SPAM! PHISHING! VIRUS! DO NOT DOWNLOAD! This extension automatically added itself to my Chrome browser and it won't remove from my extension. The extension collects sensitive data (passwords, personal/identifiying information) without your consent and is not transparent about what it does with YOUR info. DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

Used this extension for a very long time to detect what sites would be potentially malicious and helped me stay safe. now it seems that whatever update they made to it completely broke it and its no longer functional, pretty disappointing. Choosing to use malwarebytes instead now.

I really liked this extension because it helped me stay away from unsafe websites. However, recently it has stopped working and only shows spinning circles instead of green checkmarks/red xs or nothing at all. I don't know why it isn't showing these anymore, and no one seems to know why when I ask.

It works I guess. I have paid for actual Webroot security so it works fine. I was able to remove it (this is my personal laptop) just fine without any issues. I'm not sure why it is such a problem for others. It has never blocked me from a website although I don't often go to sketchy websites. It tends to mark websites as yellow for Caution quite often. It marked the Capitol One site and some Scholarship sites with the yellow. It shows green on many anime streaming websites which I would usually assume to be sketchy. I'm not sure if it actually works. Some of my college websites are even marked with a yellow.

This doesn't sound like a bad extension, but it is annoying and it just doesn't make sense to have it automatically put on chrome with no way to get rid of it. I have been using chrome for a number of years and never had this problem until now. I AM the administrator of my account, so it would be nice if they could just let me delete the dang extension. I have submitted a report to google complaining about it, but I'm not sure what they will do.

Worst extension ever! How it got installed is the first mystery as I did not install it. Why I cannot get it uninstalled is another. It is blocking sites, causing disk to thrash, slows down downloads... what a mess. Someone fix this already!

Is there anyone else who is just feeling like the company Webroot is just giving you the run around. I have looked and ticketed this even on their own site to try and find a reasonable solution to remove what frankly at this point is a virus on my pc. At this point i'm just honestly considering legal action. I gave neither consent nor authorization for this extension to be installed. I will be reasonable for only the remainder of the month of October after that i will consider it to be a matter to be dealt with in the courts.

Purchased this product because a cybersecurity company I worked at once used it. But the Chrome plugin now only shows spinning load animation for all pages in Google. And lists sites I'm currently developing as risky. So take it all with a grain of salt really.

I hate webroot so much. It has been on my PC since I got it and has slowed it down and prompted me with many updates and meaningless scans. My subscription was for 3 months yet this has been stuck on my laptop for years! Years! I have uninstalled the product went through system files and deleted every product. But its still stuck to my Chrome browser as an extension asking me for a validation key. Leave me alone!

Terrible extension. Shows false positives constantly. I have now had 2 of my sites in search results in 1 week that are showing an orange warning from webroot but there is NO malware. This is not good as it stops people going to visit the site. It also wastes website owners time by making us check Sucuri etc to find out it's just a false positive.

noko59 April 30th, 2019

No option to turn off the extension, refuses to be removed. Got rid of Webroot years ago, which was trash, then discovered this lingering around on Chrome. Pure BS. If you open it up it has this tidbit - have no clue what it really does but this does not sound right: Permissions Read and change all your data on the websites you visit Manage your downloads Really looks like spyware monitoring what you are doing.

For people complaining about the search engine checkmarks - you can turn them off. Open the Webroot app -> click on "Advanced settings" button -> Select "Firewall / Web shield" -> un-check "Show safety ratings when using search engines". You can also go into Chrome settings -> extensions -> and un-click "enabled" to disable the Webroot Filtering Extension altogether, although that would not be a good idea security-wise. Personally, I like the website rating feature and am glad most antivirus software includes it these days. I have had no problems with Webroot or this extension in particular. It's light on resources and does what it's supposed to. It always amazes me how people complain about things they don't even know how to use.

Worst piece of garbage I've ever encountered and they make sure that you can never easily remove it from your Google Chrome bar. Spent hours trying to get rid of it and it sticks to your computer like mold. And you can't get a hold of anyone to give you simple instructions on how to remove it.

Excellent tool for those that don't know what they're doing on the Internet. For those that do, it's an annoyance. Despite being installed via "enterprise policy" (as my workplace has done) it can still be removed assuming your Windows user account has the right permissions.

A Google User April 11th, 2017

The 'rating' is suspicious at best. It only appears to be based upon whether or not they've seen a particular site before. Common sites get rated as suspicious without any basis, rendering its value as useless. That and manipulating contents in-situ is a no-no. Just warn me if I'm navigating to a truly dangerous site.

Shelby McDermott March 25th, 2017

Awful. Installed itself and declares websites malicious at random, including my college websites and my bank. There seems to be no way to uninstall this or disable it in the extension screen like a normal extension. I will not be purchasing Webroot again, pushing this kind of irritating plugin onto their customers is beyond the pale and I don't want to support the kind of company that thinks this is okay. As soon as my current subscription runs out, I'm switching to another software.

when I was starting up a game it asked me this random file and it said if you wanted to block it or not and I didn't know if it was something bad so I blocked but then when the game was done it said bunch of random stuff like "HttpOpenRequest failed for GET" and "Error Code: 6." now I can't start up the game and i'm stuck with a game that I love that doesn't even start up. I think i'm being really nice for giving a 2/5 then a 1/5.

Nathan Wicker February 21st, 2017
Nathan Wicker

Intrusive interface which adds green check marks all over Google searches. A dialogue pops up when you mouse over a check mark and covers the search result, making it irritating to try to click on the desired search result. It would be much more usable if the pop up required clicking on the check mark. Another potential improvement would be to get rid of the green check marks and only show warnings when a risk is actually detected. Since some people may find the check marks comforting, it would be great if they could be disabled by an option in the extension settings.

Raises a JQuery exception in Chrome Web Tools every time I try to open a localhost webpage. I know it is the extension's fault because there are no issues in incognito windows. But if I enable the extension to work in incognito mode, the same error occurs. And I can't uninstall it because company policies. Condemned.

The Mighty Peng December 5th, 2016
The Mighty Peng

This 'web reputation' system is either completely broken or has been co-opted by a 'third party' into blocking legitimate websites, many of which relate to privacy such as torproject.org which is absolutely ridiculous. It claims that torproject.org "is a high risk site. There is a high probability that you will be exposed to malicious links or payloads." which is demonstrably false. The security suite itself is great, this feature isn't.

Good extension, my only suggestion is that there should be options to turn features on or off. Like blocking certain sites if they go below a certain rating. Or removing the icons that indicate the site's reputation. And for all of you asking how to remove it, just right click on the icon, then click "remove". It's a very simple process

I just want to get rid of it, it's useless and annoying Have used Adblock to block the green ticks - now I only get the warnings if a website is "suspicious" (which btw includes most small company/personal websites - what am I supposed to do, not look at them? What is the point of all this?!) You need to sort out some level of configuration! Who needs to be told that a website is safe? If it's safe, just let me get on with my day without giving me a headache.

Michael Perkins II November 29th, 2016
Michael Perkins II

Distracting, irritating, and no available options. The garish giant checkmarks detract from the information, reduce productivity by requiring significantly more effort to read past these distracting symbols, and have misidentified some sites as possibly malicious. Program/extension was installed by contracted IT group, and I have no option to disable or change the appearance. A significantly more transparent interface would be an improvement, allow a user to focus on what they were doing, and also not make the user feel like a child. Some configurables should be accessable when group installed.
