I don't understand how only copying the subject of an email into a Todoist item is helpful. Why wouldn't the body of the email be populated into the item description? And/or adding a link to the original email would be helpful. As is this isn't much faster / more helpful that just manually copying the subject into a new Todoist item.
The Todoist for Gmail extension has a repeatable bug on M1 MAX MacBook Pros and crashes Chrome when a Gmail tab is opened. This does not happen if the Todoist for Gmail extension is disabled but happens again whenever it is enabled. The weird thing is this does not happen on M1 MacBook Pros or an M1 Mac Mini, only on an M1 Max MacBook Pro 16. I have uninstalled the extension, Chrome and refreshed Todoist on the web with no success in eliminating the bug. I have reported this bug to Todoist and Google as it appeared after the last update of Chrome, but no response from Todoist and the ability to report bugs to Todoist is a frustrating process buried in their website.
This extension has been brilliant until this week. When I have it enabled and open Gmail in Chrome the browser crashes. So strange, please fix it guys, it's a big part of my workflow.
Doesn't work
3 years later and still doesn't work. It should be taken off this platform.
It was great, until Gmail's redesign: I have been working with the extension for several years and it was working great! I noticed that the new Gmail redesign does not allow the extension to work properly. I'm so sad! The new redesign kind of forces you to adapt Tasks.
I'm just starting with Todoist, so maybe it's me. However, I've spent an hour trying to get Todoist to work as an extension in my gmail and it won't land, no matter what I do. I can see that it's possible to send emails to Todoist (if I cut and paste the project address), but not to mark the email and send it directly to Todoist. This would be a core function, if it worked.
It's great except I wish there was tutorial showing me how to use it because it wasn't working at first. I had to install the add on from my gmail account and not from the chrome page.
Currently just takes me to the Inbox when I clicked a task created from an email...
Doesn't seem to work. I click on the icon and it just shows the loading screen. I tried clearing my cache, but after waiting for it for another 10 minutes I gave up.
Currently Nonfunctional
Does not work...
Cannot log in now, extension says: "CSRF tokens mismatch". Please fix it. Thanks.
Works in principle. But theres NO SHORTCUT to add a Task whilst reading an email. There is "q" mentioned, but this opens the hangout interface in the corner down left. "q" only works if the Todoist bar (little window in the corner down right) gets the focus. My expectation is to process my inbox without touching the mouse (adding emails as todoist tasks if necessary).

I had trouble at first but a hard refresh of the Gmail browser tab (mac: CMD + Shift + R) did the trick. I'm giving this a run. Looks great thus far. Thank you, Todoist, for being everywhere!!!!
I tried to log in but all the time when I log in it says this (CSRF tokens mismatch) IDK why or even how to fix this
Didn't work well with Toggl button
I just love this extension. It has made my experience so much easier, I have been using it for more than a year maybe and can't imagine a browser with this home page
The extension is fully broken as of 7/22/19 - only shows broken CSS elements: _dark .loading_screen--spinner .ring_track { fill: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.4); }
Working for as of 4/28/2019
Invalid or Missing CSRF token
Terribly plan to use a panel and many UI bugs make it unusable. Why not simply code up a collapsible iframe sidebar? Otherwise you're better off using the desktop app or the native web interface if you want to be productive. EDIT Feb 2019: Still utterly useless. A pop up that covers your inbox instead of using the built-in sidebar in Gmail? Why god, why?!
Currently doesn't work at all. When I click the Todoist icon within Gmail, a box pops up with broken CSS in it, the Todoist logo, and an otherwise empty box. Extension does nothing now.
About the Google's new interface problem, I tried logging out and logging in Todoist and then refreshing my page and voila! it works! Guess Hit Refresh works for almost everything. :) I'm sure most of you must have tried this, but it worked for me, so wanted to share anyways.
Used to be great then all of the sudden it started opening the gmail inbox in a new tab instead of the specific email that the task was created from. Contacted support and was told it was a known bug and they're working on a fix. It's been couple of months at least and no fix so far.
Unfortunately linking back to the email in question does not work with the new (well, not that new) Gmail interface – @Todoist: please fix ASAP! Thanks in advance!
Stopped working after recent update. Now returns 404 error, page not found. Shame, was good while it lasted
As many have now stated Todoist is currently having issues with the new 2018 version of Gmail. I'm surprised to see posts here going back to June (it's now the end of August) without a fix. It's a HUGE GIGANTIC problem if you're using Todoist to link back to emails. I've hope they fix this or I'll have to find a new product. I've contacted the developer but have recieved no reply as of yet.
Used to work. Now I get an error when loading Gmail. The extension still appears to be there but when I click on it I get a 404 error. I have tried this in both the updated and classic versions of Gmail. No joy. Just a thought, could this be related to chrome vs. gmail? Perhaps the new "site isolation" feature in v67+?
It adds a mini "window" inside Gmail that often grabs keyboard focus, especially when first loading or refreshing Gmail. It's frustrating to have to repeatedly grab the mouse in order to make the keyboard work again. On the Mac, when it grabs focus it even intercepts Command+R ("reload") and Command+numbers (switch tab). I can tell this is what's grabbed focus because hitting "?" launches the Todoist help page. If not for the focus grabbing issue, it would be three stars because it needlessly clutters the Gmail window. There's no option to permanently disable the mini window while keeping the button for turning emails into tasks. I didn't want Todoist cluttering Gmail. I only wanted the single button.
I'm very sad. This extension does not currently work with the new Gmail interface. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TODOIST as a standalone app, but the ability to link Todoist tasks to specific Gmail threads is critical to my workflow, and I'm no longer able to do so. I've contacted the developers, and I'm hoping that they are able to issue a fix soon.
Does't work with the Gmail. Works to send email to Todoist but does not "link right back to the original email so you won’t have to hunt for it later". With new Gmail only takes you back to the inbox NOT the original email. No update on resolution. So either use only the original gmail or find another task manager.
Big props to the ToDoIst team for a quick turnaround and listening to user feed back. Star rating has been updated accordingly. The issues I was having below have been resolved. Thanks! ---Previous---- Was a 5 star, now a 1 after the most recent update. Having the logo in front of every email is distracting and overbearing. Also, when adding a task it no longer uses the subject and link to the email. Only shows the inbox and email address. When clicked it takes you to that email address but not the specific email.
Back to a 5 star rating for having listened to users feedback and removing the annoying icon next to every email. -- previous -- After using the extension for several years I now have to give a 1 star rating due to the todoist icon next to every single email. Very distracting. Make it an option or remove it. Disabling the extension until a change is made.
AGREE. GET RID OF THE ICON IN MY GMAIL INBOX!
Agree with everyone else today. Get rid of that overwhelming and distracting column in my Gmail in box! I want it gone - kindly expedite this.
The red todoist icon beside every email is very annoying. Please turn it off or at least make it optional.
Loved this plugin until latest update, which has be accidentally clicking on the todoist icon now found next to every single gmail. This should be an option, not the new default. Am turning off this extension after years enjoying old design. The extension is now wasting my time rather than improving my workflow.
Ads a bright red todoist logo in front of EVERY single mail in the inbox listing and visually overpowers everything else in the interface. Really distracting.
Causes Gmail to crash in Chrome.
It's stalled out on my computer :(((
Hi, please creat addon for Gmail like - https://gsuite.google.com/marketplace/category/productivity . It will make possible to create Todoist tasks from moblie Gmail. Right now it is imposible to create task while reading mobile gmail.
I LOVE IT
Great for gmail, but more and more people are using Inbox. Please update so this works for Inbox as well!
Specifically reviewing the extension, the ability to parse emails directly to your to-do list is excellent, with a simple interface, good reliability and quietly powerful text commands that unobtrusively offer utility to those who need it. More generally, todoist is a very comprehensive todo app with useful integrations and features that truly aid productivity.
Doesn't work at all. I'm logged in on both gmail and todoist and the icon is still greyed out. The "general" todoist extension works without issue.
Very nice extension. One issue: When a task created using this extension is opened using a mobile app, the specific email for the task is not shown. Instead you are taken to the Gmail inbox. If the task is opened on the desktop all is fine.
I have used this extension for several years and it works great. Lately there were issues about not being able to login with this extension. I contacted support (which is great by the way) and they gave me this answer: https://support.todoist.com/hc/en-us/articles/208951085 I have not had a problem since.
Worth every penny, simply awesome
Every time I try to login from gmail it gives error: Bad Request CSRF tokens mismatch
I can't log in, no matter what I try. My account is linked to my Google account, but if i try that way, it get a "invalid or missing csrf token". if i try with email & password (yes, i set my pw), i get "Bad Request / CSRF tokens mismatch"
I have been using the free version for years and I plan on getting the paid version soon!
Useless now that Google redirects Gmail to Inbox. Inbox is a much better experience, so Google's actions make sense. And Todoist should adjust for this.
The screenshots show the gmail inbox interface (not viewing a single email) with an 'Add to Todoist' button, but that button does not exist. I want to be able to select one or more emails in the inbox using checkboxes, then add them all as Todo items. However, instead, I have to open each email one at a time, and then use the button on the email-view instead.
Icon in taskbar is grayed out. clicked on the settings in gmail and it was blank. Closed it in gmail and it doesn't work. I think whatever is wrong with this in gmail is breaking it across the board.
It doesn't quite work the way I would want it. The basic functionality is there: click on the button and a task is created; you can adjust dates, projects, and so on. However, (1) the integration with Gmail doesn't really work for people with multiple accounts (known issue) and (2) doesn't really work on the Android app (links to Gmail web site instead of opening the Gmail app). (3) There is no (easy) way to get the body of the email in the comments of the task, which would be particularly useful given the integration limitations, and (4) there is no way to customise the template for the task. I end up using the Zapier integration much more than this extension. The functionality just isn't there.
Here I am after over a year of use and I *still* use it every single day. Constant updates and very responsive support have earned my loyalty. This is an incredible extension with excellent Gmail integration. I don't have any intention of moving to Inbox, as it doesn't provide any features that I need (seems fluffy). I see no sense in the folks who are giving Todoist a lower rating because it doesn't do something that it never claimed to do. Yes, some features require a premium subscription. I am happy to pay for quality software I use every day. $29 a year comes out to EIGHT CENTS A DAY for an app I use almost every hour. I'm very pleased with Todoist.
I don't know how I lived Without This! My only desire would be to add lists without having them be tasks and maybe a way to integrate it with gmail so as not to have to forward an email to the projects or add them as tasks but instead have your email there and part of the app on or offline but offline gmail is always been a pill to find an app who can bring it in with the opportunity to better it with customization so we are most likely stuck with it! I love the app and if you take the time to learn it and use it to it's full capabilities you will love it too esp if you wish to find a way to get ahead of or demolish chaos! Thanks for all the great features and for always adding on as we go along :) Great owner who cares about us and shares new stuff with us on a pretty "happy that he has us as customers" manner. You do feel valued and the value of the pro version is worth it's weight in gold! Highly recommend!
Can you add an option to use Gmail labels from an email as its task labels?
very very good
Excellent add on. Keep it up
Not working
Sadly doesn't work with Inbox
I cannot see any icons after updated to Version 842.
Love it!
icon greyed out, cannot do anything!
The icon is grayed out and it's not showing the plugin on gmail.
Powerful tool in work flow management.
It is not working
Can someone please help me? The extension is not working! I can't click on it even though I'm in Gmail.
Please add support for Inbox.
Please can you fix problem with login to my account in gmail
The window appears to big and I cannot find a way to shrink it. Without this it would be great, but this problem makes it essentially useless.
Why does this extension add an icon to the Chrome menu bar? The Icon in the Gmail app itself would be enough. It is very confusing have more than one icon of the same app in the menu bar.
Very happy with it. Quite powerful. Not buggy.
It works better in outlook. Cannot find the extension panel after closing it in Gmail
does not work with google's "inbox"
does not work as advertised in gmail and i don't know how to now uninstall.
Kinda intrusive, but does its job. Looking for something that can be right clicked on calendar or dates with reminders that can be brought up when no apps are launched.
best GTD app out there.
No keyboard shortcuts to open it, must use a mouse. And once it is open, the "quick add" shortcut is flaky, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't... Come on Todoist, Gmail power users use keyboard shortcuts. This has been a constant request in your support forums for years... It can be done, apps like Asana have made it work!
Great functionality. I use it with my staff as well!
Nice extension so far. However there is one thing nagging me: I cannot skip over a word by pressing Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right while writing. This breaks with an OS-wide convention, and really takes the speed out of creating a task if you're used to writing like this.
Can't be dismissed if your browser tab is zoomed in beyond 100%, because title bar is cut off on top of screen. Stopped working randomly after that. Uninstalled.
I'm a super forgetful person, having an app built in to email that's also on my phone is super helpful.
Love Todoist (I'm a premium subscriber), but the Gmail gadget is seriously lacking. Frequently requires reloading Gmail, doesn't work well with preview pane enabled, doesn't allow many many options when adding an email as a task, and doesn't send email contents to the task (although it does make the task itself a link to the email). Much as I love Todoist, I'm thinking about switching to Any.do just for the vastly superior Gmail gadget.
Great app.
Amazing TODO list management system. I love the Chrome integration as well as the gmail one. I've switched from remember the milk, and this is miles ahead!
ToDoist comes up blank, used to work.
This extension works perfectly for me except for one thing: If I hit the x in the top right corner to close Todoist when I'm done, I have to reload the page to get Todoist back. I understand how to minimize Todoist, and I do that most of the time, but my reflex is to hit the x. I would just like an easier way to reload it.
can't use it at all or I am to stupid to get it... :/
Panel comes up blank and I can't find any troubleshooting forums to fix it.
No longer working. It will not recognize my google password or my todoist password.
You can only turn an email into a task if you disable the preview pane. That's limiting.
Great extension, I hope they support Google Inbox soon.
Promises Gmail integration, until you try the app and find that is a 'premium' feature ($34/year). Thanks, but no thanks.
Disappointed. It looked like a great app but it doesn't work with Google Mail. I may reconsider once the bug is fixed.
Perfect app
Love this app! However... With the recent update to Chrome ( Version 39.0.2171.95 m) My Todoist Gmail Extension comes up blank. I cant even use the 'Add to Todoist' Feuture. Please advise.
Great button added to Gmail for quick "Add" to Todoist - also integrates nicely with Todoist services. This is actually the first app that has a similar (but not as overall effective) app made by Google that I'm considering paying for instead of the free Google one! (gTasks is great, Shift-T shortcut works but there is no decent interface for sharing tasks between users so Todoist bridges this gap nicely).
