Shut Up is one of my favorite extensions of all time. I've used it in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari for years. It makes a site like YouTube much more enjoyable, allowing me to watch videos without even noticing the tiresome and endless stream of jabber in the comments section. I keep it pinned to quickly enable it on sites like Reddit, where comments are often desirable. I've never experienced any issues using this extension, and it doesn't seem to affect browser resources in any way that I've noticed. Great!

Possibly, if not absolutely, the #1 most important and useful extension you will ever install. This is an absolute god-send and deserves to be not only one of, but THE, top rated and suggested extension on every "Top" list ever created. Hell...the world would be a better place if this came pre-installed and activated. Protect your sanity! Install this extension without delay!

Great extension, works without any problems so far after downloading. IMO it's 100% necessary if browsing sites like Youtube, Instagram and Reddit if you don't want to pull your hair out over comments that are either very toxic and divisive, or overused jokes you heard 3 years ago

Fantastic extension. I use it every day and have loved not seeing comments that would just bother me all day. I have noticed what could be possibly a bug. I just noticed today that the extension will not activate on Google hosted websites like Youtube. Is this something that Chrome is doing? Is it the pound of flesh for hosting this on the Chrome Web Store? Or is this news to the dev team? Edit 01/27/2022: I'm leaving this mostly unedited but have updated the stars to 5. I've learned the chrome web store is protected from any extensions modifying it. That's why this wasn't working on this website. My guess at conspiracy on Google's part was incorrect haha. Fantastic extension! Thanks!

Installed and verified on a few sites that I frequent, this is probably now my second favourite plugin after uBlock Origin. Comment sections are insanely toxic, I'm happy that I can avoid the rage-inducing garbage.

Works good on some sites, but Twitter still seems to load comments. I'm just a doom scroller and need to be stopped, and maybe this will help. Not reading the comments is self care, Comments not loading at all is even better.

Best addon ever created

I love you sir. I simply love you. I no longer have to see or read what people say on the internet. It's the grossest aspect of humanity, one that comes out when humans have anonymity and no recompense for their words or actions. It's worse than Mos Eisley. The things people say when they are in their home and behind a keyboard, the internet just really shows the true unveiled human condition and it's honestly just psychologically, bad. So thank you sir for making this.

Doesn't work on Facebook anymore. It's essential there! :( Edit 09/03 - still not working. Is it possible that it's because i haven't set English as language? Edit 24/03 - works perfectly

Five stars, perfect extension to silence the trolls. Just a suggestion to developer: if a password protect could be added, so that the comments cannot be enabled without entering password, it would be even better.

comments are a waste of time and where intelligence goes to die 5 times over, I dont need to see 100s of peoples opinions on stuff

Worked on a couple sites for less than 24 hours.Had high hopes at first. Tried all sorts of way of using it. Inconsistent and a waste of my time. Probably for you too.

Runs great on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube but not on Twitter. Please fix this. I really like not having to read negative comments from trolls, fanboys, fangirls, social justice warriors, keyboard warriors, etc, when I watch the video's or read news links. The negative comments can be infuriating. The vast majority who post & respond use fake profiles. Many will post once and never post again just to irritate you or get under your skin.

Does what it should, but not without troubles. Lastly, it began to hide not only comments, but the whole reposts in vk.com conversations. When reading news or recommendations on the same site, there are some glitches, too. And what's strange: the Firefox version of the extension still works perfectly! So 4 stars.

Absolutely fantastic extension, vital for my mental health. Now I can enjoy the internet without the torrent of toxicity that comes from having a comment box. One feature request - the extension doesn't seem to work on the chromium-based Kiwi browser for Android. I'd love to have this work on mobile as well!

It stopped working again

It doesn't work on all of the sites that I go to. Wondering if that can be fixed.

This extension works *better* than perfectly!! You just right-click to display the context menu and hit the TOGGLE COMMENTS button. That's it. That's all that's involved in turning comments ON or OFF. No extra pop-up's or anything. The sheer ease of this extension has earned an essential place in my personal "distraction-free-zone" kit for Youtube.

Read the name in Pewdiepie voice then you got a perfect extension. No more time and mental health wasting in a cesspool called comment section.

I've been using this for awhile now and it worked fine till recently I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and still is not working the way it use to I sure hope this can be fixed

The greatest invention since video game emulation. I can't think of surfing the internet and not going insane without this. Comments section really don't belong in certain places.

Very good generally, but I wish there was a whitelist option. The extension blocks comments on comment-based sites like Reddit as well as comments that are "secondary" to page content like news comments, but I only want to block the latter. In order to make sure it's not constantly blocking comments on Reddit I need to enable the "remember were I enabled comments" option, but that also makes it trivially easy to unblock comments once on another site, forget to reblock them, and have that site be comment-enabled from then on. Another extension, Hide Comments Everywhere, does allow individual whitelisting, though I otherwise prefer this extension's interface.

Literally useful on YT if you're tired at reading unoriginal meme format comments and Paheal if you get bothered by anons saying the FG word

This plugin blocks all comment sections by default with no option to instead allow by default. The plugin is well-maintained and I'd prefer to stick with it if the default could be changed but it can't and this is a huge obvious missing feature. For now, I've switched to the NoComment plugin.

Excellent. Works with the Guardian newspaper. Eases the pain and reduces the distraction level. Just one click to toggle on if required.

Works well to block time-wasting and annoying comments. The developer responded very quickly and helpfully to my request to fix this so it worked on a newspaper site that I subscribe to.

I couldn't remove the comments to the site i specifically installed this to get rid of I'm sure it's good for others, but not me

I love this! Now, I don't have to see the negative irrational comments from many people. I feel compelled to correct their ignorance and it just leads to an argument. It's one thing to simply disagree but it's another to be so factually incorrect and biased. Thank you for this!!!

Great extension. One thing I noticed though is that some websites do show 2-3 comments. Is that intentional?

1st out of 3 comment blocking extensions I installed that worked with YouTube, the other 2 were duds. Running on Mac OS 10.13.4 with Chrome Version 66.0.3359.181.

Years of seeing so much ignorance and abuse in comment sections on various websites would easily turn a kindhearted person into a hardcore misanthrope.Online anonymity has truly brought out the worst in humanity and I unfortunately had to learn that the hard way.My only gripe is not finding this extension years ago!I never knew how peaceful the internet could be once you eliminate trolls and other lowest common denominators.Thank you google chrome for recognizing the toxicity of comment sections and providing an escape for those who are fed up with other peoples nonsense.

Online anonymity brings out the worst in people. Even if I try to have a decent conversation with someone, they start cussing at you for no reason. I know it's better to just ignore them, but sometimes it just gnaws at you to keep the conversation going. I'd rather not see ANY comment from racists or sexists.

Works perfect in every web site. THe only problem is I wish there were an option for people like me who just disables it for 1 normal post and forgets it and gets upset later. I wish there was a "nope you can't see any comments unless you uninstall it" option 10/10

OMG, thank you! The internet was starting to become a painful place with all those HORRIBLE and toxic comment sections. We can enable it whenever we want to read them on sites like Reddit. One issue though, on a few sites (maybe 10-15% of what I visited) the comment section doesn't appear even after toggling. Other than that, amazing.

It's great to get those annoying comments "shut up", which help me more focused for browsing useful information.

This is almost the best extension there is. The only issue is that it seems to break on sites that use history.pushState (YouTube, Facebook, GitHub...)

In a digital age where "freedom of expression / right to opinion" has given way to bullying / racism and just pure meaningless hate.... it's good to be rid of these comments and have a cleaner experience. Can confirm it's working without an issue. Thank you for this. Highly appreciate it.

Very handy, but if the extension allowed me to see all of the sites I've allowed comments for, that would make it a 5-star extension for me.

Good product. I have given up on any meaningful conversation ever existing on (anti)social media pages like facebook. There is one problem which is Shut Up does not block comments from blogs. If they can enable this I would give it 5 stars.

This doesn't toggle anything. I cannot get comments to show up on many sites now, no matter what I try. I ONLY wanted to stop comments on YouTube, this is worthless to me if i can't turn the comments back ON!

With how politically divisive this past week has been, accidentally stumbling into Facebook comments was sucking my will to live. Fortunately, a friend pointed me to this extension! Even on Facebook, it removes comments. Even when I click on the number of comments or "load previous comments", it doesn't display them. If someone comments directly on my own post, it would go to my phone and I'd see it there. The people who I'm friends with and see my posts are much less likely to have ignorant nonsense to say, so that's fine! Now I might actually use Facebook to post upbeat things about the constructive things I do instead of slinking away to hide after 5 seconds of looking at it. Thanks "Shut Up"!

I just love how I can turn comments on and off at my leisure. I don't have to see nasty comments if I don't want to!

Works remarkably well on a lot of websites, offering an overall better web experience. We know we shouldn't read comment sections, but sometimes we just fall into that trap... Shut up is there to help in those moments. And if you really want to hurt yourself, toggling on the comment section is just one click away.

It's effing up on Facebook. Even if I turn off Shut Up for FB, the comments are being hidden. All I see are links to replies, but when I click on any of them, nothing happens. And I have to refresh the page until the comments show up.

Experience the internet without the neverending shitstorm of flaming, trolling and prejudiced commentary.

Just disable it if you're using GitHub and it's all fine and dandy.
