I used it for a few years and it worked pretty good, with the occasional collision with Chrome Sync where it duplicates your bookmarks. If you have a backup of your bookmarks (you should it's in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default) With that it's easy to restore, but the issues became more frequently recently, and since there hasn't been an update in 5 years, I think it's time to look for an alternative.

I'll give it three stars because I've been using it for 2 years, and although it's been good in the long run, it occasionally drives me crazy. Firstly, it doesn't play well with my favicon changer, and bookmarks I have that have a different favicon will sometimes disappear or teleport to a new bar. Secondly, and most recently, hence the reason I even came to the reviews, is every time I come back around the second bar is empty. I fix it, then go back around again and it's empty. I would recommend giving it a try, and I feel like it's not as buggy as when I first got it, but understand it might be hit or miss. Also, I'm sure part of the issue with syncing etc might not really be solvable, so I try to endure that.

It actually works, as long as you aren't trying to do it on multiple devices at the same time. I have been using this extension for the past month with links separated for work and home. I get to work, click it, and then go about my day. Get home, click it, and enjoy my social media.

Unfortunately it's duplicating my bookmarks. At the time of writing this it had duplicated my bookmarks to around 1.5k. I originally had less than 100. This has potential but I think the Devs are having difficulty with chrome sync.

it may seem all awesome and epic at the start, then it duplicated all my bookmarks and messed everything up, DO NOT INSTALL, you will regret it.

Does't work with multiple devices because of the logic of the swapping process

Upon installation I lost all of my bookmarks. Very angry as I live by my bookmarks. Worst extension issue I have ever dealt with

This extension works great! I really just wish a shortcut key could be assigned to toggle between the different bookmark bars. It would really add an extra level of convenience. EDIT: Turns out you can assign shortcut keys to your extensions. Just go to 'chrome://extensions', scroll to the very bottom, click on 'Keyboard shortcuts', and voila! This extension becomes infinitely more useful!

This was working great, until it wasn't. I had issues with it moving my bookmarks from one bar to the other arbitrarily and causing me more work than it saved. I will be uninstalling.

The existence of this one extension at last inspired me to make the switch from Firefox to Chrome browser. It was Roomy bookmarks that kept me with Firefox because the Chrome version, which tried to make a multi-row of bookmarks, does not work well. I used a macro program with mouse moves to make my own hot key to toggle between the multiple rows of bookmarks and that made Switchmarks almost as useful as the Firefox version of Roomy Bookmarks.

Lately all it does is to keep duplicating and messing up bookmarks, as well as mixing up bookmarks from different bars.

It remembers which switchmark i am on when traveling between computers, but I would like to see if remember which the computer was on last rather than switch to whichever one i used last. Thats my only complaint :)

only thing i would love added to this is the ability to set a short cut to cycle through the different bookmark bars. it also has a few annoying issues. when i first open chrome if i click the button in the first 5 seconds it puts all of my bookmarks in one folder. also randomly moves one of my bookmarks to the other folder.

flipping through the bookmark sets was tedious. I want my old firefox extension that simply allowed the user to add a second or third row to the bookmarks bar.

very good. 1. if you add keyboard shortcut for switching, it will be super cool. p.s. Jay N answered to that question below 2. sometimes, while switching, bookmark bars merge and i have to delete them manually. i could not observer under what circumstances, happened ~10 times in a year.

ok I have been trying to work with this. I like the concept and have been looking for something like it for a very long time. Chrome has only one bookmark bar and you gotta live with it, there are other solutions where you install an extension and you suddenly see more virtual bookmark rows but its virtual and looks messy. This is very good solution, clean if you manage it well. However it would have been the most perfect solution if it wasn't for the bookmarks being jumbled up as you switch from computer to computer. I use three computers, two of them in one area that I use simultaneously another in another. I try to close chrome browser to a switchmark bar that is empty like someone here suggested but I still get the messing up of bookmarks and I get frustrated because again I have to re-manage them instead of focusing on the work. I would very much appreciate if this switchmark concept fixes the issue revolving around the bookmarks being messed up as you use same account of chrome across multiple computers. Other than that, what a neat solution, thankyou for the extension. To toggle the bars via a shortcut I just go to extension page, scroll down and there you see link in the right side "Keyboard Shortcuts" and there I apply a shortcut

Just got it, and it does exactly what I need. Really nice for toggling my work and personal bookmark bars when I'm at work. ...Sure, I'd be nice if it remembered which bar goes with which computer (home computer->personal bar, work computer->work bar), but still loving it. Note, I don't know for sure that it doesn't have that feature, but it was mentioned in another comment; so, I assume it doesn't at the moment.

I've been using Switchmark for about a month now, and it's a solid app. Extremely useful, and (with the one exception noted below) almost totally reliable. I did have one experience of the links from one bar inexplicably moving to another bar (similar to the complaints made in other reviews), but it was not a random mixing. Rather, all the links from "Bar 1" got copied over to "Bar 3" (so Bar 3 ended up containing all the marks from Bar 1 and 3 together, and Bar 1 was left empty). It was easy to cut and paste them back where they belong, and it's never happened again (despite me trying to replicate the error every way I could think of). This happened while or around the general time I was manually reorganizing bookmarks by cutting and pasting them between the five bars I have, so maybe that had something to do with it. Again, I tried to replicate the error by doing this several different ways and couldn't get it to recur. I delayed writing this review until I became convinced that the app isn't just randomly moving things around, and that this didn't happen more than the one time. It's important to understand what this app is doing behind the scenes when using it. Basically, it creates a new folder called "Switchmark" under the "Other Bookmarks" folder. Then, it creates a distinct subfolder for each bar you implement, with the subfolders being named "1", "2", "3" and so forth (up to 8 total possible). When you click the bar-switching-button, it seems to perform the following actions, instantly, like a macro: 1. Cut all folders and bookmarks from the Chrome Bookmarks Bar folder. 2. Paste those folders and bookmarks into the Switchmark subfolder that corresponds to the current Switchmark bar number. 3. Cut all folders and bookmarks from the next sequential Switchmark bar folder. 4. Paste those folders and bookmarks into the Chrome Bookmarks Bar folder. Thus, at all times, one of the Switchmark subfolders will be empty (because its folders and bookmarks will be appearing in the Chrome Bookmarks Bar). Further, when adding new bookmarks it's important to ensure that you are tuned to the Switchmark bar you want the new bookmark to reside in. I'm wondering if this dynamic might be causing some of the confusion described in other comments. In short, this is a great app. It solved a big problem for me, and made Chrome much, much more useful as a central organizational tool. Many thanks to the developer - I'd send some money if there was a donation link.

I really like it, although i find that i stay on 1 bar on 1 pc and 1 on the other switching only on ocation. It would be nice if there was an option to disable syncing of the current bar across browsers.

It works perfectly for me. Would it be possible to have a dropdown for switching the bar rather than clicking the button to switch since if we have more than 2 bars it would take time to switch to the right one. And also offer a shortcut key to switch to the desire bookmark bar.

This worked great at first, but then the contents of my 2 bars started getting mixed. I eventually ended up with one bar with everything, and another with only half of my bookmarks. I tried to restore my original bars by deleting all my bookmarks and reimporting everything. I still had problems, so I've disabled this extension.

Switchmark is pretty handy. I've got several bars set up for different purposes. Having a hotkey to switch between bars would be nice, but I'm pleased with it overall.

It is quite problematic at first, don't know why. Content of different bars can get mixed, or all the content of one bar might disappear. But after a couple days of struggling I didn't have any problems in months. It's perfectly synchronised between different instances. As the developer says, it's beta, backup your bookmarks.

Same review as the first one: Unfortunately, 5 minutes after using it, the content of my two separate bars started randomly mixing.

Working for me. Have one request. When working in separate chrome browsers, I'd like to lock the bookmark bar for each browser. Then I could have one browser open for work with all my necessary work bookmarks and then a personal browser open with all my personal bookmarks. Right now, when I switch the bookmark bars, it switches for both browsers.

After installation it worked fine, I could switch between bar A and B. One contained all my current bar bookmarks and the other was empty. But when I added a page to the empty bar I was no longer able to switch. This extension is not yet ready.
