This extension is okay, despite being a legacy extension. However, it is not reliable in the default "auto" mode. To make this extension reliable, you should either: 1. Start recording a specific tab, then load the page, wait for the tags to fire and then stop the recording and view the results 2. Disable the auto mode, and enable the extension before you load any page on that tab. We've been debugging why Google Analytics 4 doesn't always fire on our pages, and after doing a lot of modifications and debugging we found that this extension was not reporting tags correctly in the default auto mode. I hope this helps others debugging their installations.
Bug report: This extension attempts to read document.body.nodeName, which is not guaranteed to exist. This pollutes my console with tons of errors on sites that have a null value for document.body. Also, the support forum link on this Chrome Web Store entry goes to a dead page.
used to be really handy but now doesnt show GA4 properties, not very useful
I am tried pre defined and custom method to remove ip address, but still its being shown in my data
Doesn't work well with AMP pages, can't detect Google Analytics installation
For some reason this ext blocks videos playing from BBC news
The new / non legacy version is now at https://tagassistant.google.com/ This could be more explicitly stated / linked to
It's really good tool but "Legacy" in title worries me, does anyone know where is not legacy option?
Personally, it's VERY helpful for my work. Thanks! +1 :D
How is this supposed to work? It doesn't appear anywhere; there's nothing to click. Useless, uninstalling now. POS.
Not working. After recording and uploading report, I am trap in signing in GA account.
Stay away from this extension. For Google Tag Manager it may falsely report that it is installed correctly why it isn't. A waste of time and resources.
Usefull, but sometimes it does not give you useful clues to find the problem. Another thing: it seems to be out of date as it is not detecting the installations of the Google Analytics 4 code. The fact that it is not supported prevents solving those "mysteries".
Works as expected, and very helpful for knowing which tags are firing on my website, FatCoupon dot com. Feel free to see the tags for yourself.
Good.
Does exactly what it say on the time. Nice and lightweight too.
Excellent, but I have problems in GOOGLE ANALYTICS REPORT, the error "There is some problem while generating the report".
this extension stops working nearly every day; i have to delete it and install it. i am running the latest version of chrome on the latest version of Mac OS. this seems to be a longstanding issue, as other users often mention a similar experience.
It tells me to 'Add Google Analytics' - it is added! I'm looking at my Realtime traffic right now, NOT very helpful at all. And I can't find any documentation explaining what to do if this is the case.
Managed to get around the 'request timed out, no response from GA' error. If you install a content security policy blocker and enable it the plugin will work again. I used this one but others will probably do the same https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-content-security/ieelmcmcagommplceebfedjlakkhpden?hl=en-GB
Great tool when it worked, currently can't use the full google analytics report as always get the error Request timeout, No response from GA.
Wish Google had better support for this tool. For some reason I'm not able to connect to my Google Analytics account via the Google Analytics Report ("Request timeout, No response from GA"). There is no online documentation for this error, nor any support team to reach out to making this tool useless.
There is an issue with the Google analytics report: It says "Request timeout, No response from GA." tried removing all other chrome plugins and reinstalling but still doesnt work, I think there is an issue with the tool.
Must have extension in our line of work.
This USED to be a 5-star tool, but it's very buggy and doesn't offer any helpful insight when trying to resolve errors. For example, for every single website we own/control Google Tag Assistant tells us that our GA Web Property ID has "Non-standard implementation", but it DOESN'T TELL YOU HOW TO FIX THIS AT ALL! What a worthless pile of junk! BTW, if you click on the "Support" tab, you'll just be directed to a broken Google+ page, since Google+ DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE! So basically, Google just told you to kick rocks, and screw your issues they are not interested in cleaning up the mess they created.
Popup tab is cut off strangely and does not show the full content. Re-installing doesn't solve the issue either. Currently un-useable
It's very helpful to checkout active Google tag on the website
Very helpful.
It has been freezing lately. Works well when it does work. Since September (2019) when I click on it there's about a 50/50 chance it'll just freeze up. Please fixy fixy 'cause we needy needy! Thanks Googs!
I like reports this extensions shows to you, however it still seems to be very buggy. A lot of people complaining about multiple installations and other issue for more than a year and it is still not fixed. I wish somebody put a notice in description that extension is not supported
Keeps crashing when I try to actually load the report making it useless. Even when no other plugin is loaded and when I tested it on 3 different machines, it always crashes. Nice plugin in theory, useless in practise.
Was great before, now it's working only 50% of the time... :(
Very helpful extension. Highly recommended.
Keeps crashing when trying to view the report. Pretty useless for anything more than simple tag presence checking.
Love it so much
Loved it up until recently. Currently using Chrome Version 73.0.3683.86 (Official Build) (64-bit). Every time i go to chrome settings to clear cookies, chrome shuts down. After disabling all extensions, I have narrowed it down to GTA causing the issue. I have to disable it before i can clear cookies.
It's an extremely useful extension for my job BUT, lately, it's been failing a lot, where I have to remove the extension and then re-install it. When it works, it's five stars. But when it fails, especially in the middle of a conference call with a client, it's not good.
I loved this extension at first and would still love it if it worked properly. At random times I click it and nothing happens, it just stops working, it doesn't matter what page I'm on or if I quit and reopen the browser it just completely stops working and the only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall. This happens A LOT and it's really annoying. Google, get it together, you are better than this, it is a simple extension, make it work!!!!!!!
awesome easy to used. thanks
Seems very unreliable/simple detection especially when working with single page apps. It shows same tag included multiple times (GTM or even GTag) but it's impossible from my end as it's only in the DOM once and on the first page hit. GTM preview mode clearly shows things firing as expected, but this tool doesn't reflect the same and sends you on a wild goose chase.
Useful extension... (y)
speechless
Great Tools for SEO.
50/50 the 'enable' or 'record' feature work - used to be a 100% reliable
Crashing my browser everytime it fires up
ok
It used to be amazing, like a microscope into your GA implementation
great ! perfec !
Perfect for the line of work i'm in.
thanhs you
Nice
Causes major problem navigating some websites (USAA for example)
This is awesome, It work as SEO related software
OTIMO
This tool has played a big part in helping em carry out my tasks on a daily basis. Really helpful and easy to use. Would highly recommend.
ABSOLUTELY NO SUPPORT
Great tool for SEO related work. Impressed with how it works and how simple it is to use.
nice
hardly works
Perfect for SEO professionals. Handy tool that does what it's supposed to!
good!
Cannot set up the extension as I can't click the Done button.
Cannot set up the extension as I am unable to click the Done button.
Could not instal the extension.
very unintuitive with some inconsistency
Does not even open the popup window properly. On top of that its one of the most confusing tools I even saw.
howtouseit?
I can't even use this extension because somehow the "Enable" and "Record" buttons are not clickable. In fact, nothing in the expanded menu is clickable.
Does nothing useful
It crashes almost every time. There is no way to read a report. It works once every 10 times.
Does exactly what it's supposed to, and does it well.
Great little tool
cpu and ram eater this must be improved vastly. other, it seems work.
heavy on resources, many glitches, too many times ignoring tags and calls.
Excellent debugger tool.
Doesnt stay open when using.
works for me! :)
It can be helpful when it works. It uses a crazy amount of CPU though. I often have to kill it and disable, just to be able to use my machine. It also will show GTM errors when there are none. Obviously out of date, and based on the dates of other reviews here, no one is supporting it anymore. Shame
is not working properly
Doesn't work correct can't click buttons or change values!
this is obviously out of date. unbelievably undocumented.
Used to work and now it's completely useless. Can't get through the initial setup. Can't click the "Done" button to complete the extension setup. Windows 10 Current Version of Chrome
Won't work for me. can't click the "done" button
Does what it says on the tin :)
Very useful extension to have.
UPDATE REQUIRED.
awesome
Really needs to be updated. It shows errors when everything is fine. Newer Google Tag Manager accounts have IDs with 7 characters instead of 6 which throws an error in Tag Assistant. Seems such a simple thing for Google to fix when it causes so much wasted time by users trying to fix things that aren't broken.
Just does not work
This extension having resolution problem, I cannot use it properly in external monitor
This is so good .
Gives false errors. Not helpful.
Useful Extensions
Does not always load on pages. Good when it actually works.
Out of date
It says my website has so many errors, but when I see the relevant 'help' page, the documentation says to ignore the error as things have changed. Please update the chrome extension to report proper errors.
Keeps eating up CPU power on Mac Out of date GTM check
It used to be amazing back when it output the debug data to the Console. Now it in theory outputs debug data to a special report, BUT: 1. Debug is off by default 2. If I try to turn it on, it immediately turns back off. The main reason I use this is to fix cross-domain tracking issues and you can longer do it with this extension since the update because you cannot get the clientId parameter. Also, as people have noted, it doesn't seem to work with GTM. Even though on one domain I'm loading analytics.js with GTM and on the other I load it directly, it says that I have different libaries. It used to be amazing, like a microscope into your GA implementation. Now it's useless. The other thing that sucks about losing the Console output is that you used to be able to write your own Javascript in the Console that would test for or manipulate the variables. Now since this doesn't output to Console at all, even when it works right, it's got less utility. This seems to be an attempt to dumb it down for people who don't know how to access the Console, but in the process, they totally broke the plugin. I wish I could get the old one back!
A year ago was extremely useful, now is out of date, giving wrong feedback.
Potentially extremely useful; but its out of date and you have to dig through other outdated google pages to reconcile the problems it finds.
Please align the Tag Assistant with Google Tag Manager. There's a know impedance since last year where tag assistant says "Invalid or missing account ID" while everything is actually OK. That's a horrible false positive. This explains my issue https://plus.google.com/u/0/+SimoAhava/posts/WVSWfxpjScj?sfc=true (sorry for the 1 star, it's the only way I think I can reach out about this)
Terrible! Shows an error for a perfectly valid container - you have to click through to the documentation to see that the tag assistant can't validate container IDs with more than six digits. Does not display non-GA tags, even though they are clearly loading and visible in debugging mode. Session recording crashed and took my data with it. This extension is a mess.
Highlights problems but offers no explanation as to what you might do with it or whether you should even care. No idea what a "floodlight" is. If it's broken it's because Google Adsense isn't working. What am I meant to do about it?
