See https://superuser.com/a/1326712/18964 for a more proper solution to bind Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab to this extension that's easier, will not reset when you close Chrome, and will even sync to your profile. All credit goes to Nathan Ladwig and jdunning.
Really nice implimentation, this is the third plugin that I tried when looking for this functionality. Dont think I will be looking any further, GJ
It works on my Mac with Brave browser with the "change your settings file hack"! Great work! Thank you so much!
source code? :)
Actually this feature is more useful than ctrl+Tab, which switches between tabs on the order of occurrence. I do not know why it is not provided in chrome. But that pop up which shows the list of tab could have a better design.
Doesn't work. Options greyed out.
There is an issue with this extension. At times it does not show all the open tabs when you press ctrl+q (or whatever is the shortcut). Then I have to manually restart the extension, after which it works for a while.
Under too many circumstances, I don't have Ctrl-Tab access to most of my open tabs.
Must have!
Seems to work. Just using CTRL-Y instead. Ah, just stopped working!
doesn't work in chrom
This doesn't direct me to the most recent tab. It seems the order is close but not quite right.
UPDATE: A more complete HOW-TO can be found here: http://superuser.com/questions/104917/chrome-tab-ordering/1139391#1139391 Finally, an extension that fairly reliably implement MRU tab order without too many janky hacks. I get that this mess is entirely the fault of the Chrome team, but most other attempts at this functionality have been pretty poor. This extension isn't perfect, but it's as close to perfect as Chrome will allow. It occasionally gets a little weird when you open or close a tab, but even TabMixPlus on Firefox has that problem occasionally. It's necessary to edit a Preference file to set Ctrl-Tab as the shortcut. It may or may not be necessary to set the file read-only; I did for a couple of restarts and then removed the read-only flag and it appears to be working. But make a backup of the Preferences file anyway, because editing it pretty painful, given that it is 60KB of JSON data on a single line.
Absolutely must! Finally I've got the solution. Make sure to fully read the description! Thanks!
I use this all the time. I configured it for ctrl-q and have programmed my brain to use ctrl-q instead of ctrl-tab. It works most of the time. The biggest issue I've found is if you're in a tab with popup windows in it and try switching tabs with the extension, it doesn't work. For instance, If your in gmail and have chat windows open, the mru menu will come up and stay up until you select another tab. If the developer could fix that, I would probably give it 5 stars.
Nice, but how turn off popup window when Ctrl+Tab pressed?
nice work!
Probably the best MRU tab switching extension currently available (though that's not really saying much). It seems there's quite a few limitations in Chrome that these extensions have to work around, and so far this extension seems to do the best job of handling those limitations in a graceful way. Unfortunately there's a lot of buggy behavior, with tab switching occasionally not working, and tabs sometimes being ignored by the extension entirely (see the support tab for my bug reports on those issues).
Could actually change Ctrl + Tab behavior which was the reason I was not using Chrome thanks to Radek Zyka trick. Make sure you set the file Preferences to "read only" after the change it otherwise returns to default. Edit: Experiencing glitches with MRU order after a few days.
works with Preferences file tweak
You are a hero!
Ctrl + Tab is no longer bindable, i.e this extension no longer work. It should be removed from Chrome Extension library to help people from installing it and wondering how to customize Ctrl + Tab
works a charm, only wish I could assign shortcut to CTRL + `, so that it is closer to the CTRL + Tab that you get in Firefox.
works great on Windows but on Mac when I release the key-combo (I have Alt-q) the tab menu remains open. I have to use the mouse to click the selected tab. Bummer!
Does not work on Mac
already had. Stupid. hate it
I can't get it to work correctly on Chromebook. As stated I can't set CRTL-Tab, but that's ok. I have tried CTRL-Q and it works for the last tab, but if I want to go back in history it opens a new tab with soft of a drop-down list of recent tabs that I can't even click on. I'll keep searching...
I'm switching back to FFox because of this extension not working. This Ctrl+tab thing predates you, google. You're not the boss of us.
Does not work
Not working at all. Just walks the tabs from left to right.
Doesn't work.
Very useful! Must be integrated to chrome as default!
This is not working when the shortcut doesn't involve the ctrl key. (For example when using alt-x)
Thanks to the publisher, but can't set keyboard shortcut to ctrl+tab. I can't believe how blinkered and anti-user Google are being over this issue. It's like MRU switching wasn't a GUI default since Xerox invented them in the 70s.
I cant input ctrl+tab in the keyboard shortcuts page. It just ignores it or if other tabs are open ignores it and jumpes to the next tab.
ctrl+tab as a keybind isn't an option anymore, even on Windows. But, this still works better than the other plugins I've tried. Wth is wrong with chrome? Why isn't this the default behavior of ctrl+tab anyway.
Nice! Works great with CTRL key combos. Does not work with ALT key combos.
It works exactly as it's described. I am quite satisfied with the extension, although I would really like to see possibility to navigate through tabs in that list with arrow keys.
The product only worked one time. After that anytime I tried using Ctrl+Tab it just walked the tabs from left to right. The product should also work when closing tabs it should take you to the MRU tab.
Works nicely with shortcuts other than CTRL+TAB. Would have given 5 stars if it worked with CTRL+TAB as the developer claims, but I can't set the keyboard shortcut to CTRL+TAB...
Finally somebody who found how to beat ignorrant Google Chrome developers. Big thanks for this productivity feature!!!
dosen't work anymore... it's could be nice if it works
Does not cycle between 'most recently used' (i.e. MRU) tabs. needs two different short cuts (one goes forward the other backward). Does not follow the pattern advertised by it's name.
when I click ctrl+tab too fast it doesn't work because it stays on that temporal windows you create to display the order. don't you can avoid that window?
Great I like it. Finally someone solved this issue. YOU ROCK!
Finally..Ctrl+Tab working as it should be on Windows!(MRU). Thank You Daniel.
It's all i need to start using Chrome as default browser
