Does not work. Plain and simple. More recent reviews reflect the same outcome....the only reviews claiming this extension works are old. The support section on here has countless unanswered messages from users asking for help to make this thing work. Obviously the developers no longer maintain this extension...or it is doing something behind the scenes like collecting data or whatever... in any event, it should be removed from the chrome webstore.... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Did not speak a word. Design of extension looked nice/well thought out. Should also add volume control. Testing multiple text-to-speech extensions, all others were able to speak.

No voice

This is a very good tool.but i found it cannot work since i update chrome to the new version.

Other then the service is down half the time it's a great little extension with some of the best & clearest speech.

misleading description or doesn't work. is it really has text to speech capability?

this product is unreliable. it only works when it wants to.

May rate better if I can get it working, but as installed did not work on my Win 10 Server.

SO far so good, still testing it out depending on how things go might rate over and give it full stars.

It has the best quality voice, but it can stop working at time and says the text was to long to play after you use it awhile. I'd pay for this if it would stay working, it's that good.

Not bad. I really like the Benjamin (HQ) voice. This extension may very well be a 5 star worthy. Only time will tell. I'll keep using it to see how well it holds up.

Needs more voice choices all the text to talk apps do big time

I have used this app for a few years and I am finally fed up with it enough to delete it. I have been lazy for a very long time and lived with it saying "service not available" or "the text is too long" when I have about 5 lines. the only reason I put up with this is because i had another way to get my text to speak but it took longer. texttospeech.c is what I use but it is slower for small lines or single word compared to this app. but this app works for me personally about 40/60 and I am fed up with it. Am not sure why it is not working for me but it has been a pain in the butt for a very long time and am done with it.

easy to use i like the feature to download the wav for reviewing a text offline the voice does not sound like a robot this is worth all 5 stars really good!!

Windows 10 with 16gb RAM and a fiber connection -- got "Service Unavailable." Just didn't work at all.

I am very picky when it comes to TTS voices, and while the British voices sound robotic, the US voices sound very natural to me.

Speed and volume options work well or me, but most importantly to me it has full support for emojis. Works great for my needs and I love that I can download the reading as a .wav too.

It seems to work well, thought the HQ voices cut in and out - I recommend using the standard voices. Why are there so many permissions for this app? Control over downloads?

Finally a text to speech extension that actually works and the voices sound great!

It works and it's a really helpful addon. However, it needs some improvement where its reading the header of a page and the lines after that as if it all one sentence without stopping. I guess it needs intuition.

easily best ive used. reads all pdfs , right click to read anything, and even lets u save as a wav file.

Best TTS plugin... until it completely stopped working about 2-3 weeks ago. Always says "Service Unavailable" now.

Was the best Ive used. Ufortunately it just up and stopped working one day.

Excellent product. I use it constantly and shared it with my 87 year old mother. Makes getting the news online so much easier for her.

better than other tts voice extension because it never stops itself accidently.

Please dont take it out of the web store like how speakit is gone!

This is the best Text-to-speech extension I have encountered. It pauses for punctuation (commas and periods, etc) and doesn't stop abruptly. It is also able to read multiple paragraphs without needing to select them all separately. I use the English Australian Woman's voice at a 1.3 speed. I use it for reading my online college chemistry textbook to me. I definitely recommend this extension!

Outstanding! Check the rest and then your shall have the same opinion. The are only two others close. This is by far the easiest and best.

Sometimes I get a "service unavailable" message when trying to use it. When it works, it's pretty good. Could use more features...etc. but at least it works sometimes. Most of the others don't work from moment one or work very intermittently.

almost perfect. if it can mix Chinese and English will be better.

Beautiful, this TTS is my favorite so far. its so difficult to get others to work I've tried allot of them, from speakit to the translation programs that just happen to include text to speach and they all have issues, yet this one is so smooth and has no problems, the voices sound really nice too, well done.

A play-pause button can be provided.

Some voices - like Benjamin - pronounce words strangely, e.g.: soles, was pronounced as Sol-ays and 'fingertip' is fingerdip most of the time apparently.

Love the extension, but it would be preferable if users could disable the yellow icon that pops up by the cursor. Would it be possible to implement this? I will come back and rate 5 stars if this is done. Thanks!

Very good voices - I've heard Braz. Portuguese, French and English from several countries ;o)) All pros no cons.

It's the best one out of all those that I have tried.

So far, this is exactly what I wanted. My only critique, which is minor, is that abbreviations are not pronounced correctly, such as "Mr." or "Mrs.". Otherwise, I really like this extension. Thank you.

Went thru alot of txt2speech software online and this is by faar the best quality!!!

I just went through about 7 different TTS extensions, all were buggy and unusable, this one is a lifesaver! Simple, and it actually works!

Best interface out there. I would prefer options for the different TTS voices out there as well as speed (volume?) options. Maybe an option to have the read icon not appear as well or appear only for large selections of text (e.g. not popping up for small highlights which are more likely copy/paste type things).

It's verrrry great,so nice,must be 5 star. just one suggestion, can you add the the TTS from operating system for it, So that I can be used by offline:)

ok, so this one is working so far. it's easy to change the settings and the voices sound natural, not so robotic. i just wish there was a female brazilian portuguese voice. in the future, maybe? =]

I love it. I use it to read light novels. I have tried many other ones and this is the only free extension that actually works the way it should.

Finally! I scored a tts that doesn't stop after a few sentences are read. Reads the whole page if you want.

Currently testing this TTS out. Common issues I find among TTS extensions is they abruptly stop reading and something in the text confuses the engine. Haven;t had this problem yet, but my fingers are crossed.

Best text reading extension on chrome. I have tried many other ones and this is the only one that actually works the way it should.

Works great. I wish there were more High Quality voices to select from, but the English (US) female voice is very good. As other mentioned, a hotkey would be a great additional feature.

very useful, I used English (Australian) and Cantonese (Danny) to read the news, it worked perfectly that I never have had such good experience before, I love it and will share with my friends. Hope the voice of UK can be modified because it was an awful voice.

Works as described for reading selected text on a page. Downloading the .mp3 file to the audio does not seem to function as designed, but downloading audio was not my intention for the use of this app/extension. When using on a desktop system, it is easy to select the text and click on the image to begin reading the text. However, I found that it was more difficult while using my tablet to get the icon to appear after selecting the text to be read. I hope that they add a "hotkey" function to begin and end the reading in a future release. I would suggest to at least try this app/extension if you want to be able to select text and have it read to you. I have used it on .pdf, html, and even while in Google docs; all which read perfectly fine.
