I read a lot of books on the kindle, many of which I reference in my writings. With this extension, I can save my highlight, their locations in the book, and specify what format (APA, Chicago, etc.) that I want the reference displayed in. Very useful. I export atuomatically to my Evernote account in APA format and to Google Drive in Chicago style,
Magically useful!
Works great! No problems. Easy to use!
I've been using Evernote as my universal note-taking system forever, so when I bought a new Kindle, my first thought was "How can I get these highlights in to Evernote?" Clippings does the job very well (not just for Evernote but also, apprently for Dirve, Dropbox and Onenote), and for this reason, I'm giving it 5 stars and subscribing (which you ned to do if you want anything but very short notes). That said, there are a few improvements I'd like to see: 1. Although the ability to export citations in a standard format (APA, MLA etc.) is brilliant, some information (e.g., date) is missing. I guess this could be Kindle's fault though. 2. Related to that, additional synchronisation with Zotero or other bibliographical software would be amazing. Failing that, a BibTeX export would be neat. 3. The option to add tags on import would be nice, but I'm not sure how it could be implemented given that different books will need different tags.
The idea is great until I discovered that if I want to handle more than 100 character of custom notes per highlight it will cost me $5 a month charged yearly ($60). This extension might be a better experience for you if you need anything else than the import/export functionality. But in my opinion a fixed price subscription of $60 a year for a few lines of code that uses published amazon and google drive APIs to import and export notes is a bit too much. Pay per use or pay per character of exported text could be a better model for some.
Handy with nice choice to import thanks The more I use the app the better it's great..and I'd like an import to Notion for my wishlist thanks
Dear developers , Please add support for amazon.cn, as a Chinese user ,I can’t link the extension to my amazon account ??
Sadly the import does not work The message appears: > You've already uploaded all the highlights in the books you selected to import. Please make some new highlights and try again. I don't know if this is because I did an import from "My Clippings.txt" before, but I add new highlights and it doesn't recognise through the extension.
Love how quick it runs and how accessible it makes my highlights. 04/12/21 - new version runs fast, smooth and is easier to navigate. Made a good app even better!
This is an amazing app. WELL WORTH the $5-7/mo. for the paid features.
negotiating the procedure to import notes to evernote is quite difficult. Once you have it down (and write it down for future use!) the program is brilliant. Just downloaded the new paid version. It is absolutely fantastic. Customer service is A+. This is my single most valuable app that I use as a reader/researcher. Automatically updates all new highlights and notes in my library of hundreds and places neatly in Evernote.
Used this a few years ago when I read a lot more Kindle books than I do now. Recently got some Kindle books and checked this extension again. Love the updates, everything works even more smoothly than before. Great work!
Lovely service! Would be great to be able to share the page with all the annotations from a book. Still amazing tho
Really disappointed as all the highlights of my kindle are not getting uploaded. Most of the highlights are left behind. Hope you will solve the issue.
Love it! A massive hassle saver.
So disappointed. I purchased the extension because I had read that the Clippings would include timestamps, and I needed a timestamp for a particular highlight I made many months ago. When I exported the file, it had the same timestamp for literally every highlight in the book: midnight yesterday (as though I somehow highlighted dozens of things at exactly the same moment). Not worth the time or money.
I've used Clippings.io for a few years, and it's a little tricky, but it has always worked perfectly. It's been about 5 months since my last import, and suddenly now (April 6, 2020), it doesn't seem to be working. I get an error message telling me to update my Chrome extension. I've done what it says to do, and I've got the latest version of Chrome as well, but it isn't working. I hope they will fix it soon. Then I can give it 5 stars again.
Clippings.IO is the book nerd, researcher's dream. Finally I can get all of my Kindle Notes off of Amazon and into the Evernote where I can use them in articles and research. Amazing and worth the small price. Superb. My first run, it took 3600 notes from Amazon and imported them perfectly into Evernote. I've never had C.IO fail me.
I read and highlight voraciously therefore this extension is absolutely essential to my work and studies. If you are someone who reviews your notes and highlights on a regular basis I couldn't imagine a better extension out there, I have literally hundreds of book notes and highlights that I refer to often and the extension works great every time.
does a thing, does it very well. one of my favorites.
Must have if you highlight lots of text in your kindle books and use later for research or speaking! Easy to use and you can pick the book you need information on as you go.
I have just started using the Chrome extension for clippings.io to import my Kindle highlights. For about two weeks, I have been working through a fairly dense non-fiction book from which I need to capture the arguments and facts that the author lines up for his point of view. I can easily highlight what is relevant in my kindle versio of the book. But clippings.io makes it much easier to organize the material in preparattion for writing my own article on the subject. So far, so good.
Useful and easy to use. Does as described!
Works perfectly, exported all the notes that I needed, even beyond the truncated ones. Fantastic app, thank you very much for your work to make this possible. Happy to support such a fantastic function for $2 a month. Well-worth it!
I've been using this service for about six years now and it's such a crucial part of my work and study flow. I kinda believe that the ability to look back at my notes and reflect on it makes me a smarter human. Clippings.io also syncs with Evernote, which means I can share my notes with others. I mean, just pay the $2/month to keep this great business up and running. Keep up the great work, you killer team! I've been banging on about clippings.io to anyone who would listen.
Great for researchers that read Kindle and consolidate all of their hilights.
The greatest and most practical app for any Kindle user.
Such a useful tool
great tool!
Really useful little program. You can take voice notes using the Kindle app on and iPad, and then move the notes wherever you want them.
Awesome! Clippings is the only platform I found that allowed me to export all of my Kindle highlights and put them all in one place (Evernote) and format it in a clean, organized, and uniform way. Definitely recommended!
Very good and useful for taking notes on kindle and exporting to evernote.
When Clippings.io works it's great. But this is rare. A paid subscriber for months now, I have had issues with: - extension not recognizing already logged into Kindle highlights - failed repeated attempts (according to pop up message) at imports, and then these suddenly appeared a month or two later as dozens of the same entries - emptying trash repeatedly fails - resetting trash to allow reimport of clippings does not seem to work at all - apparently a lack of a bulk edit method, or at least I can't find one Would certainly like to see this work, as it begins to address Kindle's shortcomings. But it's been an irritating experience, at best.
Very handy to move my notes into Evernote so I can keep my kindle notes with the rest of my research. I wish you could add additional tags to highlights before importing into Evernote. For now I add them in Evernote.
It's incredibly important for research
I REALLY needed this app. It's upsetting that Kindle is a walled garden with no way to get your data out but this solves the problem elegantly.
Wonderful program for making use of the notes that I take while reading in Kindle.
There's no way to export notes/highlights to Evernote as separate notes - there's one Evernote note per book, with all of the notes/highlights from that book contained within it. This isn't useful for organizing large amounts of notes.
For years I have lived in the dark, under a rock, hacking my way to export my highlights and notes until I saw the light. Your light. Your light shines bright now like a pixel. Thank you for putting the light back into my unicorn heart that is now gushing with chocolate and skittles birthing flowers and butterflies. There is hope for the flowers.
So easy to get my highlights into Evernote.
Worked at first. No longer. Says it's importing. Says it's finished. Nothing every shows up in Evernote anymore. Terrible.
Very useful tool. I read a lot for grad school and for research and I love being able to use Kindle books rather than hard copy but the main issue is finding my highlights. This Chrome extension makes it very easy and I also like the ability to export the APA citation with each highlight as well as export all highlights to Evernote. It's very quick to do this and allows me to quickly search, find, copy, and cite the information I need. This is a game changer for those that read for writing and research.
Love the new version that automatically goes to your Kindle account! I also like that it says from how many books clips are being taken from! Great itereation!!
Really useful add-on. However I've had to remove and re-install to force an update.
I love this extension. I love to read and find ebooks to be easier to carry multiple works I'm reading for pleasure or work. This extension solves my problem of highlights and notes that I typically write in a book's margin. Now, I can use this export my kindle notes to Evernote where I can access them for research. It even includes the citation (you select which one) to export with the note. It's very helpful for many ebooks that are used for later professional writing.
Just what I needed. I love that I can organise all my highlights into PDFs.
Love the new import a single book feature!
simply awesome
Does exactly what I need: imports Kindle clippings and efficiently exports them to Evernote.
Prompts walked me through each step of using it. It worked.
One of my most useful extensions. Being able to save my Kindle highlights to Evernote is a godsend.
Great app! Very helpful and easy to use. There are a few enhancements I wish it had, but at least one--Kindle color highlights coming over as tags--should be coming soon!
Changing rating to 4 (from two), after Jim quickly diagnosed and created an update to handle an inconsistent response from Amazon for one of my books.
Dependably copies my highlighted text to Evernote without problems. The recent update to take Amazon's highlights page into account implemented easily. Reserving a star for when it becomes truly awesome.
Fantastic tool for kindle users, researchers, writers, etc., and integration with Evernote is a real game changer.
One out of one doctors surveyed recommend Clippings.io. This is an amazing tool that works. I am so grateful. Thanks!!
It does what it promises, and I find the ability to get my notes from Kindle to Evernote is really handy. That said, to make the transfer, there are a lot of hoops to jump through. Either you have to plug a Kindle via USB into your computer and find a folder, etc, or you can use a browser. But in that case you have to be using Chrome, you have to have your Amazon highlights page open on one tab and the clippings.io site open on another, and there are further steps to remember -- or re-learn, if you don't transfer highlights that often -- if you want Evernote integration. It does work, though, and I am not aware of anything better.
Super slick and easy to use.
Highly useful. Just a bit clunky and not the best user interface.
Love it so far. I've been longing for an application like this for a long time before I finally discovered it.
I love it, although the holy grail would be to make it work automatically so I don't have to remember to sync.
Quick and efficient!
Excellent tool for saving my highlighted notes from my Kindle books. The ability to export to Evernote makes it even better.
I love this app! It makes curating content a cinch. It helps me read, remember, and recall what I need from each book.
Finally, I have a way to archive my highlights from my Kindle in a different format with the option of transporting my notes to my Evernote.
This is a great app and the Evernote feature is seamless. I can't believe I didn't know about this until now. This is what I've been waiting for. Watch out world, I have arrived.
Love this - but I agree needs the Evernote export feature to work so I can combine this with other highlighting tools
Does what it says it will, with no fuss.
Rating is for the Kindle import which works great!
Awesome app. Gets the job done.
Works well, just a bit slow.
great service, super low fee
Works brilliantly. Being able to export my highlights and notes into a pdf is a massive time saver.
Incredibly easy
I agree with Al Sellaro. I too, liked Clippings.io until I realized that the Evernote export feature was not working (as advertised). The options that were supported in the past are no longer present (at least on my account page). In addition, the option present to reset Evernote integration is not effective in getting (those) options like note creation (whether you want one note per book or one note per annotation) and tagging (choosing whether you want to tag book title and/or author, or even if you want to tag 'annotation' and/or 'clippings.io'.) I too have opened a support ticket and have yet to hear back from the team... Bottom line is that I don't feel that this app/extension is reliable.
I liked the idea. As I became a premium user, I figured out that the documentation is not in sync with the actual tool's screens. I also realized that the Evernote export feature is not working as expected. The export creates a single Evernote note per book, with many highlights in it. I want to have one Evernote note per highlight. According to the old documentation this was supported. I tried to open a support ticket, but it's been more than a week and I heard nothing back from the team. If you are thinking about a serious workflow using Clippings.io and the extension, think twice.
Simple and easy to use. Website is rather clunky and slow, but it does exactly what I was searching for: a while to import lots of notes into Evernote without having to type them out by hand.
I love this app. There is a learning curve - but after an afternoon of wrestling with it, I can speedily export all my clippings and sort books into categories for ones I just want for reference. Having previously manually done this to get useable excerpts, there is no comparison. I LOVE THIS.
This little thing has just been seamless for me. Once I get logged into everything, it is just the touch of a button.
I have the paid version and it works perfect. Actually I find it a miracle how well it works and what it does. A year ago, I had the unpaid version that was clunky at times. It sometimes appears that it has stopped working, but waiting a few seconds has always worked for me. I guess it is going through hundreds of annotation.
This app has made my life so simple.. Previously used to spend hours collating all my highlights from kindle and copying to evernote.. now this job is automated.. thanks a lot....
Generally works well. Problems have become rarer with each update. A time saver / life saver as I write a dissertation!
Figedy, but gets the job done well in the end. Adds just a little to amazon's own system, but I like having a backup outside their system.
I really love that this extension exists, because it's a pain to try and view my Kindle notes and highlights through Amazon.com and being able to import them into Evernote makes accessing them much easier. However, this extension is sort of a pain to use as well, and the format in which the highlights are reproduced in Evernote is messy and difficult to read. So basically this extension was a great idea that was just executed poorly. Still worth the trouble for being able to review my notes without jumping through hoops on Amazon's website, though.
Getting my clippings into Evernote is so useful. So happy this app exists!
Clunky and awkward to use plus it falls over regular even when signed into Kindle and clippings. The export to Evernote is also glitchy if the import failed to complete properly, which is often. Annoying and frustrating have to waste time repeating the sequence. Feels like 1990's tech all over again. Not seamless.
For any student of history, full, part-time or amateur, this makes an e-book worthwhile. Does what it says it will do seamlessly and wirelessly. Capture all your highlights with ease. The premium service is worth every dollar.
The extension is clunky. Why does it open another browser tab each time I log in? It feels as if the app only really works in chrome which for those of us who would prefer to live and work in another browser is a negative point. It is worth all of these negatives to gain working access to my Kindle notes!
Super helpful way to get highlights from kindle into evernote.
Still need improvement, but very useful.. love it
This is a great way to get your Kindle highlights into Evernote!
The interface is a little clunky but this is an extremely useful extension; I get so much value from my Kindle reading this way!
Love the concept, but the chrome extension workflow is a bit quirky. TIme for a refresh?
Trust me, if you value your highlights from the Kindle, this will save you so much time. I am now able to harvest them with much ease. Well, worth it the monthly financial cost.
very very helpful
extremely useful. thanks.
I have been looking for this for sooo long. Thank you!
Continue having problems syncing with amazon and clippingd.io, have to try connecting multiple times every time I try to upload new highlights. Other than a little frustrating at times I enjoy it very much.
It works. That's pretty cool. Could use an API that might allow clever stuff through IFTTT etc.
Very useful for research
So far, so good. I'm just beginning to get the hang of this sysstem.
Can't retrieve all my highlights. Keeps starting at the same place and just getting the same ones over and over again. Doesn't seem like it will ever get all my highlights.
