From April 10th, 2017 to August 2nd, 2017, 25% user give 5-star rating, 50% user give 2-star rating, 25% user give 1-star rating. for Project Fib chrome extension.
This extension rates everything from The Onion as verified. I'm not sure what type of algorithm they use, but clearly something is wrong. There are also posts marked as "verified" that can not possibly be verified because they are based entirely on the opinion of the writer. Example: "Ranking the Kylie Lip Color Kit Colors from Best to Worst" This extension should be removed since it can actually make the fake news problem worse by claiming something is verified when it has already been fact checked as false, is satire, or purely opinion based.
I expected neo-Nazis and Trump supporters to trash on this, since they're the ones most associate with fake news and its propagation. That said, I'm glad this project exists. It's easy to use and helps provide some information that can help determine how fake an article may or may not be. At the end of the day, we can't expect a software to think for us entirely, and some people want that.
This software is basically BS. I contacted the developers and wanted to understand how they determine if something is fake news, and all I got was the runaround. Don't waste your time trying to get this to work (most of the time it does not).
This marks conspiracy theories, biased news, and rumors to be verified. Wow
