This extension causes the problem in the following reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/12eqt27/help_needed_with_missing_google_search_features/
Only working extension I have come across so far. Good: - Gives useful error messages. Bad: - A bit complex UI, but I don't mint it because it gives you plenty of options.
I had a bug on Netflix where when I went into full screen mode, my movie/show would be stretched out. It was annoying me so I did a search on reddit which brought me to here. This program told me what was wrong (it was a hardware acceleration issue and I had to select a different GPU processing engine or something) So though I didnt use the product for what it was mainly intended for, it did diagnose the problem and pretty much resolved it.
No longer resizes height, so instead of removing black bars, it just stretches the width.
I recently purchased a 21:9 Monitor from Kogan. I had never owned a wide screen before and I'm fairly IT illiterate so I was disappointed that the Movies I stream on Youtube did not fill the whole screen. After downloading the App I was surprised at how well it worked. I had to fiddle around a little bit in the extensions section of the Browser but it was soon up and running and worked so well I installed it on my other device. Thanks to the developer for putting the time into the App. Very happy with the outcome. PS...will be donating some Beer and Coffee money. $20 Aussie Dollars ought to do it. Cheers.
test some video on youtube with originally 4:3 but uploaded as 16:9, use 4:3 stretch (src) mode, working great when not fullscreen. i have to press f (toggle fullscreen) multiple times to make it work in fullscreen mode tho, quite inconsistency for now
For a while this extension was unmatched. Whether it was a recent update on Chrome's end or theirs, the app has become unbearable to work with. Constantly freezing, unable to select settings. Installed reinstalled, even tried using Edge and the same issue occurred. Uninstalling for now, but will check back later.
It just zooms in, so you lose content. I'd presume it would resize the video player, but I guess not. Why bother lose content? I'd rather black bars than missing out on content in the video.
Doesn't seem to do anything at all on Prime Video (UK) unfortunately.
doesn't work with a curved monitor
It used to be bad now it is amazing and I can't live without it thanks for the auto-detection it's so good your work is under appreciated thanks man!
it does the job
Unfortunately, this caused issues with viewing Reddit videos. Switch to the Zoom to Fill which doesn't seem to have an issue.
Doesnt work
How I wish Ultrawidify was the first Chrome Extension to appear when I searched for ways to get rid of black bars when watching Netflix. This extension is like the easy plug-and-play setup. I only needed to add it and boom! It does its magic perfectly! Thanks to the brains behind this very helpful program.
doesn't work
Works like a charm! 21:9
The auto detection is beautiful sometimes wrongfully detects but very rarely trust I can't live without this it works so well with movies and such has made my viewing experience a dream. One thing I think people forget this is a free extension. Thank you Tamius Han you're an angel
works so far .....just what i needed to get rid of em horrible black borders , shouldve used this ALOT earlier, keep it up @dev
works
I've used around 10 different widescreen extensions and this one is by far the best. No bugs and it constantly reevaluates videos to stretch them appropriately without any user input. Greatly appreciated.
How I didn't think to look for something like this sooner, I don't know. But either way, this works like a charm for me, and better than a couple others I tried. Couldn't ask for more.
No longer works with HBO Max. Screen gets shifted to the right.
Doesnt work on Disney plus or Netflix
Until I find a better app, I don't think I'd ever have it any other way other than ultrawidify. At first I thought this app wasn't working because the configuration seemed a bit complicated, however after I got it to work, watching videos on my 34" monitor has been a D R E A M. My gripe with several other display configuration app catered to those blessed with the ultrawide curse that is black bars, most apps stretch it out in a certain way that erases some of the video in the corners as it's just zoomed in. But hybrid mode has been a God send as it's not overly and obviously stretched out, I truly feel immersed watching youtube and streaming site videos. I have not tried Twitch or Facebook videos yet, so I cannot vouch for those. However thank you so much for such an amazing application, you saved my eyeballs!
it does nothing at all
its awesome.. Thank you God bless
It DOESN'T work, at all. Tried on latest chrome on Disney, Youtube and netflix and amazon prime. It's just a fancy extension with a lot of fancy options that do absolutely nothing
Does what it says was searching for one so bad this works like a charm even in fullscreen for 21:9 Thanx Mate ?
Didnt work well on the LG 49wl95c-we 49 inch screen monitor
This normally works amazing, as it still does for most sites, but disney plus it seems to just sit in the center of my screen with black bars on every side of it. But last week it worked great with disney plus. Very confused.
Recently videos have been stretched instead of zoomed to fit ultrawide, but this fixed everything for me: "If your video gets stretched instead of cropped, this is because of a recent Nvidia and Chrome bug, as a workaround you should disable hardware acceleration on Chrome advanced settings to avoid this temporal bug."
The best ultrawide fix extension on here! Supports all video playing/streaming websites that I use, and you can prevent video cropping with the proper settings.
Not 100% flawless but finally found the right settings to crop the black bars on the sides of Justice League on HBO max when watching a 4:3 movie which was not cropped at its source. Thank you!
it took me a while to find this, just the W key and the magic happens, great extension
I just wanted to note the odd use I have for this extension, I don't use an ultrawide monitor, in fact quite the opposite. I use a Raspberry Pi to run current streaming content over composite video to an old CRT television I have. Not every service will display their old content in actual 4:3 often adding bars to the sides and forcing viewers to watch in 16:9, thanks to Ultrawidify I can watch the more difficult services like Disney+, HBO Max, and WWE Network in 4:3 for native 4:3 broadcasts. This program has sated my desire for nostalgia mixed with modern technology, without Ultrawidify I would have been much more limited. Massive thanks to the developer.
This is the only reliable tool for removing burnt in black bars when viewing "fake" 21:9 content on a 21:9 screen on streaming services.
Yay! A fix to watch Amazon Videos fullscreen on my ultrawide monitor.
Finally! I can't tell you how many videos I've watched on YouTube where the video isn't "full screen" -- it's a 16:9 aspect ratio, but it surrounds my monitor in a black box because it was uploaded as a letterboxed 4:3. This extension is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
It is currently broken, setting it to 21:9 while in fullscreen only stretches the YouTube video horizontally. This is also happening with other extensions, "Zoom to Fill - Ultrawide Video" and "Aspect Ratio 21:9". Maybe YouTube is the culprit here? edit 26/1/21: Was able to determine something was wrong with my machine. Disabled hardware acceleration in chrome. Works perfectly but I am dropping frames on YouTube. Another problem to solve!
This just doesn't even work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times, but it doesn't do anything.
Extremely horrible, unfriendly user interface, will break your video playback and cause audio issues. Hope improvements will make this even remotely usable because this does address a big problem with automatic aspect ratio adjustment.
Amazing and exactly what i needed. Scales Netflix, Stan, Disney+ etc.. You lose next to nothing scaling 16:9 to 21:9 but the experience of ultrawide is absolutely the future. Can't go back, won't go back. Well done dev!
I'm only giving this a 4 star review because it essentially is a monopoly on this feature. However, keep in mind that it's incredibly janky. Disney+ works, but it screws up the UI. Netflix works, but I have to screw around with the ratios using the keyboard shortcuts every time I open something, even if it's something that isn't 21:9 and I want to keep in its original aspect ratio. Netflix also forces non-21:9 content to the left of the screen. I can't even disable it on Netflix for whatever reason. Speaking of keyboard shortcuts, I wanted to set a shortcut for centering videos for this issue (because why would I want it aligned with the left or right?), but I wasn't able to get the options menu to allow me to save it. I filled in the box, clicked save, but it just didn't take despite trying several times. Anyway, Amazon just flat out doesn't work. Crunchyroll works, but if it's not 21:9, it's forced to the right side of the screen which is a nuisance. The only website that works without a hitch is YouTube. So, if you just watch nothing but YouTube, purchase/rent movies on YouTube, then you're good (although at this current time, YouTube is undergoing maintenance which leaves all movies and shows forced down to 480p). However, if you're wanting to use it for other websites, just know what you're getting into. If there was any other option for this outside of using the windows Magnifier tool which causes pixel artifacting and is always a pain to manage and is rarely ever a perfect fit to the screen, then I would give this a 2 or a 3 star rating. But this is all that's available. So if you want to watch the Mandalorian in 21:9 as it was what prompted me to download this, this plugin is your best bet. It really emphasizes the issue with choosing to get an ultrawide, and it makes me wish that websites like Amazon and Disney+ would be considerate of people like us who are essentially cast out, with all the cinemascope films being rendered in 16:9 with black bars which just makes the screen size about 1/4 of the total size. It's not like rendering content in its native aspect ratio would take up extra space or cause issues. In fact, for awhile, content on YouTube and Amazon *were* in their native aspect ratios. Then some time in the middle of this year, they decided to re-render everything in 16:9, with exception to Netflix. Netflix is the only site that seems to get it.
Since the latest update, embedded videos on Facebook and Reddit will occasionally be off-set from the window they are in, only showing a small corner of the video. Also, theater mode videos like Twitch and Facebook Gaming are not scaling properly for the window they are in - Twitch theater mode will put the video behind chat. I was looking for a solution to these issues when I found this extension. Turns out, I already had it (I had forgotten), and it was what was causing the problem ?♂️.
Doesnt work! Every 21:9 extension doesnt work. IDK if its a windows 10 update that broke all the extensions for 21:9 or.... Ive tried everything to get this to work and nothing. Also how to use use key short cuts it just shows a letter. EXAPLE (A) for automatic or (R) for reset , etc but its does nothing. Do I hit Shift + A or something along those lines??
Had no idea this existed! And I am Ultra grateful that it exists!
i cant make the picture stretched out?
this extension is amazing
It is a perfect one for watching YouTube on Ultrawide display (3440*1440). No horizontal black bars anymore!
This caused any audio interface connected to my computer to have all my audio stutter and glitch out (not just in Chrome but in MusicBee, Cubase, etc). I spent 5 hours trying to figure out why none of my interfaces were working properly all of a sudden only to FINALLY remember I had installed this recently. Uninstalled and all my audio worked perfectly again. That being said, it didn't affect my monitor's audio at all, so if you aren't using an external audio interface you'll probably(?) be fine.
Works automatically and flawlessly for 21:9 content like movies on YouTube, etc.
So-far-so-good. I'm actually using this to expand 16:9 content to fit on my 16:10 monitor. Works at advertised, hotkeys are nice too.
Works great for ultra wide monitors!
its working on my netflix account. thanks man. before 5 days i was finding solution.
Packed full of features and customisation, way more than I expect.
If You Get Lost On This App , Just Uninstall Then Re Add , The Reset Doesn't Work On My Computer , Other Than That , Good App ;-)
Works with Disney+ so long as going full screen with f11 key
Ultrawidify Team, thank you so much for this awesome extension. I recommend everyone use Basic Stretch as to not have parts of the image cut off
love it on my new 34" 21:9 monitor
Works good for Netflix, but really screws with YouTube. But, after figuring out how to whitelist YouTube, it works good, so far.
Confusing UI, causes videos to jitter between zooms, does not recognize when a smaller video is played with a title/caption (which the zoom proceeded to put out of view and make unreadable) Zoom seems to be automatic no matter what settings are chosen. Useless in almost every regard.
Works well with Netflix!
After using this I can't go back because the auto detection is so convenient. Auto detection works most of the time. Some videos get wrongfully cropped because its dark on the top and bottom of the video.
You are a true hero <3
Works great
Does exactly what I needed for widescreen youtube. Thanks!
This extension work great before version 3.0.1, please fix it, a lot of bugs: - Automatic aspect ratio detection is not working. - Manual aspect ratio leave big white bar on top of the video when playback toolbar is hidden (this issue occur when crop video aspect fit width of the monitor, this happen from time to time). Please fix it or roll bar to version 2. - Settings for this site tab make a lot of complicated options like: "Enable this extension" and "Options for this site". As you mention, this extension only work on youtube.com, even embedded video is also not working, why show many options. Update 1: Version 3.1: - Improved Automatic aspect ratio detection work better now (when we toggle between Auto-detect and other aspect, Auto-detect sometimes not affect immediately, until we turn off fullscreen and back to fullscreen). - Manual aspect ratio is also better, but I will test video with more video if big white bar no longer appear when YouTube toolbar is hidden. - Settings popup menu is also better with more options enable that site is whitelisted.
it worked love it
Worked until latest version - will update review once fixed as it was one of my favorite program for watching movies on ultrawide screens.
This used to be a great extension that worked on every video featured on any website. The latest version never works on any video, it's completely broken. Please fix this real soon.
Doesn't work with Flash, which every big streaming company apparently still uses.
works great for me...good job..
didn't work for some reason
Doesn't seem to work.
It was very good untill the last update
It used to be much better, but now it doesn't work at all pretty much. Also, when I go fullscreen on a video and then exit out of full screen in theatre mode, the video will be cut off in a weird way. I hope that you will revert it back to how it used to be.
Why did you change it?? Don't fix it if it ain't broken, and that means don't ruin the onscreen buttons by replacing them with annoying keyboard shortcuts that are in conflict with other shortcuts. Overall just ruined now, very disappointing.
Before the last update it was working perfectly but now it doesn't work!!! please bring back the previous update!
I LOVED this extension for my 21:9 monitor, and it was incredibly useful. After the recent update, the UI is gone, and I want get any of the shortcuts to work. The extension is completely useless after this update. Please, please at least give us the old version to use because, even if it wasn't perfect, at least it worked.
Previously it worked magically, in which you had the option to zoom in and have ANY video on YouTube fit your screen. Whether it be automatically or manually, via buttons on the bottom of the YouTube player. Now, with the latest update, you have to rely on shortcuts to make them work, none of which appear to be set by default. What was the reasoning behind removing the buttons and making everything 'automated and unreliable?' This was once a great addon that gave example to just how the PC was ultimately a superior multimedia platform to others. Now it's just a shell of its former self until the on-screen button functionality is restored.
five stars are helpful my name is bobby underwood im an brickmasonry lives in dothan alabama deep down south were from the getto
Unfortunately Ultrawidify has the nasty habit of cropping a good portion off the top of the image when attempting to convert a video to 21:9 with a monitor that has a resolution of 2560x1080. Also, trying to switch between options would cause the video to black-out necessitating the need to close the video and restart it (Netflix). Not totally without merit but as is it's too buggy to recommend.
Does not work on my 21:9 screen and youtube.
