From September 12th, 2021 to April 5th, 2023, 60% user give 5-star rating, 14% user give 4-star rating, 11% user give 3-star rating, 6% user give 2-star rating, 8% user give 1-star rating. for Language Reactor chrome extension.
This is a fantastic extension. I can't imagine why some people give one star rating.
This extension is one of the only sources I've been able to find with pinyin subtitles (mandarin). I love it!
Makes language learning much more fun. Very easy to use. It would be more helpful for me though, if any numbers/digits were translated as words rather than numbers (ie. "three-hundred" instead of "300", or "forty-third" instead of "43rd"). Couldn't fault it otherwise.
Best double subtitles extension for Netflix, thank you so much.
After 15ish years of language study, this is by far the best method. Follows linguistic theory of "Comprehensible Input" and is a blast. A lot of great functionality too; if your considering using this extension, consider grabbing a VPN too, if you want to be able to access more shows to study/binge.
I had been dreaming of finding a way to do HALF of the things this extension can do. This is amazing.
It does it's job well, but it prevents 4K videos from loading on youtube. Where the video loads, it plays extremely slowly.
Wonderful extension. I have been usign to practice shadowing and pronunciation.
This is an excellent extension. It means I can watch films in my target language, with subtitles in both my target language and my native language.
Hi, I love your extension. I want to suggest a feature. I want to see subtitles only in list view. I don't want to see it on the video. Would you consider putting an option for that in the settings?
The Korean subtitles are missing. It appeared only after I downloaded LR. When I stop watching and try to re-watch Netflix, the Korean subtitles are missing. Tried the "Fix" button, but nothing happened.
it's really super effective. We want the same version of the same on netflix to come within the UDEMY platform. we students will be very pleased.
I've been studying Spanish almost two years with Duolingo. But finding the GOOGLE Language Reactor has completely changed my skills and understanding of my new language! I love the ability to watch a Netflix movie or YouTube/Ted Talk video with subtitles, and many more features - I can save words, set my skill level, pause the playback, rewind, and much more! I think anyone wanting to learn a language should put this extension on. Just perfect!
내 인생 최고의 앱
It's legit perfect...and it's free...
It's a good extension, but the fact that the settings don't save or sync to your account makes it unusable. I have my chrome set in my target language for learning, so the extension keeps changing shows to english even though i'm learning spanish. If it either saved my settings or used the settings from language reactor then it would be resolved.
Outstanding!
we cant adjust opacity
It is nearly perfect for my needs. I am using it for conversational Icelandic and despite the few titles on Netflix from Iceland, it has been very helpful. Main gripe: The word translations are stymied by special characters so any word with an á, é, í, ó, ú, ð, ö, or þ doesnt benefit from word-specific translation. But otherwise, it has been very useful.
I've only tested the extension with YouTube so far but it does exactly what I was looking for! Super helpful for learning languages! Fantastic work, kudos!!
Even if it's not perfect, it's incredibly helpful with language learning. Thank you for sharing your hard work for the betterment of others!
It provides 2 subtitles in different languages, but it lies when it says its using a "human translation". The translation, at least for German, is the exact same that Netflix provides. This is not a literal translation of what is heard in German audio. This is fine if you speak the language well enough, but for total immersion or new learners. Another complaint is that it really only works in netflix and youtube. Hulu, Disney, HBO, Paramount, Peacock, etc...tons of other regularly used services have 0 support.
Works well except for the subtitles are too tiny to read, and changing the font size in the settings does nothing. Edit: I had to disable all other Youtube extensions, and then the font size worked.
I like it, it's helpful. But there's one thing, i have to pay in order for me to mark the words i wanna learn or mark it as known. I used the extension for a long time, so it's obvious that I have to know some words that I had marked as unknown at that time, since I now know those words I can't mark them as known because i have to pay for that. it bothers me a lot
While Language reactor is probably the best app of its kind, I was aggressively advertised to about their Christmas sale, it popped up in every single on one of my 8 opened tabs in Chrome. Their x button did not work and I had to fully refresh every page that it had appeared to get it to close. This was enough to make me uninstall it.
Стали выскакивать большие таблички в окне ютуба, перекрывающие всё и вся.
90% of the subtitles in Arabic don't export. The translation is there but the Arab text only provides a few words here and there. Someone please fix that.
Great, but recently, nothing has been translating to English when I watch videos with Spanish subtitles. It will translate to other languages, but English doesn't work anymore. I need this in order to study Spanish!
The way his extension works seems to get a bit tricker with each update. For example, I want to start from ZERO and I want to add every word I know as I come across it. I don't want your software to decide what words I don't need to learn. I watch 1 film, I add all the worlds i know, I then watch a 2nd film and it tells me there's 900 words I don't need to learn, but these don't line up with the words i have already marked as 'known'. Some of the settings are also unclear: "Show suggested words in orange" - how are you working out what words to suggest? I want to learn all words I don't know. "Darken rare words" - seems pointless "Outline marked words in text" - marked by whom? No idea what this means I just want to use subtitles, and to be able to differentiate between known words and unknown words, but the developers seem intent in creating some sort of unique system and adding useless features. I don't care about rare words or suggested words, known and unknown are the only differentiators required. Please add the simple ability for us to track words like this.
super useful lo demas depende de mi
A great utility
Love it! Great dual sub and study language extension!
The best and useful chrome extension everrrr!
Unbelievably good. Highly recommended.
BEST EXTENSION EVER FOR LANGUAGE LEARNERS
It's the best extension to quickly learn languages while enjoying the content. If used right, it will really make a difference. I've been studying Chinese for ~8 months and my level has gone up fast. The only thing that I don't like is that you can't manually input a font in the settings, and only 2 things show up, so you can't, for example, change the Chinese font to KaiTi.
uno strumento eccezionale per migliorare le tue capacità di comprensione.
Was thrilled to find this, I love it, occasionally a small hiccup but nothing major, I use this every time I watch netflix!
This is simply amazing!
This is amazing for practicing your listening for foreign languages. I use it everyday! Every language learner needs to have this extension--seriously. It's free!
I can't believe I find out about this only now. This is amazing and it's helping me a lot while learning dutch!
I love it. It's very useful for me. But sometimes it doesn't work.
This extension is really good for learning Chinese and I will be using a lot with netflix. Only thing I have found that doesn't work as intended is the Anki export for saved phrases etc. The CSV export however does work so was easy to work around.
It's really not a bad app, but, on YouTube, you're sacrificing the video progress bar, which I use, so I had to remove the extension
This tool is AMAZING. Everything I've been possibly looking for to learn chinese while watching TV, I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Can't believe everything I was looking for already existed, so excited to use this!
great for 2 subtitles works well, gathers all the words and lets you save them, nice 10/10
it is great but i think it crashes on youtube page lately.
its the best one of its kind , i wish saving words was available to all users ,a certain number of words maybe
So far this is amazing! I love the user controls and ability to customize including the speed! I am grateful for whoever made this application possible so that we can all learn a foreign language while having fun! Thank you very much! The only thing I would say is I wish it worked on my phone so I can study on the go, maybe some day. :)
If you are learning a language, it's the best app that you could find.
I would give this app more star as it definitely gets the job done every time. In fact, its the best I've found to date. However, it has stopped working on YouTube in the last few days. The icon is there but every time I select it nothing happens. I've tried on a few devices and its the same result. If someone on the team could or already is working to fix this, I'll definitely raise my review.
I would give 5 star just a few week ago now there is just a few different lang subtitle
good app. i will use it continuously. but i want maker to consider about function of "hiding subtitle". when i choose "hide two subtitles". i want to when i put my mouse on the hided subtitle, only one that exactly i put my mouse on is shown, not both once ,
SO LOVE IT!!!
Thank you for providing us with this great APP, but it doesn't work as it advertised for, so I give it 1 star, after solving this very problem, I will raise more starts. LY icon doesn't show up on YouTube, but Netflix is OK. Can't find anyone complaining about this issue, what am I doing wrong, though my YouTube main site is Japanese version. Also It doesn't work on my friend computer. I have tried another plugin, it works on YouTube, so the problem might not on my end. This one works -> Language Learning with Netflix & YouTube™
1. when installed by default it is granted permission to read and change your data on all amazon sites. of course there is no need for that and i disabled it immediately. 2. I subscribed and use it for like a week, but then a popup shows up saying i must pay for pro features i've been using (the most important ones like saving words) , i get it, but why the hell couldn't you notice from the beginning that there is paid features , i wouldn't subscribed and use it for a week. i feel scammed and unrespected as a user.
Great tool, with amazing potential. I was enjoying it until I realized that after singing up with my e-mail, you are only granted a trial of the extra features. I wouldn't have minded, if I knew it was only a trail, because then I wouldn't have signed up (or maybe they knew that. lol). Did I miss the notice, because I was under the impression you just need to sign-in for some extra features, not subscribe. I also wouldn't even mind paying for pro, but I don't like how misleading the sign up felt. Another problem I'm unable to solve while using the Japanese, is that suddenly there is Hiragana readings displayed in brackets, which makes the subtitles unnatural and laborious to read. There is already a transliteration feature to add Hiragana readings above the Kanji, so why add the extra reading in brackets as well? I feel like this happened after my trial expired. Looks like this now 特(とく)に子(こ)どもらは パニックで学級閉鎖(がっきゅうへいさ)もあったってよ. Troublesome if you already know the Kanji. Even for unknown Kanji, (がっきゅうへいさ) in brackets really isn't needed to read 学級閉鎖 because of the transliterations option... So why can't I turn off the bracketed words? It's not part of the original subtitles anyway. Going to try to delete my account... I hate deleting accounts, never easy and always wastes time. Update: Unable to delete account. Is it even possible? Not happy. Further concerns when I read someone's review that said " the addon [has] access to harvest my amazon meta data".
Found it and love it
Obviously the devs need support but I am probably the minority wanting to support with donation/purchase instead of having to ensure the addon doesn't have access to harvest my amazon meta data. Disabled that the moment I saw it. Decent addon and having proper subtitles for learning with netflix is a million times better than relying on youtube uploads for more interesting content. Proper Human translated would be worth purchase support alone. But sometimes the subtitles don't match the dialogue in a couple kids videos.
Love this extension. Shows me original subtitles as well as the English version below it, and it's really easy to simply highlight a word I don't understand to see its meaning. Thanks devs
all in all, its a great tool for language learning and very helpful. unfortunately, atleast for spanish verbs sometimes when you click on the already conjugated ones it doesn't pop up which is alittle frustrating. But i genuinely really enjoy this application and will continue to use it. My only critique would be maybe adding more examples to the words when you click on the and maybe just more information in general about the word. Also if its a verb maybe you can add some of the different conjugations. but all in all very helpful.
I'm using this program to study Chinese. I have some proficiency so not starting completely from scratch. Since I don't have any other program like this, I rate it high because it is a fantastic addition to other language learning resources that are available. Watching the language in a movie is great...less boring and brings out the way people actually talk. One other feature that makes it stand out as a leaning aid is the ability to make printouts of the movie dialogue including reasonably good translations. This is a real time saver from tediously creating flash cards from hand with the bonus of seeing words in conversations as actually used. Another feature worth mentioning is the ability to play the movie actor's conversations over and over again building up that language memory and proper pronunciation. For me, the program adequately covers the bases for language learning from real-world spoken dialogue but of course needs to be supplemented by focused rather than the more random but nevertheless real-world conversations in a movie. This is a terrific program that can bring a serious student close to how a language is used as the next best thing to actually living in the targeted foreign country. If you've ever tried creating flashcards from movie subtitles you will certainly come to appreciate this amazing and worthwhile extension.
great for learning
i want to save words with the free version
Oh my god, I have to say that it such is an incredible extension. All I need is just here. Thank you so much for your contribution, this extension's developers!
very good
Is it possible to somehow highlight phrasal verbs and not individual words? Without this, it is very inconvenient. Beyond the entry level, the program will not help you learn English.
This is possibly the best tool for language learning ever. Ask people how they learned English as a second language. They all watched FRIENDS. They watched TV and movies. Imagine being able to see all dialogue in the new language and in your own language at the same time. With every word easily clickable to see a definition. Tons more features, like being able to add new words to exportable flashcards, or color-coding words, or customizable dictionaries to jump to.
the first week it was really helpful, it helped me a lot with learning spanish. A week later they shut down the ability to save words and required money for it but I was okay with that. But now for some reason the subtitles won't react to my mouse anymore and I don't know why, Is it also included in the premium version now or what? please help. But until then I will keep it two stars.
It kind of works but no hotkeys customization.
It's a generally useful app, however I find it a bit confusing. I have Spanish Audio and subtitles, alongside English subtitles, and the words spoken in Spanish, don't match the words in the Spanish subtitles. I don't see how I can use this to learn a language.
Really awesome! Wish it worked for other streaming services as well. Other than that it's really great I am using it with french and it helps out heaps even on youtube videos. Very high quality and generally impressed. Keep building on this app, genuinely an awesome resource!!!!!
Extremely helpful!! reliable and exactly what i was looking for. customizable, works well with netflix. no issues.
I am in France. It has been several weeks since my subtitles changed from Korean back to English (Korean is not in the drop-down list any longer). It happened in the autumn 2021 and after a few weeks it went back to normal but now it has been really a long time and still unavailable. It did give me a warning message when it initially occurred that the developers had been notified.... when can we expect to have the Korean language back in the catalogue of subtitles????
The interface and mechanism is great. But I don't know how the translation on Youtube is quite messy. I chose "Human caption" for English translation of Japanese subtitles, and got a different translation from Youtube's actual human caption. I tried from Microsoft Edge and Chrome browser (in Chrome, I turned off all extensions, except for Language Reactor), and the results were similar. I'm not sure about this, but I think the translation even vary (?). I'm wondering if this is because I misunderstood the meaning of "human caption". All in all, this is a great extension, with useful features and beautiful interface. I think I might have had some problem with the translation only. Thanks a lot for the great extension.
Fantastic! This is something I have been wanting for years. Came across it on a YouTube video. Absotely love it!
I'm in absolute awe. I can't believe I've only discovered this app now. It's just what I needed to streamline my vocab learning process in French!
This extension is amazing. Cheers to the devs that worked on this
This app is amazing. It help me to study English, managing time speed, etc. Some sync in subtitles not that great but it is tolerable i think. I'm wondering you guys to patch keyboard shortcut. To see translation, i need to click twice to check my understanding when i see movie/dram (*i usually watch movie with English subtitles, not with translation.) if you make any shortcut to "Human translation", it is much better than now. Anyway, Your app is great.
Amazing stuff, I'm really impressed.
I'm amazed at how advanced the language analysis is, it also seems to be aware of Korean post-positions and is able to separate them out and give the meaning of the main word in a space-separated token. However, it would also be nice to see the lexical decomposition of a space-separated token as well. For example (using English): - languages = language + s (plural) - watched = watch + ed (past tense) - won't = will + not (negation) In Korean: - 딸기가 = 딸기 (strawberry) + 가 (subject marker) - 갔어요 = 가다 (go) + -았다 (past tense) + 어요 (polite ending) - 하지마 = 하다 (do) + 지 말다 (imperative negation)
Great Extension. Thank you. Just started with this watching some clips on Youtube and Netflix. I will give you more feedback as I use it more but at first use, I can give you this: 1. The speed control and be continues. sometimes I need to slow it down a bit but the %75 is too slow. Can you make it like that? for example 92% speed? 2. I am watching a Korean TV series in Spanish but the translations do not match at all. When I switch back and forth, the subtitle languages, between "Spanish" and "Spanish(European)" I can get some more variations that is helpful but still not the same as the audio. I rewrote some of the text myself with the help of google translator that is much closer. If there is an option to write my own version of the subtitles I could repeat it and read my own texts along with the other ones or switch the other one off would be great help. or even have the option to share my translations with others attached to the same video would also help each others. One more point, can you make an on-off option on the screen to use the one we like more and turn the other one off, without need to go to settings? Regards, and Thanks again for such a wonderful extension.
This application is great. I'm using it on Opera and I don't have any issues. The human translation when I want to watch my target language with both English and target language subtitles is good. There are a lot of options while viewing that are helpful such as pausing after every sentence and highlighting certain words. There are more features I need to learn about, but everything here is useful so far!
You made an amazing work with this extention. I think it would be great to have a less expensive subscription that allows the user to save words and export them on Anki.
this extension was working great for the first couple of minutes id highly reccomend it, but after some time watching an episode netflix kicked me out and wont let me back in because it thinks the extension is a vpn. is there anyway to fix this? im not allowed in my account because of it.
Amazing.
This extension is fantastic and an incredible way to complement formal language learning with contextual listening. I was looking for an app like NflxMultiSubs, and Language Reactor turned out to be 10x better. I have been using it to learn Korean, and am super impressed by the audio when I click on a word. If you're struggling with speed, I recommend 1) learning the keyboard shortcuts for the app, 2) using an extension like Video Speed Controller to slow down the video speed. It's surprising that a lot of folks who reviewed it as anything below 5 stars mention things like selection -- the application is limited by the content on platforms like Youtube and Netflix. Hopefully there is plenty of content to explore in most languages. Thank you so much to the developers.
Loving it so far. It has so many features that are super helpful for learning and remembering things. I recommend what people do is pick 5 -10 words out of a show and study them. Don't try to use this extension to be your primary learning tool. Think of it as an AMAZING time saver. The only reason I am giving 4 stars vs 5 is I feel some more basic controls would be helpful. Some settings you can just toggle on and off with a click. For example having both native and target language subs on the screen can be annoying when you are trying to learn. Fast ways to toggle things like that can be helpful. I have been studying Chinese for a year and I can say, besides Pleco & my native speaking girlfriend, this is my new most favorite language tool. Its so well made & saves SO much time. I can not stress enough how much time you waste when learning a language for the first time.
It's missing brazilian portuguese as translation language
Perfect! am using this with Netflix and as I rarely give any reviews, unless something is really bad or really good and this deserves a full score. it's possible to rewind the current subtitle line which is perfect for re-listening to a sentence. also it allows to jump right to the following/previous subtitle line!! I can't imagine a way to make this any better. many thanks to the developers for such a great work!
I'm using it with Netflix while watching shows with japanese subtitles and it works perfectly. Very impressed by the work of the developers. Would be great if the keyboard shortcuts could be changed though.
Dude, this makes learning languages easier.
Doesn't work for me just crashes Netlfix
Love this app. Wish it would have come out a year sooner when I started learning Japanese. Would have been great to start with this. I'd love to see an option where you can star select all subtitles lines at once versus only selecting one by one. It would make filtering out unwanted subtitle lines easier and exporting mass amounts of lines quicker into Anki.
Excellent Chrome extension to SUPPLEMENT language learning through watching videos -- e.g., Netflix, YouTube, plus more. The extension allows you to slow down the video with a single keystroke. You can also auto-pause after each subtitle, then repeat the subtitle section with a single keystroke before moving on to the next (or previous) section with ... wait for it ... A SINGLE KEYSTROKE! ¡Que bueno! We had the benefit of learning this tool from a master language tutor which saved lots of setup confusion and frustration -- https://preply.com/en/tutor/1867026/?pref=NDU3MTIyNg== Thanks to the dev team for building this. You ROCK! :)
[2021/11/30] When I make YouTube full screen on my PC, a horizontal scroll bar appears. If you turn off this extension, the horizontal scroll bar will not appear. Please fix it.
What a great idea...if only the paid version had all the features that the plan options screen I used to sign up promised. Here's the whole story: I was using the LLN extension for Chrome, and I checked out the subscription options. The pop-up to subscribe said that the paid version allows the user to upload subtitle files--which could be a great feature because Netflix subtitles and audio for language other than the original don't match (and by "don't match", I mean the wording couldn't be more different and still have the same essential meaning). Now LLN shows me as subscribed, but I can't find any way to upload a subtitle file...but that was only the beginning of my problems... In an effort to find out what's going on, I went to the LLN website. The home page says it's "the old version" and directs you to the Language Reactor website...but that doesn't matter--neither has any information about uploading subtitles. What's worse, when I went back to the "old" site and tried to log in, I got an error message saying that I don't have a subscription. Somehow I eventually was able to log in--but nowhere in the Chrome extension setting for either extension, or on either website, can I now find anything about the promised ability to upload a subtitle file. This thing is a complete mess, and I'm not even going to keep the 10-day free trial. I'm cancelling immediately, because the subscription gives me nothing I need that the free version doesn't have. For anyone considering buying a subscription, DON'T. No one should be paying for this thing until it works properly and provides all the features promised on the subscription options page I went through to sign up.
good
I shouldnt forget this extension
It's really good but I have a question I just pressed PRO MODE. It's free for 7 days. Then will it charge me???
Love it
A perfect tool for shadowing technique and learning a new language.
I like the app, but it could definitely use a better dictionary for German. It's constantly unable to translate longer words, and it also balks at profanity. I'm 59 years old - I don't need a profanity filter. There should be the option to see all words - even the naughty ones.
I love this app. Despite a few hiccups, I gave it 5 stars. I am using the app to learn Thai on YouTube. I highly recommend it. I can go through the Thai subtitles and English translations line by line and replay any line as often as I want. In addition, it provides a list of all the words used in the video. Users can search only for subtitled videos using the search feature. This is crucial since few Thai videos have subtitles. Firstly, I have problems with transliterations. Generally, I find them useful, since I haven't learned to read Thai very well yet. However, the transliterations provided by the app are rather poor, and sometimes they aren't even close. I am glad the app lets me disable them completely. In addition, I am unable to create or sign in at the moment. As a result, I cannot save word lists or use any of the features that require an account.
This is something!
the subtitles were great, but it makes my netflix resolution bad. it became blurry and even when i removed the extension from chrome, the resolution is the same as when i used the extension. please tell me how to get the netflix resolution as before
I really enjoy this extension. It's really been helping my language learning. Not a great selection of movies in any of my target languages but it's a more fun way to study.
I have been doing EVERYTHING WRONG! This free extension is AMAZING! Wow. I just downloaded it, learned the keyboard shortcuts and am LOVING using it with Netflix so far. Can't WAIT to put it to use on my normal YouTube consumption! THANK YOU DEVELOPERS! ???❤️?
I love this extensions so much!!! Wishing for a mobile version one day <33 Would definitely get it
This extension is killing it. It has so many wonderful functions, the most interesting is the creation of a library of words that are grouped by level of difficulty. If you want to increase your vocabulary and speak like a college professor, you got it with this extension. Great job.
Fantastic app. I love being able to learn a foreign language by watching tv shows. You can view captions in 2 languages and for Chinese it shows pinyin as well. You can also hover over a word to see it's meaning. Only downside is I have to watch Netflix on a pc/laptop since this is a chrome extension.
The arrow keys don't work properly for navigating the subtitles anymore. How do I set my own keyboard shortcuts? ASDFR, etc. are already used by another application I use on videos (HTML5 video speed controller)...
Overall very well designed and useful. But I noticed it's become way slower to load since it's renamed to Language Reactor, hope the developer can solve the performance issue soon.
Use to love this app to learn Mandarin on Netflix until they decided to remove Pinyin in version 2.8 and apparently never brought it back? Also the extension is now very buggy and the dictionary doesn't even work anymore.
new update sucks
It works. At least for any Chinese subtitles (as long as they are not embedded into the video itself, which is sadly often the case).
As a language learner and a movie fan I think this app is absolutely fantastic. A tremendous achievement, great value for money, and a joy to use. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Used to love this extension, but new version ruined it for me. On top of losing my custom settings, the new version is quite buggy. Error messages pop-up every time that force my video to reload. It's also annoying how I can't deactive the extension for youtube - only wanted it for Netflix. Edit: Issue mostly resolved, cheers.
Should be able to save all subtitle for advance review on anki instead of saving them one by one.
works well on youtube but didnt work on Netflix
Im learning Korean and the translations are pretty incorrect... Some words I know and the translations do not add up. recommend getting translations from Naver.
Amazing add on for studying language!!
It is not a good idea to release a new combo app before it has been fully tested. It would break YouTube's keyboard shortcuts.
I like the idea alot but this newest version causes lots of stuttering in every YouTube video I watch even when I wasn't using it. I had tabs run out of memory and not load when I had the extension installed. I turned it off in the Extension page and the problems all resolved.
Great extension! I wish I've found it early.
It was one of the most complete language tools I've tested so far.
