Garbage.

Never worked. Kept getting the "Error: An error has occurred.Dismiss". No troubleshooting help available.

I hope it will get better - but at this point, the voice dictation mistakes so many words that it doesn't save me any time. And it really can't do punctuation at all. The one in Microsoft products is much more useful.

I find it helpful, but I do have to come back and make some corrections by typing them in. I wish it would allow me to dictate more punctuation than it now does; for example colon and semicolon. Also it often does not begin a new sentence (after a period) with a capitalized first letter of word. It seems to me that that could be easily fixed! So all in all: useful but needlessly deficient.

I haven't been using it very long and it seems okay picking up words but unfortunately it doesn't do punctuation.

Utter joke, completely useless.

Great app, lifesaver when you have got your arm in a sling. only 4 stars as it struggles with punctuation.

Useless. It doesn't seem to be able to complete a single sentence clearly spoken in standard British English without mishearing several words. Useless. Constantly having to correct the mistakes would take longer than typing.

From what everyone says, this should be great. For me, though, it doesn't work in my Gmail. Any idea why?

Good from a function perspective. However, other tools from the email line, such a the shortcut for signature, disappear without changing settings. Should not happen.

UPDATE This now types gibberish, random nonsense non-words> "The boy ran to the library", repeated 3 times became, "boyuk viber kakoy n viber qaboy ayan tvo viber" I have the extension installed but will disable it permanently after I do this review. I dictated this review with the accessibility voice-to-text feature of Chrome OS, (which has its own problems). I've tried this extension 3 times on my Chromebook. This extension is unsupported and has not been updated since 2019, so not a COVID consequence.

Not a very effective dictation program. Very poor compared to Dragon Naturally. Constantly showing error messages. Often simply no response to voice dictation. Lots of bugs. Needs continued development.

Hello, This tool is a great idea! I am able to get the microphone icon on my email but it wont dictate what I say when I click it. Can you fix this?

This is helping me, but it will not pick up when I ask for a comma - it just keeps writing karma, I have tried changing my accent! but still won't work.... Also it is not capitalizing the first word of new sentences.

Can you please update this app? I have severe RSI and tendonitis on both wrists and this app would be incredibly helpful if it was more accurate. It hasn't been updated since September 2019!

I spoke soft, loud, fast and slow and it was perfect. it puts Siri to shame. poke of google docs but it has its own "voice typing" feature. idk. works for me!

I've just installed it. The reason why it's only three stars is: 1. it doesn't pick up my New Zealand accent very well for some vowels (or consonants) even though it's set to "NZ English" so there needs to be some more voice training for it for at least that accent. 2. there is no official list anywhere (not on the Chrome store, nor in the app's "Options" which is greyed-out and seems not to exist, nor on the apps official website: https://www.dictation.tools/) and it seems that, as others have said, the voice command are rather limited (it can use most of the Googe docs "Add punctuation" commands at https://support.google.com/docs/answer/4492226?hl=en plus parenthesis, but not the other voice commands at the link). But it would still be great to have a list in its entry in the Chrome store of the voice commands this app does even if they are limited. That would help a lot in using it and would change my rating to 4 stars for me.

Worse than useless because of the time wasted making corrections. If googledocs can do it reasonably competently (apart from capitalization, semi-functional voice commands, etc), why not gmail? Abysmal advert for google technology.

I guess despite this being advertised as a great dictation app for gmail talk and text, it is not showing up as an option beside the "send" button as advertised. Might be a Google issue but really folks? Now I have to get it off my computer. So frustrating

Excellent app - works better than expected! Since I started to use this app about 10 days ago, it's changed the way I do email. I am now dictating most emails, which is something I have wanted for over 20 years. The accuracy is fantastic. The only request I have is to have the text display with my formatting preferences. It's really no big deal but it would remove a step I must do for every email I send. So grateful, Greg. Thank you!

It isn't working for me at all. Every time I click the mic button, it doesn't record my voice to text and it just says 'error' and then you can click dismiss. Can you advise?

Great at dictation. However, when installed, I can't print any of my emails. Please fix and I'll change my review.

Super helpful, but please enable users to hide the language selector dropdown button. It's too wide, and pushes the trash button out of view, so I can no longer delete email drafts. I use several Gmail plugins that add buttons to the toolbar at the bottom of an email draft. Thank you.

i love the idea but when i downloaded the icon never appeared on my gmail for me to use???

this is unbelievably useful and easy to use, and on par with 300 euro software from a decade ago. My only wish is for it to work outside of Gmail, too!

Okay, since I cannot get it to work I suppose I cannot actually hate it. Win 10. Used to work really well, but after a hiatus of a few months, I re-installed it again, on my GMail program where I really need it, and I cannot get a word out of it. Microphone is ICE Snowball Blue. Help!

Tried this as a last resort because I could not find the extension that I had been using, which disappeared from my Chromebook, and which worked very well. Not updated since 2016 is a disappointment, because it works somewhat, however with the glitches reported by others. October 2019 Tried it again. The icon changes colour when I switch between Gmail and other tabs, but no response. Checked permissions and that the microphone is working. Everything looks okay, but nothing happens, as for another user who posted in Support. Chromebook.

I just added this extension and tried to use it in gmail. There's no microphone icon. Next to the usual blue Send box, is another blue box (w/ no text), and another blue Send box next to that. When I put my cursor over the middle blue box, thinking maybe that's the microphone, the buttons all started shaking, for lack of a better word. So I tried clicking on the middle blue button and got an error message that I need to add a receipient. Not sure why I'm not seeing the microphone. Any ideas? I've tried closing Chrome and reopening it, still with no luck. Thanks for your help!

Recognition quality, at least with my mic, ist top notch. But it doesn't insert the text at the cursor but at the bottom of the email. This is especially annoying as this means, it inserts the text below the signature.

Please note the date of this Review...6/20/19. I stumbled upon this app upon buying a new Dell Laptop in early June....and it made me crazy enough that I couldn't find this to add to my desktops that I and Google Gmail have had somewhat contentious series of conversations about why I could not find it for my Desk tops! (It is to be noted that I am nobody and probably less than nobody...but my contention that I would actually pay for this if I could get it for my other computers maybe caught their attention....lol) Get yourself a good mic...I bought thisFIFINE USB Microphone, Plug &Play Home Studio USB Condenser Microphone for Skype, Recordings for YouTube, Google Voice Search, Games(Windows/Mac)-K668 ) I write for a living, (and talk), so maybe my enunciation is particularly good....but I have struggled with voice dictation programs for some 10 plus years now....and this works for me. Amazing, a life changer. Sure you have to edit afterwards, and closely, and you then have to cut-n-paste onto letterhead a three page letter or memo or billing or whatever....but for me....this extension has been shockingly good.

It was functioning well and now for some reason it starts typing the message at the very bottom of the email chain, under the signature so I have to cut and paste it at the top where it is visible. Please fix it, otherwise it is fantastic tool!

Runs incredibly slow and crashes on my Chromebook. I wonder what's going on? Could it be the latest Chrome OS update? Is my Chromebook getting too old? This app is so critical to my livelihood! I've noticed that the microphone icon looks different....If I pause for a short time an error message shows up. "An error has occurred". This happens a few seconds after stop speaking.

Please, please make this plug in better. I have early onset arthritis and I need your help. The annoying 'starting at the top' bug is sand in my gears. Some basic punctuation commands like period, comma, new paragraph, would be golden. I'd pay good money for a plug in which worked a bit more seamlessly.

This works pretty well so far for me on my Chromebook. It's not perfect, but it does save a lot of key strokes.

After installing if you can't see the RECORD ICON simply refresh gmail page and create a new email. The record icon should be there now. "If time is money I must owe you something for saving me so many keystrokes!"

This is a pretty good app. Would be nice however to customize it in some way as in a customized dictionary or if it is able to save your voice and make improvements in recognition.

Works well some of the time but often the mic just doesn't respond (goes purple from red). Then I have to use another Chrome app, Voice Note II, which works better and more reliably. The other issues of punctuation and caps are minor compared to this issue with it just stopping/not working. This problem makes it mostly useless. If this were fixed it would be a 4-5 star extension.

Works for awhile and then stops. If I hesitate for a sec or turn it off/on because it isnt working, it starts back at the top of the message again, which is annoying. Mic icon turns purple, what does that mean? No doc I can find.....

Nice idea but implementation, stops often in dictation and when you restart it jumps to the beginning of the document and starts adding words.

Unreliable and Buggy extension. Works for a while then stops, also struggles with cursor placement (one has to turn the microphone on, then place the cursor where i want the text). Sometimes it stops transcribing for no apparent reason even tho mic is on. The number of commands and punctuation support is quite limited. I would love to see support for basic commands like: erase (word), erase all, send email. And support for basic punctuation like, at sign (@), dollar sign ($), (semi) colon. Also, unfortunately, capitalization of the first word dictated is NOT supported either! I still wind up having to go into Speechnotes or Google docs to get capable dictation reults, then copy/paste into my email. Why Google doesn't integrate this important capability competently is beyond me!

This seems great! Why did it take me so long to find it? IMO it even seems to work better than Google Doc's Voice Typing... though I admit I'm puzzled by why a single add-on can't work across Google's doc and email functions. Anyway, recommended.

The cursor getting back to the top of the email is an irritating feature. When I dictate an email, especially when they are longer and more formal ones (I'm a scientist), I am editing as much as dictating. This means going back-and-forth and adding information, correcting sentences etc. That bug makes this almost unusable. Anyone have a better recommendation?

Its not picking up commands like punctuations, next line, paragraph etc. Thats pathetic.

I am really quite impressed with this app as it is faster than Dragon Dictation which I paid $80 for and consistently hate to even load because it takes so long to get started not to mention all the updates that don't really provide any new features or benefits. Yes, it does glitch from time to time but I think for most of you that could be a low quality microphone or low processing power on your computer. Consider getting a good quality microphone and trying again. I got my microphone for $5 on eBay. It's a small lapel clip mic. Yes, capitalization and punctuation does glitch from time to time but editing my voice-to-text results is still multiple times faster than typing with blisters all over my hands which is why I got this in the first place.

Initially works good for a few sentences, but then stops working long term. It teases you with something potentially amazing, but then is disappointing.

Generally very good. Capitalization and punctuation matters are annoying but this is a step in the right direction.

Compared to dictation in Google Docs, this app rates a zero. Many have pointed out the flaws. Repeated stops. No caps on sentence. After a stop, a new sentence will jump to the top of the email. The plague of the purple mic which repeatedly pops up. This app is a useless piece of crap. If I have a long email to send, I dictate into Docs and then copy/paste into gmail. Joe Prospero

All the comments apply in my case. I had to make so many corrections that I quit using it. It seems like a sad state of affairs if this is considered one of the best voice system for Gmail, which is one of the most used email systems.

Didn't work w/ Gmail after installing. Does it require a reboot? Didn't tell me that. Bummer.

So far it works great!

I am finding the capitalization to be erratic (random?), and that on my Toshiba chromebook, if that matters, to only be able to dictate in ten-word blocks before it stops taking my dictation. (A side not, the icon appears to stretch horizontal oddly).

Love it. I hate to type and this app saves me so much time. It is easier for me to go back and correct a word or letter then type it out. This is not for an English paper or resume but it does the job.

I've been using this for months it's great. Accuracy is exceptional even when using laptop mic instead of headphone mic.

Every time I started dictating it went back to the beginning. So then I'd stop and cut/paste the dictation to the end of the email and leave the cursor there. Of course the dictation would go right back to the top of the email when I resumed so I'd have to cut/paste to the end again. So frustrating! I have arthritis and this really didn't make it any easier for me to write emails. I still had to fill in the addresses/subjects, change capitalization and punctuation and copy/paste sentences where I wanted them. It's an OK start, but I'm looking forward to more updates that will make this less frustrating.

promising. but as mentioned by others, it is unusable at this time. would love to check out a new version after the issues are fixed

stopped work after few seconds and the sign turned purple without any explanation or option.

This is a great start. It's simple to use and very accurate. As other folks have mentioned the lack of capitalization needs improvement, on balance that is a minor inconvenience compared to the other benefits. Nicely done Greg Sadetsky, and thank you!

downloaded it and it does not show up as an extension

When I say Full stop, next sentence, comma...you write it. I need to be able to navigate around without the system writing out everything I say. Also when i manually press enter or move around in email, the dication defaults back to a random place...very annoying

Does not work properly

Getting carpal tunnel syndrome so taking a week of rest. Still need to reply to emails sometimes so am trying this - love it so far. Absolute life saver!

I was excited to learn that Chrome has this extension, but the results of my first use were disappointing. To echo what others have said, 1) It doesn't capitalize the first letter of a sentence consistently, 2)It starts typing at the top line, usually, and not where I place the cursor, 3)After a few words of my dictation, the microphone turns from orange to purple and it stops transcribing to text, 4) It doesn't consistently type punctuation (e.g. sometimes actually types out the word "comma","exclamation point," "return." As it now stands, this extension is unusable for me, because I can actually type my email faster than dictating it and then going back to make all the corrections.

Frustrating experience. It doesn't seem to like punctuation prompts or special characters like (). It also capitalizes words in the middle of sentences. For the life of me I could not get it to stop capitalizing "Packaging"...huh?

It won't pick up where you move the cursor which is a major problem. If you want to start a new paragraph with your cursor then start dictating it adds it onto the previous paragraph. Please fix! It also won't take punctuation. It also only takes a few words then stops and the only workaround I"ve found so far is to stop it then restart but then it's a crapshoot as to where you text will show up. also the mic sometimes turns purple, what does this mean?

There is a lot of potential to this extension, and it already is impressive. The only thing I would suggest echoes what others have said - more consistent capitalization of sentences. Adding more command words would also be nice, but the priority should be on capitalization, as far as I'm concerned. That aside, I appreciate all the effort put into this so far, and again, it is already impressive.

Wow - This is very cool stuff!!!

Besides needing to bo back to correct the beginning of each sentence more annoying is the fact that NONE of the commands which can be used so readily with Google Voice Recognition program can be used on email it appears to me. So rather than deleting the previous word it writes "delete" etc.

Need to start sentances with caps. and need to be able to speak contact info and title info.

I have noticed that the micophone stops recording my dictation after five minutes. I am using my Chromebook and I have the screen stay on/awake, so I know it's not timing out. So it's rather annoying when I'm dictating along and then go back and look and realize it didn't catch anything I dictated after 5 minutes. This should be stated in the app so people aren't wasting their time with it. If this were fixed I'd give the app 4 to 5 stars, as the voice recognition is better than a lot of others.
