Used to use this all the time, but it has been broken since June '21 with no sign of any updates. Had to un-install.

It's unfortunate, but this extension no longer works. For those looking for an alternative, the NightEye extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/night-eye-dark-mode-on-an/alncdjedloppbablonallfbkeiknmkdi?hl=en) works well to keep my Google Chat in Dark Mode, both in the Web App version as well as on chat.google.com.

I'd give this extension a 4 or 5 star rating if it was updated, but as it stands now, it's unusable due to the room names being illegible until you click them, and the body of conversations not being dark. I'm sure it's because Google made a bunch of changes to the Chat UI a few months ago and the developer hasn't updated it since. Hopefully he or she comes back and makes the requisite changes or finds someone else who can...

Dark Mode is incomplete. It still leaves a large chuck of the page with a bright white background. It's tedious, nearing impossible, to set your own dark mode because the sections aren't clearly labeled. So you can't tell which section on the page belong to which label within the extension.

Used to work, as many have pointed out, but doesn't anymore. If/when they update this extension to fix it, I would give it 5 stars.

Doesn't even work half the time

It was only dark on the side and the color was too dark that I wasn't able to see what the names of the chats were.

It doesn't work correctly anymore. Many colors don't properly update - namely, the background of the chat itself. Hopefully it'll get fixed, because as far as I've found it's the only one.

Two weeks is adequate time to respond to an issue and implement a fix. Update, Release source, or remove.

Close! I'm glad this extension exists, and I look forward to using it once it's been updated to work with the current version.

Doesn't work anymore. When/if it does work again there needs to be more presets. Takes at least 30 mins to get a cohesive theme going manually. Dark mode was nice though. Not sure why google doesn't have built in theme options but since they don't I hope this extension gets working again. Much respect to the devs here for making the extension in the first place but I can't leave a good review right now.

Piling on with the others - I like the idea for the plugin, and it was great until Google Chat made some updates a month ago or so, and now all the styling looks quite bad. Hopefully the developer will see this and make the requisite updates, and I'll revise my review.

Need to pop in another low review, not because this is an inherently bad extension, but because it looks like Google changed things and the extension hasn't updated to account for them. Confirming that as of 29 Jun 2021, it looks like the underlying CSS has changed again, and the extension is horribly broken. Agree w/ others that Dark Mode doesn't work. But if you go in and custom change the colors on the elements, you'll really see the problem. Effectively, you change "chat area background color", but what really changes is "sidebar area"; that isn't 100% correct, but that is the overall issue. So I suspect Google changed its classes and ID's in the background and the extension just needs to get updated. A real bummer, because everything was working just fine up to about 1-2 weeks ago, at least for me.

Come on. This has got to be the simplest thing in the world. "Dark Mode", means dark fonts and backgrounds EVERYWHERE. When I have a conversation or a room open and the background is blazingly white, that is the exact opposite dark mode. Either fix this or do us all a favor and remove yourself from the web store. Nobody needs this frustration right now.

Downloaded this last week and it worked like a charm. However, today my Google Chat is back to white background. I removed the addon then downloaded it again. Turned it to default, then back to Dark mode, still nothing. Help! My eyes!!

nearly there, the setup of custom themes is to complex for the lay person, its difficult to figure out what all the different items means without trial and error. so simplify the options and have what you currently have as advanced setup. also room and room names text in the list of rooms are same colour as background. think a recent update in chats broke the setup

The extension automatically goes to dark mode which is nice because then I don't have to use the web broswer extension I use and don't necessarily want on all sites all the time JUST to have it dark on my chats. It unfortunately does not provide other chat themes at the moment though, hoping that gets fixed. It also hides the text when you go to settings within the chat (I have to to do a CTRL+A situation over the entire page to get the text to show up). Will bump up rating when more themes become available again.

No longer working. No slack mode and all modes are broke.

It was working great until today when I can't see the names of the groups at all.

Can we get an Out Of the Box Material Theme like MS Code ? Setting the custom theme rgba somehow doesn't work with Chat, Rooms. The Names of the Rooms are in Black, so when you set a dark theme, there is nothing to set the color of the names and almost all the Pop Ups are washed out in white.

Where is the Slack theme ?

For some reason the settings are not available anymore, that is, the google chat theme icon for the extension is not visible anymore and the dark theme colours are hiding texts, so there is no way to change the theme settings anymore?

The theme was updated today. :-) Perfect for my tired eyes.

Worked well until Google updated Chat to use different URLs. Don't bother installing it unless you see that there's been an update after May 2021.

This worked well on one account but not well on the other. The problem is with the list of sites that the extension can read and change the data on. On the working account, the URL is "chat.google.com" while on the other, as soon as I enter the URL, it changes to "mail.google.com/chat" If you could change the list of sites that the extension needs access to to include the second variation on the URL, I would change my rating to 5 stars, as well as have a more thorough enjoyment of the extension. *EDIT: There is a new Google Chat update that has a hover color over your active chat. If you could add a setting to change the color of that, as well as issue mentioned originally, I would be very pleased with this extension. *EDIT: Extension no longer works, as Google has fully transitioned to the new "mail.google.com/chat" URL. Until this is fixed, the extension will not function and my rating will remain at one star.

Google chat is now https://mail.google.com/chat. The extension should be updated.

Customized two of the custom themes and now custom theme 2 is gone. There are two custom theme 3's in the list now. That's weird. Also the active chat name background doesn't work anymore.

There seems to be an issue with the background colour of the active room not applying the theme in the current release/release of chat. Other than that it's excellent.

I've never written a review for any extensions, but I just wanted to jump in here and say I love this one. It works really well for me, and the built-in presets for Dark and Slack themes are beautiful. Highly recommended.

As Jack said before, this doesn't work on mail.google.com/chat, which is the only URL I can get the page to load up with. It would be nice if there were an update to account for that!

Does not work. Google changed the website for chat. Either update in the extension or allow user entered sites.

Fantastic way to get rid of the glaring white background, but it no longer works with the new URL google moved it over to.

Looks like Google made an update that broke this, add mail.google.com to the darkmode list.

It works great! Gives me the dark theme by default which is what I really wanted but it's cool that you can completely customize the colors if you want to.

Excellent! I really enjoy the effort put into this! It's the best it can be! Can't expect anything better! I got a nice black background with red words now! It's epic, love it!

It wouldn't let me change my theme. When I clicked the extension, I changed it to dark theme, but it didn't change the color of the tab.
