Have problem when try to sync between fauxbar in Brave and chrome by cloud
It doesn't work
Wow' It work
Great work dev.
Twice today the extension has become "corrupted"..
I've been using this Extension for a week now. It doesn't work as firefox address bar works. First of all, it is slower than expected. secondly, address bar Google search doesn't always take you to Google, instead takes to a webpage if the name somehow matches with the query. Thirdly, not always it shows result. For instance, I have some ip addresses I have to go like 192.168.0.105:4444 or 192.168.0.108:4444 etc. But when I type 105 or 108, it is supposed to show 192.168.0.105:4444 or 192.168.0.108:4444 but most of the time, it doesn't. But I wanna thank the dev for making it. I hope, it will improve more with time.
I have many Custom search engines in Chrome but Fauxbar shows only the 4 default search engines. Do I miss something? When Fauxbar doesn't have the ability to show them after scanning this is completely Useless for me.
Really good speed dial. Job well done. Big Thanks to the author. Any ideas when/how tiles thumbnails update? Some are blank for me, some tiles show site previews.
50 caliber, Fauxbar is one of the best Bookmarks and Extensions I ever used.
A brilliantly useful tool – thanks! *** Issue 1 *** When typing characters in the Fauxbar Address Box, it returns hits for bookmarks marked “Error: URl malformed” (it matches on the substring “URl malformed”). So when I type “med”, it highlights all “URl malforMED”. Can you change this behaviour? PS: The “Error” bookmarks are those with embedded “%s” which are compatible with another Chrome extension that has the ability to substitute %s with address bar text provided as a search string. *** Issue 2 *** On the Fauxbar page, sub-menus for Bookmarks and Extensions are not visible or accessible: when you hover over - or click on - an entry containing a sub-menu arrow icon you can see about 1mm of the sub-menu's left hand border showing just left of the main menu's vertical scroll-bar. It's as if the sub-menu is hidden under the vertical scroll bar (though of course it's expected that the sub-menu should pop up over / to the right of the scroll-bar). The sub-menu pops up correctly for all menus where the menu has no scroll-bar, and does not pop up for any menu where the menu does contain a scroll-bar.
A very good alternative to Chrome's default New Tab Page. There is one issue that I've been having though that stopped this from getting five stars: Every time I open a new tab, I have to try and figure out where it opened because it pops up in a random location at one of the ends. Please fix.
No improvement. Chrome still looks like Chrome. Worthless. How do you uninstall? (Not an obvious option.)
The best solution for history searching in Chrome.
I use this for fullscreen mode. Many thanks. Just alitle bit look doesn't so nice interface
Excellent extension, keep up the good work! The feature to switching to a tab when is opened and closing Fauxbar is the best and it keeps me from opening the same page many times when I am lazy to find it in between opened tabs. Cheers.
Nice overall, Though I had a lot of problems with it so far : - Sometimes when I click on the Search box, the cursor keeps flashing between the search bar and the URL bar exhausting the CPU as a result.
Makes chrome great to use, really happy with the results!
Loved it...until it stopped indexing my browsing history. I tried reinstalling, reindexing, etc. It still says 0 history items are indexed. No way around it.
Finally, this is what I have been looking for, for my switch to chrome
Pretty good! But consider changing the faux's image since everytime I open new tab I feel like there are xhamster's tiles all over the place lol
I'm transitioning to Chrome from Firefox, and found the Chrome omnibar poor for finding URLs I was looking at earlier on in the day.. this fixes that problem right off the bat. Great work Chris!
Really Really handy!
i had to install about 20 crappy start page addons until i stumbled upon this hidden gem everything i need is here the simplicity and powerful customization well done gents
This was the best, and because its now updated it IS the best! I'm gonna try it out and dude don't be shy to ask for donate, because it is very useful
It's great, but! Has plenty of options, though all I really want is to be able to start typing a search query into the URL bar and have it NOT always automatically 'I'm feeling lucky' me and take me straight to a surprise website instead of actually searching. Instead I have to wait several seconds for it all to load, then click the search bar or the URL bar at the top. Still not enough to make me go back to firefox.
Excellent no question, but doesn't actually work in the address bar. No doubt that's chrome's fault, but it's extremely disappointing.
IT A VIRUS
Bad
I’m not sure but I think that https://code.google.com/archive/p/fauxbar/issues is shutdown. Someone forked it to Github here: https://github.com/ChrisNZL/Fauxbar Anyone know the exact Fauxbar frequency scoring options to get as close to the Firefox awesome bar as possible? I personally can’t figure out the frequency settings yet. I want history items to go to the top after only a few revisits. Also, if you select in Firefox something after typing “res”, I think that it gets a bonus for other shorter searches. If I then type “re”, it’s more likely to appear because I selected it after typing “res”. After selecting an item after using “re”, it’s more likely to appear in the list that comes after typing “r”. I made it so that there are 30 results. After I press one letter, an item shows up at #28. I repeatedly press the letter, select the item, close the tab, press the letter, select the item, close the tab, in the history item never rises to the top like in the Firefox awesome bar.
love it , as i can go to the site i usually use
I don't like this.
It doesn't work for me. It gives an error when indexing
its cool now i can download unity and play all types of games!
Its not the same as Firefox, removed.
I was having an issue for a while in regards to adding new search engines via right-click, but it seems to be working now. I was an avid Firefox user, and I miss Awesomebar, but this helps bring some of that functionality to Chrome. Absolutely best new tab replacement.
This makes Chrome usable!
Extremely disappointing that it can’t import my many custom search engines from Firefox...or even from Chrome which has already imported them! Effectively this makes it useless in the short term as I have lots of better things to do than manually recreate them all.
THIS IS THE BEST NEW TAB PAGE I CAN HAVE/ SIMPLE AND NON-DISTRACTING. -PUNEET
Does not activate automatically on incognito pages (the Chrome banner seems to override it). Got an error while initially indexing.
I'll tell the truth.I.for the most part,am a pure Firefox user. The versatility is unbeatable.I use Chrome purely for uploading large files.Firefox for whatever reason does not handle this function well.To me Chrome is just too stripped down. But Fauxbar goes a long way toward correcting these deficiencies.Beside Lastpass and uBlock this is the must have for Chrome. It truly is a must have.Kudos to the developer. He(she?) did a fine job!
I hate the omnibar.
for some reason dam thing keeps enabling and disabling its self giving me loads of notification popups which is starting to get rather enoying. This keeps up it will be getting deleted! but i do like that its customizable and you can have an animated background which is a nice look
A must for Firefox migrants or anyone who can't find recent history using the Omnibar. Minus one star for not properly escaping my bookmarklets.
Bravo! This takes Chrome to a whole new level.
Open source and pretty good. Needs some annoying bugs fixed - see the Google Code page.
I really liked this program but for the past 2.5 months there is an unresolved issue where an error is presented regarding thumbnail files that are invalid. Reinstalling doesn't work. In fact the error slows down the browser performance. I have 3 other computers and 2 of them with the same issue. I'm now uninstalling learning chrome's default omnibox search engines and maybe later I'll revisit if fixed.
Update 2014-Feb-02: I didn't end up uninstalling because I still found Fauxbar so useful, despite the Restore problem. I located the options and saw how much lovely, thoughtful functionality has been put into this Add-on. My main complaint (and reason for original low rating) still stands: that Fauxbar suppresses Restore for the Chrome user for whom Fauxbar is installed. Fortunately, the Tabs Outliner add-on, which I had installed on the same Chrome user prior to installing Fauxbar, saves the user's URLs when Chrome quits or crashes. It occurs to me now that it's also possible that an interaction with Tabs Outliner itself is causing this behavior. I think the Chrome instability I mentioned before is just the memory limitation of Chrome. It was the same slowing and crashiness I see when I have too many tabs open, and I had a lot of tabs open at the time. Adding Fauxbar probably just pushed me over that threshold. Therefore, I'm upgrading my rating from * (lost Restore functionality, missing options) to **** (found the "missing" options, plus many more useful features; and giving benefit of the doubt regarding Restore and Tabs Outliner), but still reserving a star because Fauxbar still should play nicely with Tabs Outliner. Original review 2014-Jan-30: Wanted to love this! Fauxbar solved one serious problem (Chrome Omnibox always wiping out my typing if I accidentally hit the right-arrow) at the expense of creating another. When Chrome crashed, I didn't get the Restore Tabs option anymore for the user that Fauxbar was installed on. It's been ages and versions ago since Chrome failed to give me a Restore Tabs prompt after a crash, and since I only installed Fauxbar an hour ago, I'm placing the blame on Fauxbar. I routinely work with 50+ open tabs, so this is an unacceptable risk, unfortunately. Had to uninstall. If not for that problem, I'd use Fauxbar and give it 4 or 3 stars. Chrome seemed to slow down and get unstable after installing Fauxbar, but maybe people who don't have 100 tabs open at a time like I do wouldn't see that problem. Really nicely done overall. Some wishlist items: - (UPDATE: I see now that this option is available in Options) I search the web about 100x more often than I search previously visited pages or bookmarks, so I would prefer that the Search Engine field would be the default text field when opening a new tab, rather than the Search Bookmarks/History field. I keep opening a new tab and starting to type, expecting to search the web, and having to reposition the cursor and start over. It slows me down a lot the way it is now. - Rather than sacrifice the available space for either of the text fields by splitting it horizonally between them, why not provide them stacked vertically so they can take advantage of full screen width? Then the user could see all of a longer search query, as well as all of a longer URL. - I loved the option to search from my history and bookmarks separately from the Web search; it would be even better if I could restrict search to just bookmarks or just history! Thanks very much to the Fauxbar developers for their efforts to solve some of Chrome's more annoying shortcomings, and for sharing the fruits of their work for free. Fauxbar v 1.4.0 Chrome v 32.0.1700.76 m)
This is truly awesome - fills the one major feature gap that exists in chrome (omnibox) relative to firefox (awesomebar). As another reviewer put it quite nicely - gives you the "best of both worlds" in one browser.
Great extension! I would rate 5 stars if it had the SHIFT + ENTER (to complete ".net" addresses) and CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER (for ".org") shortcuts as in Firefox. The CTRL + ENTER for ".com" still works, so thanks!
SUPERBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!
The only thing keeping me from switching to chrome full time is the awesomebar that firefox has. The awesomebar is simply superior to the omnibar of chrome. This extension brings all that and quite a few extra goodies and options to chrome. I have the best of both worlds now!
superb add-on and the developer..
yep me too, with recent update, chrome starts then as fauxbar tab starts chrome disappears. The easy way to get chrome going is to click on a link from outside chrome which then opens a none fauxbar tab, you can then switch off the "Override Chrome's New Tab button" option. This only works if chrome is the default browser! Still 5 stars.
READ THIS before you rate: the Fauxbar no longer grabs focus on a new tab page. After some sleuthing, I found out that this is a result of bug #243102 of Chromium, which deals with new tab pages unable to grab focus. The Chrome/Chromium team dropped the ball on this; this isn't Fauxbar's fault. I'll keep the 4-star rating until this issue meets its end.
Currently of limited use as last chrome update stopped it having focus on creating a new tab. Needs fixing.
After chrome updated, it fails to get focus, killing the utility of the addon.
I've been missing Firefox's address bar UX ever since I made the switch to Chrome. Great extension. Update: OK, I'm going to uninstall this extension for the reason that I'm getting incredibly frustrated at the fact that there's a small delay till you can start typing after opening a new tab. I want to use this extension but it's not worth reprogramming deep-ingrained muscle memory.
Simply the best!! Pseky chrome does not suggest most of the urls from my bookmark. Fauxbar is the best!!
Two great addons. One is the start page. The other is the omnibox results algorithm. Done well
Well, I was skeptical when I read that it doesn't replace the omnibar, but after installing, I believe this is exactly what I needed. Couldn't be happy. Good work Fauxbar!
Fantastic, fixes my main problem with Chrome - its terrible search bar!
I always found it unbelievable that a company whos bread-and-butter is searching can provide such a sub-standard search experience in chrome. Fauxbar does exactly what omnibar should...
I tried Better Omnibox, but found it did little to improve the omnibar the way I wanted it. As a firefox migrater I was really gutted by Chromes lack of customization. As a Peers addon user in firefox, I've wanted similar functionality with Chrome. Fauxbar accomplishes much of it, and very cleverly seeing as how limited Chrome addons can be. I wish that the addressbox and searchbox were combined. I like the search results mixed with my history.
This extension really brings the AWESOME (bar) to Chrome.
This is the one thing I missed the most about Firefox when I switched to Chrome. Searching for parts of a URL or page title in the Omnibar never returned what I wanted, but Fauxbar solves everything.
Works well, would like the option to revert to the default Chrome startpage (as a menu option). No matter when image I select the Page Background is not set to it although the options and web site clearly state it will be. I've tried from 1px up to full screensize images, none work..... Would like an option to use the Bookmarks verses recently visited.
Amazing! thanks to dev
This made me switch to Chrome sooo much better. Thank you, guys!
This is great. And I love the option to only return results from bookmarked pages (and exclude history).
As an ex-Firefox convert the ability to use custom search engines was a big drawback to using Chrome. I am still trying to figure out how to load this at start, and I would like to see video tutorials for new users. Overall a great functional solution for power users.
Love it!
Liked the premise of the extension, didn't like the popup warnings it kept spewing out even after supposedly disabling warning messages. I don't care about the thumbnails, so I didn't want to go through the hassle of deleting my "CURRENT" file from the Chrome directory... but apparently Fauxbar REALLY REALLY wants you to delete your CURRENT file.
Tried most (or so it seemed) of the alternatives to new tab page(s) and easily prefer Fauxbar to the others. Great, simple design - features are well thought out and easily accessed.
It's nice but it takes 200MB of memory usage, that's just insane.
