It doesn't always work with Vivaldi browser, specialty with tabs stack .

This extension is very useful. But it's kind of difficult to determine which backup I want to restore because there is no title aside from the timestamp. Maybe one field is enough for us to input the title, so we don't get lost if we want to find a specific backup that we want to restore. I guess that's only the missing ability of this extension; otherwise, it would be a 5-star already.

Perfect for restoring crashed chrome or when default tab history gets corrupted

Rocky January 16th, 2023

Sadly, like most Tab extensions, Tabs Backup & Restore fails to deliver on what it claims. For example, it is limited to `only' recent history. As a result of using, I had to pianstakingly go through my Chrome history to restore many tabs that Tabs Backup & Restore failed to store. Tabs Backup & Restore is severely crippled by its failure to record tab/window history, since it `only' stores 1 or 2 days worth.

Works great! The only thing I wish is that manual backups wouldn't be deleted after a certain period of time (or at least: would have a MUCH longer lifespan - like 3 months). I created a manual backup, then restarted my browser and delayed restoring the backup. After a day or two I realized that my manual backup had been deleted to make way for the new automatic backups.

Wow! FINALLY A SINGLE TAB CHROME EXTENSION THAT RESTORES AND SAVES SESSIONS WHEN CHROME CRASH DOESN'T RETURN THEM. BRAVO. One time this extension was not turned on for me some how though, so I did lose mass browsing history in that instance.

Excellent backup solution. Just make sure to set backups to 80 and timing to at least 10 minutes otherwise it might not go back far enough. Should be able to hold more than 80 though. UPDATE 10/28/2022 Does not support chromes new Tab Groups feature. Making this extension useless if you use that, which I do. Please update the extension.

Totally let me down as did not do the job, I expected, of restoring individual windows with their 20-100+ tabs.

Allan Laal November 10th, 2016

only restores URLs, not actual sessions. does not save Workspace info. incapable for dealing with large-ish tab sets of (~1000 tabs in 200 windows). waste of time!

Demonio Diabo August 2nd, 2022

Do NOT trust this. Only work for recently closed pages. I Lost 119 tabs because back up didn't work and simply disappeared.

Xalomon March 26th, 2022
Xalomon

This does not restore tabs, just opens new tab with saved URL (you lose the pages Back button goes to on the tabs.) Useless for many tabs (if you close a window with many tabs and use Recently Closed to open it, everything is fine. If you use this extension then ALL tabs want to be loaded in memory which makes Chrome and sometimes the entire system hang.)

This is a great app I use it not just for immediate backups but also to keep collections of tabs I want to re-open later on. I just wish there was a setting that allowed the tabs to be opened full screen instead of the reduced size. Thats super minor compared to how good it is otherwise. I do wish you could name the backups however.

It doesn't do things write. Or the thing , because it only has to to one thing and it doesnt do it. I open let's say 10 tabs in incognito mode, I allow it to work in incognito mode, i save the tabs manually close incognito, open it again, and it restores the tabs in normal chrome not incognito. well, what is the point to allow it in incognito, if it doesnt open the tabs in incognito ? what a joke of an extension

for me I tested all ways of crashing and closing the browser. I tried to kill tree process, shutdown the computer. delete the browser from task manager, sign out from windows, I tried all the ways that may close the browser suddenly and causes you to loose your opened tabs, and I found that this extension is the best, It survived last opened tabs in all browser crash cases. I strongly suggest this extension to you. And strongly thanks to the developer, you made something Wonderful. ?

It does not have 80 backups but like 16. I choose in the setup options 80 backups, but it does stop earlier and delete automatically older backups. Otherwise great app. Thanks.

I rarely use the app and when I need to use it the back ups disappear. I have scheduled the back ups and all the other stuff your supposed to do but suddenly all the back ups data is lost and no chance of recovery at all. I installed this for a reliable alternative to what I had been using before.

How difficult can it be to keep and restore tabs? This is, yet again, another app that I've tried that works good in theory. It keeps track of tabs. However, restoring them is a hassle. When I try to restore a previous session I get the "ahmkjjgdligadogjedmnogbpbcpofeeo is blockedRequests to the server have been blocked by an extension." error and cannot access any of my tabs.

Jim April 25th, 2021

it does it's job sometimes. it needs more options. An import/export option. Recent backups are overwritten. i have backups from 2017 with the FreshStart - Cross Browser Session Manager and Session Buddy extension.

It would have been better than Chrome's built-in "Bookmark all tabs" if tab groups could be backed up too!

Absolutely amazing extension, helped me save over 200 open tabs ! The auto save feature is amazing

Ekaterina Dzyubak January 11th, 2021
Ekaterina Dzyubak

This works to restore recent backups only. The auto feature backs up very often and there is a limited number of backups - which would be ok if it did not overwrite manual backups also once it reaches its limit. That was a really bad surprise for me as it did not have a clear warning about that. I lost an important set of tabs I worked with just because I did not need to use them for a week over the holidays. I saved them manually and never found them after about a week...

Nick D'Amico December 30th, 2020
Nick D'Amico

A must have feature in my opinion that is currently LACKING, and causing me to lose some open tabs is the ability to 'pin' a given backup in such a way that it is not overridden anymore by the automatic backups (ie, it doesn't count toward the max backup limit). This would be particularly useful for manual backups, which in my opinion by default should never be overridden by automatic backups. Hopefully the developer reads these comments

Alan K December 21st, 2020

This extension has saved my tabs many times. One suggestion, can you add backup/restore of tab groups as well. Restoring pinned tabs into a pinned state would be nice too.

RubySapior November 28th, 2020

My computer crashes twice in a row often. PC crashes once and twice before i can "restore closed tabs". This extension has been perfect for me. No more searching for hours through the chrome history to find all my tabs. Cons: This extension also reloads all tabs. All 86 of my tabs were opened and reloaded, which then started to play every single youtube video nearly crashing my computer a 3rd time and I have a I5 16GB pc. At least I dont have to worry about data loss.

Omar Bull-47 October 22nd, 2020

The only extension I could find which can restore tabs my multiple tabs & windows when googles crashes but when it restores it opens all the tabs at the same time, for example all my YouTube tabs open and start playing at the same time causing cpu to be on 100% load and pc really slow down. Please fix that developers. Then this will be perfect!

It is August 2020 and I'm still using it. This has saved me countless hours of having to go through my history and restarting tabs. Thank you! One thing - would be great if PINS could be restored as well.

Jim Kelley June 30th, 2020
Jim Kelley

Worked great at first but lately absolutely fails to backup my tabs, which is ESPECIALLY frustrating when Chrome itself offers the option to restore my tabs, and then proceeds not to when I tell it "yes". WHY?! This is supposed to be the BEST RATED app for tab backup and restoration, is it not? You need to be better. Get off your keisters and fix the bugs.

Tom Schi January 12th, 2020
Tom Schi

it's working nice, but we've often lost backups because they were deleted after max. 80 Days. Sometimes, we're searching for older data. The number of days should be a Textbox which accepts any number.

Peter S January 8th, 2020
Peter S

So close to great, but GARBAGE. "With Tabs Backup & Restore you will never lose your work again!" is what the author claims but I've lost over 100 tabs FIVE TIMES NOW. I just lost 145. Sound like fun to you? The preferences occasionally reset to defaults, reducing the number of saved images and if Chrome restarts after a crash and you're not around to catch it you can easily wind up with all your saved images being a single default tab. Few pieces of software are this aggravating. It's like any completely failed backup software... worthless for real protection. They could fix this and make it great software by simply NOT AUTOMATICALLY DELETING YOUR MANUALLY SAVED BACKUPS. ARG!!! FACEPALM!!!!

ok so i, like many ppl, was fed up with session buddy secretly lowering the number of times it saved your sessions. so i looked for a replacement and WOW where has this extension been all my life it is HANDS DOWN the best tab restore extension by far. You can choose how many times you want it to save your sessions from once every couple min to once every couple of hours AND you can choose how many sessions up to like 80 or some amount that is plenty. I can guarantee this is a hands down a better extension than the popular session buddy and in every way possible this extension is just what i was looking for. The one minor negative for me is that it is a little tough to know what session you had to re-open it since you cant go into it before and preview the sites or even name the backups but it does give a time it was backed up which helps enough to where i can get the session i want in 1 or 2 tries max.

Very nice, but if you are restoring lots of tabs (in my case ~400 tabs in over 50 windows) chrome will get stuck and not load all the tabs, even after sitting an hour. Please add an optional delay to stagger tab restores so that it has a chance to finish loading them (if I load them ~40 at a time manually, everything loads successfully in a half hour or so)

While this works like a charm on any other device, it seems to be unable to save tabs on any Chromebooks that I have tried it on. for anything else it would work, but it seems unfortunately Chromebooks can't really use this.

On occasion, sometimes by accident, and sometimes inadvertently, I've lost a whole window full of tabs. Tabs backup & restore has saved me more then once by continually monitoring and taking 'snapshot' backups of my open tabs and windows. This is an excellent extension to save your bacon on such occasions. For improvement, I would like to have the ability to: 1. Rename and save backup sessions. 2. Choose which tabs I want to keep and which I want to delete in a session. Reference Session Buddy. That extension allows to keep / maintain (pin) backups and delete tab items. Thank you.

Of the times i've needed it, it only "worked" once... not realising i'd lost a bunch of tabs all at once, the 5min/30backups (default) sort of messed me up. Now fair enough its a default, but realistically, thats only 2.5hrs of backups so if you dont notice straight away, your out of luck. It would have really saved my life if it had snapshotted daily and kept that for a year (as well as its normal backup) - given my current 30 backups are taking about 150k, another 365backups would only have added another couple of meg... pity

Joe Black November 1st, 2017

1: Keeps resetting to Auto Backup every 5 mins & 2: Maximum number of backups = 30 3: Default:150 mins=2.5Hrs is in sufficient if PC gets corrupted and the operating system for example Win10 have to be reinstalled - completely useless. 4: SAVE:should permanently save the settings and NOT keep reverting back to the useless default value that loses all the tabs. 5: Prefer:1Hr backed up 80 time=80 Hrs=3 days & 8 Hrs or 6:2 Hrs backed up 80 times =160 Hrs = 6 days & 16 Hrs 7: 5 & 6 will be less because of additional manual back ups that I would make. Too Lazy to edit my messsage just posted on OneTab: Therefore, any person using OneTab should also use Tabs Backup and Restore. One Tab & Tabs Backup & Restore both work perfectly well until they crash (Tabs disappears) and have to restart from scratch! It is even more annoying when the authors won't fix the relatively easy bugs'/faults' problems. 1: It should be possible to create backups which are stored on a different drive than the drive, which the operating system is stored on. For example if Windows 10 (Win10) is saved on the C:\ (C drive) than I should be able to save One Tab on a path on the D:\ or E:\ etcetera. This means that when and NOT if One Tab gets corrupted then after for example reinstalling Win10 I could then reinstall the backup file. Another method of looking at the problem is when I use CCleaner I always create a backup of the registry. 2: Tabs Backup & Restore keeps on sooner or later reverting back to the default of a few mins (think 5 mins) with a backup limit of 30, 2.5 hours. This means that by the time realize that there is a problem the original OneTabs have been permanently deleted! At the moment I prefer back-up = 1 hour with 80 backups that gives me 80 Hrs = just over 3 days to notice the problem and restore back-ups before they are permanently deleted. But it is about time that the authors solved the relatively simple problem instead of people falsely claiming that Tabs don't disappear if the settings are correctly set.

Seems to work as intended. But it doesn't allow me to save the backup anywhere than drive C, and that's the only reason I need it -- as protection against lost tabs in case I have to restore an earlier drive image.

Wow. This applet is kinda awesome. I lost a session that had someclose to 20 tabs and the windows just vanished. No crash report, nothing. Tried checking the trashbin, no closed tabs list. I was livid, chrome in all forms is notorious for this and the sessions manager is poorly done at best. I lost my tabs due to something going wrong and the current windows I was working on vanished, while the second window was untouched still playing youtube videos. This applet pulled the lost windows tabs up eve tho the windows vanished before I even installed the applet.

The concept and function are very good, I've been using this for about 6 months. However, I've recently started experiencing severe browser performance problems. Just started using it. Looks like just what I need to restore all tabs AND all WINDOWS after closing down Chrome totally. Before I used the trick of just killing all Chrome processes - where Chrome offer to restore all. I think Chrome should offer this every time it starts, not only the last window with focus. A couple of features wanted: 1) Please add option: EXEMPT all MANUAL backups from auto-delete when the number of backups maxes out. Also I would like more than 80 backups as a max. 2) Please add option: Restore PINNED tabs as pinned.

Composing a draft post in Tumblr that had taken me some time, which I lost when I shut down the wrong window by mistake. Looked through all the back-ups and all the extension did was take me back to the 'new post' page on Tumblr. None of the draft copy I'd laboured over was to be found. Perfect app, EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. Great for when you want to close Chrome and have loads of windows and tabs you want to reopen when you reopen chrome. Saves all your tabs and windows automatically, or at the click of a button, and can open them all simultaneously at the click of a button. Also great for reopening groups of tabs you recently closed, as it backs up multiple days if you set it to. Also great for if Chrome crashes or its closed unexpectedly, or your computer lost power, and Chrome didn't offer to restore all the tabs you were expecting when you reopened it. The main thing is that you can close chrome manually yourself an be sure you dont have to remember all the tabs you have, or that you might loose them when you try to reopen. I cant believe Chrome haven't built this into their own browser yet, I think I.e. and firefox do sometimes when you close them, but again i never trust that it will, and it usually only works when it crashes, especially in Chrome anyway. No need to end the task with task manager anymore, and hope i kill the one process of many that closes them all in one go. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. P.s. Recommendation/tip to designer if reading this, if it doesnt do it already, you could add a feature that it will auto prompt you do you want to backup the session if you ever try to manually close Chrome, just so you dont have to remember to go and do it manually. Also telling us where it stores these backups would be nice, and whether anyone else can read them if they had access to the backup files. Great app though.

I like the auto save function, but would like to be able to manually save and RENAME windows that would be kept permanently.

We should note that Chrome itself tries to perform this function and fails badly. I've come to think no extension can do this well. I've tried several extensions for this purpose, and find they all suck. This particular one may suck a bit less. Nonetheless, with a graceful shutdown of the Chrome browser (or a crash), this extension always thinks I had only 1 window with 1 blank open when I shutdown the web browser. I resort to restoring older backups, but they are usually a day older and don't include more recent tabs, which I try to retrieve from history. Nice try but no one is there yet.
