to highlight it. Now you will have a speaker icon next to the extensions icon. (puzzle piece) Click on this on this speaker icon with the tab that you want muted open. I hope this helps.

removed it before i realized that I still had some tabs muted, so now they're stuck muted even after I reinstalled and tried to unmute :/ Worked, but worked a little too well in my case

i use scratch and it got really annoying when i wanted to hear one tab but heard the other too. Thank you!

I absolutely adore this extension. In my opinion it is crucial to the way I choose to watch Twitch streams.

It used to be good, but recently I've found that it seems to crash or break far too often, usually after extended use of the browser. Always requires the browser to be closed completely and reopened. I know it's probably minor, but I don't know, I just don't like my extensions having lifespans, I guess.

The plug-in keeps getting corrupted and crashing my browser. I have tried "repairing" it through Chrome's repair function, but it still is causing problems for me. It worked well when it worked, but unfortunately it's not working for me.

*As Apr 22*, the keyboard shortcut ctrl+m has stopped working. Any chance of enabling another one? A must have extension to use with Chrome since its update. I use it the other way round, I have all tabs and sites muted by Chrome and use the extension to unmute tabs.

All was great until today 4/13/22. I could mute one tab at a time so I could decided which tabs I wanted to hear. Today it now has either full site is muted or not muted. I will have multiple of same site open. I.E. twitch. I do not always want to hear all the streamers I am listening to at once. The icon is shown either as slashed threw or not but that has no baring on if the tab is muted or not. i used to be able to click the icon. I am not sure if it is an update glitch and will eventually be fixed or is it just no longer useful for what I want to use it for anymore. I loved this feature until it stopped working properly.

Really awesome little extension! I love using it on individual twitch tabs to lurk on streamers but also have the view count while watching another stream. 10/10 definitely recommend :)

It works but it's limited. tabs should start with sound disabled by default, but sound is enabled until you click the icon. No means to specify specific URLs for sound muting. Sill looking for a complete sound muting solution to combat the tyranny of user-hostile web-degelopers.

It makes my chrome keep auto muting all new tabs

It works well when I'm on the muted tab, but as soon as I switch to another tab, the other one is unmuted. I'd like to know if there is some way to solve this.

works great! I use it so I can have it on while ignoring the lectures I have to watch for online school. I prefer just googling how to solve the problem cuz it's quicker

Just installed this tab muter app after trying out two others for Chrome that were not only clunky to use, but quickly got corrupted with pop up adware that would hijack Google search. Really glad to find this one, as it is very simple to use, simply go to a tab you want to mute and click on the icon on the toolbar. Click again to restore sound. It's the closest thing to having the feature Chrome deleted. Thanks!

Seems to automatically mute every tab now and requires me to click it to unmute, and when I removed it it still muted tabs. very nice

This extension is super handy to have and I recommend it for anyone who wants to watch YouTube during class because it makes it so easy to listen to your teacher by muting a tab with YouTube and then unmuting it. Also, it is really good for muting game music without having to go into the settings and it also is good for muting ads. It is really easy to access if you pin it and I use it on a daily basis and I could not live without it (I mean I could but it would just be less convenient). P.s. it is great at trying to find out where an annoying sound is coming from like because you can just mute each tab and figure out your problem.

Was working until recently, no longer activates.

The extension recently stopped working. It appears the "debug.js" file has been removed from the bundle which is causing background.js to fail to execute. Once the developer fixes this the extension should begin to work again.

This is the best tab muter I've found, it did however suddenly stop working. If it's a bug on their end I'm sure they'll fix it soon if it's something I did hopefully I'll find the answer soon.

Just got this extension and seems like it will be great but for the fact that it won't mute any tabs for Google meets (which is why I want it in the first place). Anyone have any idea why that might be? Thanks!

Thank you for this. The trade-off here is we'd have to add another icon to the toolbar to get mute tab functionality back, albeit only on active tab (have to switch to the tab to mute). It's just really bad Google removed this option, it's one feature I couldn't live without since I moved from Firefox and now I'm starting to think about going back. Firefox has tab muting with a single click working out of the box, no silly hidden flags. And the best of all is that we can remove the close button from all tabs so it doesn't interfere with the muting. Is it possible to remove the close button from all tabs in Chrome? Also, can you default to the light icon for incognito?

It's really sad that Google removed this and that pkcastings on reddit said that it requires a bunch of code but then proceeded to say that Firefox and other browsers also contain that complex code. Excuses. btw it's a good idea to switch to Firefox or even MS Edge.

The only problem I have with this extension is that it always starts Muted. It's very annoying to have to unmute every single website I go to by default.

Life saver. I used to like the muting tabs feature in Chrome until they removed it. This extension does the same thing; despite the button being in a slightly different place but it works flawlessly. It mutes/unmutes the tab you are currently viewing and ONLY that tab (it won't mute the whole of Chrome - just the tab you're viewing at the time of pressing the mute/unmute button).

Suggestion : Please change icon color as it is very difficult to see the icon and click to unmute tab if we have chrome Dark mode enabled. Both are black which is making it difficult for us.

this is not a restoration of the tab mute functionality. the idea of tab mute is to click on the audio icon of the tab when you are not in it to mute it from another page. if you have to open the tab to mute it, you could just mute the audio source in the page itself.

No idea why Google keeps insisting on removing the ability to mute individual tabs. First they removed how clicking the icon would mute it, but now you can't even right click and mute a tab. You used to be able to fix this by going into your Chrome flags, but now even that option is removed. My guess is they want to make it harder and harder for users to be able to mute ads. This is the next best alternative. The only annoying thing is you have to actually go into the tab you want to mute and then click the extension. But that's not the devs' fault, it's Google's.

Thank you for making this! Removing users' ability to mute individual tabs was an incredibly dumb thing for chrome devs to do; if they thought doing so would make chrome more light-weight, they should realize that they're only forcing users to have to load an extra extension.

Thanks for this simple but effective extension. Apparently Chrome just keep removing functions i use. Works with dark Chrome with a light icon, and a dark icon for default Chrome.

To the devs at Chromium Project and Google Chrome: You dun goofed. To the author of this extension: You ungoofed the dun goof. Thank you for creating this very simple feature replacement which actually makes more sense than the Google Chrome feature which had the mute button on the tab. Shame on you Google for pushing other users to Firefox, now I'm laughed at for using chrome while the devs are cutting off important limbs left, right and centre.

Thank you so much for this, I'm transitioning from Firefox to Chromium at the moment and found the lack of tab muting quite a let down. Also, well done for offering the light icon choice, that's something many extension creators seem to overlook.

Thanks for this. I think removing this function was a ridiculous and stupid idea on google's part. Not as good as the original function (used to be able to mute a tab without opening it) but better than nothing & the best you can do.

I used this feature all the time, why would I want to mute a whole site? That doesn't work for sites like Twitch. The mod is not a 1/1 due to Google not allowing modders to put stuff in the tabs, but it's a lot better than not having it at all. The only thing is that the extension icon doesn't have a background, so if you run Chrome in dark mode its very hard to see. Works as advertised.

Thank you for this extension, just one minor quibble: I use a dark theme and since the extension icon is black it is hard to see it. Other than that, works as expected

Great extension for a feature ripped from my hands, almost as good as the original way of doing it. Can't click on the mute button to mute it anymore, but either leave the button on the toolbar or right-click the tab and its just the same. Thanks for doing this and keeping it open-source!

Does exactly what it says. No need to change a flag that you may not be familiar with. It just mutes the tab you are currently viewing. Can't ask for much more than that. Thank you for this simple but needed option restoral.

Thank you. I've been using the Mute tab feature since its implementation years ago. suddenly i am not able to. I do miss just being able to click the little icon on the tab itself, but this works well enough. "Mute Site" from google is completely useless as often times i have multiple tabs open from the same site and need to only mute 1 or two not the whole site.

I don't know what's wrong, but this extension isn't working for me. I checked to make sure it was enabled, and it is. Still can't mute tabs. Right clicking on a tab only gives me a "mute site" option. No option to mute the tab. Clicking on the sound icon on a tab does nothing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Does exactly what it says it does. The only request is to have the option to change the color of the extension icon on the top right (if that's even possible) to white or another bright color. I currently have a Dark Mode chrome appearance so the black icon on dark grey background is difficult to see. Obviously the dark mode is something that I installed myself, so it has nothing to do with the functionality of the extension itself :) Thanks!

THANK YOU. Chrome devs had the audacity to remove the tab muting feature for no reason so I had to resort to using this. Also thank you for adding a dark/light theme option!

Thank-you so much for this extension. I held on to the "Mute Tab" chrome build as long as I could before a forced update. I didn't realize how often I muted individual tabs until I couldn't do it any more. You have given me some control over my browsing experience back.

Ever since chrome removed the tab muting feature I have felt as if my very existence has been hollow. This extension works perfectly and restored meaning to my life.
