If you don't want this to happen again, install GIF Blocker and experience GIF Free Internet. We may often need to block GIFs on a particular page only, not the whole internet. For such cases, you can turn off the extension and click 'Block GIFs on the current tab' whenever you may need to. In case you need to see some GIFs, turn off the extension by clicking the extension button. You can turn it on similarly. Disclaimer: It doesn't block all types of animated content, but GIFs only. Bonus Point: This extension will save a lot of data consumed by loading GIF.

"It can read and change all your data on all web sites." Seriously? I can't believe whoever created this (never mind people installing it) thought that was reasonable. Someone can't make one of these without all that?
This should be called "HIDE GIF'S"... there is no start/stop functionality, and IF turned on then you don't even know a GIF exists. Sometimes you want/need a GIF and just want to selectively turn it on. I might have been able to deal with it if it at least displayed SOMETHING in place of the GIF so that I know something is there that I might want. And further annoying that now after removing the extension, and then refreshing the pages where I know GIF's exist, but now the GIF's don't even display ?♀️ I assume a cache thing? I have a million things open right now and it's a huge PITA to stop what I'm doing to have to go restart. Ugh.
I frequently use Goodreads and I find it gifs very distracting. It hadn't even occurred to me to look for a gif blocker extension until someone mentioned it. I tried this one and it's like heaven! One click and the gifs are gone. I wish I'd discovered this little extension earlier. What's especially good is that you can deactivate gifs either globally or only in the current tab.
