I can't really tell the difference of text with or without the extension. What I can notice (after a long troubleshoot to find the source of the problem) is that having this extension active disables YouTube subtitles' character edge style. Whichever style I click, it's not applied to the subs. Now that I disabled this extension, I finally have the character edge style applied to the YouTube subs again. I'll be uninstalling this extension now.
Font Rendering Enhancer is very good but it makes certain fonts e.g. emoji from Segoe UI Emoji look bad. The developer should add some "Exclusion list" for certain fonts e.g. emoji fonts so they are not touched at all in the browser.
总体不错,不过个别的应用上会渲染有点问题,比如 bilibili 的弹幕会丢失描边效果。另外似乎设定存在云上,导致没法针对 mac 和 windows 分别设置有点尴尬
Great
Just works! I was reading some abominable website with gray text on white background and turning on this extension made a very noticeable difference. Highly recommended for others who hate this "gray text" trend in web design!
!!!problem!!! please fix it !! When I type in google search bar and the word is misspelled the text gets distorted!! please fix this thanks.
This makes the text hinting on Chrome match that of other browsers and other apps such as Word and Excel. For those who spend a lot of time doing work on our computers, I highly recommend it.
Love it but has a major flaw, if you watch YouTube videos and you've subtitles on, and assuming that you're not a monster and you do have Drop Shadow enabled in the subtitles settings. This extension will somehow magically kill the drop shadows, making it an annoyance to use. I wish if the dev can add a method to exclude YouTube specifically from it's rendering.
This helps a little bit wish it made text black.
Outstandingly brilliant. This should be included with Chrome. Set the slider to around 50-60, and you almost can't even tell the difference between this and Firefox (or any other non-Chrome-based browser) unless you open them side-by-side.
The rendering effect is excellent !
The Windows-10 Microsoft Edge browser just did a major update to be more like the Chrome browser. I've never used Chrome, but upon complaining about the weak/light fonts in the new Chromium-based Edge, helpful members at TenForums.com let me know that coming to the Chrome Web Store and downloading the Font Rendering Enhancer extension would make forums, Twitter, Google Search, etc.. pages look more like they do in Firefox, and the Legacy (non-Chromium) Edge browser. It works great! Twitter pages opened side-by-side in Firefox and Edge now look identical. :-) It's perplexing that Chromium browser developers would allow weaker/fainter fonts in the first place. They must be young, with excellent sight, and oblivious to how the global population is aging and in need more contrast between the text and the background.
So far I am happy using this extension I can actually see the difference in the text being much nicer to look at compared to before I installed this and I can easily see that my eye's will greatly benefit from using this gem of an extension with out a doubt, so thank-you! Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --flag-switches-begin --default-tile-height=1024 --default-tile-width=1024 --enable-fast-unload --force-gpu-rasterization --enable-tab-audio-muting --enable-zero-copy --gpu-rasterization-msaa-sample-count=16 --num-raster-threads=4 --tab-capture-downscale-quality=best --tab-capture-upscale-quality=best --enable-features=DownloadResumption --flag-switches-end
Extension needs an update - Currently it breaks the proper rendering of emojis on many web pages (like Facebook). In the past, it has definitely helped with darkening the text (be sure to adjust the font width slider in the 'Options' page - I used a value of 30 on my system).
Breaks emojis. Emojis on webpages all turn dark and unviewable once this is installed.
good job by dev. this addon should be stock feature of Chrome.
10 out of 10, would Install it again. I am using the latest opera and I had to use an extension to an extension I already had installed since forever but now with chromium engine it was gone :( Ty for your commendable work sir!
You don't actually know about this extension do to you, it helpssssss way to much if you have a nitch of clued, well hint* hint* hint* it helpps you from being hackeddd networking folio numeric and alfabet xequala prevention mostly alfazet????!!!!!!!//////
I was very hopeful that Font Rendering Enhancer would work for me because I use Chrome a lot. However, installing it made no difference even though I moved the font width slider from 0% to 100% and back again, and refreshed pages after each slider movement. Web sites checked included Wikipedia (which normally looks just fine), hackernews.com (which uses quite faint text; mentioned at contrastrebellion.com), and Google search results. BTW, the extension was last updated in 2014. The web store says the extension is compatible with my device. Am I doing something wrong?
Feature request: Please exclude SPAN class="_6qdm" on facebook.com from text enhancer. It's darkening the smileys. Thanks.
How do you activate this? I moved the bar to 40 and nothing happened. I hate Google Chrome for making me waste my time on this! WHo ever thought of light gray text on light gray background???!!!!!
Makes a visible difference
Thank you very much. I don't know what is wrong with both Windows and Chrome that the fonts are choppy everywhere and this extension solved this.
Doesn't do much for my fonts, but does black all emojis on Facebook (turning them into solid black circles) on my Chromebook. So no.
Absolute night and day difference from stock Chrome OS font with 1080P TV as monitor. Thanks so much. I was close to giving up on Chrome OS as a windows 10 replacement but this add on has changed my mind.
It do nothing with font rendering. Until you reload the page.
This is great extension which makes the text pop out darker and clearer I noticed recently that there is a black overlay covering the emoticons on Facebook (disabling the extension fixes this)
Amazing!
does what it is suppose to
I'm a believer. Makes every website (including my own) look much better.
It actually works.. It's only subtle, but makes a huge difference.
Make everything clearer. Been using for years
Useful, but can you make the font even darker ,MORE BLACK (and maybe also THICKER), more visible and more enhanced? And only in the choosed sites/pages ,saved pages in a list, not in every pages/sites ...
Thank you author helped me with my everyday work!
I used this extension to solve a problem with Dynamics CRM Notes appearing with a white text. It changed the font to one that is readable.
Makes the fonts on Chrome a lot clearer for me. Thank you!
Makes fonts look much better. They turn from thin light fonts, to a richer, thicker, darker font. Don't forget when you install this extension that you must either refresh the page you have open, or just close, and reopen Chrome, for the extension to work.
hopeless. chrome will never imorove
did not work
Just Amazing! fonts and everything is bold, dark and easier to read. I love this extension so much, thank you!!!
Great font enhancement!
Finally I can read texts on Chrome for Windows with the same level of comfort I do on other browsers.
It works on Chrome 61. It saves my eyes. Thank you.
Thanks for making the web slightly easier to bare with my eyes
This extension is an only way for me read Chrome rendering especially after Firefox.
Works great on a UHD 4K display....
love it
Highly recommended. Which makes the otherwise dull Chrome fonts on Windows to look smoother!
Works well on horrid grey text
Finally! This extension fixed perfectly my font rendering issue on Chrome Windows
Much clearer text is possible with this extension. Awesome!
Great
Magnificent! Just what I was looking for! The reason I couldn't get into Google Chrome was because of the hideous font width, which strains my eyes from reading. This add-on renders the font just like my favorite browser, Firefox! Thank you!
I have problems with my vision and when I make the font larger so I can see it, the font width tends to become smaller. I can finally read things without having to highlight the text.
Loved it. Won't be able to go back to the default font rendering.
I am so glad to finally found this extension after spending months reading frustratedly with the light text display of the chrome search result. Thank you so much developer for helping us all out!
I was about to leave Chrome for good, since I upgraded my monitor and that made everything smaller and blurier. I was actually thinking of switching to MS Edge. But then I discovered this! I can't believe I haven't used this before!
Useless! Didn't do a single thing, even after making adjustments on the slider.
With Chrome 52 disabling DirectWrite, this little extension makes text clear again. A+ to A+
It's amazing that even though ClearType (which has been around since Windows XP) still isn't supported by Chrome in 2016. Fonts look great in FF but not in Chrome. Thankfully I finally stumbled upon this extension. It makes text in Chrome look so much better. Shame on you Google for not fixing this.
Before Chrome fixed the issue, this one saves life.
nice Google should render fonts like mac osx
Can you please provide options to control the darkness/contrast of the text? I would like the default darkness I have before installing this extension, but with the rendering and thickness I get from this extension.
the last piece missing in chrome! wow!
Chrome text rendering sucks! but this makes it better, thanks ?
Did not work for me. First, it was not clear you had to adjust a setting (thought it auto-adjusted for you), and second, it did not make any difference even after I played with the settings. The jagged fonts in Chrome is more of a problem with the browser, but this extension did not solve that problem as it claims to.
i simply drag font width to 100 and enjoy the best looking fonts ever. thank you. i'd never use chrome without this extension!
I've always found Google Chrome's text to be harder to read than an example Internet Explorer's text. This app solves the issue.
I have discovered how to use this tool. Find the tool by clicking the 3 bars on the right side in the browser toolbar and hit "more tools." Click "options" and drag the font width slider over to the right side, I have mine on about the 75% level. Although it does not say so, it makes the text darker and easier to read rather than the font being bolder such as other extensions do. With the extension Stylish you can install styles to force "big black bold" text which bolds everything which I find distracting. Font Rendering Enhancer works best for me since it just darkens the text and makes it readable. Some web pages such as this webstore page have hard-to-read grey passages on a grey background and extensions don't improve every webpage, but this extension does improve most. Very sincere thanks.
Must go into options and increase font width, otherwise effect is barely noticeable. Max it out and the effect is very noticeable :)
Still allows gray-on-white style; the most idiotic concept since Al Gore invented the interwebs. NoSquint should get going on this "Chrome" thing, in case of the unlikely event that it catches on. Firefox FTW.
great but please, please implement a feature to limit it to only certain sites. like user can make a text list in the options, would be enough I only have 1 site where I really need it, but on that site I really do need it.
Although it only provides about half the improvement in readability of High Contrast, it lacks all the bugs which make the alternative unusable. An absolute necessity. Would rate five stars if it included options to adjust manually for better personal performance.
Improves readability on pages that for some reason decide to go with light grey text on a white background. Would be nice if had more options to adjust.
My eyes thank you!
It works really well on all pages, except Google play store, in which fonts are still very faint.
Great extension solving hard-to-catch issue with font. My switching to chrome is going easier. Thanks a lot.
Great little script that makes reading text online a lot easier. However, it tends to cause the screen to jump to the top if it has not finished rendering by the time you've begun to scroll away. This is somewhat irritating as you have to wait a second or two for it to finish it's process first. Otherwise deal with having to scroll back to where you were. It's not a big deal, and nothing the creator can do to fix it as this is caused by Chrome, not the script. I give this script a perfect 5/5 stars.
A+
Good, but please make SMALL font rendering less muddy
should be built in for Google Chrome. It gives internet pages better and clearer looking
Thank you so much for this! Chrome's font are hurting my eyes even after the directwrite update. This improves the font a lot! Highly recommended
Simple yet excellent, text is clear and darker. Thanks
Works really well, text on web pages looks far cleaner to read, a must have extension.
For some reason Google Chrome displays text as "jagged" and "blocky" by default. This simple, small, and easy to install extension for Google Chrome fixes that issue. I highly recommended this extension.
The best. Google should learn from this!
Excellent! My ancient work computer is still running XP, and even with ClearType turned on, Chrome's text looked horribly jagged. This renders the text beautifully, as it should be!
Looks better.
Every since the new chrome began to be incompatible with mactype, this is my best choice for a better font rendering. Thanks a lot.
My school went to Chromebooks and I was hesitant. I've always used Firefox, and one of the reasons was that the fonts were always tack sharp. This extension makes Chrome's fonts as clear as any other browser's, and makes it usable for me. Now I am even using Chrome on my home computer. Thanks for this gem.
Chrome's fonts looked a bit off and hurt my eyes to read. This fixed that issue and now makes the font rendering some of the best I've seen. Thank you!
Very very Useful. Thanks for making this :)
Perfect!
Only reason because I using IE was great fonts. Now I have this on Chrome. Thanks!
you deserve 6 stars. did you bring font rendering page down from opera site?
Works perfectly!
