This is a great idea, and I loved using it the first time. I had it layered with Ecosia so that every search and every new tab opened either planted trees or donated to charity. But I got a new laptop and was required to sign in to Tab For a Cause again. The sign in page says "choose a username," and it's the only sort of sign in page I can find. Of course, it tells me the username I'm trying to put in is taken (by me) and won't allow me to sign in. I'm not making a new account every time I need to sign in, so I'll no longer be using this extension. I'm not the only person who's had this problem, according to Reddit, but I've been unable to find a solution on the internet. I've tried deleting and redownloading the extension, but it hasn't changed. Additionally, I downloaded this extension originally because LegalEagle recommended it in his video on Roe v. Wade, and I wanted to help donate to women's rights organizations specifically and was under the impression I could choose which charities my tabs donated to, which as it turns out, I'm unable to do. Pretty disappointed.
Hank and John Green, who have a charity, have said that they do get a big lump of money every year from Tab for A Cause. So I seems legit. Also I use the notes on the side all the time. I would love it if there were options for even more ads! or more agressive/expensive ads like popups or videos. If those could make each tab have a little more value.
I've used this extension for a long time and would love to give it a higher rating but the recent trend of making certain charities locked behind their own tab opening section is very annoying, especially since theyre still in beta. I'd love an option to still donate to them while using the regular extension.
I have always loved this extension and what it does for people in need. I especially love how it lets you vote to chose what programs will be supported through charity as well. However, I've had issues lately where the tab screen says my adblocker (uBlock Origin) is on and preventing ads from appearing, when the adblocker is not on. So I feel like I need to disable this extension until this issue can be remedied.
Absolutely love the movement! It makes me smile every time I open a new tab!
Awesome app giving out to charity for doing something so simple on your computer. However, it's a blank, black screen for me after I switched to classic mode. It used to have beautiful backgrounds with customizable options. I uninstalled and reinstalled. That black screen is default? There are no options or buttons to change it. I can't even go into the settings like before. I've had this extension for years and had never experienced this.
Here from internet historian, steal my data for all i care its already being harvested so if its for a good cause then at least we wont be losing anything we havent already been in the process of losing for decades now lmao. Legitimately seems like a progressive orgo and we gotta support all of them we can. (we sniff u virtue signalers)
This extension helps me feel like MAYBE not all of my time on the computer isn't completely wasted.
It doesn't even let me sign in—I tried but the sign-in site just turned blank. Can't be used.
This extension is great but PLEASE make it available on firefox browsers too
Such a simple and easy way to earn money for charity! Everyone should have this extension installed. I love the way we get to customize our tab background! It is just perfect
In addition to supporting charity, the new homepage has beautiful full screen background images that are always changing. I would use this just for that homepage alone. I also like that it plays nice with AdBlock+ without having to whitelist the site, as in the ads still show and earn money even without whitelisting the site to allow ads.
I thought this was a great idea, however, I can not find the charities that I was told to pick from. I'm deleting it. Not user friendly.
this would be so perfect, a very useful and great idea, if it didn't log me out every single day.
Everything about it is amazing! I definitely recommend! ❤❤
There is no way to tell if this extension is actually earning any money from my using it. The newtab page loads from their website and the ads load from it. I usually navigate away from new tabs long before all that loads, so the ads don't actually display.
Not sure how you can make money just by opening tabs but would recommend if it truly does send money to charity!
great for libs who love individual responsibility and what not
I like the idea of it, but unfortunately I couldn't make it work with Ecosia like I can make Chrome work with Ecosia. With Chrome, I can just make Ecosia my primary search engine rather than Google and can just have it active in the background when I need to search up something. And I thought it would just register the tabs I open, rather than having to change my tab screen entirely. I can't even access the tabs I regularly use if I use Tabs for a Cause and that's a little sad since I open a lot of tabs on a daily basis. And these tabs I open and close almost hourly multiple times a day. It wouldn't be such a huge problem if I wasn't homeschooled, but I don't want to have to type in what I need every time I need it when I already have the frequent tabs for it on the tab screen I already use.
im late to this trend... https://tab.gladly.io/?u=Mr.Beast6000 pls :D
Love it.
Way to many trackers!
me as soon as i get this *OPENS 50MIL TABS*
It is basically saving the world by watching cat videos
It's amazing but kind of wish I had google, and i wish you could change the background but it's fine!
normally really good i love it but - CREATORS READ - when i click on a link from google often it will take me to yahoo.com and automaticlly have what i just searched up their. pls fix otherwise really great extention 10/10
Wish more people got on board! I know if universities advertised this to their students, money going to charity might double every time during finals period!
Great! Looks good, easy to use and you keep all your bookmarks! One tiny problem is that when you open a tab and immediately type in the search bar before the page has loaded it will delete your text when it loads. But! this rarely happens, and I would definitely recommend.
It was alright, but whenever I open a page in a new tab via right click or when the site automatically opens a new tab, it doesn't give me a heart for some reason. Other than that, it's pretty nice.
Great!
its a great extension just that i would like there to have shortcuts like normal google search thing
its amazing but sometimes it gets a little inconvenient at times because it logs me out then i have to log in again and stuff. still love it though
This is actually legit and really cool. I suggest it.
I absolutely love Tab For a Cause!! I love the generated webpage (with the nice background, place for a to-do list, and of course you can see how much money is being donated!) and really enjoy that my penchant for using waaaaay too many tabs is helping donate to charity! However, I'm switching to Firefox as my default browser and I'm really bummed that I can't download the extension there--I'm hoping that it'll get added there eventually because it's really the only downside I can see of switching browsers.
Awesome extension! The only thing that I hope you add is an ability to change the amount of ads you get per new tab to help earn hearts faster. You could have 1 ad and earn 1 heart every tab or you could have 10 and earn 10 hearts per tab. I hope you add this in an update, thanks!
Great extension my only complaint is that its limited to chrome and edge, it would help a lot more people if this was widen to include more browsers in the future.
-YAY! -A good cause doesn't try to fight with my "Ecosia Search Engine", it tells the time AND the weekday/date! (those are adjustable, open a new tab go to your right hand side press the three dots stacked up together and you can adjust not only your time widgets but also your search engine) -I love how you only need 6 hearts to donate! :D! 350 hearts just for inviting a friend! It has levels which gives me motivation....to open tabs! -They also have a tab thing for shelter cats but I dont know much about it! -SIMPLE but nice! You can also change your background from random daily pics to a color or one of your own. (RIGHT HAND SIDE three dots stacked on each other then go to background and choose what you like.) -In conclusion I LOVE THIS!
as someone that constantly has at least 50 tabs open i'm about to raise 'tabs for a cause' thousands lol
Making a change in the world for good
its better then the old new tab that google gives us, plus, we can donate to charity! thats the best part!
It's a pretty nifty extension, and does what it says. Ask for a new feature: I only wish I could find out how many hearts I donated to each charity. I care about almost all the causes and would wish to have a equal distribution for each of them. This should not be too difficult to add.
Easiest way to raise money! Great :)
I think this is a great extension, and the people behind it are truly doing a wonderful thing! One issue I have is that it doesn't seem to register the character "&". When you try to look up any phrase with "&" in it, anything after the character is also not registered in the search, so it only looks for terms before it. Honestly, that's just a nitpick though, and it doesn't really make searching any harder. Overall, great job!
It is a very good extension. I love it . I used it for some time but the thing is I can't sacrifice bookmarks bar on new tab page in chrome. Hope the devs understand this and find some solution.
Tab for a Cause still pops up when I open chrome, even after I removed it and deleted my account.
five stars for concept, goal, and execution. wasn't working for me at first (blank white screen), but just needed a minute and a couple new tabs to warm up i guess
It's really cool and pretty fun, raises money etc. until it stops working and just turns into a white screen.
This website is amazing I love just clicking a tab and knowing that I am saving lives !!
This is a great extension! It makes me feel good while online, and it's super easy to use. I love that you can choose which search engine you want to use, because I know different people like different search engines, so that's a really neat feature. Also, the backgrounds are very pretty and the ability to use your own photo(s) is helpful. However, I wish that there was a feature that told you how many hearts you've donated in total to each organization. Overall this extension is super amazing, and you should totally download it!
it is really good but I still need my shortcuts so can you guys make it have shortcuts, it will be a nice cherry on top a humongus and delicious cake
It works really well so far, I love that literally just opening tabs can raise money for charity, I love it. It doesn't change to a different search engine either, just a different Google screen, and it's customizable. I don't think I can recommend it more.
Very happy with this - love how easy it is to raise money for charities! Using this as well as 'search for a cause' to really double my impact. I wish there was a way to see how many hearts are donated like a live tally though.
Great, just wished financial statements could be accessed more easily
Wonderful idea and I enjoyed using it for a few years. However, as my laptop aged I realised that the most effective way of making Chrome quicker was disabling this extension. Suddenly Task Manager wasn't constantly at 100% CPU usage and everything was easier.
breaks every tab I open now. looks like they haven't bothered to update it in years to keep up with chrome. I'm looking else where's for a better tab. I highly doubt this this ever supported anything anyway.
I really liked having this on, but since new tabs staring having the tab for a cause url, I have been feeling frustrated. Wonder how this new "update" can be undone.
Loved this extension until the new tabs started having the "https://tab.gladly.io/newtab/" url display in chrome. Now half the time I accidentally search for that + my actual search term. Would be great if you could give the option to remove the url from the address bar like it was before.
New update causes new tab to overwrite the address, which overwrites what I'm typing when opening a tab and typing immediately.
this is a great way to donate money to organizations, i love how you can choose the organization that you donate to each time. i recommend tab for a cause! :)
Really good idea to raise money for charity while free for the end user, as advertisement money actually goes somewhere useful. How it works: The extension does not interfere with any web pages you visit, so don't worry about obtrusive/bombarding adverts as you can continue to browse the web (and use Adblockers!) without a problem. Instead, when you open a new empty tab, instead of displaying the normal empty-tab-page, your browser will show the Tab For A Cause control panel and display a few adverts in the bottom corner. Those adverts will trigger the payments form the advertisers and you rack up "hearts". Once you rack up so many hearts you can then choose which charity to donate to, which will determine where the advertisement money goes. Every advert hit is worth far less than 1 pence, so to raise more money, more people need to use it, simple as that. If you use an Adblocking extension, it does not affect Tab For A Cause because Adblock won't interfere with an empty tab. A few tips: • I use Brave browser instead of Chrome. It gives the same experience and works with Chrome extensions but blocks tracking scripts and some adverts (also get the Adblock extension to block obtrusive adverts, this won't interfere with Tab for a Cause!) • Get an extension called "Tab Reloader (page auto refresh)" if you want to refresh your tab every minute so Tab For A Cause can generate even more revenue (they will limit how many hearts you can earn in a day but at least you will hit the limit) • You can use your Google account to sign in. Multiple google accounts? Max out your hearts then sign in with another account. Raise more money for charity while advertisers pay to show you their useless junk you had no intention of buying anyway. • This extension will interfere with your browser's default empty-tab view. So if you need Chrome's/Brave's usual empty-tab control panels you need to turn the extension off.
Incredible app! SO many amazing things have been made possible effortlessly through this simple extension. that being said GET SUPPORT FOR MORE BROWSERS
love it just what are the purpose of the levels
awesome i can donate to charity whilst doing stuff online
it was great but they should make the search at the top left the beta search engine instead of google
Amazing, works with multiple search engines, allows you to donate to quite a few different causes. I highly recommend.
Love it! I found a fault in its heart idea, though. I just reload the new tab page and each time i get a heart.
Really great addition - without considering its charity work. This adds organization to the browser, seems difficult to operate without it.
Ok so i've seen some people asking how to get ecosia to work with tabforacause so what you have to do is go into the three dots in the corner, click on it and then click on settings. Then you scroll down and there is a section in widgets that asks what search engine you want to use and you can choose ecosia from there.
I want to get behind this... BUT -I miss my Chrome new tab bookmarks, the ones built-in are not good -I understand your color choice, but the magenta/pink/violet of it disagrees with me
What a great way to raise money for important causes!
This is a super awesome app. There are no real problems, it has pretty backgrounds and cute widgets that I don't really use but are nice to have anyway. In general it's such an easy way to help our world out. You literally don't even have to move. This is such an amazing idea and im so glad i found it :)
I love this extensing, however when i clear my broser history i have to resign in and re custimize it and it gets very anyyoing.
I wish the bookmark system was cleaner. I would LOVE to have 2 columns for bookmarks. One for things I use daily and think are important and another one that I can use to bookmark interesting things I find during research. That way I can keep my daily important bookmarks on top and still add bookmarks as I go without having to a extra time to organize them every so often.
I really love this extension because of all the good things that it does, however, I have to enable the extension every single time I log back into my laptop. Can somebody help me out with that? (By the way, it never did this before, it started doing this about a month ago.)
Wonderful idea. Really beautiful tabs, and for a great cause too. I love the transparency of the organization as well - they show exactly where their money is going.
Beautiful background photos, and the ability to passively donate to causes that are important to you - what's not to love? Some people don't understand enough about the internet to get that there are ads and they have to show up - that's the whole point. If they don't show, you're not donating anything, obviously.
Really love the page when it loads and love the whole purpose of it, but every single time I open a new tab it makes me sign in again and I have checked my settings. As much as I love this extension, having to login every single time is getting a bit frustrating. That is literally the only thing I don't like, so I do highly suggest trying it out!
I have spent like 20 minutes just searching up random things so I could donate more. It's just cool and I love it. So glad i heard of it.
Best extension ever and you raise money without having to pay money. I would rate it 100000000 stars if possible.
Wow!
I really like this extension, but today every time I open a new tab an empty file titled "download" automatically downloads to my computer. Not sure what is going on. Maybe there is a sketchy ad on the page right now? I really don't like or trust that and I hope tab for a cause fixes it soon.
I've heard a lot about it, and it is for a good cause, but it is slow, 4-5 seconds to show the home tab with the loading and fade-in animation. I really want to use it but I can't have this slow tab on a fast SSD drive. Sorry, I want to join but I also want fast tab opening.
This is great, but I don't remember how much one heart is worth. I can spam tabs though and it works well!
I've been loving this extension for quite some time but I wish there was a way to see where the background photos were taken, just like how Windows does it when you turn on your PC because most of the photos are really beautiful.
This extension is a great way to raise money from charity because we don't have to do much. just open a new tab and you will receive a heart. when you have enough hearts you can donate it to one of the charities recommended. I use this and search for a cause
Overall I do enjoy this extension but there's a few things I would like to change: I would like to have my bookmarks, notes, tabs all on the same page (or at least the ability to put them all on the same page). I would also like to see how many hearts I've donated to different organizations in the past. I think it would also be nice to have a place to send you feed back from the tab, rather then trying to find it in the chrome web store
Absolutely amazing and super simple.
Tab for a cause and search for a cause is an appslutley amazing idea and way to raise money for charity for doing nothing but use your computer as you normally would
I love the concept but I don't like the search engine itself and it seems a little old in presentation and I think what you could do is try to make it a bit more like google in the presentation
i love the concept
i really like it but when ever i open a tab i cant go to the frount page
DOES NOT HAve any support for my fellow firefighter brothers and sisters and does not have a charity option to support our men and women in blue
I am such a huge fan of this. It's such an easy way to be able to donate money, and all the widgets are so helpful! I highly recommend because it is so nice to have bookmarks, notes, and tasks right there. I do miss seeing the google doodle, but that's about the only thing.
Love the concept, but as a new tab its not great. Features I want: ability to select custom background directly from your drive, rather than a link quick shortcuts directly on the home screen, like the Default new tab in chrome. search bar in the centre, with search autocompletion, if possible.
good
Really easy way to help important charities. It's one of the few ways I can help financially as a minor. It works fine, and doesn't bring me to any weird/sketchy search engines. I open about 5-10 tabs daily (and that's before school has started up again) so that's about 5-10 cents daily. It might not seem like a lot, but the hearts add up quickly. The ads don't bother me much, it's not as big of a deal as people are making it. The only reason i rated it 4 instead of 5 is because i wish the loading was a tiny bit faster. But other than that, it's great
At first it worked fine but after a few hours the browser just became blank and served no cause
great idea no inconvenience at all
Tabs for a Cause is great in concept but completely falls apart when it comes time to donate the hearts you've collected. Nearly every charity on this extension is either ineffective or flat-out bad. Conservation International is yet another faulty environmental organization, the Human Rights Watch may have biases, GiveDirectly's method of combating poverty is inefficient, Water.org hasn't had any high-profile scandals yet but the long-term impacts of its methods may be bad, and the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck is literally fueled by YouTubers who really aren't the group of people I'd go to to freely select reputable and genuinely helpful charities. I could go on but I feel like this list makes my point. If the creators can't make it so that users can select the charities they want to donate to then I'd sincerely recommend that they either research the organizations they select themselves or approach activists, researchers, or really anyone who's familiar with major social/political issues for help with selecting who to donate to.
I really like it! The wallpaper is really cool and I normally don't use a lot on my now tab, but good to know that I am sub consciously donating to charity Sorry for the bad english
it is cool and a tab is donating some money for charity!
Its Great! I like how you can raise money for charity with something so simple as opening a tab! But I do not understand why there is a limit to how many hearts you can earn in a day, I open around 200 tabs a day and i stopped earning hearts at about 145.
I love the concept, and I like how its not annoying w/ the ads! just got a question, how much are the hearts? is 1 dollar donated, or 5? its just something im curio us about.
Not only is it for a good cause it also makes your browser look better along with this a also suggest the extension called search for a cause in that one everytime you search money gets donated to charity it is by the same people as this one
it cool and it help people in bad life :D
I've been using it for three years now and I can say it's a very great extension. It can raise a lot of money and the tab itself is very stylish. It would be nice if it could load tabs faster but everything else is absolutely great!
