not working

Works to restore thumbnails to Chrome 51 after google changed the new tab page on what my browser uses WHICH ISN'T internal BTW. Just gotta do some css to make it look nicer!

Doesn't work in Chrome 99. Not even after the "fix".

I'm sure it's excellent, but it only works if your default search engine is Google, which is very weird and inconvenient.

The old new tab did not work. Chromium Version: 63.0.3235.0

Totally my favorite extension to remove most visited and everything else I consider bothersome on the new tab default page, but it sadly stopped working for me. Would LOVE it if it could work again like it used to without google's updates interfering, or whatever that's causing it to stop...

finally, the old "new tab" page is back. this covers the 'extended' version as well, use settings page to show "apps", "recently closed tabs" and "other device pages" edit: sadly, stopped working since chrome 61..

Search Encrypt sucks but hope this one changes it

Sometimes works, sometimes not. Why does it depend on chosen search engine is a mystery. There were always problems with this extension because of it. Update: Stopped working completely in Chrome 61.

Won't get rid of most visited on new tab page. I think some recent update to google has disabled all the apps that do this. Why???

Suddenly stopped working on multiple PCs. Followed the steps below and it worked once. All subsequent tabs are default, not New Tab Reloaded. Steps to fix this extension in Chrome 61+: 1. Open Chrome settings and change the search engine from Google to Bing. 2. Open a new tab page to see Bing's home page. 3. Change the search engine back to Google. 4. Open a new tab page and this extension will load correctly.

RIP. Switching search engine fix doesn't work. Tested on different computers running same version.

Works after upgrading to the latest version. However the deletion of thumbnails after 8 does not work.

A must-have for removing the distraction that is the new Google Chrome new tab, and makes it much easier to access webapps and other shortcuts.

Everything I loved about the old native Chrome New Tab, but now MUCH better! So easy in the extension's options to now be able to see tabs from other devices and recently closed tabs. Amazing. Update: A recent Chrome update broke a piece of the functionality, and the developers quickly got a new version out that resolves the problem. One of my favorite extensions.

Doesn't work anymore as of the time this writing. The New Tab page doesn't load the theme, nor does it load anything else.

This used to be a great extension, it seems to be broken in Chrome 60.

Great extension, giving 4 stars for now. Is it possible to have options to change the strength of glow / sharpness over the recently visited boxes? I use a dark background and there's a very sharp sparkly glow over those boxes which makes it hit into the eyes even more since the background is black. Thanks!

mine just shows small recently visited. yet i have accidentally fixed by changing whatever the default search engine to google and it works well. why this happens i dont know. seams priavacy susupsus to me

I have been using this extension for many weeks now without issue, and all of a sudden, today it stopped working. This extension was absolutely heavenly in regards to finding a solution to removing the history thumbnails from the new tab page until today. I am very disappointed that it's suddenly stopped working, but I will continue to keep this extension in the hopes that it will begin working again.

08/02/2016 - White page instead of "most visited", again.

it has stopped working now but i still give a 5 star because it used to be very helpful

This extension is something that i cannot use the Chrome without. If I want to see my old fashion start page with most viewed websites, recently closed tabs (New one is really ineffective), apps etc. when I open the browser. Thank you.

Sadly, I've had to stop using this extension as under Chrome 46, you can't have this extension installed and use the --force-local-ntp command-line flag at the same time. It's not this extension's fault, it seems URLs like chrome://newtab and chrome-search://local-ntp etc. can't be overridden by extensions. I gave this a five-star rating because it actually had me appreciating the new tab page. It worked very well. Right now, with the standard NTP, all I focus on is the Google logo... Thanks for the work you put into this.

Doesn't work, only displays a white screen on where the "Most Visited" pages should appear. Using Chrome 48.

Very neat being able tog et rid of those annoying most viewed tabs and seeing my full theme. But I would like an option to be able to keep the search box in the middle of the screen (it's handy and the new tab sometimes seems a bit too empty otherwise).

It's what a lot of people was looking for since google "brought to a new level" its startpage. But, there is no extended version in the store with app page and recently closed sites button. Because it surely does exist.

I've been mad at Google ever since they got rid of classic NTP, and they seem to disable every extension that I've tried to use to simulate it. It's nice that there's finally a way to have it back exactly the way it used to (and should) be. Small note: the new tab responds to the "OK Google" hotword, but never does anything after I finish speaking. Not sure if this is a problem with the hotword feature atm or this extension is causing it, but it it's the extension it would be a nice thing to have fixed.

This is IT! I have been looking for something to de-clutter my Chrome New Tab for a long time. This is almost perfect. It gives an impressive degree of control over the appearance of the New Tab, particularly the ability to eliminate those idiotic and potentially embarrassing "most visited" thumbnails. a bit more tweaking power would be nice, but not at the cost of bloating the extension. Yay! It took only two years.

This is the only extension I could find that replicated the classic (better) Chrome NTP. The bookmarks bar works as do the apps and recently closed tabs. Thanks for getting it right when so many other extensions (not to mention Google) get it wrong!

As promised - saves me a click to get back to the App page every time I open a new tab.

Allowed me to quickly remove the most visited display and convenient configuration of Apps display. Highly recommended.

Yes! The omnibar is cleared, there is an option to show the apps page(s), and you can see your other devices' recent tabs. Much better than the other extensions that just open the apps page and leave the omnibar filled.

I hated the new most viewed page thing that Google added. I was taking up a majority of the new tab and was blocking my theme. Now i can enjoy less clutter on the new tab and have easy access to all my apps.

I'm so glad I found this! (Make sure to turn on the two checkboxes at the top of the extension options.) It brings back the much more convenient old-style New Tab page, with big thumbnails for most-visited pages, one-click access to recently closed tabs, and a cleaner UI without the unneeded and non-functional logo and search box.

love it the old version of new tab plus I can see my new tab themes without the annoying things on new tab :)

TL:DR version: "Recently Closed" and "Other Devices" menus are in this extension's options. Full Review: If you are like me, the main problem with the official New Tab Page (NTP) was the removal of the "Recently Closed" option at the bottom of the page. THIS APP DOES HAVE IT, BUT you have to enable it by going to chrome://extensions and going to this extension's options. Once you enable the 2 top features there, the new tab page works almost exactly like it did in Chrome version 31 or so (I think with a flag enabled), which is what I have been looking for since the flag to enable the old NTP was removed in version 32 or 33. This app fixes all of my NTP issues. A++

Not bad. Removes the rather redundant search bar (Trying to type in it immediately redirects input to the omnibar, after all), but that's all it does. I would like a customizable amount of 'most visited' links, if possible, to use that extra space gained from removing search. IMO, beats all the alternatives currently available.

The best so far (I tried ~10 apps just trying to bring back the old new tab or to remove the search box on the new tab page). 1. thumbnail pages 2. bookmark bar auto-shown 3. not slow (although there is still some delay) Still missing the old "apps" page. But the best so far.

Still doesn't work. I see the developer tells everyone to enable the prediction service to solve every issue everyone has but it doesn't work.
