The behavior I'm witnessing is that the extension is inventing words out of thin air and adding them into the text on webpages. It's finding false positives. So if I have "doctor" and "specialist" as highlighted terms, and a webpage says "Janitor", it might just randomly add "doctor" to the title so that it says "Janitor Doctor". Sorry, but this bug ruins the extension completely and causes horrible misunderstandings, and, obviously the users of this extension do not want false positives.

It has made my life and my teams life so much easier. We are more productive and efficient because of this tool!

Is redirecting traffic and injecting ref links without consent. It's like malware. Hopefully google will remove it and it's not GDPR compliant.

Can't get it to work at all

Used it for years, currently it's a mess really, as it does not highlight the words on the list, especially when the list is long. Tried to use Google Sheet new integration but only get 404 errors, even despite following all instructions. Also this app could use folders functionality, where we could lump in the group of words.

can you please make the notification text white or the background itself coz it's hard to read or notify it, the past version it was blue background and white text now it's blue and black, it's hard to see black text in blue background thanks. But overall I love this extension it really helps me on my job.

What is happening with this extension today - is it now malware/spyware? As of 2022-10-11, this extension is redirecting microsoft.com links, from Google search results, to https://lead3.pl/unsupportedcountry - with the message... "You are in a beautiful place - Unfortunately you cannot go to this page while you are there. - The site does not support the country in which you are. Sorry for the inconvenience." A copy of the link addresses show: "https://mtusrede.de/redir/clickGate.php?u=...&m=...&p=...&t=...&splash=0&q=microsoft&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2F"

For being free, this is super awesome tool imo. It may have it flaws or should I say segments which could be taken even further. First that comes to my mind is option to auto apply of wildcards to fill spaces with sign ?.

Great extension for teachers. If you have differentiated groups but some web app you're working with doesn't have the ability to group students in a user friendly way, this is a good workaround. It's colour coded too so it jumps at you as opposed to black on white background text.

Sadly the extension is now acting as malware and redirecting traffic to some websites through affiliate links. You can test this yourself. Do a google search for Dell and use one of the first few links. You will first be redirected through a site such as anrdoezrs(dot)net. Disable the extension, reload the google search and click a link, you will do directly to the site as expected.

I would give this a higher rating, but there's been a recurring issue of words disappearing from a list. All lists are set to sync so it's not due to changing computers. This issue is making me consider using another extension. I really like this extension and its functionality but the disappearing words is making this too unreliable.

Fantastic tool! A similar tool that I had used for years was withdrawn from the Chrome store, and so I had to look again, and this tool has easily 3x the features of the previous tool. My only feature suggestion would be either adding the name of the group as a ToolTip/Title to the highlighted term, or provide a field to provide a ToolTip for the highlighted term. For example, suppose I want to boycott/support certain organizations. Sure, I can highlight their names everywhere, but I might forget why I'm highlighting those names, and a quick MouseOver could tell why it's highlighted. Thanks for a get extension!

5 Stars!!! Probably not it's intended usage but this tool has been a lifesaver for me as a Technical Recruiter. I can add in technical competencies, and qualifications and screen resumes/LinkedIn's/profiles at SUCH a high rate. I actually found out that I can source faster than anyone in my organization due to this tool! Definitely recommend working with this. Can be a bit finicky working between different profiles and you have to refresh every once in a while, but as a daily user. It's value is worth the trouble!

Thank you for this amazing piece of art. I'm preparing for GRE and this extension have been a great help to me. The only thing it is missing it couldn't highlight the words in epub ( reading using extension). Can it be done ?

Used to work in Google Docs, not anymore. Amazing tool, developer is clearly just doing this in his free time so it's amazing he's put this much effort into it. I wish there was a lifetime deal or something for a paid version with some guaranteed support.

Glitchy. Save function is sporadic (particularly for checkmarking items). It doesn't seem to be able to highlight abbreviations like U.S. Adding words is confusing.. just add a word after a space and then bump it to the next line with enter. I'm afraid that I will have to keep looking.

It does what it says. Doesn't seem to be the best looking, and some of the instructions for things like the actions are not as understandable for someone who only knows the basics of browsing the web. I installed this to see if there was a specific feature, but sadly there is not and will be removing it. It seems like it has been a while since there was any updates, but if you are still supporting this, it could be a useful feature to add an "Action" to show a specific note that you have typed up when you click on the highlighted text. With that feature alone, I know there are 30+ of us that would install this immediately. Again, it does what you have intended it to do, and might be exactly what others need, just not me.

Doesn't work with changing page contents

This highlighter is unmatched. But it could really use a tooltip feature on hover or click that displays the list name the item belongs to. That way if there are several highlights of similar color, they can be differentiated, but more importantly, we can save important information about the highlights. This would basically allow us not only to highlight specific keywords but basically end up with a function to append a note/text/label to those highlights, with what would probably take very little programming. I do believe such a feature would revolutionize the way many of use use the web. Wanted to submit that to your vote site, but it seems to be down. --- Troubleshooting in case anyone is having issues: One day it stopped working. Comepletely broken, will not highlight anything. Nothing changed, settings are the same, nothing is paused, nothing in the white/blacklist. Very strange. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and various other things to no avail. Eventually I had a hunch and went into chrom://flags (vivaldi://flags, in my case) and enabled "Allow invalid certificates for resources loaded from localhost," reinstalled the extension, and voila, it's working again. HOWEVER importing a backup of previous settings broke the extension again. I had to add them all back manually. I would really like to see the developer address this problem at least by pointing to instructions of some kind for how to solve this problem.

This extension used to be great, but it appears the developer has gone AWOL and is no longer making needed improvements or performing maintenance.

Works as intended. However, if you search the wordlist and delete the word you searched for and then save the list, it will DELETE ALL WORDS IN THE LIST.. Now I have to remember and rewrite every single word in the list again....

This recently stopped working. Not sure what happened. Won't highlight anything yet previously working flawlessly. Happened within the last week. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work. I checked the white/black list and it's empty. Pausing and unpausing didn't work, and adding a new highlight doesn't either, so it's not just old highlights. Not sure what's going on. It's a shame this was previously my favorite highlighter. Maybe related there was recently an issue with the popup that wasn't full fized and prevented me from actually interacting with it until I opened the extension address in the browser bar to get it full sized. This might or might not be related but thought it might be a hint as to what might be going on here.

When printing the webpage, although colors aren't showing up, the highlighted words have a box enclosing them. How can it be removed?

December 2021 - Are you still maintaining this extension for Chrome? I am asking because I have not see recent reviews with any comments the developer. I use this in my daily workflow to highlight my task list in Salesforce.com and it has not been working for a week. Enable/Disable, Uninstall/reinstall/Reimport config does not resolve. Google Chrome Version 96.0.4664.110 (Official Build) (64-bit). Can you please let me know if you require any troubleshooting on my part to assist?

Bad extension! Sometimes works sometimes not. But the biggest problem I had is that a few days after I installed it, I couldn't load certain sites (ex: youtube). I deleted the history, cookies, passwords and media files from the browser and the problem remained. After uninstalling this extension, things returned to normal. It won't be fun to accept all the cookies again and enter the passwords again on Google Chrome. :(

I need to highlight words in both English and Russian, but if I check "Only detect complete words" it won't select the Russian words, and if I uncheck it, it seems to find every partial match for the English words (ie. apple seems to match the word a.) I say "seems" because it doesn't highlight anything but the alert pops up saying it found a match when there is no match with the full word. The interface is confusing as well.

Catches some words but also misses a lot. When I click and try to add what is missed, it tells that the word was already added so, it just misses a lot of what's already on my list.

anyone know if this extension is still being maintained by the author? if not, anyone know any open source alternative? I was wondering if the action can be expanded to include "copy to clipboard" feature.

A very helpful tool, aids me in speed reading through articles especially when working. My only issue is that I can't get seem to get the site exclusions working, it still highlights the words in websites I've added in the exclusion list.. even *.google.* isn't working

Finally - a functional multihighlighter I've tried a bunch of these over the years and this one is by far the best to date.

I like it, however I would like to be able to highlight a different color to each words within a list (each bullet points could be a different color). I somehow was able to do this when I first got the extension, but now after an hour of trying it again, it will not work. trying to change the color of a single word (in a bullet point) will just change the color of every single words in that list. it's frustrating bc when I research literature, every words will just be one blob of color.

Is it possible to make it off by default? I only want to turn it on myself when I need it but it seems like every time I open a new window, it's turned on by default.

Very useful and helpful for finding certain words as updated.

I don't understand what the ON-OFF switch actually does...I put it in OFF (because I don't want the words to be highlighted every time I open my browser) and it switches back ON!! ...WHY this hassle to disable it every time I open chrome?...So 1 star and removed

Extension is really great, but it is not highlight text words in editable fields such as WordPress admin post editor <textarea>this is my word</textarea>. Although I see an option where it says (Highlight in editable fields) but it won't work.

Excellent work Wim! Words work, sentences work, even works sometimes without refreshing, having several lists was great, so far always work not like other extensions that does not work 50% of the time, very well thought extension.

Works, which is nice... wildcard support is fantastic. Only issue I have is when i'm adding new words, enter will save and close, shift-enter will give me a new line but without the checkbox and when I save and edit again, the new lines are all mixed into one line. Update. Enter now creates a new line with checkbox. Great! For some reason, highlighted text in a dropdown list is not clickable. You can click the whitespace after the highlighted word, but not anywhere near the highlighted text.

Wouldn't work at all, I was trying to find a word in a slide I made, I found the word, but it wasn't highlighted, even after adding it to group one, do not recommend to anyone.

I love this extension, it's definitely the easiest to use and most feature packed that I've used. One thing I haven't been able to get to work is highlighing phrases. I've got four lists set up with different colours which works for all single words but phrases are missed out. Am I missing something?? Thanks for Wim for creating this great app, if I can figure out how to highlight phrases I will donate for sure!

This is truly a godsend extension! I'm using it for language learning to highlight words that I tend to forget and it's very powerful combined with it (it's way easier to spot what you learned for textbooks, apps,...). Combined with language that use a different alphabet (like Chinese and Japanese), this really helps with remembering hanzi/kanji. Thank you so much for this extension! EDIT: everything works fine (in case you're worrying about some reviews). Backup works smoothly too (amazing feature!)

Highlights didn't show Highlights were saved in the group already, but highlights weren't shown on the page. I tried restarting the web browser but it didn't help.

Removed after less than 2 minutes, the fact that you need to refresh the page everytime AND it doesn't work most of the times I've tried. NOPE!

After testing many highlighting Extensions, this one is the best by far.

Only highlighted 3 phrases on the page and then it stopped working

The latest update broke the updating of the overview list in real time. Now it won't update unless you refresh the page. Please fix this. Edit: Seems to be fixed in the latest v5.2 Edit-2: Issue is back again in v5.2.1 Edit-3: Seems to be fixed in v5.2.2

I love this extension. It is super helpful for my learning. By the way, Recently I've seen "Limitations" in one of my lists. Does it mean I can not put too many words into a group, instead creating another group? Thanks again for the great work!

Hey, used for years, usually great. However yesterday I noticed words from different lists were highlighting in colours assigned to different lists - but not all, only some. I use this for work and it's crucial the lists highlight in their assigned colours.

Great extension but in latest release "Never highlight on these sites" not working! so it highlight anyway...

Works fine, but in basecamp, when a page jump happens, the highlights are gone, after reload, they get back.

Really great extension! I have a huge list of keywords (>2000 entries, some several words) I use to check against certain websites. It helps so much to scan quickly through a site to identify "missing" ones, which I should consider to have in my list. Very recommended when browsing for example for jobs, I can now quickly check if I should consider applying. Well done!

This one of my favorite extensions for Chrome. I've used it for years. However, something in the newest version (5.02) is causing all of the words I've added to simply disappear from the list, so that nothing is highlighted. I have to keep re-loading the list. Hopefully, the developer can address this issue :)

Why do you keep updating it? The latest update made it SO SLOW AND LAGGY. It takes way much time to save a list or add text to it. Please get it back to what it were before.

I love this tool. It's very useful. I like that I can use different colors with different lists. And it works well, even when I have hundreds of words in the list. What would you suggest when keeping speed in mind, is it better to keep all words (hundreds) in one list, or would it better to create several lists and divide words between them? I thank you very much for the wonderful job you are doing with this extension.

I love this tool but today it stopped working. Not sure what is going on. I cant edit my list and although my list are turned on they are not highlighting the words. hopefully someone is working on this bug. Def recommend this tool before today.

I use 125% display size (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display), and therefore I cannot use this extension. + button is not visible.

It doesn't seem to work. Here is what I do: I selected a sentence on a page, right click on it, and choose "+ Default Group" to click. Then I check on it but it is still not highlighted, not like the way sentences and words highlighted on this extension introduce pictures. Though I can find all the sentences and words I have added in default group including this one in the extension. Did I miss something? I hope someone could help me out, thanks.

This is so cool and its very convenient. One thing i would like to have in this extension is the ability to add a description to the word which we have highlighted. that way we don't have to search for the meaning. Great job! :)

Doesn't support the unicode characters, it shows "you have added non unicode words to your list of words, uncheck the complete words detection to highlight them properly" always.

turns out to be a very useful plugin. I use it a lot when doing research. Often I'd like to highlight some keywords, but it could have several Synonyms. With this plugin, I don't have to do anything so that any matched keywords will display automatically. A minor suggestion: Many of the colors are a bit too bright, making them distracting. It would be good if one can choose the level of transparency, so that one can choose a level that is comfortable to his eyes. I would also suggest more colors, like pink, Lavender, Aquamarine, etc. or any other color that are not too dark (otherwise, it would make it difficult to read the context, or would be too distracting.) I Love this tool for recruiting!!! Listen man, I don't give out kudos very often. But, Highlight this? Is Fn amazing. I am giving it up for you right now. I will definitely pay for this to stay around and support you genius' giving me new stuff. Now, having said that, you bit off a big chunk gaining me as a user. I have rocked LinkedIn since 2005 and they have used many ideas I gave them because they nailed it for me as a recruiter. I have rocked Crunchbase for 5 years because they nailed it for me too as a recruiter. I break it down, they get it and make the changes/adopt the ideas. So I just adopted you guys/gals. First off, it really works. And, it works on Sales Navigator, my favorite app right now. I totally Love your wildcards. And, I only started using it for real today.

Love it. The only wish list item I would have is to provide a hover-over popup window with notes applicable to that particular word list. There was a tool for Firefox back in the day, called Vocab Highlighter that did this. But Firefox is not an answer for us.

The remote list option is not working for me... Is there a problem with it?

Hello! Is there any chance of exporting word lists individually? For now, the only export allowed contains the back-up file which basically is made up of all word lists.

Splendid, absolutely marvelous. It is a great tool for many sorts of tasks.Highly recommended. Especially love the backup and restore functionality. There is only one thing that I am missing - more details on what is the data that is stored locally - is it only the word list I create or the highlighted content as well?
