Does not work. Didn't do anything.
I LOVE this extension! I'm an artist, and when I need to draw from an animated gif, I can just use this extention to pause/select the frames I need. (Instead of downloading & opening Photoshop and dealing with the layers menu.) Thank you *so much* for making this! A genuine Technology Good. (I was even able to download a .gifv file, which chrome insisted on converting to webp.)
Does exactly what it says, super helpful!
Excellent.
(2022Jul) Wait now it's not working?!?! (2021Aug) Been taking this for granted for about 2 years!
Very useful extension which works as described. Thank you! There is just one important problem: Larger gifs are always animated scaled-down to about half of my screen size with a lot of empty space around the image! When viewing animated GUI actions it is very hard or impossible to see the details. I am using standard full-HD resolution, Windows 10, Chrome 102
Please add support for kiwi browser
Being able to jump to any frame and play from there already put this extension in a league of its own. Features include playing x8 faster/slower, frame skipping, downloading and exploding gift into frames (haven't tried this one yet). Would be a 5* if not for the "must open a new tab for the player" and the unresizable player that is always larger than my whole screen while the gif inside is tiny in comparision.
Easy to use and very useful too!
Working as of the time of this review on the latest Brave (chrome variant) version, may be a little finicky and hard to use at first but it does work and works great.
I would give this full stars, however upon writing this review. This extension no longer works properly. When you right click a GIF, the window that pops up is only showing "download" & "render" which do nothing. RIP to a marvelous add-on
Works great in the latest version of Chrome and Chromium variants (I'm using Vivaldi)... I think the confusion is about how it works... The extension doesn't alter the GIF's in situ (that is to say, on the page you're viewing them), instead, right-click anywhere over the GIF, and select "GIF Scrubber" from the context menu. A new window will popup with just the GIF, and a load of controls and a timeline scrubber. There are also a few options that can be changed by either clicking "Options" at the top of the pop-up GIF Player, or, alternatively, by right-clicking on the GIF Scrubber icon next to the address bar, and selecting "Options". Hope this helps!
Can't open in current tab and can't open in an incognito tab.
Writing this as of Feb 2021; for some reason this extention doesnt seem to work anymore? It used to work beautifully, but it now only displays "Download" and "Render" with two circles underneath. I have uninatalled and reinstalled and messed with the settings to no avail... This was such a useful app although niche, so I'd really appreciate any help.
Every single gif I try to use this extension with gives me an error: not a valid gif file. Is there a setting I'm missing? I will update the review if I can ever get it to work.
Doesnt work on any animaitons. Just says in red 'Not a valid GIF file.'
Just what I need. Although, categorization of this extension (as "Fun") is not exactly accurate and may hurt discoverability.
Brilliant.
This is amazing. It would be perfect if it had webp support (these image animations are popping up everywhere these days), if I had more control over the playback speed, and maybe could zoom in without bur (ie allow image-rendering: pixelated), but other than that, it has been great.
Good extension. A easy to use application to view gifs in frames without downloading and converting to mp4.
It works exactly like I was hoping! Thank you, and I have been searching for one of these for a while now and this is just what I needed!
Not working at all. Checked auto load. But still not loading when the page contains GIF.
Doesn't work for me, all permissions given but there's no change in gif behavior. It won't even save its own options, all options remain permanently blank and the "save" button does nothing. This is the only extension I'm using which does this.
Works OK, but opens GIF in new tab/window instead of showing controls in original window.
Exactly what I needed! great work :)
No change in .gif behavior; the plugin did exactly nothing. I tried this on both mac and windows to see if it would work on either platform. The player interface did not show in either platform.
Does exactly what I want; allows me to slow down animated gifs with text that are moving too fast to read. Would be a lot cooler if you could do this in-tab, instead of opening the gif in a new window.
Exactely What I need, extremely helpful. It saved my day to learn animation online
It gave me a .zip file instead of a GIF
Please, add new feature: auto resizing of an image to the bounds of the window.
Exactly as it says on the tin! Tx for the keyboard shortcuts :+1: (I experience no lag, btw)
it wa okay.. maybe just built in have the player underneath any image opened in chrome gifs esp. but saves the right click hassle i just want that player for all animated PiCS!
Great tool! Problem with 3MB gif though. Takes a long time to "Render" and at the end out-of-memory reported.
Great tool. Clean and simple.
All I got when I opened a local gif file with a proper file name extension of ".gif" was "Invalid gif file" and this extension did not work.
Used to work. Does not work in its current state, and has been broken for half a year. Now it only shows black frames when I try to look at a gif.
It was working amazing. It was a great app, but after an update it suddenly stopped working, showing only the first frame and blackness for the rest.
Doesn't work. It just shows the first frame of the gif and then black frames for the rest.
It's perfect, the only problem is with mouse over it should work with click on slider not with mouse over. :/
I was really looking for something that would open and view local files. It does allow you to explode the gif file to have the individual images, whatever that's worth. Nifty.
It sorta works, but on big or long gifs it just gives up loading.
Did what I expected it to, but it doesn't work with gif that have .gifv at the end. And that is starting to be used more now.
For navigating forward/backward through a gif (hosted online), this gets the job done. The "explode" feature allows one to easily split a gif into images (1 for each frame). A couple areas of potential improvement: - Release the source code. There is a lot of concerns these days about the security of Chrome extensions. - Make it a little clearer how to open the GIF Scrubber window. It requires a right click on the page, which is not super intuitive given that there's also a button in the extensions toolbar. - It's a little annoying that all mouse movements on the extension page will move forward/backways through the video.
Works okay for internet gif files. Doesn't work on local ones (e.g. "file:///C:/animated.gif" ). Also, at the bottom of your eventPage.js file, was it really necessary to write "Hello"? (it throws an error...)
It's great but it looks outdated. Also ignore the "doesn't work" complaints, those people don't even BOTHER reading a single line of instructions.
Kind of works. When loaded from any "dynamic source" like our youtrack bugtracker, you have to hack the url and manually add ".gif" at the end. The extension doesn't care that there are lots of request params before, it just cares about the .gif at the end... Makes it unusable for me (too much manual work required before I can use it, and if you want to do this for many many pictures, this becomes a pain) if you only have straigt up .gif resources, then it will be fine.
Awesome extension, need a way to make it work with local files. Then it would be more awesome :) Currently I am uploading my local files to a site and opening them from there, It's time consuming and wastage of bandwidth. Also Would like it much if we could delete some frames from gif and save it as gif :)
Works as intended.
Works perfectly. For everyone having issues, check the URL. Imgur likes to use .gifv and other sites may use .webm.
POS, doesnt work.
Like the keyboard control - perfect!
doesn't work
I CANT FIND OR DELETE IT
Wouldn't work. POC.
Great app, need some work. 1) i don't want the move location slider to move if the mouse goes over the image, only if it goes over the location slider. 2) There needs to be away to get this to work with local files. 3) There are many images that this can't simply scrub for some reason. Bonus) I would like to see an open source version of this in github so we can port this to desktops.
Decided to install it despite recent reviews saying it doesn't work. Ended up working just fine.
doesn't work
i love it
It's very easy
does nothing. can not open extension. can not open "gif" file with it.
Can't find after installation
Does exactly what I want: pause an animated gif.
Beautiful. Does exactly what I want: controls playback of animated GIFs.
Love it! o(∩_∩)o
worked just fine.
It doesn't appear in the context menu, no new icon on Chrome's toolbar, and no any other sign that it's installed at all.
awesomeness!
DOESN'T SHOW ON BROWSER BAR
I installed it, but cannot find it, not even able to remove it. Even after a reboot, it doesn't show up in the right click menu.
This is a great tool! Is there a way to enable it for local files as well? Unless I'm missing a setting, it only works with files from the web, nothing from your local hard drive. We use animated GIFs at work for tutorials and bug reports, so this feature would be very helpful.
Currently Not working.
Pathetic!! ... not working ... nothing happens on mouse over ... unticked 'Start playing as soon as image loads'& saved but still no difference .. it starts playing .. installed n reinstalled gif scrubber ...still doesnt work ... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME INSTALLING IT ... wish i could give it 1/2 star. Wasted so much of my time trying different things to no avail.
lolol
Holy cow, this is cool
Really great extension. I found it ideally suited to helping me analyse 2d animations.
Very useful. Would be helpful if the extension opened another tab rather than a new window.
useful great fun
I've only seen it work once or twice (totally forgot I had it installed, because it doesn't work). It doesn't work on imgur. Useless. Removing.
Doesn't work for me: opened tab, dropped in gif no scrubber.
It's cool, new diffenition of fun.
it sucks
im gonna sound so stupid right now, but i have no idea where i can find this extension. dont tell me to go to the chrome menu, tools, then extensions because that wont help me open it so someone help me im so frustrated
Stopped working after a recent chrome update, was an awesome extension when it worked.
Trying to find something that turns off animated GIFs by default and allows me to play them if desired. This doesn't do that. Neat option to be able to play a GIF, but doesn't do what I want. Also doesn't recognize an animated GIF file if the filename doesn't have the GIF extension.
I can't see it after installing it. It does not appear when I right click on a .gif.
I want to pause the gifs on the page itself, not in a separate window
How Do you use this app on a Chromebook?????
Blossom
Great, simple, useful, works well. Lots of fun too.
Why can I not see the gif's I have already saved??? This should be an app,IMHO Andy
Loved it, really helpful with gifs that change with each frame.
really useful.
Really neat extension. For people who are having the problem of stalling at 99%: Go to your Chrome Extensions folder and find the folder for GIF Scrubber (mine was gbdacbnhlfdlllckelpdkgeklfjfgcmp). In that folder open scubber.js and change line 277 from: if (i > 1000) return false; to: if (i > 10000) return false; The problem was it is timing out too soon when extracting the frames. This changes it from 1s to 10s.
Love the idea! This is exactly what I need, but I need it to work on GIFs loaded on my hard drive. Also noticing that it hangs at 99% for some GIFs.
Fantastic little extension. There are 2 minor issues though: it sometimes hangs at 99% on some GIFs and it doesn't work with GIFs on your hard drive.
Hangs while extracting Solar Observatory Gifs. Downloads the gif, switches to extraction and when it reaches 99% extracted, nothing happens.
Really useful. An example of how I use it is if I'm on reddit and I open a gif, this will pop up and I have it set so it won't play until it loads. So now I can just open it in a new tab and then go about my business until it loads then watch it from the beginning.
Exactly what I needed to navigate a demonstrative gif on wikipedia. Thanks!
I like it. It helped me alot. But it makes pages load slowly. Specially web pages with lots of animated GIFs (even when images are in cache). I disabled the extension and it was fine again.
