Also lost this function as of 109.0.5414.75 (Official Build) (64-bit). Alt + left arrow works in Chrome, but not in other apps where backspace is the only option.
No longer working!
The extension worked until updating to Chrome 109.0.5414.74. Now it stopped working :( It now fails with event.path being undefined in the Content script on these two lines: // Overcomes issues with custom elements wrapping INPUT const target = event.path[0];
Love this extension but could be improved by having the ability to disable on certain sites.
good
Works on my other computers but not on my new one. It keeps defaulting back to "on click". I cannot be changing the settings for this thing on every blasted page I visit. Is this even kept up anymore?
Doesn't let you denylist certain sites. Some sites have horrible engineers behind them where if you type a backspace in a text area, it will trigger the extension and navigate back instead of actually doing a backspace. You need to give us the option to disable the extension on a per-domain basis
After updating Brave to version 1.19.90 on a Mac this extension was flagged as being malware and was automatically disabled. I have switched to the Google "Go Back With Backspace" at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/go-back-with-backspace/eekailopagacbcdloonjhbiecobagjci It works the same as the previous extension.
This is an essential extension. I have no idea how this basic functionally could be removed from Chrome. It is up to individual websites to warn if the user is about to leave whiteout saving first. That covers backspace, back button in browser, forward button in browser, back button on mouse, forward button on mouse, links, closing the browser, closing the tab etc. Removing a key feature because some sites are broken is stupid!
Brilliant!
Has done exactly as described, have never had any issue with the page going back while typing in a text field.
Perfect
Its great but a new problem has arisen with Chrome Remote Desktop. Chrome Remote Desktop is now a browser only app and pressing backspace within it (editing text on remote computer) navigates you out of the session - quite jarring! An exception needs to be added for this site, or the functionality for users to omit sites. Thanks!
It would be nice if there was an exclusion list. Very rarely I find a site that handles backspace a little differently like google's remotedesktop.google.com where if I'm connected to a remote machine and want to backspace something on that machine, instead this plugin takes me back a page. 99% of the time this plugin is seamlessly doing exactly what I want, but at least for one website I wish I could disable it.
Every time I get a new computer, I remember how stupid it is that I need to get this extension. So, thanks to the extension, and hoping one day Chrome will just reinstate this feature.
Hitting back goes back 2 pages, not one.
Indispensable extension. As soon as Chrome removed this functionality, I knew I'd have to go and find an extension to restore it. Now, going back on pages is faster than ever like before.
I liked this for a while but when viewing web PDFs and filling out some other forums backspace will still go back a page instead of deleting the entered text. This means you just lost everything you filled out. My new mouse has forward and back browsing buttons so I use those instead now.
Does not seem to be working for me. Unsure if it is fully compliant as of now. Using in Torch, will find the one I used in Chrome.
Didn't work for me unfortunately.
I love having backspace to go back.
Initially I loved this extension but it stopped working!! I tried disabling it and re-enabling it to no success. I finally had to uninstall it, re-install it, restart Chrome and Wah-Lah it's back to working again. I've rated this a "3" because of the issue of it not working..... but I've re-installed it so maybe I could have rated it higher.
Input fields in flash don't work right. It ends up going back to the previous page.
Stopped working for me.
doesnt work
Best thing since sliced bread. Thank you for fixing it for us all.
creates malware on google search page. Rocket tab
It works
Thank you, Razvan.
why would they EVER remove backspace..dear god. this extension simply makes it happen again. nothing more, nothing less.thanks
Yes, thank you!
I love this! Couldn't live without it. Thanks very much!
Cannot believe I had to download and install an extension for such a basic browser feature.
처음깔고 크롬 껐다가 다시 켜주세요. 그래야 됩니닷!
Didn't work
Really needed this, alt-left is just too far to stretch when browsing regularly.
Thank God! Yes. its that serious.. Works Great
This extension didn't work for me AT ALL. I tried everything I could think of but didn't get it to work. I am glad I installed it because another review told me what the new shortcut is for going back. So I guess it worked out ok.
doesnt work with email
Works great! Thanks!
Just excellent. Google was so dumb to switch off this useful hotkey.
Does what it says it will. Which is all I wanted. Perfect.
OMG, Why do i need this??? It should be in chrome by default
I don't like using both hands to go back, Alt Gr does not work, must be left Alt + Left Arrow. This is the worst design choice they ever made on Chrome, imo.
Thanks!
Works perfectly! It's a shame that Google had to remove such useful functionality without so much as a "check box" option in the Chrome settings to turn it back on. I do extensive online research and it's very inefficient to mouse back and forth to click the back button hundreds of times a day. This app restores the browsers original backspace functionality perfectly.
Deleting as new permissions seek to read all data on every webpage. Unnecessary
God bless
Thank you! Just let us return it to normal on our own next time
Thanks for beating arrogant Google!
Does exactly what it says. I don't under why the feature wast taken away in the first place...
thank you google for removing this feature and thank you Razvan for bringing it back :)
It's absolutely ridiculous that you need an extension to get back behaviour that's been in browsers for decades! It's the ones who are careless with their form data who should be using an extension to disable backspace, not the other way round!!! Of course no one ever polled the users to see which group is larger...
I wondered why it didn't work one day.... It took a while, but I googled why, and found this! Awesome, thank you! :-) I think, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Good tool...excellent medication for dumb google move forcing users to use two hands to go back while browsing...
Thank god. That was getting SO frustrating. I agree Google should ask us more than they do. They have our email addresses after all...
perfect. thank you!
Works SOMETIMES
Now I can go Back to my original life
doesn't work
Super Works?
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO USING THE INTERNET WITH A LAPTOP THAT YOU DON'T HAVE A MOUSE CONNECTED TO 24/7. Thanks for this, truly. I love chrome, but would have had to switch to firefox....
Thank you! It works just fine!
Does as the the title says. Very nice
Just installed this but so far I have no problems with this. I just recently discovered the backspace button didn't work anymore when my Chrome browser updated. But am now back in my glory that I can use the backspace button to go to the previous page. Just like that old saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Works as expected! I was one of those users who used backspace to go back.
Google software engineer Ojan Vafai has indicated that 0.04 percent of page views go back with the backspace key. But Chrome now has more than 1 billion active users, so 0.04 percent could mean 400,000 users. AND I WAS ONE OF THEM.
THANK-YOU for making this! Works perfectly.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.......the same feeling .......after the root canal
Super!!! Works perfect
Life makes sense again. Thank you for this.
Fixed a really stupid thing. Handy. Good. Neat. Shouldn't need to exist but I'm glad that it does. HEY CHROME USERS WHY DO A THING WITH ONE BUTTON WHEN YOU CAN DO IT WITH TWO?!
Works
Thanks for bringing this feature back. Chrome's decision of replacing a frequently used shortcut to a two-key both-hand shortcut does not feel considerate. The reason sited for removal of this feature is that some people accidentally navigated back while they wanted to delete the last entered key. For many years I have never had such problems and it does not feel right to be punished because some other people cannot use their browser properly. Well at least we have the choice to install this extension..
A million thanks.
Thank you.
Thank you for this, Google Chrome development team are a bunch of ... for removing this feature just because some idiots lose their form data by pressing backspace..
The backspace function should never have been deleted. This is a lifesaver! What is wrong with you, google?!
works - been using backspace too long to break that habit. Thanks!
Thank you, now I can use the UNIVERSAL way to go back since 1995 on chrome again :)
Thanks for making this extension. The backspace functionality works on most web pages but I've found that it doesn't on Chrome Web Store (e.g. browsing extensions) and non-web pages such as browser's Settings and Extensions pages. Can that be fixed?
Doesn't work
Initial load, initial opinion: 4 Stars with a 5th likely after more thorough use.
Thank you. Removing this feature was the stupidest thing I've seen in a while. I don't see why they wouldn't at least keep it as an option you could check, very infuriating.
not working.
God
Thank you so much! I was so mad when google stole this feature from me. Recently, I would always be pressing the backspace key only to get rewarded with google's snobby "press alt and bla bla bla" message. This is a lifesaver.
There has been a Bug/Feature request to make backspace go back on the linux build of chorme for 5 years plus. Whatever idiot decided removing this OS default behaviour on windows builds as well is a @@##@#@ retard who deserves the sack, PRONTO. Does this extension also give this behaviour to the linux builds of chrome?
Good god Google .. what were you thinking? Inconveniencing the thousands of competent users, to placate a small minority who don't know what they're doing! MCSE tech
Does what it says, and what it says NEEDS to be done!
It beggars belief that I had to actually spend time "fixing" this. Chrome's days are numbered.
What's with the insane permission for the extension to read and change everything on the pages I visit?
Bless you, Mr. Caliman, for writing this very useful extension as well as your genuinely helpful attitude you've shown in the review section. Would that the world had more people with your drive and attitude
Million thanks, work 100%. Chrome version 52.0.2743.116 (64-bit)
I had to install this because websites that use image galleries are listening for arrow keys and prevent cmd+left arrow from going back. So basically this Chrome change left me without a back key for many websites I visit.
Works just like it says it does. I like using backspace to go back. Old habits are hard to break.
I was going crazy!! Thank you!
It doesn't work for me
Works like a charm! Screw you google for ruining a great feature!!! I use backspace all the time when I don't have a mouse.
It seems to work, THANK GOD. ChromeDevs, What were you thinking????
THAnk Goodness. I was really disappointed there was actually time spent to design out the ability to go back with Backspace....and then friggin complicate it even more with two key strokes, both which make zero sense (ALT+Left Arrow)???? -Still waiting for updates...to be an UPGRADE!!
Thanks for doing this. I hate you google, Revert the BS behaviour and hire this guy.
It works! :-)
