Reviews & Comments of Tide - Focus Timer & White Noise chrome extension

Would be a 5 star review if it had a blacklist instead of a whitelist, since there's just a few websites I need blocked when focusing, and any number of websites I need when doing any sort of researching. It has a nice interface and the ambient sound feature is great, but in its current state it's unfortunately not useable for everyone.

I have been using tide for about 3 years now, please let us sync the mobile data with this extension after signing in and do something about the sounds, its a 5 star after that

I had downloaded and began to use Tide awhile back. And then, at one point, had to disable all my extensions for some reason. Don't remember why and it wasn't because of Tide. Anyway, just remembered I have this and started to use it again tonight. I LOVE THIS EXTENSION!!!! Perfect!

I really want to like this, it's got great options for focus noises and is super straightforward to use, but I really need to be able to adjust the volume for the way I work.

I love this app. I've used it on my phone for the last 5 years. I recently started using the app on my computer. It's great, but the clock winding down in the top right corner is distracting. Please change that so it does not change.

I honestly love it but it would be nice if you can adjust the sound :) as its pretty loud and i also just want a softer backround sound everything is amazing hopefully more sounds come

Finally, I found the one!

I use this as an ADHD self-management strat and it works great for that! Pretty UI, decent variety of sounds and I like that I can mute the noise as well and still get the ping when time is up if I need it silent. My only complaints are that there's no way to control the volume, and it'd feel more streamlined if there were a hotkey to open the pop-up rather than having to click on the icon each time.

This was a fantastic Chrome Extension until they removed all the sounds I like. I guess I am removing the app too.

I love this i really do but it has some issues i spent alot of time whitelisting study websites but when i switch to work more it was all gone. It would be nice it if could tell from educational reasearch sites and common distracting sites like twitter,instagram,newgrounds,tumblr etc like those school monitoring software so i don't have to put every single website on the whitelist.

Fantastic until many, many sound options were removed. Chrome account does not sync with apple app.

Please add ticking sound for Pomodoro. your nature sounds are too loud and distracting!

Would be a great tool, but I need to access a lot of websites for work, whitelist is an inconvenient way to go about if for me. My suggestions: - Let me add websites to whitelist from the website block screen when I navigate to a new one. - Add block list in addition to white list.

I love the sound options and the timers available. I would love to use the feature that blocks websites that are distracting to me but the extension just blocks all websites, including the one's I've whitelisted.

The extension is pretty great, but whitelisting websites doesn't work.

Almost good. Pros: Simple, clean interface. Just enough options (ocean, rain, forest, etc.) to not get bored by the same kind of white noise every time. Cons: Why does a white noise player need permissions to read and change data of all the sites I visit? (kinda sus. maybe just bad code) When denied permission to read and change data, the extension needs reloading whenever I try opening up the extension on a tab other than the one I started a session from. This is very annoying. The extension for some reason also reads browsing history. Another issue is with how the audio tracks are looped -- there is jarring pause every few minutes when a track ends and restarts. Smooth looping is something that should be a standard in white noise applications. Without that, how is this better than playing a track on VLC or any simple media player?0

What an awesome extension! It helps me a lot in my daily work.

I really like this extension! The sounds are really nice and high quality, and the interface is very simple and looks great. There are some points for improvement though 1) It would be great if there was a blocklist option rather than allowlist (since it would be impossible to use this while doing research) 2) Perhaps the alarm indicating the end of the focus could be louder? 3) I hope we can have the choice to adjust the volume :(

I love this extension, really helps me concentrate and study for my tests and essays. The only little thing i want the developers to add is an option to choose which websites to block. Because currently when the immersive option is one it only gives us whitelisted pages, it's more simple to add blacklisted pages, because we know which pages we will get distracted on, and which pages we need to research things on. That's all.

I like the simplicity of this extension, but it's wild to me that they've created a white noise/nature sounds app without volume controls.. I'm not sure if this app is still being updated, but that's one addition I would love to see. It would create a much smoother user experience where I didn't have to battle with my laptop volume controls *and* other apps like Spotify to get the right sound balance.

A really great app and extension but serious data privacy concerns. The extension tracks your website visits, history, and use and its use of that data is not documented or accountable to any outside party. I would strongly recommend Rofocus as a far preferable alternative.

I really liked this extension and used it all the time, however they have recently removed a lot of the sounds so you are only left with 5 now. I really liked the variety it used to have and used them all frequently - very disappointing change. Hoping the developers put the sounds back on/add new ones.

I use Google web apps to help me organise my business but I can't seem to add them to the whitelist successfully. I really need help or a solution to this please!

It would be very useful if we could control the music volume of just the extension, rather than it be on or off, Sometime I might have to listen to some other audio and it becomes such a hassle when you have to do it 10-20 times a day!

I really like this extension but there are some suggestions that can make it even more better - 1.) Add the option to choose from "blocklist" and "whitelist" (because most people find just blocking some sites as a better option) 2.) Option to choose from "countdown" and "stopwatch" 3.) to-do list option (plus subtasks) 4.) Add more sounds 5.) Or give a sound as a reward after completing specific amount of pomodoros (that would be so helpful for people with ADHD) 6.) Or give coins after completing a pomodoro to buy sounds 7.) weekly chart statistics to track progress

Want to give this app 5 stars but just short a few things Pro: Simple, easy-to-use, doesn't overcomplicate its functionality across domains of usage, i.e. for Focus timers (including Pomodoro style usage), meditations, sleep tracking, and quick breath exercises. Cons: There's no volume slider for the background scene, and I'd rather not use my PC's slider to adjust ALL of chrome to be quieter whenever i'm using it... and then figure out the relative volume I need to set for say if I'm watching content and taking notes, but enjoy the ambient sound of a library to feel the pressure of needing to do work... I'm stuck with sounds at full volume sadly. Integration with the Play app could be tighter UI could be more intuitive and easier to navigate, and having the ability to at least export or get a better UX for looking at historical data would be awesome! Main grip is really with the volume and the alerting system. Also, would be nice to see a 'set to default' in options for the sound/timer amount settings.

Amazing app. But one more tool for concentration is missing - the ability to record a target on a pomodoro segment. Please add such a text field, the value of which will become the title of the timer. Formulating a task before starting pomodoro helps a lot to focus on a specific goal. Many thanks!

For 5 years, since I was a kid until now, I have been a devoted Tide user of its app and chrome extension. 2 points of improvement for the latter: 1. Whenever the sound resumes after break, it would be nice if it would fade in instead of abruptly resuming the sound. It's kinda startling, especially for the waterfall scene. 2. Do save previous items in the Whitelist so that whenever Immersive mode is turned back on (after being turned off), we won't have to retype or recopy-paste the links again. Saves time, especially for a productivity extension. :)

THE BEST ""BUT"" 1. Add a fireplace sound and some thunder related sound 2. More better motivational quotes to focus all i see is 2-3 ...So getting bored

I love this chrome extension, but I gave it one star because the Website Blocker does not work at all. It will block every single website you go too, even if the site is on your White List. I add sites to my white list and when I save the websites are still blocked. I go back to my settings and the whitelist is empty again. If you can fix this I will give it five stars.

ITS AMAZING MUST TRY!!!!! the only problem is in immersive mode. instead of whitelist add blacklist i mean dont remove white list but add black list like a option to choose blacklist that blocks sites we choose i am telling this because i study on my pc and i cant access other studying sites pls add blacklist to this extension pls pls THIS IS THE BEST FOCUS EXTENTION

Really focused while using the library sound in it but seems like the options have trimmed down a few days ago.

Can I get all the same sounds/songs in the chrome extension as in the mobile app. Would love all the same options... otherwise I'll just have to use the mobile app...

I'm upset that they got rid some of the focus noises such as keyboard. It was one of my favourites and now I'll have to look for another app and just delete tide.

this extension is 100000% better than noisli, was a focus timer PLUS its free! help alot with procasination and helps me with my studys! been studying to my full potential now! Amazing! do i recomend? YASSSSS!

Very good! I really like this utility, it helps me focus and relax more ^^ But I have some suggestions for the producer to add: - Should add function to list blocked websites to focus on work / study. - Should have the function of monitoring daily, weekly / monthly / yearly progress.

I really like this extension. It does almost everything I would like. It's one problem is with Immersive mode. I use at work many web apps that don't have typical URLs (they look like workapp/pages/login.aspx or work-server-name/Appname#/) when I try to add them to the white list it won't let me but Immersive mode still blocks them from use. If I could use those apps in immersive mode this app would do everything I want

I'm so grateful for this app. I've been having difficulties focusing these days. As a habit I tried to download a pomodoro app on my phone, but I ended up never following it and once I grabbed my phone it was too late as I would end up on my emails or reading notifications I had missed. This chrome extension enables me to focus on what I need WITHOUT my phone or complicated web browser web-app. So happy I found this and I can't believe these are such high quality sounds that are FREE. Again, so thankful for it being free. Thank you!

Extension seems good, but when listening to sounds (e.g. 'Stream') the audio stops briefly every couple of minutes - as though the end of the recording has been reached and it is restarting. This is very distracting - not great if the entire purpose of the extension is to prevent distractions! Has anyone noticed the same or have a suggestion to fix this?

I used to be soo (emotionnally) attached to this app on my phone in 2017 to somewhere in 2019, but due to some reasones (phone storage and work change) i uninstalled it. So happy to know u guys developed an extension for laptops/pc etc. ^^

This app is really helpful for timing studying and provides nice background noise. However, the whitelist option isn't very helpful because when I study I need to google information and I can't predict exactly what I will need to google. A blacklist would be far more helpful. Or maybe have the option to use either a whitelist or a blacklist.

It is good but lags behind the mobile version a lot. The one much needed thing is to be able to add more sounds as is available on mobile

I love this extension, awesome! But I accidently open the extension config page and found that It tracks which web page I have visited and the frequency, please make sure that these data are not uploaded to remote and at least there should be some options for use to consider whether to turn this function on. Please consider the privacy problem, thanks.

great app, blocks distracting sites and keeps me focused. I wish I could adjust the volume and have a wider selection of background noise but overall it's very very helpful. 9/10

Guys, i LOVE using this app on my phone, but the fact that i can't change the white noise volume separately (or at least it isn't visible how) is so frustrating. I listen while studying and i can't even hear the lecture so it's no longer "white noise". I hope you fix this, cause this has been a favorite of mine.

I noticed that the Chrome installation warning says this extension can read any web page we visit. WHY SHOULD ANYONE AGREE TO THIS just to have a white noise machine? I also read their privacy policy, which says they collect uniquely identifiable information about your device (PC or smart device), including your unique advertiser ID. I'm removing this app as soon as this review is done.

The white noise options used to work fine. I don't know what happened! It's no longer working right not. 8/

It lags abit and the sound stops working every now and then. Please make it so it can work offline or at least can work on slower connections. (Suggestion: maybe make a desktop version)

Beautiful, easy to use extension with nice and really relaxing melodies to help focus on what you're working on. Tracking focus sessions is also a nice feature. ✌️⭐

I really like the concept and design, however i miss a really important feature: blacklisting! For example, if im working and i have to research a bunch of stuff on google scholar etc. there is no way i can know the pages i have to whitelist. And i cannot whitelist subdomains of a page nor can i whitelist pages, that were linked from a whitelisted page. So thats a dealbreaker.

Horrible, inconvenient.

This app works great on the phone but awful on chome as a desktop extension. I tried to log in countless time and it doesn't allow me to log in, even with the right credentials. I want my statistics to sync! Makes me feel accountable for all the work I've put into studying! Please fix this for the desktop!

Rain noise option has a violin or something playing in the background. Its very distracting. Also I think they use the exact same sample as Noisli which has a really similar violin sound in the background.

It's an extension( and has a iOS and android version ) made by Chinese and has running privacy and policy that everyone who uses this extension should be aware of what websites you are browsing. This "Tide" will probably upload your website activity and cooperate with cn government to create a "harmonious" society.

I love the tide app. I use it a lot in my phone. When I want to use it via chrome extension, the white noises are playing only for few seconds. There is no problem with my internet connectivity. Please resolve this issue.

it has a bug and that is when you restart chrome all the settings get reset for example when you set the focus timer on 60 mins and you close the chrome next time you open it the timer is on 25 mins plz fix it

This is a helpful app with clean UI and nice calming sounds. Unfortunately it's also a little buggy: 1. When I restart chrome my account gets logged out and my settings reset -- this is especially annoying because I have whitelisted some sites and I have to re-add them after a restart. 2. If I end a session before it's time it counts towards sessions completed, even if ended 1 second after it was started. 3. Today's sessions counter only updates after opening the settings page. 4. Browsing in the stats page is broken. Right now it says I have browsed for a total of 27 hours just today.

I have been using Tide in my phone for almost a year now, but I just found out there was a Chrome extension! And I'm really glad because now I can use the Focus mode more often since I use my computer daily for multiple hours, so I need a getaway when I want to get work done. A nice selection of sounds, although I would like a bigger variety such as the android app. The free ones of course. I really miss the "Her City" sound. Great extension nonetheless!
