This is my second most used extension after uBlock Origin. It's indispensable for saving my eyes from strain, and great at combating websites that insist on eyebleed colors or blinding white everywhere. It has some failings: notably, it can often invert graphics even when set not to; some websites swap color schemes, meaning that you'll always have a couple pages not in your preferred color mode, and after modifying color schemes on a few websites, I find that opening the extension freezes Chrome for up to a full minute. Still, it's the best tool I've found for making websites comfortable to look at and read.
The best. Seriously, been using this for many years. To the dev: Reddit must have changed something recently, deluminate is not working there
WORKS! If site did not change try to refresh it and it should pick it up
Hands down the best extension of its kind! Been using it for many many years.
An extension I didn't know I needed. It enables dark mode on unsupported sites very nicely with plenty of customizable options, and you can have custom settings for different sites if a site already has dark mode enabled. 10/10
This extension is the best!! It works on 9/10 sites, maybe more. It is very easy to change settings, so sites that don't work still have options (like dim for sites that force white). The settings are saved, so you can just use the same settings on that site in the future.
I love Deluminate, but it absolutely kills the performance of Gmail. I'm talking 1-2 seconds between clicks. I've tried dim vs full invert with no help. My company uses Gmail so I don't get an option on this.
Amazing
Didn't work
It does what it promised. It darkens text on pages & works to improve image contrasting. However, it always starts in Dark mode. Even after settings are set to normal. Likely a bug. The author is making updates. Other extensions like this are not being updated.
Great extension with a lot of functionality and options! Takes a little bit to tweak for every site, but once you have it figured out, it's awesome!!
I have been looking for something like this as an extension to using flux. I am trying to protect my eyes from bright white light when using the computer at night. Thank you for creating this
It works well, as per does the job of dimming, inverting etc. However, most of the pages I visit flickers alot, some even to point where we cant read the text on page. Very annoying.
Yours is the best extension I've found for making sites dark. However, it makes my browser slower. Specifically in gmail, whenever I click "reply" there's a noticeable delay before I can start typing my response. Unfortunately a dealbreaker and I decided to switch to a different extension which doesn't invert images as well. Is it possible to fix this?
Lags a lot due to using software rendering, but other than that, it's great.
Perfect app
Probably the best dark mode app around. I tried several, most of them don't work properly on all sides. Deluminate does the best job inverting images smartly and also converting the background colors correctly, where other apps often fail.
Amazing extension! option to invert or dim. mainly authentic
Can't imagine browsing without this extension. Heartfelt gratitude to the developers from my eyes.
If you abhor white backgrounds on web pages like I do try deluminate extension for chrome browser. It will reduce eye strain. It takes a little time tuning its response to various web sites you visit however once it learn how to render the pages with black background and white text it works fairly smoothly. I hope the developer continues to update and extend the app for the sake of stressed eyes. Thanks abstiles for your efforts!
The extension idea is good, but it is bad for eyes. Fonts are displayed as blurred. I do not recommend it for eyes safety reasons.
superb
I really like the options it comes with, though it glitches with some sites. I've been using it for over a year now I think and it's one of my most useful extensions. I even use it on my opera browser on my laptop using an extension that would let me install chrome extensions!
Simply Aweesomee !!! Check the settings and you will like it
It can only do low contrast by making the background brighter/grey, so if you want a black background you're stuck with bright white text. It also doesn't play well with Night Shift, as opposed to TLV Night Mode, which does. My review for TLV Night Mode: Stellar. Though to get a black, rather than grey, background, you have to make your own theme, but that's thankfully very easy. It's much better than the also rans, Deluminate, which can only do low contrast by making the background brighter/grey, and Midnight Lizard, which is painfully complicated.
excelente, funciona com todas as abas e em qualquer site praticamente, adorei <3
Does what it says on the tin, and you can undo it on a per-page basis. Love it!
Best dark mode app than dark reader. Since it inject the body to dark first which make google search page doesn't white flash anymore! However, some images are inverted and the page becomes really slow!
Very good except on youtube
Best extension. Copy paste doesn't work in github with deluminate enabled.
If you have vision problem and have to have dark mode, and have to use google doc/sheet etc. This is probably the only one that will make you happy because all, including this one, will screw up the editor. However, this one holds the distinction of letting you control over what to do with the graphs. This one, and also many others, appears to do its trick by polling. If you zoom out your will get flicker. The polling appears to be cpu intensive. It noticeably slows down cpu intensive pages like youtube and makes it rather sluggish. But that is at least usable. It really brings gmail to its knees. I have to disable this to us gmail. Oh well! That's why I take away one start
You have to reload the page to make it work, which really isn't that big an issue, nor an uncommon one. What I don't like about this one though is it does something to the font when enabled. The font becomes... blocky. It looses its crispness, the edges look jagged. Which makes it hard to read, so you wind up trading the eye strain caused by a super bright screen for eye strain (admittedly less) of reading jagged/blocky characters. I'd recommend using the "High Contrast" extension instead. It does the same thing but without the strange artifacting (if that's the right word). https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/high-contrast/djcfdncoelnlbldjfhinnjlhdjlikmph
First up, the automatic inversion leaves text too crisp contrast, probably something is wrong with how true type interacts with this inversion Second, and more important, for some reason this extension absolutely kills all performance on pages that have recaptcha. The moment I press the recaptcha, the page is unresponsive for 15-25 seconds. I tried enabling and disabling all my extensions and narrowed it down to this one.
I love the ability to choose various levels of dimming settings. Works really well and have been using it for more than a year now.
Extension helps eyes and is versatile.
Love the default color scheme and the ability to customize it, but scrolling on certain sites is choppy. On kia-forums.com, for example. So I still have to stick with Hacker Vision for now.
Love this extension, never thought that this kind of functionality was possible before I googled it. Thanks fro creating this extensions. Typically, Iwork for long periods on the computer and I have issues with eye strains. Thanks to deluminate I can enjoy strain free browsing. Can't wait to recommend it yo my friends and workmates.
does not work
Best inversion extension to date. This works really well and I can easily read off sites. It also looks cool on sites like wikipedia and the smart inversion isn't perfect but does the job well on some sites. Thank you for making this extension. The theme extension like "Stylish" contains malware inside.
Exactly what I wanted. Not to invert colors, just... make them dimmer.
It was working very well till last month or so .. but now it does not work at all .. moreover the shortcut for the quick toggle also stopped working.
It does not work.
I don't expect much since I knew these things are not perfect for everything. For me, I find it invaluable after living with a UHD TV as a monitor for months. It is not bright for photos or movies but it is too bright for reading text on most sites with a light background almost all do. Good job on this extension!
The dropdown menu from the icon flickers back and forth and never loads.
Thank you for the recent update that fixed the bug Chrome introduced! I really depend on this extension to help keep my sanity!
this is amazing!!!
Its finally working. Thank you
Quite good. Edit: Try dark reader while this extension is down! Edit: I think something in the last update of chrome(Version 65.0.3325.146 (Official Build) (64-bit)) broke deluminate. Invert luminance options do not change the color of the site anymore ):
Finally back up and running again :) This stopped working last week and I tried installing about 10 alternative extensions to replace this. Guess what they we're terrible Random white sections, lack of options to convert text/photos etc. Oh deluminate how you've spoiled me smh Thanks to the developers. Glad I waited for the update
This extension works very well—better than others I've tried. Light backgrounds become dark, dark text becomes light, color hues are preserved, and everything generally stays readable. Adjusting settings on a domain-by-domain basis is good, since you can prevent the extension from inverting sites that already use a dark palette. I've found it a little bothersome that text on inverted pages no longer uses ClearType (and may not work with other subpixel rendering either). This makes text look noticeably worse, especially when it's fairly small or in a serif font. If it's possible to get the system to recognize inverted text and re-apply subpixel rendering, that would be a good improvement. In my experience I've found the "smart invert images" setting to be too unreliable for general use, so I've set my default to "keep images normal". "Smart invert" seems to work by inverting any image that doesn't look like a photograph. This is good for, say, images of simple text or very basic graphics, but it also ends up inverting digital art and the like, which is undesirable. It would be neat to have the option to auto-enable/disable Deluminate based on time of day, or better yet based on sunrise/sunset à la f.lux. But with the keyboard shortcut provided, manually switching isn't much of a hassle.
UPDATE: Working again! Thanks! ** Invert Luminance is not working anymore with Chrome Version 65.0.3325.162. Only the Dim and Reduce Contrast function is working.
Does not work on google page anymore, it does not go black it's only white regardless of setting.
Thank you SO MUCH for fixing it!!! Do you have a donation page???
By far the best, but it stopped working in the latest chrome update. Doesn't work properly now and most of the pages remain unchanged. Waiting for an update please!
Does not work anymore with the recent chrome update.
Doesn't work in fullscreen :-( (flash-content that is)...
App stopped working properly. Now instead of blacked screen, I have regular with just several colors inverted (so screen is white as usual)
good
Loved this extension until chrome 65 made it completely useless.
I have LOVED this extension for a VERY long time and it worked perfectly until I took a windows/chrome update today. Now when using the functions to create a black background the white backgrounds stay and all the other colors turn to a photo-negative version of color. The extension is now useless for me. It can still dim and lower contrast, but that is all.
I had been using this particular extension for well over a year now.. I have severe light sensitivity and up until now, it was absolutely amazing.. Chrome just updated the other day but it was still working.. However, then my laptop updated and this hasn't worked since, which is highly disappointing as this was the best I had ever found so far.. I would love for it to get fixed so I don't have to utilize subpar inverters..
Doesn't work on google search results page
What's up with the scrollbars blinking after a couple of minutes on a page?! Please bring out an update to fix that, it's really annoying to have scroll bars blinking in your face for hours on end =/ **UPDATE: DOESN'T CHANGE/DARKEN THE BACKGROUND FOR MY ANYMORE FOR WHATEVER REASON*** Other than that, I wish this would be an addon for Mozilla, too. But it's my favourite among the browser-darkening extenstions.
deluminate stops working after recent google chrome update Version 65.0.3325.146 (Official Build) (64-bit)
The best browser "delumination" extension I've found for Chrome... If only Chrome extensions were compatible with android. Sorry. Went a bit cross topic there.
Love the idea, and the last time I checked, this was the most functional extension of it's kind. Better options, works better-out-of-the-box than all the competition I've tested, and it's got great customization. Another thing: In the past I've stopped using this because it would slow down the browser way too much. I believe it's better now. Currently testing.
I like the dim option, I don't need the colors reversed as much as just a more dim white.
Almost perfect, except certain fonts tend to get a bit "washed out" or blurred. I found myself adding custom CSS to change fonts everywhere, then switched to Dark Reader. I'd recommend Dark Reader personally. This still does a great job though, just with less customization and some fonts are harder to read.
It was almost perfect... too bad it is slow... sluggish browsing etc...
Doesn't work on mac. Scratch that, does work on new pages. Doesn't change the current page after install. Activation does not seem to work on current page. Shortcut keys. No other obvious way to turn it on. Just loads of problems. happy to pay to have it work right.
Works Flawlessly !!! The best extension for Google Chrome !!! Highly Recomended !!!
Just what I needed! Much easier on the eyes in the dark! Obviously there's going to be some very minor issues like occasionally some images being inverted or looking weird, or a dark page getting turned light, but I can easily set it to "normal" for those. Very well done!
Works alright for a lot of sites but not so good on others. Some sites text change to weird colors that are blurry and lack sharpness or the backgrounds change to colors that are harsh on the eyes, etc.
The problem has been fixed, i loving it again
This killed hackervision for me, best app of its kind
Loved this so much until it started creating a flickering horizontal scroll bar on most webpages. I would install it again if it gets fixed. Don't know what happened to change it, but it seems to have been a problem for others for a while.
i really like the idea if this! one thing is that chromebooks don't have a f11 so if you could make it possible to change the key that would be great!
Awesome so far. Recently, the bottom of the screen started flickering for sites like facebook & any others, not sure if a fix is on the work. Nonetheless, pretty cool extension.
the flickering scrollbar (caused by this extension) on some websites makes this unusable
Midnight Lizard is better and more stable extension than Deluminate which gives far more color and other options and features
I really love this extension, it saves battery and is easy on the eyes. It also provides privacy when you're in a crowded area and don't want people snooping on what you're reading. However, something that bugs me is that, for some reason, when I have this extension on, the side scrollbar and bottom scrollbar appear and disappear sporadically, which is very annoying! This doesn't happen on every page, but it only happens with deluminate on. I may try a different extension, because it's very distracting :/
Loved this app when it was supported, but it looks like it isn't anymore. For another app like this look up Dark Reader by Alexander Shutov Or go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dark-reader/eimadpbcbfnmbkopoojfekhnkhdbieeh/related?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog Again, I loved this app when it was out. But the flickering thing at the bottom annoying.
worked for a while but now it is kinda broken
I can't read the menu, so I can't use the app (text is unreadable white text on a black background). Why in the ever-loving WORLD can't these stupid developers figure out that I want to turn Steam (and other unreadable dark background pages) into light background pages that I CAN read?! SERIOUSLY, I like NOT having migraines, geniuses! You have 5 million extensions to RUIN people's eyesight and give them migraines by changing perfectly readable dark text on light backgrounds into an eye-burning, migraine-inducing light text on a dark background, but it never occurs to ANYONE to make the opposite so websites are actually EASIER to read and don't hurt your eyes when dumb developers choose HORRID color chemes (hello, Steam). Why?! Why do you do this to us?!
I love this extension. I've been using it for a very long time. With the latest Version of chrome, whenever the extension is active, my horizontal scroll bar is flickering multiple times a second. Please fix.
It was great but the thing moving on the bottom was annoying whenever I turn deluminate on.
No longer supported by Developer
Absolutely phenominal. Amazing work! This has really made my life a lot nicer. I'm super impressed. Great job abstiles!
I've been using this extension for a long time. With the latest chrome version, however, flickering started happening in the bottom of the browser - adding and removing horizontal scroll bar (as many stated). I started scrolling while on facebook for some minutes and my graphics card drivers started restarting - a problem occurred blah blah - it even broke the whole page - I started seeing white space without text and where clips or content has to be there there was only blue squares (pretty nasty). Would be great if this problem gets fixed, cause it's pretty serious.
Was great, but now there's a flickering on a lot of pages. There's a scroll bar that keeps appearing for a fraction of a second at the bottom of the page.
Loved this extension until as of recently when it started causing the horizontal scrollbar to flicker :( If it gets updated i'll update the review.
After installing, i closed all the chrome windows and opened them again. I could make some pages black, others, not(this chrome web store is one that doesn´t accept the night mode). The page that worked out, started flashing down the bottom of the page, 1 or 2 times/second. Didn´t work for me (Core i7, 8gb ram)
superb
browser went crazy after installing this ext. unnecessary scrolls, glitch, slow page loading
it works. I can go on websites and not hurt my eyes.
Great extension. Recent issue though where many sites when inverted or dimmed have a scrollbar pop in and out constantly along the bottom of the screen. This started after updating Chrome to the latest version today. Tried a reinstall of the extension, but still there. Hopefully this gets resolved soon as it jarring to have a bright scrollbar popup on a black page in and out twice a second. Once resolved it deserves the 5 stars given again.
works good but lags. edit: it started flickering a scroll bar on the bottom of the screen today. hopefully a fix is coming soon. edit 2: found another addon that doesn't have this issue and seems to lag less. Dark Reader.
makes my life better. this should be built into chrome.
Great extension. Better than Hackervision, but man, that icon is ugly! I hope the developer gets a better looking icon for their extension. Other than that, it's great!
All times favorite app. Huge relief on my eyes and I no longer get massive headaches due to staring at white screens all day.
