Really great extension, for free. I noticed some unpatient people complaining in the reviews that it doesn't work. It didn't work for me at first either. Make sure the page you want it to read is setup and if it's not working then click on the extension -> click the cog wheel for settings -> click the ... -> reload app and then go to then try again. This worked for me. Nothing to complain about when it's a free extension that is very powerful and probably difficult to code. Thank you developer, you are a star

Why would I used a text to speech reader when the overview video voice over doesn't even pronounce the name of your own extension correctly? ("Pear-ih-CULLS"???) If you can't bother with quality control over pronunciation in that why should I expect the screen reader to do a good job?

NO BS, no trial period like Speechify then $140 a year... just a bare bones TTS engine that WORKS with Google Docs like a charm. None of the others do!

Bad job. Using Google TTS voices causes the extension to stop working. I'll give this extension a 0 out of 10. Please fix it now.

Used to be fantastic but recently its been randomly stopping and generally breaking, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and can't seem to fix it

Read so many good reviews about this extension. Unfortunately, the extension doesn't work on sites like Wattpad (www.wattpad.com) or Quotev (www.quotev.com). Would have loved to have e-books read to me. :(

Literally only read aloud the words of the Pericles website, not the pdf document I uploaded. Complete joke.

honestly best screen reader, i downloaded the other screen reader and it was awful just kept reading the url over and over. i needed to read a pdf book and was able to upload it no problem and loved the english male voice. sounds like i'm reading a harry potter book but its a school text book lol

Great extension, fantastic dev. Upon encountering an issue with the extension, I reported the bug and received a response from the dev the next day. He quickly identified and solved my issue. Extension works great with lots of customization options.

I think this extension is one of the best there is. Super easy to use and the developer is always fast at fixing whatever problems arise. Thanks you.

Great reader, but lately has been causing many websites to not function correctly. Drop down menus have started not working, for instance. This is only when I have Pericles installed that this happens. Will change to 5 stars, when this is fixed!

i liked the older version better and i know alot of people like it this way so i dont want you to change it but can you send me the old code or a way to get the old version

I cannot get this extension to work on my chromebook. When I press play, the extension responds with "Loading" then times out after a minute, then states "something went wrong".

hello! I love this extension while I'm confused about how to change the selected voice&language to another country/region. I've changed the user interface language of my system to English and used VPN to download it again but they didn't work. I am a non-native English speaker and want to learn the accent. Thank you!

Awesome! Have been downloading and trying out a bunch of extensions until now and it is exactly what I was looking for with features such as keybinding, highlighting words + auto scroll, plus voice is very standard. However I wish that the highlighted sentence remains in the middle of the screen.

Simple and easy to use

Easy to use and works really well. I saw in the earlier comments that you might be considering adding some additional highlight colors? My only complaint is the light yellow highlight color can be tricky to see on white backgrounds.

Easy to use, reads fast haven't encountered any bug so far.

I liked it! search among many many Test to Speech extensions, this one works well! PLEASE note you need to change the default voice to one of the google free high-qiality voices to get most of the extension. and the Text Auto-Highlighting feature works quite well! I really like it (the most similar to this one is Natural Reader which is very limited for free version) 5 Stars

BEST ONE THATS ACTUALLY FREE!

Reader has better (more authentic) sound voices than most others out there, however, the read skips pages - so not ideal.

It's so good that I am starting to think that this is possibly the most underrated extension on the store.

I really love this one and would give it five stars. It has the highlighting function directly on the webpage, no copy-pasting, no selecting. And the voices are really good too. But a few days ago after not using it for a while I noticed that it quite often just stops reading mid-sentence. When I go back to make it start over, it always stops at the same place in the sentence and nothing I tried could make it work. If there's a way to fix this I would be really grateful because I'm looking for a different one right now and basically nothing is as good as this one.

It's been working okay for me for a while but now... no hotkeys work and the highlighting isn't anywhere Near what ever it is reading. It is also extremely annoying that you don't get a choice where it starts to read, you press play it's gonna scroll all the way up and read the top of the page, not what I'm actually looking it, where I am

Pretty good, the only problem is the only one that wasn't acting weird was the android voice. You also can't choose certain sections you want to be read

The one who works best so far!

I've tried several of these simply because sometimes it's easier to listen to a page than read it. This one is by far the best.

I have tried almost all TTS extensions for chrome and I rated them with: 1- speed rate of speech 2- support of SAPI5 3- good native highlight And this app so far THE BEST one for final combine evaluation. It coud be even better if You add max speed of voices. Its good fast speed but not maximum of my SAPI5 voices. there one extension wich can speak a lot faster but has no SAPI5. BUT OVERAL THIS EXTENSION ALMOST PERFECT. THANK YOU. and please implement support for max speed of speech rate

The voice and cadence is one of the best from these types of programs. 1 bug is that it stops on me frequently, I have to prompt it again--it might be because of PDF designs that are complicated with columns and text boxes. 1 feature I wish it would have is customization on what the reader will automatically read. For exmp, being able to check 'ignore items in parenthesis,' could turn academic articles more coherent than they have ever been.

Amazing app. The best I've found! The only thing is that when I tap "K" to pause, it instead goes to the next sentence. I wonder if anyone else had this issue. Cheers!

Awesome extension

This thing is spectacular! I set it to speak faster then I read, which ends up saving me time. Now I read more. Have you ever browsed across a long article that looks interesting but you don't want to put in the time or effort to read the entire thing. Just click play on the Pericles extension. It underlines the words as it speaks them, making it easy to follow along.

Great work! Awesome extension! :) The available voices sound good and the reading is fluid and understandable, even when the text being read contains more difficult parts. I especially love the ability to click a sentence and start reading from there. The only improvement I can think of right now is to keep the position in the text for a longer period, because sometimes I switch tabs briefly and when I come back and press `K` again it starts reading from the top of the page. Definitely recommend this!

as a Person with an dyslexia disability i am Very grateful that your Team Provide us with such a tool. Thanks for the good work. But the Add on crashes quite often. and not every kind text is able to select.

I've tried quite a few of these and this is the one I like the best. You can choose the voice type, volume and speed unlike most of the others as well as control playback with hotkeys (though they are weird choices and cannot be customized. J/K for stop and play, N/P for next and previous kind of makes sense.)

So, so useful, and the voice I've been listening to is remarkably pleasant and intonated for text-to-speech. Not 100% turing test natural, but I don't expect that. Things are enunciated clearly for the most part, and it's useful for listening to text as a test of how screen readers will handle accessibility functions.

Oh my gawd, I have MS and my vision is failing. I am a historian and have been so very sad because I just couldn't read the amount of material that I used to. This app is beyond wonderful! The voices do not sound all techno-weird either. ( I loved Stephen Hawking, but I don't want him reading me a bedtime story.) You can adjust pitch, rate of speech etc. Thank you so much. This extension is excellent to far... I've gone through 3 extensions already where they will work spectacular at the beginning, for approx 6 months, and then all the sudden they will start to only read some of the text. Hopefully this one doesn't start to do that. I really like the voices and the layout and functioning of it. Great job!

Works well. The little overlay window is great. Is there a way to somehow get rid of the weird pauses it does before jumping to the next text block? Sometime, it's hard to understand the text when the flow of the speech gets interrupted like that.

This is a great extension! Though the voice of the reader can get a little annoying, and pauses whenever there is a period (for example it will say U. pause- S. pause, instead of just saying U.S. But other then that I totally recommend it. Very helpful for late night reading when it is hard to focus! Thank you Pericles!

Stop feature does not work

Best extension of this kind on the store! Really helps me when I want to read the news, and my eyes are tired from welding all day. I only found one problem so far: it reads the dates of the some articles.

This is actually useful - I use it quite often to read my studies!

This thing literally scans the page for main content and snipes exactly what you want to read and then keeps reading down the whole page... in short: insane. Makes college a breeze

I absolutely love this screen reader its much more user friendly than the default narrator for windows 10. My only issue is that the reader pauses for the same amount of time at a comma as it does for a full stop, which really hinders the flow of the dictation. My only suggestion would be to shorten the time paused at a comma so its clearer when a sentence has ended and when it just has a comma. Thank you :)

Simple and effective

This is the best Text to Speech Extension on the Chrome Web Store. Yes! It is, You might wonder how I can be so confident! I will tell you how - I used almost all the TTS plugins on Chrome Store and nothing comes closer to what Pericles can do. Pericles, can select a paragraph, without having to select it with your mouse. Pericles, can auto scroll through the contents of the webpage. This is definitely the best plugin out there, but may be the author can allow the user to change the color of the highlighted paragraph or highlight the current word being read. This might enhance the plugin further!

Great & easy to use! Love it! Doesn't work on the scientific papers that are opened in pdf in browser, but I think this is an issue than can be fixed easily. Keep up the good work!

I love your extension. It is the best screen reader. I would like to suggest some improvements. I can't see the text highlight for some reason, I would like to be able to change the color. Also, I would like, a word tracker to be added, it would make it, much easier to listen and follow the screen reader.
