Speechify is a game-changer for our ADHD family. It helps us to focus on blocks of text that would otherwise be a breeding ground for distractibility. Having both visual and auditory stimuli helps cement the information in our memory. I love the screenshot option for websites that dont play well with speechify.

it works marvelously! but the server is down sometimes so the website 'app.speechify.com' won't load up. That's only a concern if you wish to read uploaded pdfs. apart from that it's good.
doesnt work on anything. windows 11. updated chrome. nothing works. the voices are 90% bootleg 1990's sounding computer audio. immediately canceling
This is a great app! But I wish that the premium wasn't so expensive.
Other TTS plugins can't locate all text in websites. This one just finds it or has the multiple options to import text.

Speechify is an amazing tool that I would recommend as a student. There are countless assignments, articles, or websites that I have Speechify read to me while I code (I am a Computer Science student) - which helps me cover course content while working on my assignments. Amazing product!
This app at first is pretty good. The voices are good and theres a lot of control over the voice. However, it only took about 5-15 mins before it stopped reading any text whatsoever because it wanted me to create a login and use that. There is literally no reason to force me into making a login for this service when i already had it working, and it works without creating an account. Seems kinda scummy to be honest, i think im just gonna go back to read aloud and or TTS for Google extensions.

I have a visual disability and am grateful for a service that easily provides accommodation for the many materials that are online.
I research a lot of material online and in PDFs and take advantage of the mobile and web versions of Speechify; I can't count the hours I've saved ingesting information at speeds I feel comfortable with which range from 2.x to 4.x speeds which help me be a lot more productive than I would have been without Speechify; also the selection of voices is wonderful as most sound quite natural and easy to understand even at very high speed! I recommend this to anyone that spends a lot of time researching material as I do!

I have always struggled with reading and never feel like doing it. For years, I have tinkered with and tried out many free options to read websites and documents, but I struggled to find a solution that would let me have ANYTHING read aloud, including screen shots! Speechify has come to me during a time when I thought I would have to quit my job and give up. I am grateful that the people who work at Speechify even reached out when I gave up on learning how to use the technology. It can be challenging to learn new technology, but they sent me screenshots of how to use it and there's even an option to send along recommended features! I look forward to more voices being added and improvement in the voices as I work bilingually and so I opt to use a voice that will smoothly transition whether it reads to me in French or En!glish, but not all work flawlessly (yet). The Speechify team seems super open to iteration and improvement - so I look forward to seeing how this app only continues to improve my life & get better with the community offering feedback! :) Thank you Speechify for helping me love reading and being able to start to close the endless tabs I keep open and stop avoiding all the emails I am worried about reading!

Really useful idea, and it worked reasonably well. But it doesn't work with A03 (my core use for it). And in the past month, it's started causing Chrome to crash repeatedly (I ruled out all other extensions). It's been long enough for it to be fixed, so I'm uninstalling before it destroys more of my work.
Hmmm... that was a good discovery. I've been looking for a text-to-speech browser plugin for quite a long time. I think I finally found the one that really fits my needs and my qulaity bar... cool!

My vision is pretty low, and I want to prevent loosing it. Speechify helps me to read out loud texts while I rest. Internet should be accessible, and I like that Speechify helps to achieve that.

I like the convenience of clicking on the chrome extension for Speechify and the activation windows pop up. Then you are off and running after one or two clicks.
Great app with voices that almost sound human. Really good for studying long text that induce eye fatigue and brain shutdown (dozing off). I am in free trial period. Will see if I like it enough to subscribe. It sounds much better than the free ones available but seem bit expensive for my student budget.
The free version worked fine, enabling my legally blind mother to listen to Facebook text for some months now. Just two or three days ago it stopped working. The 'read this to me' icon under Facebook text is still there but it no longer does anything. I tested on another computer but it seems to require creation of an account, which it did not before. I notice that the version posted to Google Web store has a March 27 date on it, which is about when this problem started. Coincidence?
I love this extension. I'm an audtory reader. Hearing what I'm reading makes it easier to retain what I've read. This extension works flawlessly on most webpages. It makes reading long texts easier on the eyes and easier to remember what I've read. Extermely useful for a free extension.

The Most Useful Extension I Use I use speechify on a regular basis. I utilize this tool to read what I have written. It helps me listen to my writing to catch errors that are easily overlooked.
Very disappointed. This extension does not work on my son's school site because it is a password protected site. I have to delete it and find an alternative.
It's fantastic, really helps me focus on what I'm reading. There are a few bugs that I've experienced, but it may be because of the Vivaldi browser. Nothing that restarting the browser wouldn't fix, but it was enough for me to need to stop using it for a second. For instance, when trying to update the playback speed on click, the slider would follow the cursor up and down regardless of if the mouse was down or not (This was after trying to adjust the speed just for clarification. It's definitely not game breaking and I still use it. I'm sure it will continue to get better and better as time goes on. Thanks guys for the great extension!

This software has been my lifesaver! As someone with ADHD, my mind can wander faster than a squirrel on espresso. But with this bad boy, I can stay on task and finish a document without my thoughts running off to plan my next vacation. It's like having a mental leash for my overactive brain!

super effective way to get through something you probably don't want to read through. a little less advertised hack is that as the words that are being spoken you the words are highlighted along the way so you can increase your reading speed and you will likely get through the entire document or whatever you're hearing/reading. So you're listening and reading at the same time effectively improving comprehension, Improving your reading speed as you follow along the word highlighter, and you will likely finish the document faster before you know it

I started using Spotify for my online classes because I noticed how much I was going to be needing to read. I know that I wouldn't be able to be successful in reading as much material I did without Spotify. It has been my life saver. I also noticed with following along with the reading material I have begun to read faster as well without the need in reading every single word, like reading between the lines and still understanding. Thanks to Spotify, I can get through reading in a flash and still learn. Thank you.
I was using other speech extensions before because of my headaches with screens, but with Speechify both the quality of the voice and the UI were game changers for me. The quality of the speech makes it easier to pay attention while washing dishes, etc. and also to speed it up. I can easily click on the text and use the UI to pause and change location. I also love that it comes up automatically which helps motivate me, remember to use it, not worry about shortcut keys, and feel motivated to listen to things I open. Cheers to fewer headaches and more learning!

I really like it, nearly perfect for my usage, only thing that I would like to see change is removing of reading out links, was having a long document with links attached every paragraph which was a bit annoying.

As a blogger this app is a great way to get a final read on your writing before you press publish. It is a tool I use frequently, and appreciate the convenience. It still has some bugs but overall for anyone needing a final "out loud" read of your writing, highly recommended.

I use Speechify extension for college papers/e-textbooks. Works great, with a few caveats: (1) Bullet/numbered lists will be read as if one single sentence if they do not end with a punctuation mark, which is jarring to hear, (2) Text in figures or tables will be rough and all over the place, be ready to mash that skip button, and (3) Could work better with dark mode themes, for example the highlight is a little dark against a dark background in Chrome, while it blocks out the words entirely in Edge.

I love this app. It is an excellent way to get your reading done in a timely matter.
Worked for maybe an hour or 2 but then the only buttons that worked were the close button or link to get premium. The highlighting mechanic lagged behind and didn't focus on the correct words 30ish minutes after I first started using it then the highlights just stopped showing up all together. I cant find anything to fix this and its ruined the experience. The worst part is that it was actually helping me get a lot done when it was working.
I use it all the time. Its great. Worth the cost absolutely.
Terrible, you can only use it for three days before you have to pay for it and it doesn't even function properly. I'm trying to read a textbook for my uni class but the ai skips every second page. Not to mention that there is ZERO functionality to skip to a certain page, so if what you need to read is on page number 1300, you will have to manually scroll through 1300 pages everytime you open the program.
Overall it is a great program. I have found that it will not read every page, but in most instances it works good. I only have the free version, which might explain why there are some limitations. I don't know if I have come across a better reading program than this one.

Plugs in neatly into the browser. Has made me very productive and I am able to complete a text based course much faster. The most affordable paid app as per my research (INR 1000 per year). Would suggest to integrate pauses between sentences and paragraphs, so that it allows the reader time to process.

I paid $140 dollars for a year premium subscripton and twice now the premium voices have just randomly stopped being accessible. I have been waiting for two days to hear from support when it says it should take 12 hours tops for a response. I am severely disappointed with this app.
Just started using it and it helps my ADHD brain stay on the task at hand getting through reading a long email or document in a single sitting rather than getting distracted.
I have issues with my eyes that makes reading challenging to one degree or another, depending on the fonts used and the contrast between the font color and background color of a website or PDF. Speechify helps by reading through the things that sometimes trip me up. It also has increased my reading speed to over 500 words per minute. Speechify doesn't always catch everything, but the PDF format is a beast and can be misused by PDF authors, so I think it is impressive that Speechify reads through these documents as well as it does. The service is definitely worth paying for, in my opinion.
This has helped my focus for reading textbooks and research articles as well as increased my retention of information. Must have for auditory learners.
I have ADHD. Just reading something on my own or listening to it ('it' being the thing that doesn't interest me) is incredibly difficult. But adding this allows me to hear and read along for work so I fully understand what is being sent to me. My work emails are usually really long so this saves me from having to reread them over and over.

A mist have I don't know how I lived without it before. I have dyslexia, and the nature of my job requires me to read a lot. Speechify has not only increased my productivity and made consuming text more enjoyable. I've also noticed it has made me a better listener. All in all worth trying, especially if you have a learning disability.

This is the closest thing to Kurzweil I have found, and I actually like the voices better. I do wish there was an outlining and highlighting option. But I really love this program so far.

I love this product but it does seem a bit buggy at times, however I am using one of the beta voices. I can't wait to see what this product will become. It is the only product I can tolerate to read aloud to me and is absolutely worth the price, when it is working well. It can even read pdf files of books that are easily uploaded into the web app. Then you can see these files on the mobile apps as well so wherever you go you have your own personal library and someone to read it to you with great voices and text highlighting. This makes reading a joy and I think it helps me stay focused. Try it! You will like it!!
Free version can only do 1,500 words. They could have free users only use very basic features but it just surprised me they don't considering there are so many free tools.
This extension is good. I liked it, but when the extension reads a paragraph, it will not read some words. My only request is to improve this extension in reading the paragraph and not leave any other words to read.

Where all these 5 star fewviews are coming from I have no clue! Yeah, the premise of this app is awesome but the app itself is just awful. They are constantly updating the app and it's buggy as hell. It freezes all the time on android. They just did an update to the web app and you've lost the ability to add new content. They need to get their stuff together and test out their product before they are launching "new features." I want to love this, but it is entirely too buggy and broken to do so.

Where do I start? I will start right when I attempt to load the website. Finally when I get to it, I sit and wait about 3 minutes for my readings to appear. I click on my reading I want and then am able to go out for a night on the town and come back to my computer and wait another 4 hours and then usually my reading appears and the words are somewhat loaded. After that, I get the joy of trying to select the voice I want, after selecting the reader voice I want, I then go back out on the town for another night while the voice loads. When that's finally ready, I then get the fun experience of scrolling all the way back down through my reading to find where I left off- because why would it save your spot in the book right? After that process completes I select where I want the voice over to start reading, After I select that spot, I will usually take a 4 day road trip and comeback to the computer and then the voice over will start to read after finally loading for literal hours. The voicer over will then read the words but after every sentence/period it likes to stop and pause, think for about 20 minutes and then continue the next sentence and repeat... In between each paragraph, I like to take a week vacation to Paris since thats about how long the voice over takes to switch between sections in the text. Moral of the story is that this is a complete laughing stock of a website. I canceled my subscription before it could charge me $139 for this horrible experience. As a person with ADHD this is not the website for people like me, it is rage inducing, unreliable, and there is no way you read faster with this site then your own brain, no matter of what mental challenges one might face. After attempting to give this site a chance, I am more prone to heart attacks and strokes now. May God be with any users of Speechify.

Terrible app. I do not understand any of the reviews. Every document I have tried listening to I do not understand. It would be one thing if it was free, but it's beyond overpriced. Especially targeting students with a promise to help with homework? It sucks, its buggy, and these 5 star reviews are a joke.

The premium version has so much value to students with a lot of online reading to do for classes but with that said, I can't recommend it for the $30/month price tag. Would be more beneficial if all it's services were free, at least to students.

So buggy. Crashes nearly every use. Not compatible with most of the pages I need it for, so I end up using their clunky local document feature, which can't be edited. I end up using a free speech to text tool just as often because this thing refuses to work properly. The voices are actually amazing, outside of that the product is awful. Not worth the frustration let alone the high price.
first off, i don't dislike speechify per se, but i have to agree with mr bot, who mentioned edge does the same for free a few pages in, which i didn't even know before. and overall i'd say speechify is too expensive, has word limitations with premium voices, you notice "incentives" designed to push upgrading on you everywhere, the ui/ux could be improved as well in some aspects... ok, snoop dog or john cleese as a voice is a usp, true dat... but seriously, have you tried making edge read a website to you? i'm honestly re-thinking using chrome as my main browser right now, just because the TTS in edge is working so amazingly right out of the box, no extra installs, no errors, completely natural speech, fluid like nothing i heard before from TTS voices, not even from speechify... come to think of it, aren't you using the same windows voices here as well? because in speechify i still got small skips and breaks, no matter which voice i used, while edge was like someone read the text to me live and in person in comparison. just try it and compare both apps yourself, if you're on windows. highly recommended and really free.

I absolutely love this extension but currently it is skipping the last word or two of sentences, completely randomly. I submitted an issue weeks ago, and have only heard back to get the same useless troubleshooting advice, but the problem persists. I'm rating this 1 star for now in the hopes that this will help get the issue resolved. Currently, this is not useable for me as a screen reader because of this issue.

My entire life have tried to break the habit of reading word by word in my head. I never made it. I managed OK. I was talking to a fellow learner a while back and she said "Then don't try to break that habit. In fact, read out loud, maybe that is your learning style." Speechify saves my vocal chords. Alas there are some e-books it does not work with but it does work with my Kindle so I can use it for my fun reading. I like some of the new voices, especially the John Cleese one. Reminds me of an old professor of mine.
I'm an author and I love this tool so far. I guess my only complaint would be that if you use it to read off Google Docs when you're using it to edit a document and hear how your writing sounds, the moment you make any change it asks you to refresh the tool, which isn't a problem, except it takes you all the way back to the start of the document, which makes you have to scroll ALL THE WAY DOWN to where you made the change, even if the change might have just been a comma. Why can't the tool refresh, but leave you on the page you're in. Even Windows Read Out Loud does this.
I use Speechify for work to help me stay focused when reading lengthy documents. This extension used to work for Google Docs, which is where most of my work is, but has ceased to function (no audio output). I will keep checking in on this as I love the program otherwise!

Love this extension, helps me get through the longest of readings while still being able to understand the content because of their option to customize reading speed. I'm able to learn and understand at my own pace and I also enjoy the plethora of options for reading voices as it keeps me engaged in the content.

Speechify routinely ignores some words in the pronunciation of selected text. I don't know why, but Speechify randomly skips certain words as though this words does not exist.

Snoop Dogg, Barrack Obama and a British narrator are also my favourite voices to read me to sleep at night. I could not completed my Doctorate courses with out you. Keep up the great work and can you please add Morgan Freeman or any of Jim Henson's muppets! Could you train your AI with all the audio from the Muppet show? :)

I would rate Speechify Text to Speech Voice Reader as "Loved it." It is an extremely useful tool that allows me to easily listen to text while multitasking. The voice options are diverse and the speech speed is adjustable which is great. It also has the ability to save and export the audio, making it easy to listen to later. It is also easy to use and has a clean, user-friendly interface. Overall, Speechify Text to Speech Voice Reader is a valuable tool that I highly recommend.

As a Doctoral Student with ADHD, Speechify has been a life saver, time saver, and my personal retention and comprehension booster. Its flexibility has been a game changer as a navigate between scholarly articles, websites, etc. The mobile apps allow me to have content on hands on my iphone and ipad as well. My only wish - which minor and therefore not going to impact my rating - is to have a Mac Application for my Macbook Pro. This would be a true game changer (for me). Grateful for this application!

The app is very convenient for reading and reinforcing what is being read. It has some small issues with technical documents at times due to annotation and notation, but it is quite efficient with reading the bulk of most articles.

Even though it is in their privacy policy(Which they know nobody reads), this extension collects insanely amount of data about your internet usage. For each website visit(even if you didn't request it to reads) it send the web info(referer, title, url, path), your info (email, full name) and other datas to it's analytics. Abeg this is too much

Great App! It allows me to read articles and other large format papers that tend to distract me. The only set back is that it tends to malfunction from time to time.
Okay, I have been using this extenison so I can simply just not read. Pretty lazy, I guess. Though, honestly if you don't have premium ... Be perpare to double task. The chat bot read literally so slow at 1.1x, which i'm not reducing points off of because some people can't understand that fast. So in total without premium it's an almost love it! I'm not giving 4/5 because that's just way to much off.
Has completely revolutionised my consumption of written material - articles, emails, books, everything really. I feel like I comprehend everything so much faster and deeper. And it's great for learning foreign languages too - hearing and reading at the same time is fantastic. The AI voices sound almost human.
Why did you get rid of the skip sentence buttons? I don't want to be forced to hear headlines, captions and other junk! Please bring back the skip sentence buttons or I just can't use your product anymore. Edit: You brought the skip buttons back which was great, but you took them away again! Clicking on the sentence doesn't work nearly as well as the skip buttons. On some sites it'll jump to the top of the page suddenly or the sentences will have a very small clickable area. Please, please, bring back the skip buttons. I'm sorry skip buttons don't achieve the UI look you're trying to achieve, but I won't pay for something that has actively made it's product worse.

I use this daily and have done so for years now. It's excellent, and constantly improving. In particular, I'd like to give a huge thank you to whoever developed the Snoop Dogg voice. At first I used it for the lols, but honestly, it's a really smooth voice with a great tone. The app has needed a proper ebonics voice for ages, and I was certain that if they ever did it would be half-assed. Not the case! It's one of the best so far, in my opinion.
It's pretty good to have and use, but it takes forever to load. This may just be particular to the Wi-Fi in my area, however even when the Wi-Fi is okay it takes speechify a long time to load. For example, right now it has taken me over 25 minutes to login to me speechify account. I hope this can be fixed.

The price is unrealisticly expensive. If one is blind it may worth it, but for faster reading, no it's useless, there are a lot better options available.
Pausing and unpausing with a low end computer is bugged, it would keep scrolling back to the top of google docs automatically and I found myself needing to reload the page several times to edit one word. It would be easier to just download a pdf and use the free text to speech on Edge

This extension is good, but right now it keeps looping by rereading everything it just finished reading or a(n already read) portion from the beginning, the highlight doesn't follow along well when reading the date or time or address (Highlights the whole or part of the time "10:58" but doesn't highlight the rest or portions of it at a time, like saying "Ten" and "10:58" is highlighted, or "fifty eight" is said and "10:" or "10:58" is highlighted.), and sometimes it cuts itself off before it finishes a sentence when pressing the extension's play button, "Read Section" from the right-click/context menu, and when using screenshot mode. Also, I wish I could optionally have the old Screenshot textbox enabled (or disabled) as well as having the new Screenshot highlight enabled (or disabled) at the same time.
I absolutely love this extension. Makes studying so much easier and faster, especially during exam season.
I'm an editor and I've used Speechify off and on for over a year. I wish it worked better than it does for the price (I pay for the premium plan). The extension is so buggy in G Docs where I work. The speed of the voice creeps up regularly and you have to manually move it back down. It stops a lot. It will also scroll back to the top of the page (but I might have stopped this from happening so often by turning off auto scroll). I would happily continue paying if it was just a little more reliable. Instead, I have to download every doc as a PDF and use it in the web app (which is only a little better but out of my workflow). Please get it together and fix the bugs! It's been months!

I have had this app for almost three years now and even though I do not use premium, the free version works perfectly fine for me. The voices you get for free can be a little annoying and hard to understand at times when you speed up your reading speed, but other than that it gets me through books for school.
Great tool for me to get through complex texts when my energy is flagging.

This tool is great, especially if you upgrade to premium. However, there are white a few issues with the application, including frequent restarting of reading a sentence, issues with looping through articles, and no ability to add pronunciation edits.
This is a great productivity tool and allows me to consume more information when I would prefer to just listen. I've looked at a lot of options and this tool is the best.

The volumn always starts low and after a line or two it goes back to normal. It also affect other brower-audio related stuff like Youtube. Anyone else expericine this?
Worked well - read my article at a good speed and only a couple of minor errors which were caused by changing fonts. My only criticism is the voice - it is computer sounding and although there are changes in pitch, it still is a bit monotone and therefore concentration from the listeners can drift off. All in all, an excellent product.

Stopped working. I use to absolutely love this extension, plus it was the only one that worked. However, it recently stopped working entirely and I'm not convinced spending $200/yr is going to fix that. Seems a really high price for premium as a student, I would just like the robotic sounds for free so that I can access my pdf readings. I'm uninstalling it which is too bad because I really liked the screenshot function when it use to work.

Very useful to read and follow along for long study. Helps me memorize at the same time making the process of studying visual, interesting and practical.
Very helpful text to speech tool. As a returning student I struggled with the discipline of reading textbooks again after being away from college for many years. Having the ability to choose the reading speed has been great, I am reading quicker and retaining better than I anticipated I would. The word highlighting is also helpful, it forces me to pay attention and stops my brain from wandering. Overall great.

This app can make you lazy or extremely productive. You should be reading along with the audio as it it has a failsafe to stop you from zoning out as your audio, and visual senses are taken up by the same thing. It also ramps up the speed to increase retention by making you more aware.

Not happy with my purchase at all. The TTS voice is good, but the browser extension sucks and is full of bugs. Bugs I encountered. - UI would stop working after I hit pause - Pause button would stop working - Highlight won't adjust when I zoom out and in out of a document - Highlight would stop working every time I would select a word or highlight a word.

Absolutely love this. I have always been a slowly reader and easily distracted. This helps me actually read what I need to and comprehend it. While sometimes it is faulty I would still recommend this to anyone. It has even improved my reading speed. If I could give it more stars I would.
Not only is this the only text-to-speech tool I would ever recommend, it is also something I have recommended to people out of context without them asking. As a uni student, I have to do a lot of reading, and it gets very hard to do it by myself. Reading along to it being read aloud is insanely helpful, and I've never used anything that can provide me such an amazing service before they start asking for money. I don't think I'm interested in paying for the service because I am very tight on money, but if I wasn't then I would.

I have just been helped by the kindest web/app developer/tech genius ever called Vamsee. I'm dyslexic and struggle enormously with Technology. With an exam tomorrow I was frustrated, feeling the time pressure and struggling to get Speechify to work- I didn't understand how to use it, how to make it work with PDFs or online things. (I couldn't even work out how to drag the Speechify symbol into the Applications File right at the start because I was searching for the image of the Applications File on my desk top..... this is but one example of the extent of my computer illiteracy!) After not managing to get the screen sharing working, Vamsee managed to find another way and talked me through step by step at a speed that worked for me. He was accepting, not at all patronising, never made me feel stupid or silly for any of the questions I asked and was so kind in his approach. His calm patience helped me not to panic so that I could follow what he was doing and he gave me space and time to write things down my end for reference at a later date. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Thank you Vamsee, I am so incredibly grateful to you for your brilliance, competence and patient kindness.

This has been a life saver for me as a busy college student who struggles with ADHD. Assignments that would have taken me hours to complete, or ones I may have just given up on are actually doable with this app. I have saved so much time, and I appreciate how many formats speechify can operate in. I have recommended this app to a lot of my friends, and they have had similar things to say. My only issue is that sometimes the reading voice glitches in certain imported formats, and gets stuck on a single block of text. Otherwise, I have very little bad to say about this amazing extension.
Does exactly what is says on the tin. More intuitive than other apps. Helps with editing and reviewing text; saves time with study and life admin and helps me think about what I/others have written in a more objective way. Can't rate it highly enough - thanks Speechify!

I use Speechify inside Google Docs and it's a GODSEND. Nothing else out there can help me dial in my copy better than hearing it read back to me. And Speechify makes that happen. It's a fantastic tool, and it's so easy to use!
