About StoneSoup
---------------

Stone Soup has been created and is being deployed as part of a research study being conducted by the Interaction Ecologies Group at the University of Michigan. The goal of the research study is to understand how public display systems can best be used to support community cohesion.

Stone Soup is a community display system that allows you to share Internet feeds that you feel will be interesting to other members of your community. You can choose and configure the feeds they would like to share using the Stone Soup mobile site or app. You can then “check in” when near a Stone Soup display to share your pre-configured feeds with other community members. In addition, you can view other community members’ feeds, check in history, and editing operations using the Stone Soup mobile site/app.

At present, Stone Soup is only available to University of Michigan students and is being deployed only in the UMSI student lounge. To participate, you will need a valid UM uniqname, which will serve as your username for the Stone Soup system. The email address associated with your uniqname will be used to communicate with users throughout the Stone Soup deployment, though you can edit your profile to have Stone Soup use an alternative valid email address. For added convenience, you may be able to register the Bluetooth MAC address of your mobile to enable automatic check in.

When you sign up for Stone Soup, you are asked to confirm that you are willing to participate in the study. Participation means that your profile data (including your UM uniqname, first and last name, and email address) and usage data (including checkins, configuration changes, creations, and copies, and likes) will be collected and stored by the Stone Soup system. This data will be analyzed and reviewed by the Stone Soup team in order to understand how the system is being used and how it can be improved. Data and examples from the study may be used in reports, presentations, and publications, however all identifying information will be removed.
