Please, add an option to keep the new text lower case.
This extension does not work.
Doesn't have any way to configure replaced words. Clicking "Settings" brings you to the extension details chrome page only.
used to work great, but recently it absolutely did nothing to a youtube commenter's name (that had a whole uncensored slur in it that i specifically replaced). sooo the feeling of safety i had using it in the past is kinda gone now. tbf this may be a chrome update thing and if it gets patched i'll change this review.
"It's fast and it works" are the two chief praises. It's also unintuitive, a bit clunky, and some features don't work the way you expect. I wish the author would open source this so the community could contribute to it.
I decided to use this to help with practicing Swedish. It mostly works well, but in situations where the word I'm replacing is just a single letter it will replace that letter in words. Examples: Change I to Jag it replaces the I in Instagram to Jagnstagram. Also does the same if any replaced word is part of another word. Example: Change Me to Mig it replaces the me in came to camig. Is there a way to stop this?
I love it. The only problem being, I haven't used it in months and don't remember how to add another word to the list. Cuuld someone help me?
Perfect for name changes on work/school documents. Unhappy with your legal name or name presented to you online? Use this and you can see your correct name.
I liked this product to be funny, however had to disable it due to it causing issues with StackOverflowTeams when asking a question. It would make the entire screen act as though it was not editable
Does not work on modern Reddit. It changes the words for a while but reverts back to the original. I'm forced to use old Reddit because of this.
Does what it says.
It seems sometime the replacing happens before the page fully loaded. So the new loaded text are not replaced. So some of the words loaded after the replacement are not replaced.
Backspace makes the typing automatically go back to the start but otherwise it's ok
it doesent work
works well for me! unlike other extensions this one doesn't bug out on the images on google images. good work <3
i couldnt even open it. the tab wouldnt open
Doesn't seem to work anymore. You can add words or phrases to replace and you can enable them, but the settings don't save and no replacements are made. It looks like whatever code was exploited to make this work has been patched.
As many others have said, under certain common circumstances (e.g., writing a facebook post) using this extension causes the cursor to jump to the start of the link at seemingly random intervals, making it impossible to type.
Crippled input boxes. Cursor jumps around when it's enable, leading to garbled input.
Ever since installing this extension I've had a weird problem with text input fields. The cursor occasionally jumps back to the beginning of words like "This" and "Why" even when Word Replacer II is not supposed to be replacing words or a site. I've had to disable it completely.
This just made my day. Thank you!!
i cant find the manual
Had to uninstall because it makes cursor jump to the beginning of text type on multi-byte text inputs. Examples are Google Sheets formulas, Discord chat, and also portions of Facebook, e.g. https://www.facebook.com/events/birthdays
Perfect! Does exactly what it promises. You can export and import your rules, thus it enables you not just to store them, but also to create many rules e.g. by a script. (You can e.g. transliterate Arabic letters to Latin letters by inserting a Buckwalter transliteration table in the expected format.)
This extension has been pretty great! One feature it's currently lacking that would really help would be a way to have certain replacements only happen on certain web domains. A few times I've wanted to replace a word when reading a translated story, but not wanted that word to be translated elsewhere.
Would be a five star considering the features, but sadly it makes some site load extremely slowly. So I've since used ReplaceR instead, which although has fewer features, but works as intended and does not slow down any website
This worked solidly for me for months until recently, when it stopped working on almost every website I visited. There hasn't been any updates in months, so it's likely a Chrome issue, so your mileage may vary. But for the months it worked, it was very consistent and the customization options were very nice.
I feel bad leaving this review because I have had this extension for a long time now. But sometimes in 2020 it started messing up certain sites. On sites like Facebook I can't type anything because the letters move all over the place. For example if I type "Mary had a little lam, its fleece was white as snow", it would end up "ryhad a little Ma mb it's white as snow! fleecewas" Not sure what is going on but its unusable now.
Don't know if it changed since people left reviews but The UI is super easy and it works! I wish there was a 'Don't replace if part of a word' button on the simple replacement mode though.
Works pretty fast, no noticeable delay and it even supports RegEx rules. Honestly I couldn't ask for more
Pretty good! But it's kinda finiky. I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it to get it to work, my advice is don't change any of the settings, just use the thing/column/commands on the left, worked for me.
It works perfectly, but it does mess up stuff sometimes in some text fields, such as moving the cursor to the beginning when I press backspace.
It could improve by providing real-time text replacement. At present, it could only replace text at the initial page load but will not replace text loaded later during user interaction such as those loaded asynchronously. In future versions, there could be the option to group text entries by webpage or domain and have each group take effect only within those websites.
The only problem I had is that it glitched out my twitter scrolling when I had bee movie replaced with the bee movies entire script, which is kind of on me. Wonderful piece of software and has confused and amused many people I've sent out of context screenshots of the effects to
Keeps saying "Unrecognized format!" and nothing else. What a waste of time this was
Using it to replace the words "length" and "smirks" on Wattpad because people love using those nasty words
great for schools
idea is neat but this kind of extension does not allow per website basis? if you have 1 word replacement for 1 site while another word for another site, this extension can't do that. it'll apply both words for both site.
Absolutely terrible does not work would not reccomened
OK SO I JUST CHANGED "BEES" AND "BEE" TO "GREAT BOYS" AND "TERRIFIC GENTLEMEN" RESPECTIVELY AND I JUST- WHO WANTS SOME G R E A T B O Y S W A X CANDLES???
Does exactly what it says on the tin. My only request is to be able to enable/disable the extension based on url whitelists/blacklist (i.e. I basically only want it to run on one site). That said the logical progression is to be able to group replacements and enable/disable the groups independently based on the url, not something I'd use but I think many would.
Doesn't appear to work any longer
I was able to change my dead name to my new name. THANK YOU I LOVE THIS
I made a short script that allows you to export your words, clean them up in python, and import them back in. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EwM_jy8pazRZfF5Ri-cN4J_jeHiVO9bZB_qGC0-04bA/edit?usp=sharing
Works like a charm but sometimes too well. Ask it to change 'mom' to 'mum' and i'll also find it changing words like moment and momentum in mument and mumentum. None of the different settings it allows me to give to a word changes this. It either changes all or changes nothing.
While a nice idea, this well below the quality of most of the other extensions that do the same thing. It completely ruins text fields.
I use it to read light novels, because I can't remember the Asian names at all so this tool helps me to customize the names, so I can remember them. This is great tool, Thanks a lot.
Whenever I have this extension enabled, my typing becomes reversed. This makes the extension unusable for me.
Stopped working for me, stopped saving my settings and there is no apparent save button.
Was looking for the Word Replacer even after translated the page. This extension works. Greatful! However, the options page as well as the small icon is suck
I can finally read the news again! I've turned a certain politician's last name into an adjective that truly best describes that person, and his entire family!
What a great way to read the news! When you start reading about 'eating contests' instead of 'elections' or 'battles to the death' instead of 'debates' or 'dead beats' instead of 'socialists" things seem a lot better than they are.
I'm trying to get it to swap "Russia" with "Mexico" and "Russian" with "Mexican". When I have both of these enabled it keeps replacing "Russian" with "Mexicon". Is there some way to fix this?
It is literally the only one that works. Although improvements should be made to it, I feel that this tool is very useful if you are translating and using your own translation dictionaries. great tool supplement the features that google translate lacks.
Elegant and easy to use.
This extension causes Google Sheets and Twitter to break. It is not possible to @ mention on Twitter or use formulas in Google Sheets as long as this extension is enabled. Screencast of issue: http://ca.mag.cm/1k2i2F3f3p0T
This messes up google docs and there is no way to limit it to specific URLs.
It's really fun to mess around with words or even change every single letter to uppercase so everyone's shouting all the time, but I do have 1 problem with this extension. For some reason each time I reach a certain number of boxes and try to create a new one, it adds a box below the page navigation tab which means I can't access the new box. I can't add on new pages without finishing the current page first, but I can't finish the current page because the last few boxes are inaccessible. I have to try weird work-arounds like pressing the tab key until it reaches the box or clicking as close as I can get without clicking on the navigation tab, but neither of these are currently working for me.

COnfusing, but if you read the user manual you will see you need to apply the changes
I replaced "Recently viewed items" with "Stuff you can't afford"
How to fool your parents while showing them your grades 101, especially if browser inspecting doesn't work on them anymore ._.
Terrible UI design; highly unintuitive. Also, 'normal' replacements are not good, since they will operate on parts of words. trying to use regex /b<replacementhere>/b doesn't work, as for some reason the extension will not save the fact it is dealing with regex. Both implementation and design need work.
Fun for a short while but causes a bug in Twitter where typing mentions or hashtags is broken.
This extension has changed the way I surf the web. I need no other extensions. I currently have 404 and counting replacements that make my computer hilariously confabulating to those who use it besides me. Someone once suggested I use Firefox instead of Chrome, and gave some compelling arguments in favour of it, so I did some research and responded with "I can't use Firefox; there's no Word Replacer on it". Sure, it's not of the highest quality, but it's a simple extension that does what I need. It's the imagination of the user that really makes it shine. Also, I haven't experienced any of the bugs cited by other users, so I might just be lucky. Just make sure you back it up periodically. Also, let it be known that this will not typically affect composed emails and replies in GMail, but it does affect forwards. I really wish there were some kind of forum for sharing replacements. Here are a few of my favourites: "My" -> "Me" "Your" -> "Yer" "Gmail" -> "A Simple Basic Email Program" "College" -> "Coolidge" "Space" -> "SPAAAAAACE" "The Hell" -> "In Davy Jones's Locker" "User" -> "Victim" "United States" -> "Militaristic States" "America" -> "Militaryland" "Probability of" -> "The fraction of red balls in an urn from which the withdrawal of a single red ball is of the same uncertainty for you as that of the event of"
Works really well and is exactly what I wanted.
Unusable as is. Reverses typing direction in certain situations. (ie: when typing Twitter hashtags [rich text editor]). I figure it was a Chrome or Twitter UI update that broke functionality. WR II is definitely broke tho - and abandoned by the looks of it. Too bad.
I couldn't make a page.
I wrote so many words then just lost it! I can't believe I wasted time I could've used to work on a project :(
god bless this app. thank u so much.
Fabulous add-on! I've changed "Trump" into "Con Artist" and it really helps put things in perspective. Thanks!
So I just installed this and replaced all the horoscopes with Jibt and it works great. Exactly what I need to help my faith. JazakAllah :D
Finally I can see "application" instead of "app" which people plaster all over the place. ;-) Unfortunately, recently I had to disable this extension because it started crippling some text input fields, such as Twitter (@ and # autocomplete) and Google Drive Spreadsheets (formula field), moving the cursor to the beginning of the field at each key press. Fun concept, though!
I love the plugin, but it seems to be deleting my settings constantly. It makes it hard to use.
When I enable this extenstion, every page I go on becomes slow and unresponsive. It's only just started doing this and I've had it for months. Please try to make it better so Google Chrome doesn't become slow and unresponsive.
This was working great for a while, but recently it has started to mangle entries in Google Sheets so that I can't type in what I want. The cursor jumps from the end to the beginning of the cell no matter what I try to do.
Works just as I expected, thank you so much for this extension
meh
I once set the word "pen" to "penis" and forgot I had the extension. Nearly three months later I was shocked when someone asked if I could give them a penis. This thing has potential for comedy gold. Keep up the good work.
It is amazing how non-intuitive this add-on is. It takes minutes to understand how it works and then the help is so badly written you end up in circles. Complicated.
This and "Font Changer" is amazing!
Works really well. In particular, works perfectly on Twitch chat, a place where people have a disturbing tendency to use undesirable words.
how do you use it?
Doesn't work. Pass on it.
AWESOME!!!
Why fix something that's not broken? The new, updated version messed the UI up really badly. The word list keeps resetting itself automatically without user input, and every word needs to be confirmed manually. Looking for alternatives.
i changed "kys" to "I love you",as well as a few other words...
took me a bit but i not into coding but is incredible! (suggestion change "the" to nichols cage)
Everything is excellent, but the replace features in regex are lacking. For example, you cannot 1. use elseif statements; 2. add or subtract numbers; and 3. capitalize and uncapitalize backreferences. Also, the list always completely runs resulting in some unnecessary searches. Replacements should be separated into a list that searches until it matches and list that processes the whole list.
desperately needs an exceptions list. Will mess up your emails.
Simple and Easy to use. Love it!
I'm not sure if there are any serious uses for this, but it tickles my immaturity, and it does it well.
regex replacement is great. thanks.
Wow! Very simple and effective. THANK YOU!
Awesome extension!
Doesn't work at all.
This is great
Thanks to Word Replacer II this election between @realDonaldGiantDouche and @HillaryTurdSandwich just got a lot more fun!
My favorite extension ever
keyboard now shows up as leopard, good
simply worked for content in Gmail
