Absolute FAIL! Does nothing at all!
I'm genuinely shocked that Google developed this. That being said, I LOVE IT! Very useful. Thanks!
Great extension, thanks! Suggestions for the extension's options page: 1. Show a demo of how the currently selected options will render as plain text and rich text. 2. For the "Copy as rich text plus the raw URL.": When the highlighted text includes links they show up as such when pasted as rich text but the URLs behind the links are missing (tested in Word). Would be nice to have them.
Really great extension. It has come in handy for my work many times and look forward to seeing more improvements made.
I have used this ext in the past and loved it! Just added to chrome recently and immediately I notice that it no longer highlights the specific text that is linked when you click? Kinda miss that. Aside from that particular issue, I still find it very useful for creating links in OneNote and other word processors. 5 out of 5 for 2020, 4 out of 5 until the highlight issue is resolved.
This works and then it doesn't. No rhyme or reason for it to work on a site once then within a few days NOT work on the same site. Make no difference on account type (EDU or Public), how much text is selected, settings in Chrome, ... Really wish it would work more than 20% of the time.
Does not work. Every link created with tihs extension simply pulls up the website as normal, and does not link to the specific part of the page. Unfortuante.
Chrome has internal feature for this but it is disabled on a lot of websites. So, I end up keeping this enabled for cases where Chrome seems to believe the link won't work but it does using this app.
Literally does not work, and since I'm not techy, I can't be bothered to find out why. Pop-up blockers, website permissions, who knows. Nice try
Amazing extension, I used it a lot but, since Chrome stable version 90.0.4430.72 (2021-04-14 ? https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2021/04/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_14.html) is not needed anymore because it's already included in the browser ("Copy link to highlight" ? https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/10256233), reason why I'm uninstalling it.
i am using this since last three days all links are working fine in computer but facing problem with mobile phone. scenario 1. : i send the link to my WhatsApp and link is working on mobile. Scenario 2 : i pasted link on browser url of mobile its working. Scenario 3 : i put the same link in google form quiz, feedback for wrong answer its work in computer but does not work when i open from mobile. Scenario 4 : i copied the same link from Google form wrong answer feedback and past it on browser its work on Mobile.
Does not work. Uninstalling. Too bad. This would have made my life easier. Using a MAC by the way...
Doesn't work and was frustrating
It works on my PC (Windows), but not on my phone (Android). The same created long address (on Chrome) goes to the fragment on Windows, but goes to top of the page on Android (In both I use Chrome). I liked this extension but not being able to use it with my phone (whatsapp etc) is disappointing.
It last highlighted until you click or scroll down or up the page. Therefore it is useless, most people won't be able to see what you highlighted. It also does not work on a new visit.
The concept is great but it has some severe limitations. It does not work on sites with popups (which is fine because popups are bad UX anyway), but it also does not work with UTM codes or at all in the mobile Safari browser. The default native browser on something like 50% of the world's devices. For this to be truly useful, it at least needs to be compatible with UTMs and the mobile Safari browser. Please make it work, devs! It's really useful.
Works on Microsoft Edge, but unfortunately not on Brave browser, which is also Chromium-based. :(
You were great! But now this functionality is implemented in Chrome directly. But thanks for the time you spent, it was very useful extension!
not working
I'm confused. Isn't this the EXACT same thing that is already built-in to Chrome - "Copy link to highlight"?? ?

I am quite confused as to why there are 100k+ users but only around 100 reviews. Let's start off with the basics on this one. • Useful for when you need to bring someone to a specific text in an article or other form of online writing. • Can be used for finding youtube comments (at least from what I've seen) • Very fun to mess with. I enjoy bringing my friends to crazy random things on the internet with this. • Nice to use for helping students/peers when you're reviewing an essay and you need to bring them to the text. (Sometimes screenshots don't cut it). Hope this helps for anyone considering it.
Been using this for some months over several updates to Chrome (presently on Version 93.0.4577.63 (Official Build) (64-bit) It’s great WHEN IT WORKS - 5 star in fact, however I've only given it 2 stars because, I am continually find it vanished from the Context menu. When that happens, the ONLY fix is to remove the extension from Chrome and reinstall it. Having reinstalled, it works perfectly for some indeterminate time…a day, a week a month….then fails again. Very annoying because as I say, WHEN IT WORKS it’s a great extension. I've just emailed the Dev to ask about it.
Not working for me.
I've never come across such a useless piece of rubbish. The "developer" should seriously consider a change of career. Might I suggest pizza delivery?
This is excellent! Thank you!
It was working earlier, but now it isn't...
"Could not create a link. Select more words." Even though I had an entire paragraph selected. Completely useless.
This has been invaluable for someone who is frequently needing to cite/share specific lines of text on otherwise gigantic pages (i.e. transcripts). However, I do wish the feedback was a little more descriptive or helpful when a link can't be created -- help me figure out how to make my selection!
wow!!! i cant stop using these it amazing making fast money online with no predicaments
I seem to remember this linking a (non text fragment) anchor for browsers that don't support text fragments, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, what happened with that?
Very useful but doesn't always work where you want it (inside PDF opened in browser for example) and insists on unique text (I'd be happy with first match).
Doesn't work on a lot of sites. Possibly an issue with the underlying Chrome functionality, but that's from Google too, so... (Don't tell me the problem is sites loading content asynchronously – that's what modern websites do! If you're going to create a feature like this, you have to account for that.)
Awesome!!
I had dreams about such a useful and sensical application, and am glad those dreams are now real. Now I can read long .txt webpages on Gutengberg and always be able to get back to where I was reading.
Really great time saver!!! Being able to shift the viewport of the browser and highlight text can shorten and strengthen your message. No more TLDR; ? Would have given 5 stars if the highlight wasn't lost when you reload the same URL. Maybe this is not the extension's fault and is a Chrome issue?
Does it only work if the URL is opened with chrome? Or does it work with firefox, safari, edge, etc... too?
not working
This extension is in my top 5! I consistently share resources with colleagues which can be multiple pages down on a website. This tool allows me to get them directly to the information. It's a great tool for teachers and students too.
Hi Steiner, The extension is NxtGen no doubt, it works on recent Chrome browser. I checked the info on web.dev but, how do I use this feature on WordPress or any other CMS? I mean, if i click a search result on Google SERP, i am able to see this feature with websites, that have implemented it in real-time for Google indexing. How does this work with Google SERP? After installing this extension, i am able to generate URLs for a given web page which can be shared across but, how to make it available for search results? I have been looking for this info for long now, could you please help Thanks,
Brilliant idea, but the link only seems to work in Chrome and even in Chrome, it doesn't entirely work. When I use the link in Chrome, it takes me to the right page and section, but then it immediately scrolls back to the top of the page.
I wish it has a mode where it allows multiple paragraphs to be highlighted with a single link.
I'm trying to link a student course catalog but it's tell me to select a "longer sequence of words." I've selected a lot of text but it won't detect it.
This is brilliant. Love it
Why does this extension include a ad tracker? It inserts a string like "ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-115" into the generated URL.
Doesn't work for me on a Mac. I give it two stars instead of one because it's a good idea.
This extension is REALLY helpful, but it has a major drawback for my personal workflow. The problem is that this extension (despite the fact that it is developed by Google) isn't compatible with Google Drive. I cannot highlight any content from any PDF files that are saved into Google Drive. Due to this, I am looking towards adopting alternatives such as Dropbox. I REALLY hope that compatibility with Google Drive is possible in a near future.
This used to work great for accessing KB articles in ServiceNow. However, since recent update to how KB articles are loaded in ServiceNow this extension no longer works :(
Only problem is that it unhighlights when you scroll
Great extension! works as expected
Amazing. It's great to know something considered 'simple' yet so effective works in such a smooth way. Great extension!
Huge Time Saver. Love it...
Copy actual text ^p link would have been a great feature/option. I have GmailThis! bookmarklet that works better than this written in JS that opens a small gmail window paste in the website title in subject line, paste text/stringI highlighted in the webpage into the body and adds the URL of the page just below it/^p^p. I love this bookmarklet so much that I use it to make notes by closing the window NOT deleting it and it's automatically saved in Drafts for later usage. Or I'll copy the "text" and URL from the body and use IT for reference. Please add Actual text copy at least as an option. Thanks!
Very useful tool.
OMG! This is a timesaver! I don't have to continue explaining "where" or "what paragraph" for information I am sharing! Thank You! ????
I wish it worked for everybody just like it does on my computer. I mean, do my recipients have to have the extension installed as well to make the links work for them? I tried sharing different links with about 10 people this morning and it didn't work for any of them. What's the trick? I know it works on my computer, on Chrome and Edge. It also works on my cellphone with Chrome, but it won't work with anyone else??
The highlight is unstable, clicking on the extension icon does nothing. Only after watch a video instruction I found a way to use it. The functionality is needed, but the instability of the highlight makes it unusable.
Great tool!
Gostei da extensão, cria exatamente o destaque onde precisamos da atenção no momento. Mais um recurso para eu usar no Chrome OS ?.
This is brilliant! The extension itself, and linking to specific text. How did we live earlier without this capability?
Was trying to write a bookmarklet to do this myself. Glad Google already did it for me. Thanks Google!
Works just like it should. Opens right to the text linked with it highlighted!
Does exactly what it says on the tin!
Nice. I really like it. It is small, does exactly what it needs to do and does it well.
Lacking many essential features
Handy tool. Noticed that it doesn't work with existing tabs after install (even after reload), but reopening in a new tab or window would then create the links.
Great way to share a link that takes the viewer straight to the content on the page you want to highlight to them. Beats trying to track down anchor links in a page since hardly anyone uses those anymore.
does what it says
Can you tell us when it works and when it doesn't? For example, I tried it on the usage instructions and it didn't work.
Outstanding!
Really useful extension and it would be really great to have a feature to change display text for hyperlink while copying.
Little extension that made a big difference. Thanks!
May I know is it possible to have a user defined shortcut key?
Great extension. But the text appears highlighted only on first visit. If you reload the page the highlight effect is lost.
The extension works fine, but the function itself is only half-baked. It highlights only the first instance of the selected text. Chrome search highlights all instances, which is the behavior I expected here. This is a little underwhelming. Regexes would be nice too, but I'd be happy with it just implementing basic search function.
great idea for an extension.
Amazing how URLs with text fragment queries have started appearing in Google searches as well.
This extension is beyond great. Super useful for providing help for sites without anchors AND highlights the text!
Absolutely fantastic!
Works like champ on most sites i tried. Hopefully this will be expanded to other browsers as well, VEry usefull tool for people who share articles or for sharing specific paragraphs of an article. The viewer doesnt need to hunt down the paragraph. They be guided strait to the point of interest
Created a link, but didn't actually work when I clicked on the the link. Went to the wrong part of the page.
This is great functionality, but is there any way to assign a key shortcut in the extension preferences? That would make it really useful for precise bookmarking.
