it does not delete anything and i have the latest verion
this is really help full
I installed ver 2.0 basic and for admin. I reset my profile with no other extensions and refreshed the slack application and it is still not working. Both versions flashes red saying messages are being deleted, but they're not. Please advise on a solution.
I installed the 2.0 version and it is not working at all. Previous version worked, but this one is doing nothing. Flashes red saying messages are being deleted, but they're not :(
Thank your for the latest update! Appreciate your updating to the latest Slack version for your extension to work! It's so much faster now! Much appreciated!
No longer works, don't install this plugin. Even if it would work, unpaid version only deletes own messages....
This extension is broken because slack changed URL, don't bother installing.
Unfortunatelly that extension did not work. I figured out on delete all the message using the AutoHotkey software and the script provided here: https://pastebin.com/3ynDxgbX https://pastebin.com/y74Pm1Ns
no longer works on https://app.slack.com/client/ URL's :-( Thanks it used to work like a charm
Didn't work for me at all. It reported "This Slack page isn't channel page neither direct message page". I'm pretty sure that I know my own direct message page.
Stopped working. Keeps saying not in direct message or channel when I clearly am
Unfortunately, this and other Slack message deleter extensions no longer work. It appears that Slack has changed the format of their URLs, so the extensions can no longer recognize when the page you are on is a channel or direct message. This will require some redevelopment before it works again.
No longer works as slack has changed their urls from "messages" to "client". The add on doesn't recognize direct messages anymore.
Good app, but currently broken. It can't seem to detect the channel name and ID.
Was great, but stopped working completely. Now it keeps saying "Please go to some Slack Channel or direct messages" even while there. I think it's thanks to an update but my coworkers and me really need this and I hope it will be fixed!
Does not work anymore.
It does not work any longer. Keep on saying " This page isn't channel page neither direct message page"
This is proper rubbish, don't bother. It's barely functional, it definitely won't do what you want; you have to pay through the nose for that - thanks Slack for omitting basic functionality, others can profiteer on. Awesome.
Doesn't work. Deletes a few messages and reloads the page. Then the messages come back. Tried refreshing. Clearing cash. Restarting browser. Nothing worked.
So incredibly thankful for this extension! Peta, you have saved me countless hours that I would have had to spend doing manual delete. Thank you for the time and effort you put into creating this.
I like the convenience of being able to bulk delete. Yes, you can get the paid version of slack which supports bulk deletion, but over time, it becomes so much more expensive. Bulk delete would literally be the only thing I need from a paid plan that is not on the free plan. So the $50 for this extension is worth it overall. My only issue: Is there a way to delete when conversations go into threads? When you are running the deleter, it stops when a message has sub-threads attached to them. 5th star if we can get that going!
Clicked delete all messages and it opened asking for $50. If you want people to pay then you should just list the paid version. Another reviewer mentioned that the $50 version is not even your code, which is even worse.
It just does not work. if I delete messages in my slackbot channel, they are indeed deleted on the surface, but once I reload the page they are all back! So nice idea but useless!
I tested this to see if it would actually work before I bought the full version. We needed to clear the messages from our private Slack channel before we made it public. We were able to delete tens of thousands of messages really easily (using the full version) - other extensions I tried required me to keep scrolling and clicking every so often. This version is for non-admins to delete your own messages. It does exactly what it says.
It appears to stop when it reaches a channel topic or purpose change I've performed myself. After realizing this, I reloaded the page, restarted the process with no messages for the last few days, and the extension gave me a "complete" dialog despite not deleting anything further.
Excellent job! The only problem I have with it is when a coworker invokes the deleter in the same channel at the same I try to. I know that used to work a few months ago but now it doesn't. Works great otherwise
Doesnt work
Good
Good one.
This is just a trick to refer you to another chrome extension that costs $50/year
Doesn't work at all
Worked exactly as advertised, deleted all of my messages from any particular channel. Was a little slow, but worked great. =D
After the recent change in policy, I needed a simple way to delete hundreds of private messages. Very simple with this extension. Just open slack on Chrome, navigate to the conversation and click delete all messages. Will purge all of your formerly private messages. Thanks to the developer. Ad free, to boast.
This tool is very useful. Slack's new TOS / Privacy Policy makes me want to purge everything and find another platform, other than the one I have used and loved for years... and this plugin makes removing your own messages a breeze. As others have mentioned, it can be slow, and sometimes you have to start over, but it's effective, and the free version is more than enough for my needs. I would support this version with a donation.
DOESN'T WORK.
worked for me. thank you!
This app works great but slowly, it deletes all my messages with a click of a button but if you have over 50k messages like me, leave it over night or maybe over a week hahaha
Sorry, not working at all.
App works but you have to pay for the full version. Not worth $50/yr to delete all messages.
Note: This free version is best for individual users who would like an easier way to delete your own messages from Slack. It's best used prior to leaving a Slack community that you don't want to participate in any longer. Between activating the Export app in Slack and purchasing the admin version of this Chrome app, I was able to completely reconfigure Slack for my team in preparation to add a new group of users. Export was used to export messages from public, private and DM channels by date range. Then Slack's import for text/CSV was used. I combined my small team's messages from multiple channels into new channels, with older messages going directly to yearly archive channels. Note, you will lose file and link previews by doing CSV export/import but file links will still work. To me, this was not an issue because previews take up a lot of space and can be distracting. The paid version of Chrome Message Deleter for Slack app was then used to clean out all of the old channels. It works at a slow pace, only deleting one message at a time but it's still far better than doing it by hand! The only issue I had was the app quitting when it encountered threaded messages. Threaded messages need to be deleted manually, then just restart the Message Deleter app. Fortunately, we haven't used threaded messaging too much since it was introduced in January 2017. I was able to completely empty our #general channel with about 17k messages (we have a paid instance) but it took several hours. Lastly, if you're doing a complete reorganization of your Slack instance like I did, you'll definitely want to map out what goes where before you get started and keep track of which channels you want to clean out after exporting. Feel free to message me for more info about my process.
It used to work, but now it does nothing at all....
This is obviously a bait and switch. The description clearly states this is "Completely free and with no ads." Yet, the first time you attempt to use the addon, all it does is forward you to the a request to pay $50. That's absurd and so is the pricing.
goes through all the motions of doing something, but in the end nothing is deleted.
Not free as said.
bait and switch
great idea for a plugin. too bad that the moment you try to use it it just drives to a link to sell the actual plugin to you for $50. That's waay to much for a plugin that isn't really needed that often.
marketed as free, but to use feature to delete all messages, it directs you to pay $49 for admin version - useless for what I needed to do (I do not care about deleting just my own messages). Why do you have that button in free version at all, if there is no such feature in free version? Feels like "bait and switch" tactic. Tried this twice and read reviews before writing this. (If it is possible to delete all messages w/o paying then UI is really poor b/c user cannot find that)_
Excellent! Worked perfectly, as described.
Very helpful to have!
Does exactly what it says. Have to click it a few times / scroll up through the channel's history to get all the messages, but other than that, works fine
Only deletes your own messages, once this can be used to selectively delete (or bulk delete) for admins it will be perfect!
Thanks for saving me
Thank you!
Unfortunately this only allows deletion of your won messages within a channel. I am an admin and often have the need to delete all messages in a channel, unfortunately this tool will not do it
Nice tool, although you should mention that this compliance reports allowing export of private channel and DM data is only available to "Plus" pricing plans. Furthermore only message history up to the time where compliance feature was enabled can be exported and of course the whole Slack team is informed about this!
