If you start having problems on loading websites or having problems scrolling, I recommend to restrict the access of the extension to only youtube. Doing this actually fixed my problems.
I had to turn this off since it breaks forums and few other website's disallowing to scroll.
Good extension, but not sure why it needs access to ALL sites. It sometimes breaks sites like twitter and discord making it unable to scroll. I changed the permission to only access youtube.com domains.
This extension is great. Sometimes, the quality just goes to 480p or keeps chnaging even though I have a 100mps connnection. SO this is helpful. But if the auto-pause option does not stop auto-play or the next video in the playlist, it will be better.
Blocks Twitter for some reason in the last week.
This breaks twitter and it does not load. I tested all my extensions and only this affects twitter, what the hell?
Breaks discourse-based forums
This extension is very useful and I want to have it all the time; however it prevents Gmail from loading. Soooo....
I am a hobbyist and not an authority on this subject, but: This extension fetches and runs malicious files on your browser. This php file is obfuscated and analysis would take days, but it's definitely a malicious tracker, very likely stealing login data as well. Having video quality selected automatically can not be that important to you.
Attempted 3 different times with different settings and none of them worked. This extension does NOT do as advertised.
Breaks Discourse-based websites rather badly; the scrollbar vanishes after clicking a few links. Not sure why.
didn't work
This extension listens for an attempt to log into Paypal and then tries to redirect to a scam/phishing/ransomware site. I can't post the URL here obviously. Chrome seems to block it from finishing but oddly allows the attempt to begin and the first "alert" sound of the scam page loads and plays. This is what alerted me to the issue and caused me to investigate what was making the sound. I tracked it down to this extension and found the attempt to redirect by checking the "chrome://media-internals/" list. Disabling this extension causes the issue to go away. Re-enabling it brings it back.
The extension was very useful. It looks like the analytics tracking that's built into the extension causes pages to break now. I'm currently using a local version without the analytics and it works great. It currently causes the following error on forums such as the rclone forum "Refused to execute inline script because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive"
Took me a while to narrow down that the problem was this extension, but it prevents Google Messages for Web from loading. Results in a blank white screen. Stops doing that when I disable this extension. I liked using this before but I can't continue doing so when it prevents me from using messages.
Apparently, it doesn't do anything. Removing.
This extension prevent Gmail from loading. Please fix it!
It works fine, I don't know why but for some reason it now affects google docs, I can't open sheets or docs because the extension is enabled, only when is disabled.
wouldve rated higher but for some videos that are age restricted with the verification button, the plugin breaks the video and wont allow a user to actually watch the video,
Doesnt work and needs crazy permissions
my youtube quality now remains consistent, the rest of chrome is now slower than internet explorer was in the year 2000.
I open many tabs so i really need it to be set to a specific quality and also pause it so i can eat my food without settingup too many things. Thank you for this.
Breaks functionality on many sites. For example, the hyperlink in Google Android SDK standalone download link becomes broken due to this extension. Countless nubmer of hours wasted due to this extension.
Disables scroll bars on certain websites.
It works great on youtube but stops gmail and google chat from loading so I have no option but to disable it.
Great! Idk why YouTube keeps changing my quality when I have set it up to be high by default and with decent internet speeds...
Does what it is made for.
Doesn't work properly
Strangely, when this extension is enabled, the Google Pay dialog never comes up. Disabling it allows it to work.
It works but it forces all videos to use that quality. I would like the option to downgrade to 1080p on my 1080p laptop, and to use 4k, and especially if I set it to 4k manually using the cog, I would like for it to stay 4k. This way, the extension is useless & I hated it
Outright does not work
A good extension but prevents access to messages.google.com
I like the idea behind this, but I've just figured out that it is causing messages.google.com to not work
Works on Opera at 1080p
To be more environment friendly I wanted to set to 360p default - and - only when needed, manually increase my resolution per video basis in the player. Unfortunately it goes back to 360p. Only solution is to change the extension settings for all videos. Obviously its great for those who want max resolution for everything plus a quicker environmental collapse as a bonus.
it BAFFLES me that i need an extension to enable this feature. Youtube at it again making it's platform """"""""""BETTER""""""""" like removing the dislike button, anyway rant over, thanks for the plugin
this is the first time i review a google chrome extension, yo literally made my life better, before this ex i used to open several tabs and check them one by one to adjust the quality to my shi**ty internet quota because youtube cannot let us choose a preferred quality. thanks
The only problem I have with this extension (which I have confirmed and tested) was that this interferes with age-restricted content. There is a weird bug where even if you are 18+ and clicked "I understand and wish to proceed" on age-restricted content, the video players will not allow you to play the video if you have this extension enabled. Otherwise this works as intended. If you can fix this bug I will change this to 5 stars.
Useful extension. However, if you're one that does not possess a form of protection to privacy, then avoid downloading it. I have thus far received 18 trackers or so. It's very shady, but worth the pay off should your internet anonymity be safely guarded.
If it does not collect or share information, why does it need permission to read and change all your data on all websites??? This is sus AF, do not recommend.
Fine but cant change quality other than set on settings.
Nice work. Here is an idea. Please make the youtube video switchover to full screen faster. It takes a few seconds for it to enlarge to full screen and then back. If you can achieve this my hats off to you twice.
Very useful tool, cannot thank enough!!
Does not work at all... Auto pauses when auto pause is disabled. And all my videos default to 480p regardless of extension settings. Complete waste of time.
It works, but only on youtube.com. Embedded youtube videos (such as on reddit) aren't automatically adjusted. Which makes this extension kind of useless for me, unfortunately.
Apart from letting you set a quality setting for youtube this extension also adds a "open web analytics" to every page where it runs and by default in runs on all pages. In other words, in return for setting a fixed youtube quality, it knows every website you visit and every link you click. You decide if that's reasonable...
So far, this seems to work exactley as I want it to. I set the auto play to 1440, and now youtube on desktop no longer reduces to 720 and then 480 as it always used to do in the past. Tyvm.
5 stars I can finally watch my favorite videos in crisp 144p
4/17/22 still works just go into it extension itself and set the quality level and literally set it and forget it. You can not simply just change the quality in youtube, itll reset on every video. you have to click on extensions , then click on the three little dots , then click on options, bam set the quality via the options page and forget it.
doesnt work
As of APR-14-2022 the "Auto Pause Video" feature is no longer functioning on YT videos for v1.1. ver 100 Has been wrorking as intended until today. Would be nice to apply teh "stop video" feature to any video (mostly using HTML5 video functions) across other websites.
This extension sucks, because... eh, there are many levels of "bad". One star removed for the stupid requirement to always click the "save" button. Why? One star removed for the fact that there is no UI on the webpage or player itself. If SponsorBlock can do it, why not this? And finally, one star removed for the fact that it doesn't take what resolution the user chose on the stock player UI into account. Register if user has manually clicked on one of the quality settings hidden in the cog icon on the player itself, then grab that value, store it and use it to maintain the resolution. Simple. It should immediately come into effect, without refreshing.
Work as first, but now it usually slip 1 or 2 videos per day. I watch roughly 30 videos everyday
Does not work.
It's good, but the playlist button on youtube.com/embed/ and then the video code/id\something disappears most of the time, please fix that.
I can't change my video quality other than the 'Default Quality'.
The plugin I forgot I had, removed it because I didn't think I needed it, and immediately realized why I had it. YouTube still will default to low quality stream no matter that my internet can handle it. Awesome QOL plugin, absolutely recommend it.
It just works as it shoud, thanks!
As of 2/5/2022, this does not set the quality to 480p as I have set it. Youtube auto sets the quality back to HD. I have done tests with this app on and without it on, and there is no difference whatsoever. This is basically serving as a placebo at best, and spyware at worst if the earlier review by Christopher Cowell is to be believed. so until this is updated to account for the fact Youtube wants everyone to watch videos in HD, this app is worse then useless.
Это расширение просто работает! Прекрасная работа
pause needs a rework
Thanks, it's look like works!
Doesn't work
Makes age/content restricted content impossible to see. due to bug.
So I have satellite internet, which means websites view it as slower than it is because of an unstable connection. That leads YT to auto load my videos anywhere between 144p and 360p, but I can almost always run 480p no problem. I ended up having to manually set each video to 480p, which doesn't seem like a lot at first but with the amount of YT I watch it becomes a massive pain. This works exactly as advertised, which is absolutely perfect for my situation, and is a HUGE quality of life improvement for me. Thanks devs!
Doesn't work, and automatically has access to all of your browsing data. REMOVED.
Works well, just what I needed.
DOES. NOT. WORK.
WARNING: This extension overqualifies itself (requests access to retrieve and change all data in Chrome) and then downloads a script from their own site which is then executed (see lines 89-102 of main.js). For the uninformed, this is completely unnecessary by all means of the word. They are using a useful plugin as a guise to track you & potentially more with the information in your browser. Users beware.
Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore...
Maybe it's because I'm using a Chromium browser and not Chrome itself, but this extension is not functioning for me.
Bug or Intended as functionality? but "tpc.googlesyndication.com" is block once the extension is activated
This extension is excellent minus a huge major flaw, I can't seem to disable the app when I want to temporarily. This app needs a disable feature, the only way to disable this app currently is hitting remove from chrome. Plz fix!
It's good. Maybe add an option for the auto-pause to not happen on streams and it'd be perfect.
Does what I want it to. Fixes a really annoying problem that shouldn't even be a problem to begin with. Very satisfying.
very goood
gets the job done.
Just installed and seems to work fine! I no longer have to keep manually increasing the video quality on each video. No idea why youtube was lowering my resolution, my internet is high speed...
It does nothing. It does not change the resolution/quality at all.
Was great, but as of 8/30/2021 it has been causing some YouTube videos to go into a buffering loop, effectively making them unwatchable without disabling the extension or switching browsers.
Hey? There's an issue with YT now, the videos don't want to load anymore, at all. Some of them do load, but after a very long while. It shows "0:00 / 0:00" and looping... And if I disable the extension it loads instantly. Please fix what YT broke?
It's screwing up on YouTube Premium so ads are playing.
Doesn't work for Chrome 92.0.4515.159, it lets the video play on Auto (HD) and has to be changed manually.
this actually works... i recommend this to everyone
This extension is a life saver thank you
works
Doesn't do anything
It does not work, at all. I still have to change the resolution on every video I watch. Uninstalling!
Doesn't work anymore.
perfection
As of the date of this review this extension works flawlessly on YouTube. I set it to 4k because I have 940mbps up/down, and it consistently chooses the highest quality available for every video whether 4k or all the way down to 360 all by itself. This is a great addition to your Chrome extensions, and a welcome one.
Working well so far
What is Youtube Gaming? What is Auto Pause? How do they work?
It works perfectly for me (Google Chrome Version 88.0.4324.150)
It works but could be improved. I use it to force youtube to keep high quality. I have fast internet but for some reason without this extension it keeps defaulting to 360p or lower. I put it to 4k and it works just fine but if the video has a max resolution of 1080p the extension doesn't do a thing. It should in my opinion force the highest quality possible below the specified. If I want 4k but only 1080p is available then it should force 1080p...
Works perfectly
Actually freaking works.. been through a few extensions to get to this one.
Best extension ever
It's a big help but I would like to be able to change the speed on any given video as I am watching it. I use the extension to stop YouTube from defaulting my quality to 360p. Instead I default it to 4K, using this extension. But when I want to watch a video at high speed, I have to turn it down to 1080p. I'd like to be able to do that without using the extension's settings to do so, just for the duration of that one video. i.e. I would prefer this extension to override the default only.
Ok. i using this ext for years.. but recently i feel it dsnt work correctly! i mean i put it on 360p, but its always on Auto mode! and im not sure if its exactly on 360p or higher! coz video quality And data usages tells me that something is wrong
At last, I found a good one. It works well. I am satisfied. So love it ?
Love it, works perfectly fine but can you guys add auto disable annotations feature? would be great, thx
good
I use this so Youtube doesn't auto switch to low quality due to my poor connection. Most of the time it works, although sometimes it still goes to low quality and I don't know why.
IT ACTUALLY WORKED UNLIKE THE OTHER ONE THIS ONE WORKS!
One of the rare few that works and doesn't neglect certain options :D.
First one that works just how I want it. It stops the video right away while other extensions I tried make the videos stop after playing for a second or more... Love it <3
thats Great....
nice...
- Reviewed on 6 August, 2018. --- One of the most lightweight extensions which is able to set YouTube Resolution Quality limited to 360p or 720p. Sadly, I can't change the quality of the current YouTube video "temporarily" if I want to without disabling the extension as the extension keeps up the forced quality lock active. --- Requesting the developer to remove the forced quality lock when user clicks the Settings cogwheel icon and re-enable it on web-page refresh and web-page navigation. --- I have a high-spec Gaming Laptop with 20 Mega Bytes per Sec internet speed Wi-Fi. So YouTube's default "Auto" Quality decides to give me (2160p60) 4k 60 FPS by default. This consumes a HUGE amount of data when I simply want to listen to some Nightcore Music while I chill in the house for a few hours. But, I have limited data of only 500 Giga Bytes per month. That is why I had to restrict the YouTube Quality as the sound quality is decent enough at 360p or 720p. ---
