Thank you for freeing me. Would be handy if you there was a way of removing the thousands upon thousands chrome has added already... seriously google.. huge security issue here.
This extension has been so useful to me. Efficient management of my search engines boosts my productivity tenfold.
Excellent! I personally use the search engine keyword feature a lot (e.g. g for Google, d for dictionary.com, wk for Wikipedia, wa for WolframAlpha, so for StackOverflow, etc.) and I hate sites randomly polluting my search list with entries I don't want. Would highly recommend. Edit: as of 2022 Chrome comes with a similar feature built-in - search engines are added but are "inactive" until explicitly activated by the user in Chrome settings. I think it's an arguably better implementation, which is why I will no longer be using this extension. Still, thank you Mr./Mrs. developer for your extension's great service!
Hasn't worked for a while :(
Works as advertised – honestly I'm surprised that most people don't seem bothered by having their search lists constantly bombarded, but to each their own I suppose. Anyway, yes this extension works. Thanks author!
I have yet to see this do anything. removing extension.
works great! thanks for building this.
What a time saver, of course Google would require an extension to disable a bad feature...
Seems to work as advertised. I have visited and searched on CNN, Reddit, and Yahoo and no search engines have been added to Chrome. Thank you. Will update if anything changes.
It doesn't work. My chrome browser keeps getting changed into a yahoo search regardless of having this add on :(
Chrome's default behavior is unacceptable, this is a life saver. Honestly. If I wanted to add search engines, I would add them manually. Thank you for making this extension.
Great! Now I don't have to deal with typing "s" and having a million search engines coming up.
it works!
Get's rid of the junk search engines!
WARNING! THE EXTENSION HAS MALWARE!! The extension has recently added malware that makes a browser redirect when you search google, and redirects you to an identical-looking page, that has another domain name... you can see this yourself, by doing the following: 1) add extension 2) use ctrl+k to search google in the omnibar, enter search term and hit "enter" 3) the google search loads. Go to a another tab. now go back to the tab with the google search. now the page has reloaded with another domain name than google.
I've had this thing installed for years and just forgot about it. I just checked and not a single extra search engine clogging up the list of ones I've curated and custom configured!
This is the most amazing add on I have ever used.Thank you so much guys.It has blocked every search engine I usually get a big list under my default search engine and this has blocked every one.I don't usually do reviews on extensions but this has to have one.I am on windows 7 and in the UK if that helps anyone out. Big thanks again as I usually spend on and off the whole day keeping search engines from taking over.
It works! That's all I can ask for.
Thank you! I hate the way these search engines are added without my permission. now I don't have to.
I liked it. Past-tense. Stopped working on updated versions of chrome. I miss it.
It does nothing. I thought the developer comments and the recent update meant otherwise, but yeah, still nothing.
Great idea, but it's not working for me in the latest version of Chrome. Search engines are still being added.
Thank you for making this extension, loved it
This is the single most useful app I have in my Chrome browser... Gone are those massive lists of "search engine" options that are automatically installed every time you visit a new webpage... How they used to annoy me... Thank you so much for a clean & easy to use "install & forget" app that just works :)
Search engines list is now clean! Thank You!
Works great so far.
The new version works with a 100% success rate for me. Thanks, brilliant work :)
The new version has been working good so far.
This doesn't work. Search engines are still added.
While some custom searches are certainly being blocked, a list is still accumulating in Chrome's Settings. I posted a suggestion that the developer provide some kind of blacklist for sites we find are still being added to Settings. (Of course, I don't know if such an option is even possible.) If something like that happens or the developer finds another way to block the custom searches that are still getting through, I will joyfully amend my rating. Update: I now have over sixty useless and unwanted "search engines" in my Chrome settings, so, obviously, this extension does next to nothing. (I've lowered my rating from "okay" to "disliked".)
Alas, this extension stopped working. Not sure as of which version of Google Chrome when it became ineffective. I was doing some maintenance, checked the search engines list, and there were many entries for sites that I had previously visited and used their search that were now listed in Google Chrome's search engine list -- all the while using this extension. I edited the search engine list to remove the unwanted entries (those that covertly add themselves to Google Chrome), revisited the sites, did a search there, and this extension did absolutely NOTHING to block those sites from adding their search URLs to the search engines list in Google Chrome. Example sites that add to the custom search engines list are: aol.com, yahoo.com, bing.com, ask.com, fleetfarm.com, gasbuddy.com, menards.com, 800notes.com, amazon.zom, bestbuy.com, ebay, and newegg.com. It is easy to spot the covert search engine additions when looking at the search engine list: they don't have a keyword assigned. Uninstalling and reinstalling this extension does not get it working. It might even show a number overlay on its toolbar icon as though it blocked the custom search addition but, nope, it didn't block anything. It has not been updated in over a year and a half. It's become useless and the author has abandoned this extension so it will not get updated to start working again (assuming however this extension worked before is still a viable method in the latest versions of Google Chrome).
Doesn't seem to work anymore
It blocks a number of sites but still a fair number of sites add their search engines.
Not at all helpful. Doesn't do anything.
not working
Unfortunately, this extension doesn't work at all. I can't believe Google doesn't give users the option to disable this unwanted behavior!
doesn't work as expected in Chrome 61.0.3163.100.
Doesn't work anymore :(
doesn't work
Does not work as advertised. chrome://settings/searchEngines Remove all but google. Install this extension. Go to cnn.com and do a search. Go to: chrome://settings/searchEngines CNN is in the list!
Works !
Doesn't work with Chrome 54
I can't believe I need an extension for this. 4 stars because it still misses a lot of sites, in which many are based on WordPress.
I have to visit hundreds of sites for work, and the "Other search engines" would get cluttered to the point of being unusable.Thank you! The only suggestion I would make is that this extension is hard to find because the Chrome setting is named "Other search engines". I never thought to search "custom search engines" instead. Edit: recently stopped working, unfortunately.
Worked initially, not it stopped. Test: cnn.com The one reason for me to stick on with this stupid browser is also gone...sigh back to FF soon. Love this 'do no evil' attitude of theirs.
Utterly excellent, my compliments.
It works — but what for?
