It doesn't work well when you are inspecting the page or testing responsiveness in chrome dev tools. So the tool isn't as complete as it could be, mainly when it comes to front end development.
Nothing happened when I clicked on the extension.
Really Loved it! SO HELPFUL!
Excellent ruler tool but I only figured it out because I have experience in photoshop and illustrator. I don't think beginners will have an easy time trying to use it.
I liked that rulers stays persistently after being added to the page while still allowing to continue interacting with the page. Along with following the explanation here in the comments how to switch to measurement-mode, this tool solves at least 90% of my problems. The explanation about measurement-mode, btw, is the following: 1. when rulers are enabled (visible), click on the top left corner of your page (a rectangular space between the left and top ruler) > you should see the rectangle is turned to be blue 2. do a mouse-left-click anywhere on the page and start dragging (just like you'd do to draw a line in any graphical editor) > you should see a segment is drawn along with a label with a distance specified Optionally you can hold Shift button while drawing the line to make it strictly vertical or horizontal – that also helps a lot!) Tnx!
The grids are cool and I managed to figure out how to get the actual measurement function to work. Im rating 3 stars because it took me 10 minutes to figure out the ruler...because the website page I was testing it on it doesn't work. I tried a different website and the ruler worked. Extension should function regardless of the platform the website was built with (joomla in this case)
How to remove grid line? or the straight line created in "ruler mode"?
Great extension I rely on for years. Just one small issue. Please make them use the maximum z-index allowed. I have elements drawing on top of them, especially the website tap navbar drawing on top of the top ruler so I can't use it.
Simple, and does what I need. Helps aligning elements.
Awsome
I am web developer. and this can help me.
A really useful extension for developers. One issue though; it doesn't seem to be clickable when the mobile device simulator is enabled and the canvas size is resizable.
not working on iframe window
Works like a charm.
it's not working on chrome windows10, no measurement at all. I don't know why it has such high mark
Helpful :)
This is exactly what i want
1. I value this extension because unlike all the other extension this one DOESN'T REQUIRE ANY PERMISSIONS 2. The guidelines are great, not just for measuring. 3. What I would improve is definitely the way the actual measuring is triggered - like many other reviewers, I has a hard time figuring out how to start measuring. 4. A tip for future development - it would be a killer if the measuring arrows would stick to visual elements on the page. Apparently, it's somehow possible without any permissions, because this extension handles it without any perms github.com/mrflix/dimensions. All in all, best ruler extension on the market, if you don't want to give any permissions for such a simple task as measuring some elements on the page.
It's better than Page ruler redux
It doesn't work with developer mode on.
doesnt work on macbook pro
Great took
So helpful for lining up icons during development!
This thing is also works with embed! Which is great!
Please just add some visual information of where the user should click to get into "Ruler Mode" where we measure in pixels... I found it but had to try very hard to do so, not really intuitive :) Note: Top Left corner of the browser window, where the 2 MAIN GRIDS join. That is where you have to click to enter "ruler mode" and actually measure pixels, if you so wish.
no cm
On the whole, this extension does its job well. With that said, I think it would be *very* helpful to be able to save gridline configurations. I want to be able to add a bunch of lines to my grid, then be able to bring up the same configuration of lines at a moment's notice. This would be very useful for people who work on similar pages/work often.
It works with neither some websites nor index.html page!!
Just what the doctor ordered: No special permissions required. Does what it is supposed to. I like it. The only thing I wish it would do that it doesn't appear to, when measuring a diagonal I wish it would give you the vertical and horizontal pixel values in addition to the actual length of the diagonal: sort of like Pythagoras :-). Wouldn't hurt to also throw in the area. But, otherwise, this is great!
The only issue I see is when I zoom it - the grid lines don't follow the zoom.
Perfect for what I needed it for.
perfect, and works with internal pdf, great for crafts. had measure for a bonnet and pattern did not display size, but had a key/scale, so with the extension was able to measure !!!!
Bro this stuff is amazing! I don't know why there is a lot of people complaining. Infinitely Grateful!
This is exactly what I needed , Like PS Grid It helps me in designing a lot But there is some deviation in developer mode Generally, it works well and thanks
Not working for my local webpage
It has all the features I need: - rulers with ticks at 100px increments with subdivisions - ability to easily place (drag from ruler), move (click and drag), and remove (drag to ruler) gridlines - ability to measure distances in any direction (click top left space between rulers to toggle measuring mode, then click and drag anywhere) - option to force horizontal or vertical line when measuring (hold Shift key) - snap-to-grid measuring I had some trouble figuring out how to achieve all of the above. The documentation should be updated with step-by-step instructions (see multiple user comments about having to stumble through this or giving up without figuring it out).
I couldn't figure out how to use it.
Barely understand how to go in to the ruler mode. Maybe you can turn this mode on by default? What I do not understand is how to clean all grids I've created. Do no like to remove them one by one for the next measurements :(
Awesome on
the horizontal rulers can not be dragged down. Ofc this may be a compatibility issue with Ubuntu 18.04 Lts, but nevertheless it doesn't work.
Delivers as promised. To get the ruler: 1. Get it operating. Borders appear having tick marks. 2. At the intersection of the two borders (upper left) there is a white box. Click to turn it black. 3. Click and drag from anywhere to anywhere - you will get the distance in pixels. Works diagonally too. If you have previously drawn guide lines, it will snap to those. 4. To clear the ruler, click anywhere. To measure again, click and drag again.
Great, but as a lot of people are writing below, it doesn't appear to actually give you the measurements - Is this possible?
The reason i am giving 4stars is it doesn't allow me to check measurements in my local pages. Say for example a html file in my is not showing the ruler. Can you guys fix this issue? Thanks
Works as described. For those who can't get the ruler. All you have to do is click the little white square on the top left where the Horizontal and Vertical borders meet. This will activate the ruler.
Exactly what I wanted - basic rulers that worked like the grid lines in photoshop, Just needs a shortcut to access the extension insted of clicking on the icon.
Great for drawing line but It was supposed to MEASURE the distance between the two point like an actual ruler.
was looking for a ruler - on screen grid isn't useful to me
If it doesn't work for you immediately, don't bother troubleshooting. I've tried: - Restarting chrome - Restarting my machine - Visiting the support page (useless) If you're lucky and it works like it seems to for every second person, I'm happy for you...
simple & effective grid lines for aligning css. Not using as ruler though
It is awesome. It gives a nice work flow. It would be better if You add pixel measure unit inside it(top and left corner)
If this works, it's not intuitive. I followed the instructions and didn't get any measurements. If it was called "Grid Lines" then I would have no room for criticism. Rulers need to give measurements.
Very good app. Its save my time. Excellent!!
how to change color of lines
Draws line and nothing else. NO dimensions can't set PIXELS (the display unit of measurement). I read the instructions, clicked and clicked and clicked and shift clicked and shift clicked and shift clicked on lines and intersections--NOTHING. Maybe this just doesn't work in Chrome.
I needed a pixel count. I didn't realize that this extension doesn't do that. So to me this extension is useless as a ruler.
Would like to keep enabled with lines after page reloading
Does what it needs to do and does not ask for any special permissions. Could have a keyboard shortcut for toggling ruler mode.
Only thing missing is that the lines are persisted across page reloads and page navigation.
LOVE IT
I just confused to show how many px between two rules
There is no easy & fast way to remove all the rulers.
i love it
Description was not clear but it does the job perfectly than other rulers. During initial setup, found hard to bring those lines.
Simply great! It might be useful, if angle measurement is available.
Doesn't show dimensions
Doesn't give measurements and doesn't work when using developer tools
Wow, exactly what I was needed!!! Excellent and simple. Thank you for developing this!
Doesn't show the distance in pixels between two lines.
Not very helpful. Grabbing the guides seems to act funny, on click they seem to jump hundreds of pixels from their location... plus for absolute-positioned elements with high Z-Indexes, the guides seem to appear under the elements, making it useless. It's still a good extension, but these things should be fixed ASAP.
I could draw the grid lines but could not seem to enter ruler mode to make measurements.
It doesn't work when trying to make measurements in the browsers responsive mode
NOT WORKING
Easy to use. Better have option to switch measuring unit.
This is quite useful for designer however it needs to work in Device Mode, Preserve on refresh to be really useful and get 5 stars.
Nice work. Got exactly what I need for web development.
Did what I needed it to do. Also works with local files.
Went looking for a grid app and found this one. Never would have thought it would be so fine.
best ruler I've every came across for chrome.
it is not showing the distance
Very useful, serves its purpose.
It's ok but ruler need to have px measurements
Does not work in device mode. The rulers will show up but clicking and dragging does not create lines. May be because you can no longer turn off touchscreen emulation in device mode?
Simple, and useful. I use it in sizing/aligning graphics in Google docs & more. Yes, pixel readout would be nice.
Exactly what I needed. Optional measurements in pixels/ems would be a nice-to-have.
It doesn't measure the distance between two guides. I really wish it did.
Love it..
> Not able to move the straight line to the right part of the screen !!! > Not able to measure pixel value
I'd _very_ much appreciate a "Snap to Element" mode. Otherwise does as it claims. (Can't figure out "Ruler Mode" or even what it is... I followed the instructions per the description to no avail. Ahh well...) But otherwise this is a relatively useful lil extension, though if you're comfortable in the dev tools it's unlikely to become a necessity for you... Still, does a good job for quick visualizations.
It does what I want it to do.
Does not work with 'device mode' toggled on.
Nice little extension, would be great if it displayed the measurements.
It's ok but ruler need to have px measurements on it and needs option to be aligned to the centre of the screen. Would be good to also save presets, and generate grids in defined sizes. It takes ages to build a 50px grid then it's lost as soon as you refresh.
very simple yet powerful
Exactly what I wanted - basic rulers that worked like the grid lines in photoshop / fireworks. For this purpose its perfect.
Perfectly simple - just needed it to draw vertical and horizontal lines like photoshop; this extension does exactly that.
I simply love the simplicity of this tool, Though it can have more useful options but, it does what i wanted it to do, so thumbs up!!
Simple, but very useful. Much better than the skeuomorphic ones. One small simple improvement I would like to see is making the main rulers semi-transparent so I can see what's behind them.
This does exactly what I needed it to. I don't need a pixel count, just multiple lines to be able to test alignment in items on a webpage and in web video. Excellent!
Many Thanks, You saved me a lot of time :)
Would be good if the ruler showed pixels.
It doesn't show the distance between two margins, making it totally useless, please fix. Thanks!
