Breaks some websites without the ability to exclude it. Example is Firebase "App Distribution" page, which it ruins its ability to just download APK files.

Works but only half-heartedly. Creates big issues when logging in with several sites and esp., with google sites and where google login is present. Plus a lot of sites detect this as adblocker so either I have disable this or leave that site. I don't know why dev hasn't provided any whitelist or blacklist option. Waiting for better update in 2023.

Needs a whitelist feature

As someone else has also noted, this extension breaks Google Oauth sign-in - I started seeing 'Something went wrong' errors in the Oauth sign in flow for all sorts of things (Google Drive desktop app etc). Hope this can get fixed!

A simple basic feature, "whitelisting a website", doesn't even have it! Google trends break :/

it's hit or miss for me, i can go to amazon for example and click on some items and they will have the full url string but going back 5 minutes later and all of the urls are clean.

Excellent extension, but lacks a whitelist or any other configurability for when it breaks sites.

I kind of forgot I had installed this until it started causing problems in Amazon. I could not go through checkout without an error and had to open Edge to complete my order. Also gave me errors in a survey page on Amazon. Otherwise I haven't checked about tracking, but this is a big nuisance.

The extension technically works but the rule sets are nowhere near comprehensive enough. Most websites I visit still have lots of tracking elements in the URL. Unless there's a group of dedicated individuals committed to maintaining comprehensive rule sets (like with adblockers), unfortunately extensions like these will never be very useful.

I really, really wanted to like this. Unfortunately, when I put in a long, annoying URL with lots of tracking code junk at the end, it only removed a little bit of it. Most of it still remained attached! I ended up removing this app, as it was of no use to me. I Googled to find a site that can do this one simple thing. I'm happy with URLClean.com which does exactly what it says on the tin.

I liked this extension until today when I found that it was disrupting Google OAuth logins, causing them to fail with an error "Something went wrong...". It took me many hours to diagnose that it was this extension that was causing the problem, including chatting with Google Support, but once I disabled this extension, the Google OAuth logins work again. If the developers can fix this problem, I may use the extension again.

The icon appears in the toolbar but goes away if I try to click on it. What's the use of having it if I cannot use it or even access it???

Breaks some functionality on the web console for Amazon Web Services. I have to turn it off in the IAM section or else I can't load or change any data. Seems to work fine other than that.

This extension broke my ability to login to other websites with my Google account using OAuth since it strips out something important from the querystring.

Whitelist mode would be great. Only options to choose from is all websites or enter all websites manually.

This extension unconditionally appends a random equals sign to the anchor part of the URL. That is harmful and breaks things like GitHub line highlighting.

Clear URL is a must addon for everyone who is using any browsers. Using for it years. But lately it has fallen from its idea. I still see tracked and extra stuff in URL apart from the search, title or query. Also this addon doesnt work well in chrome and especially opera browser (Also couldnt find this addon opera addon store - https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/search/?query=Clear+URL) despite opera based on chromium engine. I use this addon for search engine results from google and online shopping and links shared by others but see it not working anymore like google search or even ddg search where browser and extra stuff is in the url. I hope dev sees the shortcomings and improve it and bring it to opera store. Same with yandex browser. Also improve your addon for firefox store which I dont think gets updates as much as chrome store. Also using this on kiwi browser android (https://kiwibrowser.com/). Thanks.

Missing one essential feature: a whitelist. This extension is making my Twitter not load, I've checked and it's the only extension messing it up. Add a whitelist, and it's a 5 star.

Was perfect until 2 days ago. Starting from Saturday, I cannot login to Amazon, and also Google Scholar is broken.

not working within latest versions of chrome (or any chrome based browser) disabling the filter function fixes this temporarily but a permanent fix is needed

All the sudden my chrome did not open any page. After disabling one by one I found this addon as a culprit.

Effectively useless. It does nothing what the developer claims. There's a "copy clean link location" in the context menu which doesn't copy the link, nevermind a clean link. Try it out yourself and you'll see. I copy a link but it still s hows the hidden or shortened link 99.99% of the time. The extension should automatically copy the link in your clipboard and clean it, but no it doesn't. Even when you copy a link and it sends you to a webpage (you need to have the extension installed to access the webpage) it rarely cleans it. I have to use a URL "revealer" to see and go to the actual link. If anyone finds this extension works they are either lying, using it on very simple urls, or friends (missionaries) of the developer. Uninstalled. Uninstalled.

I really like this extension. I wish you could set domains to ignore though.

Check the bug report I opened here https://github.com/ClearURLs/Addon/issues/148 this is a huge deal breaker that messed up my flow until I tried out "Neat URL" instead. Neat URL doesn't have any bugs I've encountered, but the built-in filter isn't as powerful and I also haven't figured out how to make the custom filter work.

Arbitrarily removes query parameters from URLs (e.g. if they are named REF) on the vague assumption that they are always malicious and never valid for a website to function. There doesn't appear to be a straight forward way to see what it blocks/rewrites to allow the user to flag false positives either.

Not bad...but two suggestions: 1. make it more lightweight, since many similiar extensions/add-ons are lightweight... 2. it just cuts URL for my browser only but when I'm copying the same link and messaging it to someone else, I'm still sending them the Long URLs in the message!!! If I can't send them short/actual URL, then this extension only do the partial job done. Please fix.

This fixed Amazon and AliExpress URLS immediately after installation. Neat URL did not, although that one currently has better ratings.

Great idea, but seriously flawed: 1. No way to add custom rules. 2. No way to whitelist. 3. Blocks Google Drive video player. I'm using Neat URL instead. Less capable, but more reliable.

Absolutely love it! If it's recommended by PrivacyTools.io, it's good on my book. If you haven't checked them out, they have other solid privacy recommendations.

ClearURLs cuts out a lot of garbage in URLs and I appreciate that, but its "Domain Blocking" setting being on by default is WAY OUT OF LINE. I did not expect an extension that cleans up URLs to block Amazon completely, instead I expected it to clean up the Amazon URLs like the extension description states.

Great tool, but would be significantly more useful if turning it off to fix websites that get broken wouldn't turn it off for the whole browser. It's easy to forget to turn it on since I'm so used to ublock and privacy badger managing to remember which sites I've allowed and which sites I haven't

Good to have this but I'm only giving 3stars because it falls short. There is so much more this could be in the spirit of saving the user from having to install 4 more extensions to get the functionality they need from their chrome browser. I don't mean to sound ungrateful and yet ''this'' is all we get. Comon now, more please.

This one really works and others not so well. You can see the URL change and take you to your intended site

Great extension, but can be a bit overzealous in that it seems to break Stripe.js, which is unfortunate since it's a payment provider that's being used on a lot of sites: Took me a few hours before I figured out it was this extension that broke a call to https://js.stripe.com/v3/. I got an error that read "It looks like Stripe.js was not loaded correctly." I fixed it by choosing 'On specific sites' in settings and adding Google and Amazon.com manually. Figured I'd post this here for any other developer that comes across this in the future (probably me a few years from now :) )

Does what it says and seems to really clean things up in Chrome. Coupled with Click&Clean, browsing is now in good shape. Nice work!

Basically, this is the only extension I can find, which actually works in the Chrome web store. Others can't work or will be in vain on some websites. Why only 26 ppl rate this extension? Should have more. Just use it, and contribute some rule suggestions on the support page after all if necessary.

Glad I finally found this extension! ClearURLs is the only privacy extension I need in Brave after the update to v. 1.16.0! Bravo!

Great extension. It works on removing UTM garbage on URLs and you'll get the real links.

the best one. I tested a few. This works. The only extension thac can handle Aliexpress.com because it does the harder method: "tracking injection over history API (See also: The replaceState() method)". Thank you. You are a genius.

This extension broke Cmd+Click on Google results. Instead of opening the result on a new tab, it would both open it in the current tab AND a new tab. Took me days to figure out that it was this extension causing it and not some weird Google update. Thankfully, disabling it fixed it. Uninstalling :/
