As(s)-Pera. Aptly named after the developers.
Rarely works
cant connect its been a week trying to figure this out. lame af
besides the Chernobyl 1986 User Experience, it does not work. Upload keeps failing with cryptic message. It would be a bad joke, yet it's real. I'd like to time machine myself in the meeting room where the CTO announced to the room: "we're going to manage our traffic with ASPERA!"
Terrible terrible experience. I have wasted so much time trying to get my browser to detect the extension. This is agonising.
This is the worst piece of software I have used in my life. What use is high speed transfer when you end up spending 10 hours getting this piece of trash to work
Never works as expected. Always has problems and still need an additional download
This sucks. Why do I need a browser extension TO DOWNLOAD A FILE?!
Terrible customer experience and UI. Hate how forced to use the extension or cannot download
Screwed my PC. Worst cloud product ever. IBM deserve to fade into irrelevance with this effort.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have opened my inbound and outbound TCP & UDP ports, and have checked using cmd to make sure that they are open, but it keeps saying "Your TCP ports are likely blocked."
Does this actually work? Basically only have it to work with FEMA MIP service and it only works in Internet Explorer...
I dont know why the software cannot be installed successfully, EVERY time!!! That make me cannot use the whole function whether the plugin or the software! Shitttt!
On Linux, fails to launch and interact with the local client. The console logs: "Could not initialize Connect. Error: Connect 3.9+ was detected but is not responding to extension requests. Check native message host registration."
Terrible functionality, no fixes or stability improvements
Total garbage! Does not work with Safari. Have tried installing multiple times with no success.
Annoying having to download software to receive transfers
I honestly do not understand any of the negative reviews. I am running Chrome on Ubuntu and have had no issues downloading datasets from The Cancer Imaging Archive. I don't normally leave reviews but I was surprised to see so many 1 star reviews. Works fine.
Aspera wants to run all the time. It's not a background application either. Force quit? No dice, it just respawns ... and respawns ... and respawns. We're past the days where something has to be running 100% of the time when you use it 0.001% of the time. Let me quit the app when it's not needed! Also, restating what others have said already, I download multi-gigabyte files in the browser now -- I don't need an archaic app for this. The only reason I have to use this ridiculous app is to appease some CIO's delusional belief that this app is more secure for file sharing than the 1MM other options available today. I use this so infrequently, I'll delete the app to get it to quit and reinstall as needed -- can't believe it's the end of 2021 and I need to say that.
You guys at IBM are perfect defintion of "big for nothing" .Fix it!
As far as I can tell, this does absolutely nothing. After installing the extension and the application, both of which work independently, I still get messages saying that I need to install the application. Even when the application is open and running, no downloads start.
Useless piece of garbage that belongs to 2005. You need to download a 2MB file? Any modern website: Click HERE. Aspera Connect: Sorry mate, first download this extension, then some random unsafe offline app, then it won't work so you need to try firefox and maybe then it will work.... or maybe not
Doesn't work! Can't even install connect on my app, can't believe such a huge company like IBM has such a bad software
I just don't get it. I followed the instructions, installed the extension, then installed the second part of software on my laptop. But it won't connect. It says "Get the latest version' and then it appears that the version downloaded from pop-up is not the latest. Ok, downloading and installing the latest one. Is it working? Nope. Starting the diagnostics and it won't even bother to finish. Never. Testing ports? Disabled all the time. Troubleshooting tips start with 'If you're using Windows' and ending right there. And if I'm using Ubuntu? No troubleshooting tips? It shouldn't take THAT much time to configure and set a working environment.
It say unable to connect either I had reinstall all
I must install twice until succeed. every time i upload more than 1 file the next file always error. so i must upload manually one by one. it's completely useless.
Getty Images provide this as a must install to download paid/licensed media. How hard can it be? Well, it says to add extension, you click on it, and says "Error not Found". Repeat what appears to be a simple process and you spin your head and repeat the rinse cycle. This is ridiculous when things like WeTransfer, Dropbox or other direct download offerings are out there. This should be dummy proof.
Terrible app. Why do I need an extension to download a 20mb file.
useless
This has only ever worked in IE11 for me. No support for Chrome above v80 - we're on 83 (also Edge Chromium). Firefox version support is also way behind - 73 vs current version 76. From an enterprise-grade package used globally the update cadence is just lacklustre. Would never recommend this solution
It only worked once.
Honestly this is absurd that you have to use an extension with full browser access in order to utilize Aspera. What about dark sites? IBM has hurt Aspera Faspex, not helped...
This "solution" simply does not work! Followed instructions ... run the software ... Launching IBM Aspera Connect... never ends ... FAIL ... Uninstall > Reinstalled > Try > Fail > Uninstall > Reinstalled > Try > Fail > ... repeat until insane ... good thing i do not have a deadline ... oh wait I DO and can't get data to my client ... going back to ftp ... old fashioned but works.
Extremely frustrating piece of software to support. We get calls from the same users over and over when trying to send something and getting the message that they need to the latest version but, it is installed and launched. Never could this to work with the previous version of Edge but just tried it with the chromium version of Edge. I can finally get it to work on the windows side but, not on the Mac side. Having Mac users use Chrome or Firefox for now.
It is useful but operational efficiency still needs to be approved. We are having a lot of issues managing control. Also, by default it gets access to modify all sites not just api.ibmaspera.com which smells a bit like suspicion. I am in the middle of opening a support case to get help on some usage issues..in the wait so far. But it looks very promising as it can allow a lot of producitivty -- no question
It was good while it worked. All of a sudden it's not dowloading anything from the same site and the same PC I've been using it on for some months now. Tried everything I could think of. The site's tech support can't figure out the problem either. Too bad it went bad(((
It's not working. Could not be detected even if it's already installed
How do I upload files on gdrive using this?
In what universe dude.
Aspera is the fastest, most secure way to transfer data over the internet
