It would have been great, but the sidebar does not stop from flickering. Using Chrome on Ubuntu.
Near perfect !! i false so many slob vertical tabs extension lost easy function like.. lost focus tabs, cannot detach, middle click close, cannot size, lost position but now this extension can do everything good job!!
Does not work properly on a 4K screen, horizontal distribution has to be corrected after every start.
Not perfect, but the best (and probably only) solution to a customizable memo sidebar for Chrome. Too bad development has stopped.
Exactly what I was missing!
It used to work, with some window layout glitches. ie it would eat 10% of the width off the window each time you opened it. As of Chromium 71 it has stopped working. Bookmarks don't open any more, but it still handily eats the browser width. ;-)
I tried them all. Other sidebars wouldn't even let me drag url's into folders, so what's the use? Tidy Sidebar worked best of all. I tried to duplicate the criticisms on this page, but couldn't duplicate any (Windows 7 running Chrome). - Especially the minimize criticism, but no; Tidy minimizes/maximizes along with Chrome just perfectly. The only problem I had was with a program that I wrote myself, that constrains windows to within the screen edges. This caused Tidy to flicker a little, but I just added Tidy into my list of 'Exceptions' and all was well. This info I add as a warning to people who may be using other third party toolbars, or Windows desktop extensions. - You may be seeing problems that are nothing to do with Tidy. Well done and thank you to this developer for providing what Google couldn't be bothered to provide.
Something got broken in recent update. Bookmarks bar now keeps shifting to the left until it's off the screen and unusable. The previous versions didn't do this.
This works very well and looks good on my Chromebook.
It works but it still misses the organization that I had for my bookmarks before
Nice small bookmarking tool. Very useful if you have many bookmarks.
Simply doesn't work. Why is it so hard to create a sidebar bookmark addon for Chrome? Sticking with Firefox.....
It works - OK, there are a few little niggles, but it's far better than having no sidebar at all. Thanks to the developer.
It's a sidebar that does its job well as far as I can tell. Good job!
[Critical] Covers Up Browser w/ Auto Start, even w/ Docked Off, Docking to Wrong Window (other Sidebar) & Resizing over Browser. Still Docks with Dock off. 1) Even with Docked off, still resizes the Browser window and tries to dock with it (messing everything up, as detailed below) but just doesn't move with window after that. 2) It also messes up other panel windows like Tabs Outliner, and **tries to dock to Tabs Outliner sidebar, resizing that sidebar to almost entire screen, and covering up the browser** 3) Please just have it remember last window position - at least when Docked is off - so that I can for example, have it always start out on my second screen if I last positioned there, and so can workaround the **CRTICAL** bugs described above 4) Sometimes Options edits like disabling Docked don't get persisted (though above issues occur even when are persisted)5) Recently Closed Tabs doesn't refresh. Have to switch to another Tidy Sidebar tab (eg. Bookmarks) and then back again to see them. 6) Please always show Recently Closed Tabs, so don't have to click on History and then have it show up in tab bar to click on it. 7) Its extremely confusing how some "sidebar tab / toolbar buttons" like Recently Closed Tabs only show up based on last clicked on tab (eg. History). Either have them be in toolbar under the main one, or at least have a separate toolbar button group and different colors for them. It especially bad with how all toolbar buttons are same color and look alike.
It continually "throbbed" as it slowly expanded until the bookmarks moved off the left side of my monitor; absolutely useless.
Prefect thanks!
It's may not be perfect but at least, it's BETTER than not having a sidebar. Thank you to the developer!!!
Nice try but annoying to use. Most the time its halfway off my monitor or out of sight.
i love tidy developer
It's the next best thing I've found to a Firefox style sidebar although a little clumsy. Mine has suddenly stopped letting me middleclick to open in new tab despite the shortcut being active in the menu.
The sidebar is too narrow in its default width. Just resize it, right? No. When I try to resize it bigger, it no longer is left-justified. The left edge is somewhere off-screen leaving nothing useful visible. When I try to drag it to a useful location it snaps back.
Just solved a lot of complications quickly. Thank you!
Good start...but needs - adjustable divider - divider not transparent (so I do not see desktop icons through it) - narrower divider (or make divider width a setting) - horizontal and vertical scroll bars
I agree with most of the comments - good as a whole. Am I doing something wrong because I can't link the panel to the Chrome page so that they minimise together?
It's fine but it's not well integrated, I mean it does not show bookmarks and tabs in a side bar inside the main windows but in a second auxiliary windows. A full integration in the main winndows and an autohide option would make this extension perfect.
Best on market, not exactly what i was looking for, but surely best of all
Amazing ! very productive. Very Functional. Thanks a lot to the developer!
So far, pretty good. I can see that the issues people are having with the extension are related to the way Chrome handles things and not a fault of the developer's. Development appears to have resumed, with the last update August 1. That said, there weren't THAT many negative reviews. Kind of thin skin to let them shut down development. Especially when the developer's slogan is, "whatever will be".
I thought I'd give a quick review before I remove it. Really unusable interface. Pops up a slim window with no wrap so you can't read the titles. AND it actually has the audacity to move the window over to accommodate it! Excuse me?! 'Simple Bookmarks' is much better behaved, though by no means a 5.
100% the initial function opens the door to a lot of potential. Really need to communicate with the Programmer that created such EXCEPTIONAL work.
works ok. But being a separated windows makes all the user experience goes to the trash. May it be a chrome problem. Still looking for a better solution.
It works great! I just wish it was integrated instead of appearing in a new window. Otherwise, it's a great app!
Nice app. For me this is going to be way more efficient that the bookmarks bar. Dave Charlotte, NC
I had forgotten how great a sidebar is. This works perfectly for me, shame on the moaners. Great work, thank you
Resizes browser window every restart for some reason. Other than that it's pretty tasty.
Well done, thank you! I bet it was no easy task, and you did it! Shame on Google for now, not providing proper APIs and forcing the talented developers like you in seeking workarounds.
Thanks for developing this very useful tool.
Really disappointed dev has stopped. This is the best sidebar current avail for Chrome.
Operates as a separate window. Has to be turned off before closing Chrome or by closing it separately.
Works good. Best so far.
doesn't really update--ever.
Must be docked/integrated, not a separate window! Especially with the shadows on a Mac, really looks ugly. and the orange theme? yuk. Also positioning is not working right all the time... ALSO, why is there a character limit on the bookmarks screen width?! With multiple levels of folders and longish names of web sites, the names are cut off. I widen the window to see the whole thing but the characters are cut off anyway! I noticed there was NOT a limit on the history tab, but is on bookmarks.
Mind Blowing that someone pulled this off.
I liked the Bookmarks Tree structure in sidebar just like we have in Firefox. It need some improvement. If development is stopped, can you please share the code, so that I may try to fix/customize it according to our needs? Thanks
Buggy and frustrating to use. The sidebar keeps stealing the focus when the mouse moves over it.
THANK YOU! This is exactly what I've needed. It's a shame that something ilke this isn't already included in Chrome. Especially the bookmarks panel makes browsing a lot faster and more convenient. Will you ever continue developing this Extension?
The sidebar should be docked. This seem to be a big technical challenge. On top of being a separate window, the sidebar positioning is flawed. Pieces get on my other screen. It's incompatible/buggy with maximized window. Also, the visual style should be the same as chrome by default. Why shouldn't it be? These two points make the add-on EXTREMELY awkward and ugly which is most unfortunate. I'm sure the features are great, but I couldn't get passed the cheesiness that ruins the experience for me. l also wanted it to be like ff...l like their sidebar because when looking up a new book l could sidebar my library site and type in title,in other words the library site was opened in the sidebar..that was so cool..this extension only the bookmark...so disappointed
Might not be perfect but it's the best I've tried and it gives me something I didn't have before it! Keep up the good work!
Opens a new window instead of opening within the browser
Not perfect but I like it most than other similar sidebars for bookmarks
The extension is OK. Not perfect, but it will do for people who cannot use other browsers for various reasons. It lacks one function which toolbar developers always forget - remember open bookmarks folders between restarts. Because without this functionality sidebar isn't more helpful than usual bookmarks bar - you have to click many times to navigate to specific bookmark
Works well. Only issue is the text all cuts off at ~300px regardless of how wide the window is set.
oh this is juuuuusssstttt awesome man!
Great addon but there are some things that make it a second rate app. The style is gross and it only expands to take into account one level deep. So if you have bookmarks that are in folders more than a single level you have to start guessing what the end of the link text says. Seeing how it offers a way to expand it makes little sense that it stops expanding and starts breaking down if you go beyond the default. So I am still looking for a viable sidebar because this one just does not cut it for me.
At last, a usable sidebar for Chrome! Pros: - It's a bookmark sidebar - Also has history and recent links - Has a memo/notepad feature - Has a search feature Cons: - A separate window that is stuck to the main window, not perfect but it works (this is due to Chromes API's which seem to be designed to not allow sidebars). - Appearance and colors aren't to my taste; Very orange and icons at the top can't be changed. - Sidebar width doesn't seem to like to change. Requests: - Countdown timer tool that flashes at zero (for when I have something in the oven or to do later) - Block URL/link from working for XXX minutes (so I can stop things like Reddit working for a bit). - Refresh all missing page icons - Dark grey icons option (Chrome standard icons style) Bye bye Bookmarks Manager! Take that Google, why oh why do you refuse to give us a bookmarks sidebar!
good start, but still a bit buggy. - drop support for urls into folders is broken - spacing broken on macos
Finally, a usable bookmarks sidebar for chrome. It works nicely. The only oddity is to have an extra window instead of some split-pane in the main chrome-window, but i guess this is rather a chrome api limitation.
It's getting there. I'm waiting for a sidebar functionally equivalent to Firefox's bookmarks sidebar. What this one still doesn't do: when I click on an item in the sidebar, it doesn't highlight, so I can't keep track of where I was when going down a list of bookmarks. Also, when I bring another window in front of Chrome and then return Chrome to the front, the sidebar stays hidden behind the other window. Please address these issues!
This is in no way Firefox-like. It opens in a different panel, flickers and resizes every time it's openened. To change its size you have to use the options. It doesn't have an horizontal scrollbar, so you have to constantly resize the window to read bookmarks. Anyone saying this is anything like Firefox's side bar should be ashamed of themselves for lying to other users like that.
Just like FF? Whaat? It opens a new window that's badly aligned - not like FF. It's slow - not like FF. And allows no separators - unlike FF.
Awesome Firefox-style sidebar for bookmarks, history, and lots more!! It seems really cool. Been looking for something like this for a LONG time!
Perfect, nearly like firefox bar, but better. Thanks alot. This made me switch to Chrome.
Just what I waited for
Perfect!
Just what the doctor ordered! This could well be the impetus I needed to make the switch from firefox. Why the sages at Google don't make the bookmarks sidebar a permanent built-in feature of Chrome is beyond me.
Chrome is perfect with this app. Replaces the Firefox sidebar for me. I am on a Macbook Pro.
Works exactly as it should for me. :)
