Great idea

Super frustrated as I found the extension useful for a few months but decided budget-wise, it just wasn't worth it. There's no other way to cancel a paid subscription than emailing them. Except they don't respond to emails. It's been over a week and I've sent multiple emails about cancelling it and haven't heard back.

I CAN'T USE IT, 100% CPU USAGE. The idea about learning a language just reading or visiting websites is amazing, but i can't use the extension, when i installed, and i wanna use it chrome goes up its CPU Usage to 80-90 or even 100%, therefore i can't use , but i really wish use this extension, it seems really useful for me. my laptop is old but i use almost 15 extensions on chrome and neither of them go up CPU USAGE as much as "Toucan". i hope guys can fix this problem as soon as possible.

Toucan is a simple, easy-to-use extension that anyone learning a language should have. Because the new language is incorporated into your native one, it feels effortless when you read it, yet you still pick up the words. And if you feel it's too easy or too hard, you can change the difficulty of translated words and the frequency at which words are translated. I highly recommend this extension, whether on its own, or as I use it, in tandem with other learning methods.

Amazingly useful in everyday tasks, adding more language activity to my day.

I am a native Spanish-speaker trying to practice my college German and learn Mandarin Chinese. I am also a public librarian so patrons ask me about language apps and I have tested many. This is a phenomenal tool! I really enjoy the fact that it updates random words on ANY webpage that you use. It helps me learn a new word every time I use my browser and I am very appreciative of that. It truly does change the way you learn a language because it IS immersive. You will be forced to use the language as it will be right at your fingertips as you browse the internet in your every day life.

Great extension! I use it to complement my French learning via Duolingo courses for grammar and Youtube videos for learning intonations and pronunciation.

This extension is great. There are words I've never seen or said in Spanish (the language I am trying to perfect), and Toucan has helped me add these words to my vocabulary! I love it.

I will change my comment when they fix their main issue. They translate words without regards to context. For exapmle, they translated "applicaiton" as "antrag". However, it was completely false, since the meaning of word was "software application" and not "application for scholarship". Frauds.

ADD Russian!!!

I used to be able to pause extension for 5 min with Alt+V key, it doesn't work anymore; now the site gets added to blocked list permanently.

Suddenly using 100% CPU on Chrome. I usually have a lot of tabs open so my only guess is something changed in the code recently where it is trying to work on EVERY SINGLE TAB. I can barely disable it and once already it was reenabled. Once again it has reenabled itself causing Chrome to come to a crawl.

I added Toucan about a week ago, and I've been loving how I can integrate my language learning during my day. And if I'm going through a particular dense/hectic spot at work, it's easy to pause. So perfect!! Definitely recommend!

Honestly a great extension and I love the user interface! I love it!

Really enjoying this extension! Just joined the Slack community for extra assistance and fun daily learning. I appreciate how easy it was to get started and also pause when needed (for client-facing screenshots). Seems like it's going to help the language learning process more than months on Duolingo's paid subscription did for me.

Why can I not save the words and phrases that I highlighted myself?

I seriously love this extension. I use it across all of my devices to help me learn Spanish. I use this in conjunction with Duolingo and I can see and hear the extra progress being made daily. Thank you to the creators of this application, it's truly been so helpful, and I've recommended it to all of my friends and family interested in learning languages. I would absolutely love an option to have the translations come through in a non Castilian accent though. 99% of the people I speak with don't have this accent and it would be nice to have the option to hear accents that sound closer to theirs.

Toucan's rep worked with me every step of the way when I couldn't quite figure out how to use it (tech is not my speciality!). I've never had such fantastic customer service - ever! I love the almost effortless ease that Toucan brings to the table for us wannabe Spanish speakers! I can't wait to get started! Thank you, Toucan!!

I could not recommend Toucan more! A wonderful tool to supplement whatever language course you are using. It's awesome to see the vocabulary you have been working so hard on out in the wild. It's a brilliant alternative to boring flashcards!!

This is the easiest and most innovative way of learning I have seen in a very long time.

The app was working great until I paused it to study for a test. Now it doesn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but still not working. Really disappointed because it was a really neat way to integrate language learning into my regular day

Great App

Great app for learning in your free time. Keeps me on my toes and is definitely increasing my vocabulary.

The reason I downloaded Toucan is the passive nature of the learning component. I don't have to change anything about my routine so it's a value add for no extra intrusion/work/time.

For some reason, I can't get it to work in Chrome nor Brave on macos. Don't know what's going on. The menu is blank, the "doctor" says everything ok. I don't have a firewall or ad-blocker... Even disablong all my other extensions does nothing, Giving up

I love this! Does not cost me any time at all and I am hardly noticing I am slowly learning a language. Of course it's a slow process this way, but the alternative is waiting for years until I find the time... Amazing idea. Keep adding languages. I am doing Spanish now.

Toucan is so useful for teaching you vocab that you will actually use in your everyday life, by translating words you see all the time on websites. It is also helping me read more fluently in Korean. I recommend to everyone who wants to learn more about a language without even feeling like you're trying!

Toucan is an amazing extension for chrome and it is amazing for beginners that want to learn a new language!!!!!!

Toucan was decent, however It does not have the language that I want to learn. You may be asking now: What language is it? Well... It is Greek. I'm still hopefully waiting you can add Greek soon.

Very good! Only issue, on Hebrew it doesn't have some of the markings (for instance, בּ). Other than that, no complaints!

A very nice concept. I was finding it difficult to find the time to learn Japanese vocabulary and Toucan integrated learning into my daily routine very well. It's nice to have a break reading a news article and learn a few words along the way.

A great way of picking up and reinforcing vocabulary almost effortlessly, while going about your 'normal business' on any web site. So it complements any more formal learning efforts (e.g. on DuoLingo) very well.

Toucan's random word translation is an effective addition to my daily German routine. So I can learn advanced words without effort.

Such a great idea - an excellent tool to use with Duolingo for some fun learning while I waste time on the internet. Edit: Have used it for 30 minutes and would love if the extension also increased the size of words translated into Arabic, by at least 2 or 3. At the moment Arabic is far too small to read without zooming in. 4/5!

On Duolingo, it did this: How do you say "[puertas]"?  A. puertas B. contigo C. cansado  Should disable it on Duolingo.  It doesn't work on YouTube. YouTube's practice window always asks me about words I never saw. For example, it asks me about "galaxia distante," but I've never heard of that one. My guess is that it means "distant galaxy," and that's an option! I also had a question for a practice, and this happened: What's the Spanish word for assessment? My answer: "Evaluación" Correct answer: "evaluación" Now, it changed text in a textbox, resulting in "stoma.informacióntoma.info" but I can only scroll to "stoma.info".

I love learning through Toucan but you have to explain why Malwarebytes is flagging your files in my AppData and a single registry file as MALWARE? 11 items detected. I don't have this issue with other of my extensions

UNINSTALLED. Extension promotes registering new accounts but NO option to log in after creating new accounts. Very sketchy.

I'm so pleased with this extension. I've been telling all of my friends and family about it. It basically forces you to learn the language, but makes it fun and engaging. Well done!

I love it, it's brilliant imo, I'd give it 5 stars, but I want to be heard: sometimes the small popup that appears when you hover a translated word remains permanently on the screen and covers part of the page. I wish the popup would appear above the word, so if it remains stuck I can still read on the page, and only when I click on a word, not on hover, I want to be able to move the mouse without seeing that popup against my will. I'll give it 5 stars if this is solved.

I love how it challenges you and helps you grow into the language you want to learn. It takes it easy and helps you with what you need. I am so glad I found this to help me grow into languages I love and I hope to be fluent in.

Loving this app, fantastic and simple idea, and looking forward to seeing it fully fleshed out. Current version is already very useful and has me learning casually as I go about my regular browsing on my laptop.

This Extension is so easy an convenient to use by far. I've had a lot of other different language tutoring apps, that all claim to be the best out there and how they all got some new fast way to help you retain and grasp a new language in "No-Time-At-All" so to speak. But the all fall short of their over gloated promise. but toucan is easy and a breeze when learning a new language. Gracias Toucan! Ya'll rock!!

Really great for learning new vocab, especially stuff that's more modern/relevant to your day-to-day if you're a beginner! It's really easy to practice and adjust your settings so you can make the most of it. Great extension!

Toucan is really helping me a lot in the learning process and I am learning a lot without doing much. I am a student so Toucan is really helping me be more efficient with my time.

Great potential. Needs some work though. First, most of the words it takes for french are cognates. aka, words that are the same in french and english lol. Um, thanks? Also, needs one little tuning (tip here guys): If I'm ON a french language page, you should scan for that. Currently you're taking french words that look like english and converting them to french, sometimes with different results as they're not true cognates lol. Example from right now, looking at a french restaurant, you translate "Notre menu" to "notre carte"... in French, the carte and the menu are slightly different lol. Maybe write a little code to make sure the context isn't already the language? I do need to find an easy way to shut it off, there may be an icon you can put on the menu bar and click to temporarily disable it, i expect. So, thus far, in 4 months, just a lot of clicking on cognates and saying "I know this" several times, not sure HOW to mark it "leave me alone about this word completely please! it's a cognate!" BUT, I see great potential for this smart concept, keep it up guys!

I'd like to to try it out but there's no Traditional Chinese option. Are there any plans for adding this?

It's awesome to learn japanese this way, It'd be useful if it were possible to set multiple languages as "starter" for example I speak both english and italian and use them daily.

It prods me to learn Spanish by replacing English words at the right level, not too much but enough to keep me going

Doesn't work, I mean, it does, but only for the first couple of days upon installing/registering. I tried it on two different browsers and it was the same thing, it worked for 2 days and then never again.

I think this app is very innovative and has plenty of options to customize it to your needs! Sometimes it's hard to set aside time to study language and this is a good way to see words everyday and learn their usage. Highly, highly recommend

I love the app,I don't have time to learn french,It teaches me when I am working.

Love this extension and its genuinley helping me learn Japanese more efficiently. I paused my lessons for a while and Toucan helps with light and (sort of) passive learning. I like the system and its fun too. I have it on my second device as well, so not only one device, but two-can be used at the same time :D

So far it has been incredibly valuable for language learning. I love that you can save words to your vocab list and practice your list. Thankyou so much to the developers, it is invaluable.

This extension does exactly what it sets out to do. It gives you language immersion at your own pace, with games and various settings to make the learning experience tailored to each individual. When learning languages, I have often looked for articles in my target language on a topic I enjoy, but end up feeling lost looking for content or overwhelmed when approaching as a beginner. This app allows me to adjust an article I already like to suit my language learning journey. I have also had a great experience with the customer support member Robin, who has helped me handle an issue I had with my premium subscription.

It's really helpful and allows me to learn at my own pace! It makes learning vocabulary feel more natural and more in-line with my interests

This is what so many other language learning apps have been trying to do for years. Teach language like a native speaker would learn it. You pick up little bits here and there as you do your normal internet stuff and barely even realize you're learning.

I needed something like Toucan when I was younger and learning French as my teacher was fluent. I tried Babel, but costs-ouch. But finally, a teacher with patience as I glide my way through a new language so I can talk to my Nurse in her tongue, Toucan, makes it easy and fun. That is the secret of Toucan; fun is how we live, breathe and work; no joy, no point. My Nurse loves that I tried to talk to her in Spanish. She laughed at my forced accent. When I was in France, an eight-year-old told me off for trying to speak the french language. My Nurse complements me on trying, thanks to Toucan, which makes me happy. So I will continue to be glad that I have Toucan and can bring a smile to my young Nurse, who encourages me. Thank you, Toucan.

This is a brilliant product! The largest hassle with language learning is organizing and preparing learning material -- making vocab lists, creating flashcards, importing learning material into software, and actually studying the material. What I love about Toucan is how seamlessly it helps one study whilst performing everyday tasks on the web. Part of what makes it so genius is how it transforms the words you're actually routinely exposed to into the target language! I'm always navigating ecommerce stores, tech news websites, and business learning material, so now my Chinese vocabulary naturally consists of keywords related to those subjects

Very nice app! Excellently creative idea. The best part of the app is everything is under user's control. May I request for a small updating for languages like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malayalam etc.. Can these languages come up with a cursor zoom

An excellent tool that follows proven methods for the language learning process. It's amazing that it has support for so many languages. Also noteworthy is the function of marking words as 'known', which notifies the program and helps it cater things to you even more, advancing the complexity of words/phrases presented as you progress with the language.

i think this is an incredible idea for an educational thing, kind-of an alternative to flashcards i guess. BUT i don't want anyone to take this as an alternative for actually learning a language

Not sure what to think about it, it works but not on all sites (just try to browse youtube or google anything), works with only one language at once so if you browse in 2 different languages it just do nothing and chrome translation of page don't help there.

This extension is very useful and helps me alot! If youre interested inlearning a language but dont have time this app is perfect!

Absolutely brilliant !

The only way to learn a language well enough that you can seamlessly use it in practice is by letting your brain guess the meanings of new words from context that their used in, and this extension allows you to do just that. It's absolutely brilliant! I wish it had an option that would allow you to turn on lots more translations per page than the current maximum, so that you can just barely make out the meanings of sentences you read. Feel like that could really supercharge the learning process. Also, it would make a lot of sense that Tucan would always translate the words that are marked as "I know this". Not sure if it already does that, but if it doesn't, please add that feature!

Toucan is a brilliant idea, very simply learning a little each time with absolutely no effort. I find it useful, and enjoyable, to learn words I know in a different language. Can't see myself turning this off.

When on websites that are relevent to you it is great to be able to see vocabulary in your target language in context and being able to set your competancy with the language and how many translations per page you see are fantastic features! Integrates nicely within everyday work rather than a hindrance. :)

I suggest combing this with other language learning apps and you will find Toucan to push you to be your best learning self!

Currently I'm learning Korean and this extension is helping me a lot, but i wish it worked on YouTube then i would give it 5 stars.

I've been using Toucan to learn more German, Obviously the add-on could benefit with some more languages added but it's been a great way to start moving some German words into my long term memory, purely because you're seeing them so often and in context.
