Before I installed and gave them my credit card, it worked somewhat fine (meaning I could atleast click on the icon and open the menu). Now that I have logged in and got it setup and gave my credit card it cannot or will not open and turn on. This is seeming like a scam or very poorly designed. Either way, glad I used a privacy card that I can pause and turn off billing so they cannot bill me until I can use the product.
It's a cool idea for increasing your vocabulary, but as someone who used to be more fluent in French, I've noticed a lot of translations that I would never have used. It also misses a huge part of what it takes to be fluent in a language, which is the syntax and grammar. The words seem clunky when put into English sentences in the wrong order. It's fine to pick up a couple words, though of course this won't make you learn the language, and definitely double check the translations with your dictionary. I don't think I would pay for a subscription however.
One of the best extensions that I have used. The design and accessibility of this plugin has been amazing. I use it every day and recommend it to anyone learning spanish. I am glad to see that French will be offered as well.
The only reason I'm not giving this extension 5 stars it because it: 1. Is limited to only three languages which is understandable but doesn't help set apart this app from competitors. 2. The word pop-ups intermittently lag when scrolling over them so sometimes it'll appear and sometimes you'll need to click on it. 3. The pop-ups don't always show on the page if the word is near the top of the page, I would need to scroll for the word to be in the middle of the screen, but this might be something I need to fix on my end. Other than that, it's a great app; after three days of use I'm confidently able to learn and remember words and the interface looks great.
I LOVE THIS EXTENSION!!!! Language learning always seems so random to me but this gives me **context**. I'm a software developer and now when I go to StackOverflow and other sites I can contextually learn the language given what I do. This is a MUST HAVE / ESSENTIAL GOOD when I look at the rest of my chrome extensions. Even the Google Translate extension hasn't taught me anything.
Helped me with a lot of unfamiliar words.
It's pretty good but i'm missing two major(in my opinion) features: 1. It doesn't let me select a word to translate and add to the list, and i have no control over which words are chosen at all(at least i couldn't find a way), another similar extension actually lets you to choose to focus on 300/5000/etc most common word of the language you're learning. 2. It works only with the texts in the source language, like if i learn French i can use it to translate english words from the text i'm reading, but if i want to read a french text it's useless and i need another extension. So basically yeah, if i could choose any word in either target or source language, plus if i had some control over the scope of study it would be great, so far it's not, but useful of course. Thanks!
The best extension for learning a new language. Helped me refresh a lot of my Spanish knowledge. Makes it so smooth and simple (& integrates fluently into my workflow).
please allow to adjust word translations i want more words
The extension is incredible for learning a new language and is easy to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a new language.
It's great!
wow! this is actually an awesome extension, i've been using and it is so helpful!!
I love that this pops up when I am reading something that interests me and it supplies words that I will actually need in the future. I never have to read anything that doesn't apply to my life. I don't have to learn "Business" language or "Restaurant" or "Hotel' vocabulary as I don't do any of those things in my retired life. I'm really looking forward to the indexes of YouTube and Netflix that will tell me which shows are at my Comprehensible Input level. I've had a really hard time finding appropriate shows.
I just started with it, however I think it is such an innovative way of learning all types on words, common or uncommon. And all the features, like being able to turn it off and choosing the amount of words on a page, it feels like they actually want to help and not just take money! I would definitely recommend this!
its amazing and it really helps for the people that want to learn languages
i love this extension i just wish it had more languages available to learn. and the extension only really teaches you how to read a language not speak it. but otherwise GREAT
thanks a lot
Worked perfectly for about ten minutes, then stopped offering any words for translation. Now they have my email address and personal data. :-(
Fluent is my favorite Chrome Extension ever--I studied Spanish for many years in school, but of course, there are so many words that aren't included in outdated textbooks that I want/need to use in my daily life! Fluent takes the words that I already see daily (at work, in class, or even while browsing the internet for fun) and challenges me in fun and different ways each time I encounter them. I remember the feeling the first time I saw the confetti pop up on my screen after successfully learning a new word! I am excited to see Fluent grow and get even better over time, so far, it's been my favorite technology that I've used in my language learning journey. ?
Love this extension! I'm learning words as I surf the web. It's brilliant and is a great way to squeeze in learning. I have been trying it out for 3 weeks now and have decided to sign-up for the PRO account. I really want Fluent to succeed and have put in my support. Thank you so much for creating this, Fluent team! ?
Very promising start, I love the idea of the passive language education. Wonder if they can get into subtitles somehow?
I'm so excited that I'm finally going to learn Spanish. I love how this is immersive rather than rely on me to be proactive and set aside time to learn. Bout to book a trip to Spain.
This is a GAME. CHANGER.
This is one of the best ways to learn a language because you are actually using and hearing the words your learning daily as you use your computer, phone or tablet. I wish I would have know about this sooner.
Trying this out. It's really cool have the learning while using what I'm already interested in. We'll see how it progresses before I can give a real judgment.
Love it! Such a simple idea but easy to use. Learning a language while doing your regular browsing is simply amazing. I am blown away by this tool.
Excellent extension. I found it accidentally while looking for some translation/keyboard extensions for French and have been using it daily for weeks. It's still a young tool, so you may find a bug or two, but the development team is highly engaged, continually asks for feedback, and regularly makes updates. Just install it and let Fluent integrate your new language into your daily online life.
Love it!
Great Tool and Great Team ;)
It is an excellent way to learn French! I have been using it for a while now and i have learnt a good number of french vocabulary..thanks to Fluent. I
This is one of the most useful language tools. I love learning and being refreshed as I use the web.
Bravo! Great extension. I have been wanting to learn Spanish forever, but can never make the time. I think this will solve that problem. Thank you to the creators, I absolutely love it!
Love this add-on. I am excited to see what future features will be. Great if like me you have studied a language before, but begin to forget the vocabulry or wish to enlarge it. recommend it very much : )
As someone who forgot all of her French vocab during quarantine and now has to go back to school and pretend she learned something plus remembers things from before, this app is an amazing way for me to ignore my problem while solving it :)
I've wanted to learn a new language for a while, but have always been too lazy to fully commit to any real study/app. Fluent is non-obtrusive and very useful, it is honestly quite a pleasant experience. If at any point I need to turn it off, it is quick and easy to do so and turn back on right after. This is a great extension and I am hopeful for the future of it.
Love this app! Such a great and easy way to integrate learning into your daily life.
Such a brilliant extension! Not annoying or in your face, and integrates quite seamlessly into whatever page you're viewing.
its a very helpful extension so here's a complement to your hard work (j’adore le grand travail)
Fluent allows me to familiarize myself with different terms. Everything about it screams "professional!" and I have no doubt it will improve my French vocabulary.
Ara and the team are creating a world-class product. Great way to learn a new language without interrupting your daily workflow. If you've ever felt like you want to learn another language but struggle to find the time then Fluent is a chrome extension built for you.
Honestly pretty awesome. I'm on my computer all the time so having some words changed to Spanish really helps me practice. I use it as a companion to spending 30 minutes a day on Duolingo. I think it's helping a lot.
Amazing
I guess I can now pick up women in French with just 3 weeks of experience. ????? Too great of an idea. Love this.
PERFECTO I AM JUST LOVING THIS EXTENSION . I AM REALLY THANKKFUL TO THE DEVELOPER , IT JUST SLIDES THE WORDS SO EASILY IN LITERALLY ANYTHNG THAT WE ARE READING . (THUMBS UPP)
First review of a Chrome extension. Fluent is a delight. It's thoughtfully designed, unobtrusive, yet effective. Bravo.
Loved this extension. one of the greatest and the best .
This chrome extension just only doesn`t work it just crashes once it is installed . I have tried installing uninstalling for more than 3 times but it`s not yet working . Please look into the matter .
Incredibly happy with this extension!
I've been using it to passively learn Spanish since I've always wanted to visit coffee producing countries in South/Central America! It would be wonderful to be able to speak to the folks behind the amazing cups we drink every day. I'm looking forward to Fluent adding more features to actively use whatever language you're learning, and become the operating system for the digital age of language learning.
so far, i can't believe i haven't utilized this or anything like this before. it's PERFECT for me. i'm online like, all day. and don't want to put effort it to study Spanish, but this makes it SO freakin' simple and fun. and necessary at first to know what the heck the article you are reading is saying. it's genius and fun and i am so excited to have found this. rosetta who??? lol.
I wish it was more customisable- I like seeing the French words scattered in, but I just want to be able to hover over them to see what they are in English without them changing color and turning into a test. Often times words aren't translated- but seem to just vanish from the middle of sentences! It's a great idea, but between these issues and realising lots of words are inaccurate.. It's just not reliable yet.
This app has a ton of potential, but the translations to spanish currently are pretty terrible. On any given page, I would likely would report at least 10 bad translations. Some would be just words that lack context, others would be completely and totally incorrect which is a disaster for people who are learning a language. For me I pretty much have to look up on a dictionary any correction the app gives me to see if it is correct. Because I have to correct so often, there is also a popup that I have to click on to make the acknowledgement go away which is also incovenient. I also have had to correct the same translation many times without improvement. This app has so much potential and I really hope to be able to increase the rating in the future. I am still using it to see if things improve but right now I would not recommend it until the translations improve. It would be more useful to increase vocabulary to only translate words and phrases the team is very confident about and slowly expand that list over time, removing words that get reported as incorrect.
I'm a language teacher and was testing out the app before recommending it to my students. I put it on while scrolling through twitter and I probably flagged at least half of the words for being wrong (ex. "raise your hand" became "raise your [poker hand]" and "body positivity" became "body [positive ions]"). Additionally, in the case of French in particular, my concern would be that by just singling out words (even if they are using the correct translation for context, which is hard for a computer) students might struggle because so much of the language is about placement and gender/number agreement. A lot of teaching language when starting out is making students understand that the new language isn't just their first language with words replaced: the target language has different grammar and syntax as well as new vocabulary. Using this program with beginning students might be too confusing or even lead to fossilized errors. However, with more advanced students this could be a fun thing to use, but only once the developers have solved the context-vocabulary issue. I imagine that's not too far away, since translation software has improved leaps and bounds in this area since they first came out. I remember in the early days of google translate trying to say "stay safe" and getting "stay [wall safe for valuables]"!
This is a really interesting idea. I can tell the developers are thoughtful about how this works. I am turning it off after two weeks of using it though, because I just can't trust the translations. Sometimes it gets them wildly wrong, but other times it gets them subtly wrong. Today with "what's my hourly rate" in referring to salary, it tried to translate "rate" as "rythme", which I think probably means rhythm, which is kind of like rate. I can see how those words are confusing, but overall I just can't trust it enough. I don't know the language I'm trying to learn very well, and I worry it's getting the wrong words, and I'm pretty sure it's using "dictionary" level words that people wouldn't really use in real life. As a beginner to the language I'd rather use the simple but probably correct word, instead of a more advanced word that may have other subtle connotations that I'm missing. Speaking of those words - I don't think it's translating words that are used very often, either. A lot of the words it chooses seem to be words I wouldn't use very often.
Fluent is like an improved version of anki in that you never have to sit down and crunch out 100 flash cards, they are just placed randomly in things you would already be doing. Makes it much much easier to actually make progress that's fun an inviting. I avoided anki because it felt like work but I get excited when a new pink word shows up because I enjoy learning them.
This is such a great extension. I get to study Spanish without it feeling like a chore. It highlights the perfect amount of words: just enough for me to get some good practice but not so much that it's overbearing.
Useful and not time or will-power draining approach to learn some bits of Spanish everyday. It is great that the add-on also has a recap function which makes you feel like you are actually learing.
Truly incredible product. The days of apps are over, they require consistency and deliberate intentions. Fluent has a built in forcing function that makes learning new words so much more passive. Fluent also introduces you to more real-world words that you'd like use in your conversations since it's based on what you're reading. What a sweet product!
Big ups to you guys! The whole company loves this
Love this concept! Such a huge fan and I have it turned on all day while I'm browsing. Thanks guys!
This is so amazing! It just makes sense because it's taking words from my actual life and then turning them into Spanish for me. I'm basically accidentally learning a new language lol. Love it!
excellent so far
Need it in Japanese!!
Extremely impressed with Fluent, particularly because it makes language acquisition a 24hr process (I rock Fluent on both personal and work laptops). Being able to surprise my family with new Italian vocab never gets old. And the Fluent team themselves is exceptional as well, so excited to see what is possible for this app and team!
Wonderful idea! It so nicely fits in your daily routine that you don't have go out of your way learn a language. It doesn't get better than this. Great job guys!
Learning a new language is beyond just logging into an app for 10 mins a day and getting some points. Learning a new language is all about immersion – living and breathing in that language until you become familiar with it. Fluent does exactly that.
The new way to language learn, enough said. Love the way this embeds everywhere, and how their team is working to continue innovating! Really great, receptive team of people. Keep it up Fluent!! 5/5
Genius! Picking up a few words here and there just from using the web. Great idea, absolutely loving this extension.
Love it, brilliant idea
One word: amazing! This extension will convert random words on the website you are reading into French. It is easy to set-up, has the option to disable the app on certain websites and most importantly it allows you to learn French (or Spanish) without disrupting your daily schedule. It even will let you customize how many words per page you want to learn! In fact, I wish I could have more. I have already recommended it to others and I recommend it to you as well!
Fluent gave me a new lease on life. I never thought I would ever be able learn a language as complex and beautiful as French but fluent made it happen!!! Now I can complete my life goal of saying lécher mon cul Sarah Bernhardt, inventor of the fedora.
Love Fluent! Have been using it for a couple of weeks to learn Spanish.
Key to learning a language is immersion. This extension helps me learn new words while I'm working. Very easy to use too. Would like to see more words being translated on the page as I get more advanced
I really like this extension because it allows me to learn a language passively while I am doing my own browsing. One thing I think would improve the experience if there was an option to add certain words to a dictionary or save them somehow so that I could look for them later.
This extension is amazing! I'm learning Spanish and this will help me tremendously.
I LOVE Fluent! I'm a beginner at French, and it has allowed me to incorporate the language into my daily lifestyle. I've learned new vocabulary, while re-enforce words I already knew. I recommend this project to everyone who wants to learn a new language.
This extension is GENIUS! It doesn't get in the way of your day to day and you can learn within the current context of whatever you're doing. Let me put it this way, if you're interested in whatever you're reading on your browser then you will be tying the words you're learning to things you're interested in, making them more memorable!
I studied linguistics and speak 5 languages. This is such a helpful tool! Actually very helpful for keeping my French sharp.
Love the extension!
i still don't know how to use this extension.... i tried to read vogue FR with it but it did't work. but i think it's just me not knowing how to make it work.... oh thanks for the reply! yes that's exactly the case, i'm an english speaker trying to learn french but i thought it would work on french websites for us to read french stuff! anyways. i know how to use it now. thanks!
I absolutely love Fluent! It has helped me brush up my French. Thank you for making such an awesome tool!
Elegantly designed and great concept! Can't wait for the team to add more Asian languages, as I'd love to brush up on my Chinese and take a stab at Korean and Japanese.
Love love love it! So amazing how they are integrating learning and web browsing. It also lets me customise the amount of text i want translated so that lets me adjust what a comfortable reading experience is for me. Amazed by the newly released spanish beta version too! ❤️
wanna pay and want other language too
Awesome, only used it for a few days so far, but it has a lot of potential.
A really nice app! I'm beta testing Spanish translations now, and it is a lot of fun
It's really helpful
Really creative concept. It replaces random words in your websites with french words, and tells you the definition when you hover over it.
I love this plugin... can't wait for Spanish or German!!!
I'm sorry, but this word substitution approach just doesn't work. The logic is completely context-free, and I'm afraid it's teaching people bad French. I had to finally disable it because it seemed pointless. The final straw was "He flies to Washington" having "flies" be "mouches" (the insects).
i hate opening courses, that's why fluent is amazing. I don't have to study. I just do what i'm doing and I learn a language!!!
Awesome, easy way to add more French vocabulary! Love it!
cool concept!
This is absolutely wonderful!
Really wonderful way to start learning French. Nice compliment to other websites.
