From March 27th, 2018 to March 31st, 2023, 41% user give 5-star rating, 11% user give 4-star rating, 9% user give 3-star rating, 9% user give 2-star rating, 30% user give 1-star rating. for Bot Sentinel chrome extension.
I love the idea and it does help to identify bots. However, it is not accurate. For example, I've been on twitter since 2014, I rarely disparage individuals, post "fake news" or even curse. But yet, I'm at a 41% rating? The only thing I can figure is that people reporting you for anything can downgrade your rating.
Not very accurate. If an account drops a lot of F bombs, they get labelled disruptive. Meanwhile, malicious bot accounts are labelled as normal. As always, "AI" is a failure.
Be aware of this extension its is not accurate.
It would be great if it had the option to Only point out bots/fake accounts. Not a fan of the percentage rating as it seems arbitrary, considering other algorithms identified bot behaviour and this app gave them a 0%.
Good idea. terrible implementation.
The work done by this app deserves a Nobel Prize. I have removed, with the help of this app, dozens of troll accounts through Twitter's report function. Bot Sentinel is a marvel at meting out who is a real person with real opinions, and who is a provocateur with an agenda, who doesnt debate in good faith. A simple download that is small and doesn't slow the computer in any way shape or form. Them you will begin seeing the ratings on people on Twitter. You can also click "Check User" on anyone at any time to get their updated rating. It is also GREAT for finding out if you yourself are not debating in good faith, as changing how you deal with your social media will change your rating. I found myself being too agro during the calamity that was Jan 6th, and my rating started trending to the toxic. I made changes and learned a new way to approach sensitive topics that I have strong opinions about. This is more than an app to find bad guys, at it's core Christopher Bouzy has given us an app to teach us how to treat each other.
I don't know how to search for people and see all the fake accounts they have used. A friend looked up a Romance Scammer for me and it showed he has had 8 different accounts, several still active. The main theme is pretending to be an Oslo, Norway green house owner. He used "Thor Erikson" in different versions and is now he is using @Georgeofnature and @naturelsker8 and uses photos stolen from Spanish actor Javier Delgado Tocho for his profile. Police think it's based in Nigeria.
When I first installed it seem pretty good but after a couple of years and no transparency into why it was rating accounts it has lost it's usefulness.
The worst way to detect bots, period. If you have a 0% then it's safe to say that you're either a bot, a corp, or someone who doesn't want to get involved with anything, the higher rating only means they sometimes talk about political things (on any side).
The author made a change to a stable algorithm that has turned people that were considered "normal" for years to suddenly DANGEROUS. The app automatically blocks these users so app users do not even know it. I have checked more than 100 profiles where this has happened and all of them lean differently politically. This multiyear trust building means that one person hit a switch to automatically block hundreds of thousands of people. I did not accuse him of censorship but expressed concern in a review that the AI is broken and his response was to attack me on twitter and get others to do the same. No one should have this kind of power but certainly not those that attack their own customers. A simple ratio check of those that went from < 10% to > 80% should show that either the new or old AI was broke. After his response and vetting 100 accounts, I now think his goal is to censor those that don't agree with him and I have a 4% score. The AI isn't picking on me but automatic censorship is dangerous and the AI is broken.
I love this app. It helps with not getting dragged down rabbit holes on twitter by those posting just to be disruptive. If the person posting the tweet has a high Bot Sentinel it does not necessarily mean they are not genuine, but you should definitely take their views with a pinch of salt and investigate further before accepting any information in the tweet as being an honest and true opinion.
Deceptive product. It mainly targets human left-wing activists, not bots.
Software appeared to be useful, in it's advertised manner of identifying bots and 'troll accounts', but while the software claims to be 'nonpartisan', it appears to be getting an inappropriate amount of inherent bias in the data set from the developer, causing questionable readings. When I and others tried to ask the developer for more information to see if it was a bug, we were openly laughed at and some of us then blocked, preventing interaction with the developer.
I would not trust this app, many legitimate users are now suddenly being falsely flagged as problematic & disruptive bots.
Doesn't work and is maintained by a politically motivated loser.
Seems like this extension generates random numbers for people but alright
Wish you could make it hide for anyone with a normal rating.
This tool is NOT about detecting bots.
It strikethroughs some tweets that it thinks is misinformation and you can't turn it off?
Works great on Twitter.com but shows 'unknown' tags under tweetdeck.twitter.com
I looked at some obviously bot accounts (albeit inoffensive) yet these were classified as normal. So I don't think this app is about identifying bots but rather right-wing trolls.
Author is a scumbag.
This app developer is a well-known crypto scammer. he might use this plugin for further nefarious purposes. DELETE THIS EXTENSION!!!
Great plugin. Every account I can find that it rates high is someone my world would be better without. I honestly haven't figured out the blocker yet but being able to see webs of people automatically tweeting simultaneously is eye-opening at the very least. Great tool against toxic group-think so common as one of the ill effect of the increasingly globalized world.
This thing is a joke.
This is not a political extension. I repeat THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL extension. I've found problematic accoutns on various policital parties and groups. Both " liberal " and " conservative " groups are tagged as problematic if they act irratic in some fashion and other various factors. The algo works ! And I use it to report users all of the time.
Useful, but it causes my Twitter feed to jump up and down, appears to be refreshing the scores and makes some posts appear and disappear.
The "unknown" and "normal" assessments on every single tweet are too distracting. I don't care about "normal" ratings on messages. That's just clutter.
Settngs (Red Text and Ratings) are not preserved across browser restarts. (Browser is Chromium for Linux.)
I'm so glad I discovered Bot Sentinel for Chrome. I can't imagine NOT having it ever, especially during these uncertain times. While I still do my own research, I love the new misinformation feature it has added. It's free so donate if you can!
The latest version shows individual user scores which have been ran before. It makes twitter much more usable. The team did a wonderful job.
I see the extensions finding bots all over the fence, is it perfect no. However it is great to check first before bothering to take a post as worth reading.
I like this extension. It makes it quick and easy to see the usage patterns of other users. The latest version has changed the verbiage to better reflect what it's measuring. (normal usage patterns through disruptive...etc.) It makes some minor, innocuous, changes to both twitter and tweetdeck. I've been using it for a while now to block and/or report accounts behaving in bad faith. (e.g. racism, bot/botlike behavior, election manipulation...etc.)
This app is an effective tool for cleansing your Twitter experience from malevolent troll bots. I've donated several times and will continue to do so.
Awesome tool!!!!
I love this extension. In an age where disinformation is rampant Bot Sentinel is the best early warning system I've seen for Twitter. Easy to use and unobtrusive.
It works well to quickly identify probable bots on twitter!
The new version's tags showing users' scores are a bit intrusive, but overall, this is an extremely helpful tool!
Awesome!
I find this quite useful. I am still trying to figure out all it can do since their upgrades. I have just put in a support ticket to hopefully get an answer to one of my questions.
Haven't had it for long, and so far I haven't seen an account that was more than 40% bot, but it seems to highlight the right accounts
Really happy an extension like this exists.
Essential tool for Twitter. Amazing how many folks are part of an army of propaganda trolls and bot trolls. Highly recommended.
Outstanding extension. I'm not sure why it's not integrated into Twitter itself. It is a MUST to stop the spread of disinformation and save yourself a LOT of headache from arguing with @Matt88273289198273 from Moscow.
Love the idea, but.... Known bots (like comedic bots) detected as human and suspicious one month old accounts, following 7K peoples and made more than 3K tweets in less than 20 days is also detected as a human. Something looks off.
Comical extension. No wonder why a lot of people just randomly add others and mark them as "trolls". Highly inacurate, biased and very political. Absolutely no value in it.
This is a must have extensions. Having been on Twitter for 13 years it is by far what makes being on Twitter in 2020 sane and rational. Every day politicians around the world hire bot farms and Bot Sentinel's extension makes Twitter bearable by isolating sources of conspiracies and flat out lies propagated from low quality sources.
There are far too many false positives for this extension to be of any use.
This thing drives trolls crazy. I love it. I donated. Help this important work with a donation.
Bias all the way. Socialist Democrats how tweet and retweet all he time only have 1% to 3% rating. In its notes it states that most of its trolls are conservatives "because more liberals look up conservative accounts", so I tested it on a few accounts. I only hear about it because a liberal troll posted to a photo of my rating to my account on Twitter. Someone I hadn't interacted with, and had no prior conversations with. Just randomly posted. That's what a troll is.
Now if only we could troll check for reviewers. I thought for a minute that these reviews might be of substance, but I'm questioning whether or not they're just trying to bring down the score so people distrust Bot Sentinel and stop using it. Let's hope this and other apps that review/verify information on the web. The app is seemless with Twitter and makes troll accounts obvious. The quick button to review accounts is great as well.
Very handy. It would be great if there were a "copy to clipboard" option, so we could paste the report directly to Twitter. Currently have to screen capture the area of the report, which gives the option to copy to the clipboard - but also save a copy which then has to be cleaned up.
Basically this is an echo chamber service, they even admit it in their FAQ's. Their "Algorithm" is basically "Well if we make sure lots of people from one end of the spectrum uses it against people on the other end of the spectrum....success!". So it turns out to be highly biased by design.
Run this on your own account. At first I was like, "I'm a moderate bot!?! Meh, no way!". Then I thought about it and I'm only on twitter for Andrew Yang, I retweet blindly often, and I follow other yang gang reflexively. Yup. Moderate bot like activity for sure. Need to do more thoughtful retweets, add to the discussion and favor quality over quantity. This works, but the truth might hurt for some.
Horid liberal bias. Every conservative on twitter is rated Untrustworthy or Troll.
Very useful. One quibble: the red text for "untrustworthy" tweets is hard to read in "dark" mode. Could we find another way to highlight it? Maybe a red outline, or red underline, or something?
This is very clearly biased Far left tool to justify blocking normal people. There is no explained standard by which they judge someone by. I will not Trust it until they provide better information about their standards.
Helpful. Will help you find trollbots. Not everyone of them is a bot thought. Non bots are what is called "Shills" report them on your twitter as fake all the same. If you feel its biased its because most of the shills and bots are working for one side. A few aren't. That's all.
The latest update added in-Twitter highlighting of Trollbots, as well as one-click scoring of suspicious handles. The "untrustworthy" label is subjective (though not necessarily wrong). The Trollbot label seems fairly spot on.
Installed it, got the little "Click this icon to use this extension" icon in the toolbar. Click the icon, enter a name. "An error occurred. Please try again later." Tried a bunch of different accounts, same error. Extension is garbage.
Finally. A way to know who is a Russian bot in this dumpster fire. Only downside; the extension only works for the old legacy style pages.
Excellent.
Biased and bad
Lots of false positives that other trackers don't report. When investigated, it's clear that many of these false positives are actual people.
This is a helpful tool to quickly identify and tag bad accounts on Twitter, whether they be bots, spammers, spreaders of malicious propaganda, fake accounts, or just plain old pests. Please note that many (but not all) of these accounts appear to be conservative in nature, and that could be considered bias on behalf of the creators. I, however, see it as a reflection of the personality of the Twitter user: it shows how people/organization treat their social media, and how they abuse it. Abuse takes form in the way people act, and people who regularly act badly will behave in patterns. These patterns—in the form of key words and hashtags—are what Bot Sentinel recognizes and rates. Break these predictable patterns, and the Sentinel will reduce your rating. Instead of spamming #MAGA hashtags or treating other accounts like a punching bag, try talking about your life, or sharing your feelings, or simply writing normal sentences. Bot Sentinel will recognize that you are a human being, and your "trollbot" rating will drop. It's not that complicated. I've dropped my rating by one star because this extension has a few lingering bugs and needs an update for "New Twitter" (2019) redesign, whereupon it does not function. Other than that, it's a great addition to Twitter that lets you know who to immediately block and not waste your time interacting with them.
I would have rated it 5 out of 5 before the latest update (2019 Feb 28). This update now requires permission to read browser history without explanation — fail. This update makes Twitter lag like hell due to scripting bugs — fail.
Not intrusive at all. Very useful. Wish there was some documentation--it took me about 30m to figure out how to use it. Accuracy is fair given how these machine learning algorithms work.
Just downloaded it, decided to do a check on myself. Says I'm 69% chance of being a bot. That's certainly the farthest thing from the truth. The heuristics are horrible. Waste of time.
very handy extension
It is marking a lot of accounts that other bot tracking sites are coming back as having very low percentages which is making me suspicious about Bot Sentinel and its heuristics.
Fantastic extension!
This is my favorite twitter plugin. I literally use it ALL THE TIME to report trolls and bots. It's making twitter safe for all of us.
This is a great extension I have identified a lot of bot/troll accounts and a lot of them have been suspended.
Can't really rate the accuracy but it seems very helpful to identify bots and fake news.
